At least 22 Iraqis were killed by four suicide bombs Sunday, a day after more than 90 died in an attack. From the Christian Science Monitor.
BAGHDAD – A devastating blast south of Baghdad, the latest in a series of suicide attacks aimed at undermining Iraq's US-mentored political process, has raised the temperature between Sunni and Shiite political factions and revived dormant questions about the effectiveness of government security forces. The attack Saturday evening, involving a tanker truck at a gas station near a Shiite mosque, killed more than 90 people and wounded more than 150 in Musayyib, a mixed Sunni-Shiite town 40 miles south of Baghdad. It was the deadliest attack since the elected government took power at the end of April.
And Sunday, four suicide car bombers in Baghdad attacked security patrols and offices of Iraq's electoral commission, killing at least 22 people. On Friday, there were at least seven suicide attacks throughout the country that killed some 30 people. This all came on the heels of last week's suicide bombing that took the lives of some 50 people, including more than two-dozen children.
Shiite parliamentarian Khudayr al-Khuzai called on the government Sunday to "bring back popular militias" to protect vulnerable Shiite communities. "The plans of the interior and defense ministries to impose security in Iraq have failed to stop the terrorists," he told the National Assembly.
The man believed to be responsible for Saturday's explosion apparently detonated himself next to the flammable tanker, triggering a huge blast that severely damaged several buildings as worshipers were headed to the mosque for sunset prayers. Town residents said they believed the truck's driver was an accomplice in the bombing.
An angry crowd blamed policemen for a security lapse, saying that trucks are supposed to be banned from entering Musayyib, which has witnessed several previous suicide attacks this year against Shiite targets. Some of the protesters called the police "agents" of the Sunni-led insurgency, which has attacked Shiite mosques, US troops, Iraqi security forces, and the government.
Following Mr. Khuzai's outraged speech in parliament, other members of the Shiite-led majority bloc said they also wanted militias to help stop such attacks. "We need militias to provide protection," said Saad Jawad Kandil, a member of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), a key party in the Shiite-led alliance that dominates parliament...
The lack of respect for life in that region is truly appalling. How can we continue to allow the cause of such blind hatred, Islam, to root itself deeper in our own United States? All in the name of what? Some "Utopian ideal" that we can scrawl as epitaphs on the graves of our loved ones months and years from now?
Lunacy. Wake up America. What we see going on in London and Iraq and Israel -- it can and will happen here on U.S. soil if we do nothing to stop it.
Islam is the Enemy. Reform or Remove it.
I guess what I find surprising is the apparent Sunni death wish. If I had been in a position of power, and had abused it, plus was in a group that made up only 20% of the population....and had been given a second chance to survive AND have some government power, although less then in the past...it makes no sense to act in a way that could end up with all my compatriots being wiped off the face of the earth.
What am I missing?
Once again nobody seems angry at the Muslim suicide bombers , the Police and Bush will be blamed just as the London bombers are blamed on Iraq and Bush.
Muslims in London have only condemned the act of suicide bombings against civilians and have yet to actually blame the Muslims doing the killing, the Islamic cleric's in England ahve also used the language of CAIR and Ibrahim Hooper by using the term "Innocent" or "Civilians".
As we now see in the MEMRI posting of a video
by a Londom Imam, there are no "Civilians" within Islam and as we all know from the JW website the
term "Innocent" means those not against Allah and Islam.
Ergo , all non-Muslims are the enemy of Allah and valid targets for muder by suicide bombers as
stated by Dr.Muhammad Elmasry when he opined about how every person in Israel over 18 is a soldier by proxy and can be killed on buses since they dress as civilains to blend in while travelling.

-- from the article above
The American forces are trying desperately to train an "Iraqi" army. No such army can exist. There may be a very few who think of themselves as Iraqi, but what will a Sunni in such an army, where his fellow soliders are Kurds and Shi'a, feel inside when he is to join them in operations against fellow Sunnis? And equally importantly, what will cause the Shi'a and Kurds to trust him? And the same goes for the Kurds, vis-a-vis the Arabs, and vice-versa. The American officers and men are being forced to do the impossible. It is cruel to ask it of them. It is cruel of civilian leaders to force the American army to work in conditions where they must remain ignorant of, or behave as if they are ignorant of, the real history of Iraq, and the real feelings of the distinct groups within Iraq, who hardly understand the concept of citizenship, much less that of loyalty to the nation-state. A few do -- the few whom the Americans who make policy have met and talked with and been impressed by, a bit more impressed prior to the start of the war, and in its earlier stages, than they are now, when they are beginning to realize that they were snookered, American arms used to obtain the goals not of the United States so much as of those people in Iraq who knew they needed to make a plausible case for the removal of Saddam Hussein, and were willing to promise all sorts of enormous changes at the last minute -- changes to the mental makeup of Iraq, to Iraq's position in the "Arab world," that would not, and could not, result.
Let the militias operate. They will be far more efficient and far more ruthless, than the Americans have been. Let the Kurds keep their Pesh Merga, and support their effort, which 98% of them have voted for, at establishing an independent Kurdistan. Let the Shi'a give back to the Sunnis just a bit of what the Shi'a have been on the receiving end in Iraq for so long, and in other parts of the Muslim world as well. It will do everyone good. And when both sides seek support from outside, it will be good if a proxy war develops, say, between Iran and Saudi Arabia, just like that proxy war in Yemen in the 1960s that helped to bleed both Nasser's Egyptian army and the Saudis, each backing a differnt faction in Yemen.
Infidels have nothing to lose, and a world to win.
how can PCniks (worldwide) miss this same lesson, repeated over and over, and continue to offer any form or any degree of appeasement of psychotic insanity
muslim jihadists killing innocent muslims
as retribution for non-muslims "crimes against the muslim world"?!?!
further silence and appeasment by the PCnik class will lead to more and greater scale indiscriminate murder by jihadis - everywhere
Hugh,
Sadly what you said will happen, yes there are benefits, but it would still be a shame, but the thing is it is down to the Iraqi's to decide and they (or their leaders) are already showing that they have learnt and understood nothing.
Soon as the militias come back we should just make sure the Kurds are strong and get out, but knock off Sadr before leaving...
Things like Iraq have to understand that we have to destroy the terrorist bases, not thinking that they can change because they can´t, western democracies are an utopy there. Don´t invade other countries, is a waste of american lifes, we can´t to bomb the terrorist bases, criticising islam and boycott the islamic countries. We can´t change them, they have to change.
But, but... All Iraqis support the insurgents, that is why such militias don't already exist! The unrealists on the far left told me so... Sigh.. What am I supposed to believe now? lol
