The land of Spain was once under Muslim control, which makes it permanently Islamic (the Caliphate of Al-Andalus -"Andalusia"- centered at Cordoba).

The Spanish will have to return it all before the threat ends.

But, living as second class citizens won't be all that bad.

I don't remember the article exactly, just the basics, and I don't know where to find it, although it was discussed in several posts here at JW.

The gist of it is that there were school textbooks being used in the USA (and perhaps Canada) that included a section instructing the students on how the Arabs were the first to discover the New World and that they had intermarried with Native American tribes, several of whom could trace their ancestry to muslim culture and who had adopted islam. (Never mind the sorry state of Arab seagoing technology during the relevant time period.) Of course, we all know that this means that the New World automatically becomes "muslim land". This had already been and was in the process of being TAUGHT when some Native American groups got wind of it and essentially went nuts, demanding that the textbooks be withdrawn. Apparently a female muslim editor had inserted the offending sections in the textbooks prior to publication and no one at the publishing company had either proofread or objected to what was added. The teachers just went ahead and taught what was in the textbooks as if it were gospel. I believe that the offending texts were removed from the schools in question, although they may still be in circulation, I'm unaware of the current status. Sorry I can't provide more facts.

That is one reason why I believe it is IMPORTANT to point out that the Koran mentions th ename Israel - but NOT the name Palestine.

About naval technology: the Arabs really dominated seagoing trade in the Indian Ocean until the fifteenth century, but that was mostly by default. Their naval technology had not greatly improved since the days of the Roman Empire, and most trade took place overland, by caravan route. Even in those regions which in Roman times had relied mainly on seaborne trade - Syria, Egypt, North Africa - turned, in Arabic times, to land trade: it is significant that while the Roman capitals of these countries - Alexandria, Antioch, Carthage - had been harbours or at least near the sea, the Arabic ones - Damascus, Cairo, Kairouan - were inland and dominated land routes.

The Chinese might have broken the Arabic monopoly of the sea: in the 1440s, they built and sailed a spectacular new ship, bigger than anything that had ever sailed any waters, and sent it on one of the greatest journeys of discovery on record - covering the Indian Ocean as far as Mozambique, and quite possibly discovering America. However, this had been a piece of prestige expenditure by a particular government, and, with a political change at court, the great ship was dismantled and the sea left to the Arabs.

Now European seagoing technology had, during this time, undergone a revolution - even a series of revolutions. It began among the heathen Vikings in about 800AD. Not only were the Viking dragon-ships objects of tremendous beauty - anyone who visited Oslo's Ship Museum will remember them as long as he lives - but I do not think it is exaggerated to say that they were the single most important invention, politically speaking, in the history of the world. More than gunpowder, more perhaps even than the press. They altogether changed the relationship of man and the sea.

I read a lot of Roman, medieval and Icelandic literature, and I can say that the difference between them in their attitudes to the sea is enormous. To Romans and Greeks and Jews and Christians, the sea was a thing of terror, which only a special category of men with "souls of iron" (Horace) ever thought of crossing. The Book of Revelation promises that the renewed universe would contain "no more sea".

When you come to the Icelandic sagas, you are in another world. The Icelanders took to the sea like any one of us would take to the road, with confidence that their ships would take them to wherever in the world they wanted to go. To them, the sea was an open road to any country in the world. There are stories of sea disasters and wrecks, of course, but they are treated in much the same light as we would treat a road accident - an accident. In general, the sagas just mention that someone took sail - for England, for Norway, for Constantinople - and the next thing you know, he is there, as if getting to such distant places by sea were the easiest thing in the world.

This fantastic seagoing technology, far beyond anything known anywhere in the world, did not have the full effect it might have had, because it was not pointed anywhere. The northern Atlantic, which the Vikings mastered and colonized, was a barren and external sea, on the edge rather than at the centre of the civilized world. But when the Viking communities were absorbed, one by one, into the Christian West, converting to Christianity and establishing diplomatic relations with the Christian countries, their technology became the common heritage of the West.

The first thing that happened was that the Mediterranean became a Western lake; and this in spite of the fact that the Muslims dominated two-thirds of its coasts. The Muslims were permanently driven out of all the islands - Sicily, Sardinia, Crete, Cyprus, Malta, the Balearics - and never returned to most of them. Then the land assaults began. Neither the Crusades nor the re-conquest of Spain could ever have taken place without the decisive European superiority on the seas.

Of course, European naval technology seeped in turn to the Muslims, leading to such things as the loathsome Barbary pirates; but, in a sense, this itself proves the greater weight and importance of European as compared to Arabic naval activity in the Mediterranean, since piracy is and has always been a parasite on sound trade, and cannot exist except in the presence of constant rich pickings. So the Barbary pirates were parasites upon the massive European trade. And the Europeans continued to hold most of the islands; ; in spite of the enormous power on land of the Ottoman Empire, Cyprus did not fall again until 1570, Crete until 1666, and Corfu and Malta - let alone Sicily - never.

But it was when the Portuguese began to poke their noses southwards and eastwards, circumnavigating Africa and eventually reaching India, that the superiority of European craft became clearest. In no more than twenty years from their arrival in 1492, they simply destroyed all Arab trade and replaced it with their own; and that in spite of the fact that Portugal was one of the smallest and least important of European naval power. Its naval empire in the Indian Ocean lived on its own resources, paying for the wars that destroyed all Arab competitions with the trade that they could carry out so much more efficiently than any Arab trader. The descriptions of naval battles between Portuguese and Arabs are harrowing; one historian has compared them to aliens in a sci-fi movie, simply destroying everything in sight.

What had happened? Simply this: that while the Arabs, secure in their control of all the strategic points from Egypt to Indonesia, had failed to develop, the Europeans had gone far beyond even the wonder of the Viking longship. The European galleon was a triumph of technology; astonished Japanese visitors - and the Japanese were used enough to the sea - spoke of floating cities.

Even so, the meaning of this did not register on Muslim eyes (after all, this same historical period which saw the Portuguese seize the Indian Ocean and the Spaniards invade a New World, also saw the Turkish Empire triumph in the west and the Mughal Empire in the East): they did not in the least understand what it meant that the Ferengis could now travel to anywhere in the world and feared no rivals on the high seas. It took the advance in European land war technology in the late sixteen and early seventeen hundreds, which turned the tables permanently against Muslim armies on land as well as in the waters, to make them begin - and only begin - to realize that they had been overcome.

Some in my family are Native Americans, and I hope one had a hand in extirpating this preposterous piffle from the un-proofread textbooks.

That the teachers merly taught this bogus b.s. with no concept, themselves, of its validity, sounds about right from what I've seen of the current level of educators in U.S. schools. Intellectual inquisitiveness and ongoing self-education take a back seat to careerism, coasting and complaining.

I'm sure advocates of the Restored Caliphate are combing old Ripley's Believe It Or Not files for a sign of Arabic coins, etc. found on American soil, pre-1000 A.D., to justify their future claims to North America being "Islamic Land".

Thanks for the naval history info.

Given that the tribe in question was the Algonquin, and based on informative posts back when we were all discussing this absurd theory, the consensus was that the Arabs would not have been capable of a north Atlantic crossing prior to the time period during which the Norsemen accomplished it.
