A "very, very small number" of foreign extremists...

These British ministers are ignoring the likelihood that even if the perpetrators were foreign, they very likely received aid and comfort from British Muslims. From the Telegraph, "'Foreign terrorist cell' was behind London bombings," .

Police were last night searching for a foreign-based Islamic terrorist cell after it was disclosed that three of the four bombs that hit London last Thursday exploded "almost simultaneously".

Ministers now believe that the bombings - which left at least 49 people dead in Britain's worst terrorist attack - were the work of a "very, very small number" of individuals who arrived from mainland Europe or North Africa on false passports within the past six months.

The authorities are braced for more atrocities as part of what they fear will be a campaign of terror by an active Islamic cell - although they believe that other European capitals are equally at risk.

The immediate investigation centres on King's Cross after transport police said that all three Tube bombs exploded within 50 seconds at around 8.50am, on trains that had stopped at its underground station within the previous 10 minutes.

One investigator said: "It is likely the terrorists were together initially before going their separate ways. This theory has the most credence."...

How small? Very, very small. Oh, okay, that makes us all feel so much better. And safe. No worries, mate. She'll be right. Just as long as I know it's just a very, very, very, very, very, teeny, tiny, eeny, meeny, teensy, weensy, miniscule, microscopic number of these misunderstanding, hijacking, extreme radicals who take the holy Koran out of context and don't understand the poetic nature of Arabic and all.

Hugh -

You're a life saver. Just galloping along trying to catch all these stories this morning.

Busy Sunday.

Thanks!

Rebecca

Not according to former Metropolitan Police chief Sir John Stevens in this quote from the DBC.
Former Metropolitan Police chief Sir John Stevens earlier warned the London bombers were "almost certainly" British.

Lord Stevens told the News of the World it was thought 3,000 British born or based individuals had been trained in al-Qaeda camps.

He said that authorities believed that either they, or others they had passed their knowledge on to, were most likely to be responsible.

They would not "fit the caricature al-Qaeda fanatic from some backward village in Algeria or Afghanistan", Lord Stevens said.

I never have much luck with the News of the World website (too many betting and topless pop ups, no Vikrant, get back to your research) so this is the DBC link.

The main story is about the Arch Druid (sorry Arch Bishop of Canterbury) meeting with Sheikh Zaki Badawi, head of the Council of Mosques and Imams to mouth some platitudes which are no longer fooling anybody
I can say this here, the man is a pratt, and I am sure that the Ugandan Bishop John Sentamu was elected to York to give us some sense. I can't find anything specific that Dr Sentamu has said about Islam but his run-ins with Idi Amin which led to his leaving Uganda will have given him an inkling.

But back to the first thought. They will be British, they will be such quiet lovely lads who played a mean game of cricket. And they will be cleanshaven and disguised in normal clothes. One of them may even be a woman, who has nobly sacrificed her modesty to set out in an office suit in the cause of jihad.
