Do Muslims encourage religious diversity and tolerance? According to the ever-present myth of Islamic tolerance, yes. But in fact Islamic law only offers subjugation and discrimination to Jews, Christians, and other non-Muslims. The kind of tolerance being demanded of this Christian group is never forthcoming from Muslim groups, and is never asked of them. This is another example of the unspoken moral double standard that prevails in the West: enlightened multiculturalists profess to believe that all cultures are equal and all people have equal capability, but in reality they simply do not expect as much from Muslims as they do from Western Christians.
From The Herald, with thanks to Nicolei:
TEACHERS last night called for an investigation into an American evangelical movement that collects Christmas gifts from Scottish pupils and sends them to children in deprived parts of the world. The call followed concern that the charity, Samaritan's Purse, which runs the Christmas shoe box appeal, did not encourage religious diversity or tolerance.
Teachers at the annual meeting of the Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS) in Perth were told that the charity – which has been endorsed by Franklin Graham, the evangelical preacher – was anti-Islam.
According to members of the South Lanarkshire branch of the EIS, Samaritan's Purse took 30,000 Bibles into Iraq alongside US soldiers "at the barrel of a gun".
Delegates were also told the Welsh fire brigade and the Co-operative movement had severed links with the organisation because of its extreme views.
However, a spokesman for the UK-based arm of the organisation dismissed the claims and said parcels were given to children across the world regardless of their faith.
In the past few years, more than one million parcels have been sent from schools in Britain to orphans in countries such as Mozambique, Romania and Azerbaijan.
Kenny Elder, from the South Lanarkshire branch of the EIS, told delegates: "It has a very right-wing, racist view of religion. It should be investigated by the union because it has a growing presence in our schools.
"A lot of people involved in schools don't know about the views of this organisation, and I believe Samaritan's Purse does not have a place in Scotland's schools."
The charity's UK spokesman accused the EIS of "political correctness" and said there was no attempt to influence children by inserting religious leaflets into the boxes.
"It is a very sad day when a level of political correctness causes people concern just because a Christian organisation is involved," he added.
Yes.
The Humanist Organisation also criticised them for not informing parents whose children contributed to various appeals that they were a Christian organisation.
The organisation has a Christian name ! ! ! ! Who did they think told the parable of the Good Samaritan? Michael Jackson ?
Like the woman I posted about on the Devon Crematorium thread just below. Who didn't think our church toddler club should use a cross and a prayer.
These people are being blinded by anti-Christian rhetoric that has been repeated to the point of having the effect of brainwashing or is it fear of prosecution under the hate-speech crime laws that are popping up all over Europe?
Would that the EIS show similar concerns about Islamic "charities" and "outreach" programs operating in the UK and any activities they might be engaged in in their schools.
Whenever I hear the word "diversity", I cringe. I know that, like the words "human rights" it is the hobgoblin of smug little minds who think whatvever Americans, Christians and Jews do is bad, and give a pass to the most reprehensible behaviour of Muslims, Third-Worlders and others we supposedly oppress. How ironic that such honorable, high-minded concepts have been brought so low.
Scots wha hae wi' Wallace bled, etcetera?
Is this the Scotland of "Wee Geordie" (circa 1954) and "Tight Little Island"? The Scotland of Malcolm Hay and Patrick Geddes, or the new, and very much unimproved (ineed horrifying) Scotland that produced George Galloway?
Diversity, shmiversity. Cut the crap. As for the Welsh Fire Brigade, just this past Saturday I bought the Welsh Academy Welsh-English Dictionary, a massive tone, to go next to Naill O Donaill's Focloir Gaeilge-Bearla. Well, I'm thinking of returning it, in protest.
Ian Robinson, in Aberystwyth, what say you?
Muslims won't even give charity to non-muslims. Will these PC liberals have the guts to investigate that?
There is a list that is given out at the time that you participate in filling these shoes boxes for Samaritan Purse.
The list already anticipates PC from people and countries. The list is specific, "no leaflets, no Bibles, no religious material".
The boxes are filled with toys, candy, tissues, toothbrush, toileties.
When Samaritan Purse hands out the boxes they ask the child or parent if it is ok to give a Bible. Some countries don't allow the Bible given out but the boxes still go. So no one is forced with a Bible, and no little kid opens a box and realizes that he was forced with a Bible.
I have to admit I would rather see them read a Bible than a koran.
But lets see them take on Franklin Graham...he is not his father Billy Graham. He is NOT PC, remember Franklin was the one that said Jesus was the only way to get to heavan to the media.
He is preparing to take over for his father and take over the Billy Graham "CRUSADES" (I wonder when someone will go after him for that word).
alaskan1000:
Do Muslims actually give bona fide charity to other Muslims, or do they only fund the immediate cause of furthering the faith (mosques, madrassahs and, of course, jihad)?
Remember the worse than lame response from the Muslim world when the tsunami hit last Christmas. Paltry offerings from the Saudis until they were held up to ridicule and lots of "that's what you get for allowing infidels and their debauchery in your midst".
Didnt they just decide to yank the bible out of hotels up there so as to not offend the pious?
