Iraq jihad update from AP via Fox News, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm.
BAGHDAD, Iraq — A man strapped with explosives blew himself at an Iraqi military recruiting center in Baghdad as homicide bombers attacked three times in Iraq on Sunday, killing at least 33 people and breaking a relative lull in violence in recent days. The attacks pushed the death count to over 1,500 people killed in violence since April 28, when Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari announced his Shiite- and Kurd-dominated government in a country under attack from an insurgency led by Iraq's Sunni Arab minority.
At least 14 other people were killed in attacks elsewhere overnight and into Sunday, and the body of kidnapped Iraqi karate association chief Ali Shakir was found floating in the Tigris River southeast of Baghdad.
In the deadliest blast Sunday, a homicide bomber blew himself up at an Iraqi military recruiting center at Muthana airfield near central Baghdad, killing 25 people and wounding 47, according to the U.S. military and hospital officials...
In the northern city of Mosul, a homicide car bomber rammed into a police convoy carrying Brig. Gen. Salim Salih Meshaal, killing four policemen and wounding three, police said. Meshaal was not injured.
A homicide car bomb also exploded in Kirkuk, killing at least four civilians and wounding 15, police said. The attack occurred on a highway near a hospital and municipal building and the force of the blast toppled a few trees and shattered windows in surrounding buildings.
The bomber used a Mercedes Benz and the target appeared to be civilians because no military or police convoys were nearby, authorities said. Most of the casualties were people headed to Kirkuk General Hospital, police said. Three of the wounded were hospital employees.
U.S. troops also blew up a car parked nearby rigged with a bomb apparently intended to cause more casualties as security forces arrived at the scene of the first blast.
A third car bomb was found near the bus station in Kirkuk, 180 miles north of Baghdad, and authorities evacuated the area while police said they were looking for two other car bombs in the oil-rich city...
An easy way to increase the body count is to rig a second explosion to kill the first responders. This is a common tactic used by jihadists attacking Israelis. We are seeing it occur more and more in Iraq.
Cowards! They don’t have the balls to face their opponents face to face.
Is it not ironic that Islamist apologists- both Muslim or not- call the London jihad attacks as 'payback for the deaths of Iraqis' when in fact, the US led coalition who liberated Iraq is the one defending innocent Iraqis from the violent depredations of the jihad roaches attempting to impose their bullying on the same Iraqi innocents?
Why are they now calling "suicide bombers", "homicide bombers"??? Some more word magic no doubt...this time from Fox news...Cant we trust any news agency to tell the truth without spinning it in jihadi's favor...
And Tony Blair just gave them 2 billion more to buy more cars and bomb material.
Like Hugh says, until these leaders have the nads to admit the real problem, This will just continue on in an endless cycle. New recruits are born everyday, and begin their training almost immediately after birth, and begin advanced hate training as soon as they are old enough to attend the madrassa's.
It must become crystal clear to ALL Muslims that they must choose the laurel branch not the arrows -- We're fantasizing if we imagine they're ever going to lift a finger to confront the evil aspects of their religion. After all, the violent tactics, fascist intolerance, and supremacist world view that embodies Islam PROMOTES THE MUSLIM AGENDA VERY NICELY -- Why in the world would they abandon tactics that have worked so well and for so long!!!???
The question is -- How can we raise the stakes for ALL Muslims so that they STOP tacitly or actively supporting terrorism... So far, if their side is to be believed, we have killed 100,000+ "innocent" Iraqis, and the Arabs are just getting started with their terror offensive. Yes I know they use this as a pretext, like they use the Palestinians or 'Koran abuse' canards -- since they blame us for everything anyway why don't we begin to do 'EVERYTHING' to them in earnest??? How much worse can their propaganda get if we actually begin to do some of the things they already accuse us of??? -- They've maxed out the propaganda button already.
I see no signs of demoralization, no signs of exhaustion, and no signs they think they're losing... The Muslims in London continue to speak arrogantly out of both sides of their mouths -- they magically continue to twist these Muslim attacks against us and depict them as infidel aggression against them -- they have it rigged so it's win-win for them, and lose-lose for us!
How do we make it SO COSTLY for ISLAM that the 'vast majority of peace loving Muslims' really stop protecting, stop supporting, and stop becoming terrorists?
Clearly handing them concessions isn't an option... as Tony Blair did the day after G8. The first thing he talked about was $3bn in aid to the Palestinians. What a stupid attempt to curry favor among our enemies -- they just laughed all the way to the bank, and no doubt credited the London bombings for the largesse. We have to begin to paint a very vivid picture for Muslims so they understand what will happen if this continues to escalate. We have the ways and means, but so far not the will perhaps. Keep in mind that they are not cowed by the idea of subsequently toppling their totalitarian regimes one by one -- this is their goal too -- and they know they will have succes and gain momentum in any toppled regime's aftermath... So much for democracy in Arab or Muslim lands... This is becoming painfully clear to me in Iraq.
I supported the war in Iraq, and still do. But we must begin to amplify their own blame game -- Call them out for the bigots they are... blame their religion for all the violence, blame all Arabs for their tribalism and backwardness, blame their Islamic stone aged cultures for the deplorable conditions they find themselves in. Why are we striving so hard to fix their broken religion, and their broken culture ? It needs to be SHATTERED for once and for all -- If we continue to spend blood and treasure to 'fix' their horrid society it will only come back to bite us HARD.
Islam's rigidity and paranoia strike me as clear signs of a fragility which we must exploit ruthlessly. Use their shame based culture/religion against them -- it isn't hard to point out how deplorable everything they touch becomes... It won't be hard to hold the mirror up to reflect their feral hatred, their savagery and backwardness... Why do our leaders continue to pet them and coo over how peaceful they are when EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS A COMPLETE LIE?!?!
If they have foolishly defined an'US vs. THEM' game -- LET'S CALL THEIR BLUFF -- if they want to play then we must convince them:
WE WIN -- YOU LOSE
Again, what are the ways and means? I know we possess them...

Looking for an officer in the US military who would publicly contradict the official policy of the Commander in Chief is futile. No military officer who wants his job would do that because he would be a civilian in short order.-- by pismopal
Yes, how convenient for Hugh. His erudite theories, which seem to be born in the Ivory Towers of academia, would carry more weight if shared by someone whose opinion actually mattered, whose opinion was born of real military experience. Maybe he could reference one of his distinguished collegues in the publishing world (other than Spencer), or perhaps the 24-hour News World. There are countless pundits, analysts and commentators with previous military experience who no longer labor under the threat of "early retirement" and who offer their perspective on the Iraq War on every network and cable channel on the dial. Then there are those who publish for prestigious journals such as Global Defense Review, FMSO, Army Magazine, Army Times, War Times Journal, and Parameters, among others. If he could cite a "talking head" or even an online article that supported his Policy of Retreat and Surrender, a policy that sacrifices Iraq to Civil War and ultimately the Forces of Evil, it might give him some much-needed credibility. As it stands, his theories languish on the fringe.
Speaking of which, here's a question for Hugh. Other than Jihad Watch and Dhimmi Watch, where else have you published?
Farewell to Jihad Watch.
To JW Admins, I commend you for the fine work you do exposing the ugly truth about islam. However, in all honesty, your solutions to the problem of Iraq are wrong-headed and dangerous, and are best reserved for the nether regions of the Internet, where diletantes like yourselves can wallow in the minutia of Pie In the Sky hypothetics and theories. As for real solutions, those are best left to professionals.
Good luck,
