Norway's parliament, the Storting, recently resolved to ask the government to introduce the mandatory examination of the genitalia of small children in order to overcome the problem of female circumcision in some communities.Magnhild Meltveit Kleppa of the Center Party insists that this is not a gynecological check and said that professionals could detect sexual mutilation with the naked eye, something experts dispute.
"I believe it is difficult to defend such a resolution. The child can become an innocent victim and it can also make necessary contact with the health system difficult later," Torkild Aas at the social pediatrics ward of Ullevål University Hospital told newspaper VG.
Director Bjørn Busund at the gynecological ward at Ullevål agreed that in difficult cases doctors would have to touch the child's sex organs to carry out an investigation.

If social services believe that any child has been abused in any way then an examination is necessary. Dedicated Health professionals are trained in such a delicate task, and the interviews and disclosure that would accompany it. One of the many jobs done by the Mothers Union is the stitching of genitally accurate rag dolls to assist children explain directly or indirectly what and how happened. I have nothing but admiration for the sensitivity of the officers who carry out those examinations.
Female genital mutilation is nothing less than child abuse. Pure and simple. If a child has been abused, or may be abused then an examination should be carried out. I'm sure the professionals of Norway are well trained. "Just putting a little girl on her back and explaining that 'Now we are going to check what kind of parents you have'" is a ridiculous remark. We all happily present our children to be checked for weight, bruises, eyesight, hearing and failure to thrive. The nitty nora used to check my generation for head lice, we were told she was looking to see how curly our hair was, and how I wish she still existed! FGM is only another aspect of abuse.
It's a crime in most countries, like all other abuse, so lets see some proactive attention.

Otherwise you're discriminating against Muslims. Ridicilous, of course. But you know social-democrats, they think 'discrimination' is a crime worse than female circumcision.

I don't this is true. The barbaric practice of female circumcision predates Islam, and happens across Africa, not just in the Muslim-dominated areas.
Of course the girls at risk should be checked. Nothing should be more important than protecting children from mutilation. But it's not a matter of "discriminating" against Muslims, more like "discriminating" against Africans.
Maybe the doctors should just examine all little girls, as a matter of their routine social health care, to look for this barbaric and cruel form of abuse.
Clearly, if they have studied general medicine then these pretended pudeurs about the human body -at any age- are nonsensical.
What are they doing in the profession -as they try to maintain the health of all of their patients- otherwise?
They invited in the problem as a nation, now they have to handle it.
The rationales not to act are ludcrous and shameless.
Which parents object to such mandatory examinations most. The fathers, who for obvious reasons cannot know how painful FGM must be, or the mothers who do.

To those Norwegians who'd like to stop this barbaric practice in Norway, here's a thought.
Automobile accidents can, and frequently do, subject every part of the human anatomy to great damage. Some damage is obvious and visible, some isn't. The genital areas are no exception, and complete head to toe physical examinations of major accident victims are pretty common.
Norwegian born, Muslim girls have surely been in an auto accident or two over the last couple of decades. Or accidents involving airplanes, or boats, or buses, or...
When the next Norwegian born girl, regardless of her lineage, is found, during such an examination, to have undergone FGM, it'll be time to make a public example of the parents.
Get them to publicly, loudly, and repeatedly admit that:
FGM is a part of the very culture they fled.
FGM is NOT required by the Quran.
They KNEW it violated Norwegian law.
They KNEW it caused their daughter intense pain.
Offer a one-time amnesty to other Norwegian parents who've subjected their daughters to this horrific procedure.
Make it very clear that conducting FGM on Norwegian citizens is a criminal offense that will no longer be tolerated.
Make written acknowledgement of appropriate Norwegian law mandatory for all arriving immigrants.
And should left-leaning, liberal weenies oppose such measures, let them explain to the Norwegian nation precisely why little girls should continue to be subjected to this most anti-woman ritual.
If the West could get its women out of whalebone corsets and early 20th century China could put an end to footbinding (as late as the 1980's you could still see a few very elderly women hobbling around on "three inch golden lotuses"), Africa's various cultures can abandon FGM. The trick is to insinuate new attitudes into the home cultures themselves.
Then again, my money's on Norway deciding to ban male circumcision within the first month after birth (despite the trauma being quickly overcome, no lasting damage to the boy, and a possible advantages to cleanliness).

Although my suggestions are, IMO, valid and would do the 'trick' in Norway, your scenario is probably the more likely of the two.
I think it would be perfectly OK to check all girls for circumcision. We infidels could just explain to our little ones that some bad parents mutilate their little girls in order to control them. To help prevent that, all of us have to help, even if that means suffering a little embarrassment. It would be an extremely effective lesson at a young age about cultural/religious difference and how not all of them are acceptable to the West.
There is no equivalence between male circumcision and FGM as correctly noted by Kepha. FGM is a horrible, excruciating, bloody mess. The protection of children is an absolute no-brainer. Why there is even a debate about this is beyond my comprehension. I'm sure the gov't of Norway would love to find such barbarism within Christianity, wouldn't it? And yet for the PC crowd, thundering silence on this practice of FGM. Quite frankly, I don't give a damn what it's exact origins are, be they African or Islamic. FGM must be forcibly banned and it's practitioners be handed a lengthy prison sentence of no less than 15 years. 25 years for multiple infractions. No concurrent sentencing either, all sentences to be served consecutively. Anything less is a direct bloody betrayal of these little ones.