At the time of Christ, Samaritans were loathed by the Israelites so the point of the parable of the good Samaritan is about being prepared to accept help from people whom you despise and that they can be more benevolent and charitable than your 'own people'.
The tsunami situation brings this to life in modern times as Muslims found that the hated infidel was more willing to help out than their 'Muslim brothers'.
Sadly Muslims in Indonesia would probably be ignorant of this parable from the Bible as the qu'ran does not include a word of the message of Jesus even though it holds him as being one of the top prophets.
Hugh:
Do you have an address for the Welsh Academy? What price were they quoting for the W-E Geiriadur? How many pages? How heavy?
As an aside, you might check out "The Keys to Avalon" by Steve Blake and Scott Lloyd. Interesting read.
Diolch...
This nosense was started by a muslim from Stirling. He complaind about mr Graham after he told the truth about islam, that it is a wicked religion.I worked with young muslims in Glasgow Scotland the kids would come to clubs we had for them.Never the gils, they were kept in the house, the same with after school activities,no girls, the ratio of muslim boys going on to univesity in comparison to girls is shame on glasgow. The hatred towards Jewish people,Indians, and Americans that these kids showed was dreadfull,it was being spread through the mosque, with this talk in the city powers of inclusiveness, tolerance, womens equality, rights of everybody. The powers in Scotland are heart wrentchingly empty of wisdom and reasoning i see trouble ahead unless the truth is out
There are numerous stories like this. An Iman attached to a well known London hospital demanded that the Memorial Day for war veterans to be celebrated in the Christian chapel be cancelled as it was "offensive" to Muslims. The response from the hospital administrators was the usual cowardly and craven one we have come to expect and they announced the ceremony would be cancelled but the patients revolted and demanded the ceremony go ahead which it did. This is yet another example of people who have settled in the UK for their own economic benefit but openly profess dislike of our customs and traditions.
Another example is a local school in my area which has been forced by a court order to put halal meat on the menu. The economic benefits are obviously great for the cousins, uncles etc supplying the school with meat. The French and Dutch have woken up and smelt the coffee. The great majority of Brits dislike this kind of thing but our "leaders" in their wisdom allow the law to be twisted to suit a minority who are obviously very skilled at getting their own way.
Someone mentioned upthread about the bible being removed from hotels. In fact, it's another public service, the NHS in Birmingham which thought it would be a good PC move to remove the bibles. The excuse was that Bibles might be infected with the MRSA super bug as well as causing offence to other religions (we all know which one.)
"Do you have an address for the Welsh Academy? What price were they quoting for the W-E Geiriadur? How many pages? How heavy?"
I made two mistakes above. The first was a trivial typo: "Naill" for "Niall."
The second was to refer to my Welsh-English Dictionary, when in fact what I have is The Welsh Academy (Geiriadur yr Academi) English-Welsh Dictionary, publised by University of Wales Press, Cardiff, 1995. The authors are Bruce Griffiths and Dafydd Glyn Jones.
Sorry to have misled you. But I will still describe the English-Welsh Dictionary , and hope that you will be able to find the Welsh-English Dictionary you seek. It is 1750 pages, very heavy, and because it was at a library sale, I paid only a few dollars, which was why I bought it. But you never know when a Welsh-English Dictionary is going to come in handy -- I might be visited by the anathematizing ghost of David Jones. Or as a New Year's Resolution, I might vow to enter the marathon and by mistake sign up for the Eisteddfod instead.
Hope you find your desired dictionary. You can't have too many.
JW is absolutely correct; there are huge double standards amongst these PC halfwits. If a Saudi organization were sending boxes with little Korans and Middle Eastern goodies to needy Scottish kids, they would deem it as a “delightful gesture which will spread cross-cultural understanding”. A US organization sends some boxes off to Muslim kids, and all of a sudden it is some kind of imperialistic right wing evangelistic plot to undermine the cultural integrity of oppressed minorities – or whatever. However, this remains purely hypothetical as no Muslim organization would ever do shit for poor non-Muslim kids.
The whole PC thing is totally out of control in the UK. Here is an example of some idiocy which doesn't specifically relate to Muslim issues (though, nine times out of ten, Muslims are involved.) Museums all across the UK are removing "sacred" objects and locking them up in their basements. To quote from "The Art Fund" magazine - "The Hancock Museum in Newcastle has put in separate boxes items that can only be seen by men, and material that can only be seen by women. In addition, objects are not put on display to the public, who could be considered of the wrong cultural background...... The Museums Association code of ethics already argues that this practice should operate across the sector. The code asks museum professionals to "consider restricting access to certain specified objects where unrestricted access may cause offence or distress to actual or cultural descendants...... Ratan Vaswani, the ethics advisor, endorses the restriction of access. He argues that "while restricting access to certain objects sits uncomfortably with liberal values... the effect of such restrictions is unlikely to be sexist or racist in the same way as discrimination in, say, recruitment for a job." It beggars belief doesn't it? How far can this madness go and how much longer are ordinary people going to put up with this unelected elite interfering in every aspect of our lives. Far better to lock the objects up in a dusty cellar than let someone of the wrong sex or faith look at them - if that's not sexist and racist, I don't know what is.
