'Operation Spear' Launched in Iraq

An effort to clean up the Iraqi Syrian border region. From AP via Fox News:

BAGHDAD, Iraq — The U.S. military launched a major combat operation Friday, sending 1,000 Marines and Iraqi soldiers to hunt for insurgents and foreign fighters in a volatile western province straddling Syria.

Operation Spear started in the pre-dawn hours in Anbar province to hunt for insurgents and foreign fighters, the military said. The area, which straddles the Syrian border, is where U.S. forces said it killed about 40 militants in airstrikes in Karabilah on June 11.

The operation came one day after Air Force Brig. Gen. Don Alston called the Syrian border the "worst problem" in terms of stemming the influx of foreign fighters to Iraq. Syria is under intense pressure from Washington and Baghdad to tighten control of its porous 380-mile border with Iraq.

The Marines have lost 11 men and two sailors over the past week in separate incidents around Anbar.

Elsewhere, a car bomber rammed into an Iraqi army convoy in northern Iraq early Friday, injuring at least seven people — three soldiers, three civilians and one policeman, police Brig. Gen. Sarhat Qadir said. The blast came on the heels of a car bomb on Baghdad's airport road Thursday that killed at least eight police officers and wounded 25 more...

An article on Wikipedia regarding 'islamophilia' needs additional information, quotes, links and high-quality analysis. As I know, the knowledge level of contributors on this weblog is quite high so I would like some of you help us in improving this article.
Please don't vandalise this page or post nonsense.

They should put that much effort into the US borders.

I just heard on the radio that a bag of burned Qurans were found at the front door of a mosque in the US. The FBI is investigating. I missed where this happened but I'm sure it will get mention elsewhere.
Why is the FBI investigating this?

I left you a message on the June 15 JW "Spain makes . . ." thread. Please respond there if you see it.

Dassit! Way to go, America. Take the battle to the enemy. And oh, puhleeeze let the Iraqi forces handle the interrogations of captured suspects. No more respectful reverential gitmo treatment for these scum, I say!

You are confusing two different posters, johnb (anti-jihad) and john_b.

You owe johnb (a regular) an apology.

CGW I didn't know that. Thank you for clearing that up for me also

I seems like a trolling poster is using similar names to those already here (mine was turned into "Big Sleep ist kaput" recently, but I guess they wised-up that this was too easy to spot, and went for the "johnb"/ "john_b" trick).

I noticed a link to a website -from "john_b"- that was calling Oriana Fallaci and Bat Ye'Or "batsh*t" -and got suspicious from there.

Dont give a damn. That project has been hijacked by Islamofacists. "Perscution of Muslims" is roughly 10000 word article whilst "Persecution of Hindus" contains hardly 3 lines! Moreover Wikipedia believes in NPOV (Neutral Point of View), somebdy needs to tell them that theres no such thing as NPOV any source is gonna have a bias towards one side or the other. All hindutva regarding articles such as: "Savarkar" look as if they've come straight from Leftist propanganda sites while Hindutva philosophy is misquoted. I recently got into an edit war in article "Pakistan" they say it comes in Greater Middle East :P!See:

Moreover almost all srticles dealing with Islam have this notice:

The neutrality of this article is disputed.
Please see the relevant discussion on the talk page.

When we were kids we used to put dog s--- in a bag and set the bag on fire and then after leaving the burning bag on someones porch we would ring the doorbell and run. I think it is a new version of that old trick. Now the muslims come running out and stomping on the burning bag they get QUARAN all over their feet...ick!

Germen & Vikrant-

I voted to KEEP the Wikipedia article on "Islamophilia", citing its necessity for the lexicon.

The voices for "delete" seem to be de facto jihadists getting worried that the truth in an opposing voice may be arising to undermine their pet word "Islamophobia", or their eunuch-minded fellow travellers of the 'tolerant to a fault' persuasion.

If the article wasn't hurting their fantasyland image of the 'Religion of Peace', and their clever p.c. tool-to-confuse-and-browbeat-with (the "homophobic" offshoot word that makes their faith seem like the underdog-that-everyone-will-sympathize-with) there would be no growing call at Wikipedia to excise this eminently useful article.

Propaganda like "Islamophobia" always calls up its antithesis. But the propagandists hate to lose their conceptual advantage. Or lone control of the playing field.

Fight onward!

And everyone at JW/DW who thinks we need to expand the debate and not censor it should go vote to KEEP this necessary neologism.

My compliments to the author(s).

Bracing, stimulating and intriguing work.

A remark about voting. The main reason why I posted this notice here was to solicit user input for the Islamophilia article. At this moment, the level of writing and its informational value is increasing day by day. It already is more 'neutral point of view' than the "islamophilia" article and thus illustrating that our arguments are sufficiently solid to be defended from a neutral point of view.
I do not advise to vote for or against deletion, just I hope that the level of the article will be made sufficiently high by all of you to warrant its keep.
