Women organisation hail disallowing of Muslim tribunals

Women hail the recent victory over Sharia in Canada. From UNI, with thanks to Jacques:

Toronto, May 30 (UNI) Muslim women organisations in Canada have welcomed the Quebec legislature's decision to disallow Muslim tribunals for family matters in the province and that the laws of the state will apply to all its residents, regardless of religion, ethnicity or culture.

Describing the motion passed unanimously by the Quebec legislature as a ''courageous act'', the Canadian Council of Muslim Women said though it may be criticized by some, its message is strong that religious women will not be isolated and placed under any other form of law.

''Quebec has clearly understood that different laws for different citizens leads to discrimination and have nothing to do with multi-culturalism or Charter rights,'' said Alia Hogben, Executive Director of the Council.

However, the Council regretted that the motion did not include a statement that no religious laws shall be used in the province.

It said this move towards separate laws, according to religion, is being advocated by other religious groups and is not restricted to Muslims only.

''We hope that Ontario will follow the same reasoning and demonstrate the courage to state unequivocally that all Ontario families must be treated equally under the laws of the land,'' Hogben said, referring to Muslim women organisations' struggle against Ontario's move to bring the province under Sharia.

I suspect for every Muslim domiciled in a western democracy who longs to live under Sharia there are many, many more who were happy to leave it far behind and wish only for the liberation of the folks back home.

A non-Dhimmi judicial ruling. Wow!

Oh come on, King tolerance. Surely these women are being intolerant of the entire relgion of islam, as sharia law is one of it's main pillars of support. Have you nothing to say against their bigotry and hatred?

I quite agree. How can these women be so racist as to disallow sharia, which many very reasonable muslims believe should be foisted on the entire world (including most of the trolls here), and thereby to paint all islam with an intolerant brush.

O' mighty King, how can we solve this problem? Or: who will rid us of these bigots?

I think islam might have something to say about that. And it usually comes in a modified interpretation of Q 2:256. Maybe King could read that - or have his nephew read it to him - and get back to us.

Imam Geoff

I still find it incredible that this ever got to the table for an up and down. Do the Canadian Provinces not have any historical and established basis in fact laws that are at the roots of Canadian history? Where is OH Canada,Oh Canada! Would they have been so inclined to juxtapose sharia with Canadian laws, even if it deals with family law, and business laws it would be a very dangerous slope to go down and pursue. Hopefully Ontario or any of the other providences can clearly see the writing on the wall when it comes to the totalitarian ideology that is Islam

If they are opposed to Sharia law, why are they still muslims?

Wasn't Sharia law handed down by Allah?

What is this, the Geoff and Gary show??!

Anyhow, your comments have given the King more insite on how your brains are processing this subject matter. You are both approaching this as reverse extremists - you are only accepting a purely extreme interpretation of the Koran as the be all, end all. Its not but you don't want to accept that since it would mean that you are wrong. Do carry on, your bigotry and ignorance speak for themselves.

Of course, being a moderate means that you are able to adapt your religion and its interpretation to suit modern needs and emphasize progress. These Muslim women deserve praise and congrats. for stifling extremism and supporting moderation. They were able to do so in an environment that supports moderation and has no need for radical extremism. Sorry that this flies in the face of the "Mutt and Geoff" interpetation.

LOL KT.

I want to only accept an extremist version of the Quran? Well well. Given your expertise in Quranic theology - or maybe if you could at least read the first Sura or something - I'm sure you can outline how a literal interpretation of the Quran isn't important, and then back that up with other islamic jurisprudence in the same vein. I'm certain that the islam world body is just gagging for a non-muslim's take on the whole "Allah" thing.

Then, you could outline a brief plan on how you're going to make the muslim-majority nations follow your tune. For after all, if women can oppose sharia in a protected state like Canada, surely they could do the same in Syria, or Saudi Arabia, or Pakistan, Egypt, Sudan, Morocco, Jordan, Iran...

Your stupidity speaks for itself. Really. Loosen your crown.
