Lawyer: FBI officials clueless about terrorism

I suspect that this is true in large part because of politically correct niceties that make it impossible for the Fibbies to speak openly and honestly about the true causes and goals of Islamic terrorism. By starting with the unsupportable but also never-to-be-questioned dogma that contemporary terrorism has nothing to do with Islam, they doom themselves to getting lost in a forest of false assumptions and misplaced priorities.

"In Letter to Senators, Lawyer Criticizes Top F.B.I. Officials," from the New Duranty Times, with thanks to Seymour Paine:

WASHINGTON, June 19 - A lawyer who interviewed a number of top current and former counterterrorism officials at the F.B.I. in connection with a lawsuit against the bureau has written to three senators saying that the officials lacked a detailed understanding of terrorism and were promoted to top jobs despite having little experience in the field.

In a 15-page letter, the lawyer, Stephen M. Kohn, wrote that the F.B.I.'s top counterterrorism officials said in sworn depositions that they did not know the relationship between Al Qaeda and Jamal Islamia, a South Asia offshoot of the terror network. Nor were they aware of the linkage between Osama bin Laden and Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman, a spiritual adviser to Mr. bin Laden with whom he had been closely associated since the 1980's.

These guys should be reading Jihad Watch. I would wager that the average regular reader of this site knows more about what the jihad terrorists are doing around the world and why than the Fibbies, at least as they're portrayed here. The last time I talked to one -- about the death threats I recently received -- he was courteous and interested, but utterly uninformed about jihad terrorism.

Mr. Kohn said that F.B.I. Director Robert S. Mueller III, in his deposition, seemed unsure of Mr. bin Laden's relationship to Sheik Rahman, who is better known as the blind sheik and was convicted in 1996 on terrorism charges. Asked if he was aware of their relationship, Mr. Mueller is quoted in Mr. Kohn's letter as saying he was not.

Mr. Kohn's June 17 letter was written to two Republicans, Senators Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, and one Democrat, Senator Patrick J. Leahy of Vermont, each of whom has long had an interest in F.B.I. matters. Mr. Kohn said in the letter that he was disclosing the information from the depositions at Mr. Grassley's request.

"Since 9/11 and up to today, the F.B.I. has been led by managers without counterterrorism experience or background especially in Middle Eastern terrorism, and their testimony under oath is that they are learning about counterterrorism on the job," Mr. Kohn wrote.

Mr. Kohn's complaints, although clearly advocacy statements by a lawyer pressing his client's legal claims, are likely to be taken more seriously because they are similar to the findings of recent reports by recent independent review panels, which have criticized the bureau's progress in correcting the flaws exposed by the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001.

I guess the agency need a new acronym.

I suggest the F.B.I. be changed to the D.U.H.

(Department of Unused Heads.)

...and their testimony under oath is that they are learning about counter-terrorism on the job...

Surely this is an invitation to begin UNI courses on modern jihadism as proxy warfare.

And wouldn't it put the cat amongst the pigeons in the ME departments of US Universities.

Maybe the "intelligence" agencies will wake up when they experience some "Muslim Love and Peace".

Then hopefully, all of the PC croc will go out the window.

These are the same people learning to be "sensitive" to muslims' beliefs, as taught by CAIR.

Scary as it is, it is hardly surprising that FBI has no clue about terror, much less fighting it. I submit FBI has no clue about ISLAM either (except to bend over backwards at the snap of Muslim fingers). Given the complex political fiber of 'Dar-Al-Islam' battling 'Dar-Al-Harb', by 'War is deciet', is anyone surprised that CAIR fooled/intimidated 'Sheikh Gorge-Bin-Gorge Al Bush' into declaring 'Izlum is peace' or into training FBI into 'sensitivity training' to handle potential murderers?

Only a few like Robert Spencer, Daniel Pipes, Barbara Stock, Michelle Malkin and Ali Sina are aware of the depth of Islamic deception.

Unfortunately, as they say, there is a sucker born every minute.....

This is off topic but may be of interest to British readers (its a week old - so you may know already) -

Now that the British election is over, the Gov't is seeking to introduce it's anti free speech "hate" laws where religion = race. Say "bye bye" to your freedom of speech all you English.

Interesting as to which "Peace Loving" group has pushed for these laws.

