Unfortunately, Khameini is correct in saying this. The American submission, or dhimmiti, to islam is obvious to everyone. We tiptoe around their shrines and mosques like scared little girls. Until we stop "battling insurgents", fighting "foreign entities", or "confronting the Saddam loyalists", and get on to the real order of business: killing moslems and destroying their holy sites because "Islam" is the enemy, we will never win the real war against the real enemy.

If a 14th-century Pope's statement had been certified by John Paul II in 1991 as representing Catholic orthodoxy, I would say it was fair to take it as representing current Christian thinking, at least on the official Catholic level.

If I had hung everything I said about jihad in "Onward" on this quote from "Reliance of the Traveller," then you might have a case. But in fact you will find citations in the book proving that this view of jihad is held in essentially the same form by all four major schools of Sunni jurisprudence. Moreover, Al-Azhar is well-known to be the most respected authority in Sunni Islam: a voice of immense influence. You can do a simple Google search to find AFP, the New York Times, the BBC and others calling Al-Azhar Islam's "highest authority." I do not use that term, as I believe it is misleading to Westerners who do not understand that Islam has no central authority; however, there is no doubt that the word of Al-Azhar carries immense weight.

Similarly, if the learned Imaams had not elucidated and expounded the Ahadith they too would have remained abstract to us and the Ulama after them would have found it beyond their ability to make this meaningful to us. Thus, their link of guidance has been established by Allah Almighty. Whoever tries to break this link is certainly not in the path of guidance. In fact, such a person has clearly gone astray.
It is for this reason that Hazrat Umar ibn Khattab (radi Allahu anhu) said: "Soon there will come a time when you will be confronted by people who will entangle in controversies with the ambiguous verses of the Holy Quran. Overpower them through Hadith, because those who possess the knowledge of Hadith will be in the position to understand the Quran." (Darimi, Darqutni)
Hazrat Imam Sufyaan bin Ainiyyah (alaihir rahmah) said: "Hadith can lead anyone astray except those who are Jurists. The reason being that the Quran is abstract which has become clear and meaningful through the Hadith, while the abstractness of the Hadith is expounded by the Four Juristic Imaams. Thus, if anyone now attempts to extract meanings of the Quran and Hadith without the four Imaams, he will go astray, and he who tries to understand the Quran without Hadith will grope the abyss of ignorance."

Couldn't have said it better myself, 3rdtime. The name Palestine is entirely foreign, by the way, to Arabs. They can't even pronounce it. They say "Falastin" in a botched attempt to say "Palestine" or "Philistine". In fact, the Land of Israel is so unimportant to Islam that it has never even had an Islamic name.

These are:
Either one should stay apart from non muslims, and not participate in the democratic process OR one should participate with the goal of bringing Sharia Law and doing away with democracy.

a) your view of women cleary betrays your sexism, as you apparently cannot imagine a woman who is not some virtuous innocent princess spoiled only by external influences, nor can you imagine a woman being "capable of fighting" to impress her will upon those around her;
b) the west's very obvious problems with pornography and promiscuity do not in any way indicate the validity of islam, as there are other competing religions & moral standards which address the same problems without the "kill the infidels" baggage;
c) the fact that some christian or jew at some point in ancient history said something bad about women doesn't make your case that these religions currently or conventionally oppress women;
d) the jews gave women property rights long before islam existed, as seen in the last chapters of job & proverbs;

True, Moses was learned in the ways of the Egyptians (so the book of Hebrews tells us), Daniel was educated, and so was Paul, and clearly Luke and the author of Hebrews were, too. I suspect that the Jews of ancient times fostered literacy among the common people long before the idea became popular (and isn't it odd that several of the first to make the idea popular were countries which, in the wake of the Reformation, were steeped in the Bible--Scotland, for instance). I agree with you re languages. Even if the Bible writers did have a scribe (of which some did), being educated, in literacy and dictating, and being illiterate and dictating are to very different things. It would be easy for the literate (in Mo's case) to decieve him. I have heard some speculate that this is exactly what happened.
That Mo had either a Christian or a Jew write the Koran (in other words - the literate in the civilisation in which he lived), and that person wrote it full of contradictions so that it would "implode". Trouble is, nobody today reads the Koran!

Qur’an 4:15 “If any of your women are guilty of lewdness, take the evidence of four witnesses from amongst you against them; if they testify, confine them to houses until death [by starvation] claims them.”
