KARACHI - A Pakistani court sentenced an Islamic militant to death on Saturday for masterminding two suicide attacks on minority Shi'ite Muslims that killed at least 45 people, lawyers said.The convict, Gul Hasan, belonged to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, an underground banned militant group that has ties with the former Taliban regime in Afghanistan and al Qaeda-linked militants.
Judge Haq Nawaz of an anti-terrorism court said Hasan was found guilty of masterminding attacks on two Shi'ite mosques in Karachi in May last year, in which around 127 people were also injured...
Lashkar-e-Jhangvi is one of Pakistan's most feared militant groups and police have blamed it for much of the sectarian bloodletting in the country.
It has also been implicated in attacks on Western targets in Karachi, including the murder of U.S. reporter Daniel Pearl in 2002, and in two attempts to kill President Pervez Musharraf.
Investigators also suspect that the group was behind suicide attacks in the capital Islamabad and Karachi last month in which at least 24 people died, most of them Shi'ites.
More than 100 people have been killed in tit-for-tat attacks by majority Sunni and minority Shi'ite militants in the past year.
Most of the sectarian victims have been Shi'ite Muslims, who account for about 15 percent of a Pakistan's predominantly Sunni population of 150 million.

As a practical matter, will he EVER be executed?
There are many MMA associates who are just as guilty as this one currently serving as Senators and Congressmen in Pakistan.
Pakistan is almost as bad as Saudi Arabia. So.... this guy just got on the wrong side of the Intelligence service there. He probably disobeyed their orders.
If they actually do execute him, how will they do it? Beheading? I cant approve of beheadings, even for him. But if he was in anyway involved with Pearl's murder, or the beheadings of others, it might be something that Allah cooked up. Allah's version of poetic justice? Well I guess Allah knows best, but we will have to rethink the parts about most merciful, compassionate, and oft forgiving.

Otherwise he would be given cushy "house arrest" like their international terrorist mastermind and "Father of the Islamic Bomb" Dr. Qadeer Khan, who is now luxuriating in anonymous comfort, -although he should have been shot like the mad dog that he is.
Instead, we are boo-hoo-hooing in the Western Press over the 'tragic', 'heinous' and 'earth-shaking' crime, the (Holy Shiite!) "mishandling of the Koran" incidents at Gitmo.
I would have simply lined up the detainees and given the order to: "FIRE!"- and never let these terrorist scum read another word on Earth.
Then there would be no Koran problems.

Danny Pearl and Nick Berg were not killed in this relatively swift manner, as anyone who has seem the monstrous videos that their murderers posted online. To gloat over their psychopathia.
Pearl and Berg were not "beheaded" (which conjures an image of a quick guillotine dropping) but had their heads sliced off slowly -performed with "Allah Akbar!" squealing maniacs holding them down, and done by their killers like someone carving a roast. As vicious and as unimaginably cruel an act as anything the lowest dregs of our dubious species has ever publically committed.
All I would like is: one bullet through this terrorist's rotten skull. To put him out of his misery, and ours'.

Who cares. The war is here in the West. Iraq, Pakistan etc etc are of no consequence.

Dr. Qadeer Khan, a mad dog!!! don't think so, maybe a clever dog.
India scored a massive own goal by developing nukes, Pakistan is a much smaller country with a much smaller army, India had superiority but once they went nuclear they gave Pakistan a great chance to change the balance.

IIRC, India developed the bomb to counter China's bomb; a rational move, given China's aggression in Tibet and the India/China border 'war'.
And your implication that somehow Pakistan wouldn't have the bomb if India hadn't given them an excuse is pure humbug.
Dr. Kahn, with the collusion of the Pakistani government, tried to turn this into a commercial enterprise by selling the technology to some of the most odious regimes on earth.