Mr. Spencer: For now, count your blessings. The FBI is aggressively recruiting Muslims. I bet you within a few years Muslim g-men will rise through the ranks and run what is left of our counter-terrorism effort to the ground. Falafel counter-terrorism…How about it with Humos and Teheni to boot.

Mr. Spencer: I wish you would say something directly about this administration’s embracing of political correctness to the determent of this country. In real terms, the jihad ideology was not touched. We only managed to cut a few tentacles of the jihad juggernaut, but Muslims seem to have benefited greatly from 911 as Bin Laden emphasized in his video with the crippled Sheikh.

Funny in Beverly Hills, with Alicia Silverstone clutching her books and chewing her gum. Not so funny when our crime-busting heroes of yore, who then metamorphosed into cell-busting "I Led Three Lives" Herbert Philbrick, turn out to be incapable of unddrstanding that 1) Islam is not just a religion but a complete way of life 2) Islam offers a Total Guide to the Universe 3) Islam is akin to an army, and if one becomes an apostate one is treated like a defector from that army, or rather as a traitor 4) Islam uncompromisingly divides the world between Believer and Unbeliever, and between the lands where Islam dominates and Muslimms rule (the dar al-Islam), and lands where, for the moment, non-Muslims still rule. And between the two there must be unremitting hostility, until the final triumph of Islam. Sounds fantastic, but not to hundres of millions of Muslims -- to them, it sounds right and just. 5) Islam contains doctrines which sanction lying about the faith, its contents, its meaning, so as to help preserve it, and to promote the wellbeing of Believers, who may be threatened by Unbelievers or others. It is thus alone among all the world's religions in religiously-sanctioning lying.

Oh, and there are a dozen other main points that need to be thoroughly assimilated. Anyone in the FBI up for studying -- not at the feet of CAIR representatives, but with others, above all with such scholars as Bat Ye'or, and such defectors as Ibn Warraq, Ali Sina, Ayaan Hirsi Ali (bring her over -- she'll be quite a draw at FBI headquarters, and at meetings for agents. But what are you going to do about the problem of your Muslim agents? Pretend that there isn't a problem, and they are your truest guides to Islam? Are you willing to sacrifice national security, the security of the Infidels who trust you to protect them, to that? Really?)

How credible is this lawyer? He represents Bassam Youssef an Egyptian-born American (Muslim?) who worked in the Riyadh, Saudi Arabia office of the FBI.Mr Youssef is suing because he was excluded by the FBI from counter terrorism issues in Saudia Arabia. The official reason the FBI gave for excluding Youssef was poor managerial skills. Why would Youssef sue to be involved in FBI counter terrorism? Could it be the FBI knew exactly what it was doing in excluding Youssef and that his lawyers claims are crap?

Instead of "sensitivity training" ,every FBI operative should have to visit this website daily...they would learn much more about islamic terrorism ,and also get a reality check.

I suggest the F.B.I. be changed to the D.U.H.

lols - that's perfect!

I find it hard to believe they are that ignorant

Maybe the "intelligence" agencies will wake up when they experience some "Muslim Love and Peace".

I keep saying - Only when it 'touches' enough of the leaders - will they take seriously what the Koran really does teach. Only then - will it become real to them.

AMEN!

I fear what we have is an FBI (Fumbling Bureaucracy of Incompetents) modelled after the type as depicted by Sandra Bullock (Miss Congeniality) and Drew Barrymore (E.T.) Clueless, airhead twits with no guns or cods.

Affirmative action.

There's a similar discussion going on over at Dean's World on the FBI and our domestic security:

"They did not know the relationship between Al Qaeda and Jamal Islamia, a South Asia offshoot of the terror network. Nor were they aware of the linkage between Osama bin Laden and Sheik Omar Abdel Rahman..."

How is it that the average Jihad Watch reader knows more than the FBI -- a bunch of ninny dimwits that know nothing?!

If we leave our security to them we're screwed! The blind leading the arrogant and unwilling..

G-d Help us!

They're starting to sound like the level of folly going on in 1929 when then Secretary of State Henry Stimson "learned with horror" that American cypher experts had broken the Japanese code, so he dismissed them, spouting the haughty phrase "a gentleman does not read other people's mail".

Effectively beheading the U.S.'s intelligence decryption services for the most crucial years leading up to WW II.

Now the F.B.I. appears intent on pithing itself with myths.

"Bibere venenum in auro."

(Drinking poison from a cup of gold.)

The rhyton of Islamic helpers.

The FBI aren't even interested in vounter-terrorism - they've been too busy setting-up and arresting AIPAC officials who they claim were getting classified information from Larry Franklin.

Strangely enough, it's been Israel who have given the US government the best intelligence on the Iranian situation and on the Islamist terror groups... and not the other way around.

The New Duranty Times story does not include the most damning information of all.

That can be found in the AP story by John Solomon. In the AP version, there is this at the end:

"Despite the managers' testimony, the FBI said it has fundamentally reshaped itself to ensure field agents who work the cases have the necessary skills, training, and background for fighting terrorism. It noted it hired or redeployed more than 1,000 agents to counterterrorism and hired an additional 1,200 intelligence analysts and linguists.

'We fundamentally changed the criteria for hiring special agents and intelligence analysts to ensure that we get the critical skills, knowlede, and experience we need to address today's threats." assistant director Cassandra M. Chandler said.

'New agents receive personalized training from Muslim leaders,' she said. 'Street agents and managers in every field office have gotten to know the Middle Eastern and Muslim communities in their territories and regularly attend training sessions sponsored by community leaders.'"

One would like to think that the last paragraph is simply a cunning facade, a pretense of believing that FBI agents can learn from the "personalized trainig from Muslim leaders" that Cassandra -- not a Cassandra enough, in my view -- Chandler mentions. One would like to believe that those FBI agents who "regularly attend training sessions sponsored by community leaders" are there only to observe just how taqiyya and kitman work, and to take notes on the ways in which Muslims lie about or misrepresent the faith to what they take to be credulous Infidels. One would like to believe that the FBI is full of people who know the theory and history of Islam, who have read about dhimmitude, who understand the all-pervasive nature of Islam, who realize that even "moderate" Muslims immediately go into a defensive mode about Islam whenever an Infidel is critical, that even the "moderate" Muslim may not be so "moderate" or may switch at an undetected moment's notice, that Islam is a threat to the American political and social arrangements, and its mere growth is a greater threat than acts of terrorism, and Da'wa and demography the most effective instruments of future Muslim domination, beginning with attempts to stymie efforts by Infidels to truly comprehend what Islam -- not merely a religion but a geopolitics, a plan for conquest, a Total Explanation of the Universe whose effects on its adherents can scarcely be comprehended, or plumbed, except by those who have been born into Islam and defected from it, or by those Infidels willing to put in a good deal of effort not only to study the texts, but to ponder how those texts affect -- are received by -- those who call themselves Muslims.

Alas, one suspects that Cassandra Chandler was speaking in forthright, no-nonsense, and completely innocent fashion -- the innocence of the supposedly "tough-minded" is perhaps even worse than the innocence of the appeasement-minded -- for we keep relying on these people, these FBI and CIA and National Security Agency people, and when they display such naivete, one is left worrying. Who is protecting us? Who is plannning and plotting our defense with the requisite all-knowing intellgence, the kind that can never be fooled? Who?

Hugh posts:

Thats the $64 question. Say the right magic word and a duck will fall out of the sky with a fifty dollar bill in it's beak. (For those who remember Groucho Marks).
The next question is, why are they staying stupid? You would think the collective bunch would be getting smarter, even if only by trial and error. Maybe this is contrived stupidity.
Some kind of a triple reversed psychological trick, to confuse the enemy. Weakness is strength, we are only twice as dumb as we look...
I can see where that might confuse an enemy, it confuses me...

Bill of VA,

The sooner Bush/Rice and co. disabuse themselves of Nathan Sharansky's pipe-dream of muslim democracies, the better they will be equipped to deal with reality. To their credit, they have upon occasion proven themselves capable of facing reality if it slaps them in the face enough times. They are slow to learn, but not totally incapable of learning. More than I can say for the left.

The feebs are the most incompetent and corrupt "law enforcement" organization in the whole of the US Government.

"muslim terror" just isn't on their radar screen.

Sensitivity to islam sessions are, courtesy of wahabbi terror-front CAIR and other (AADC) organizations.

Does anyone really think that when the Chief Law Enforcement officer of the land is sleeping with the saudis, the feebs are going to do much of anything, even if it means thousands more Americans die?

The FBI doesn't give a shit about dead Americans or the country. Their only interests are self-protection and coddling the CiC, in that order.

Time to wake up people.
