Finally a piece of good news: it seems that 61 percent of british muslims (oops, muslims who live in britain...) want to leave the uk for a more muslim friendly country, especially younger muslims?
Why don't we help them find a new home in some middle eastern country? We could even offer an "exit bonus" (say 10000 pounds to every muslim who leaves the country and signs an agreement never to return.

The behavior of the KKK had *nothing* to do with the spread of Christianity. Your attempt to shoe-horn it in intellectually dishonest, as a minimum. Likewise, the majority of the damage caused by the European settlers was unintended, mainly from disease, although other, deliberate activities did occur. I would also point out that your arguements are rather banal, being the typical left-wing hand-wringing of the last several decades and bring nothing new or substantial to the discussion. Lastly, your inability to admit that mayhaps something in wrong within Dar-al-Islam, as evidenced by the Koran, the Suras and Hadith and the past and present quotations of imams and other leaders, supports the supposition that you are, at the root, intellectually dishonest.

In South America, most of the religious conversion was done by Jesuits who only took arms to defend the natives against the very settlers you have mentioned. As an aditional note, one might add that in South and in Central America, the high rate of Amerindian admixture in the local populations shows that the "violence" (sic) was quite moderate, particularly when compared to what happened in the Anglo colonies where the native populations were systematically wiped out - a process that only ended in the late XIX century.
I am not saying that the colonization of South and Central America was peaceful. I am saying however, that if that arrogant and violent attitude that you mention had been adopted by Portugal, the 25.000 settlers that lived in Brazil by the end of the XVI century would have been completely wiped out.
As to Spain, what I can say is that the Spaniards were more tolerant than what is usually believed. As an example, few people bother to know that the sworn enemies of the Mexica (aka Aztecs) - the Tlaxcalans - were the joint rulers of New Spain, and they were given a status equivalent to that of Spanish nobility for several decades (in Mexico only).
Violence was used, because XVI century men were violent by XXI century standarts. Now, considering what the protestant English settlers did to the Australian aborigines in the XIX century, what the Dutch id in South Africa or what the Belgians did in the Congo, I find it despicable to single out the only two colonizers that actually managed to preserve significant aspects of the culture of the natives. That is, in itself, evidence of the consideration that some colonizers had (and that some didn't).
And to actually follow Spanish and Portuguese colonization with a sentence about the KKK, well, that is simply disgusting. Ignorance may be a virtue, but only for the ignorants. For the rest of us that have to put up with that bullshit it is torture.
Oh, and as a sidenote: when the Portuguese reconquered Brazil from the Dutch, their greatest allies were the Brazilian natives. Twenty or so years of Dutch rule were more than enough to show the natives that the (Catholic) Portuguese were much less harmful than the (Protestant) Dutch settlers.
Spain had a Bartolomé de las Casas, Portugal had a father António Vieira, France had a Jean de Brebeuf. I would love to know what great apostle of the Indians England/America had to be proud of.

Speaking of the aztecs, I don't see a great deal of difference between islamic suicide "martyrdoms" and aztec human sacrifices (the only difference is that the person conducting the sacrifice dies along with the sacrifices and the number of victims per sacrifice).
How can the west continue to condone a religion that encourages ritual murders and human sacrifices in the year 2005?

I dont understand why I am wrong to fear this wave of terror backed by Islam. I dont understand why I am wrong for wanting traitors to our country deported, such as Muslim leaders who preach death to America while living in America or the toothless whitetrash man planning a military coup against America. I believe Freedom of Speech should have limitations. Threats and incitement should not be protected as a right.
It seems some who come to this site only do so to start arguments and to put themselves on a Pedestal of moral superiority. It's amusing (and depressing) how King Tolerance is so quick to minimize the religious motive of the Islamic Jihadists, yet he feels compelled to maximize the Christian factor of the Conquistadores and the KKK (for which cruzado and Cthulhu, respectively, effortlessly provided the logical & historical counter-argument which any sophomore should be able to grasp) -- when the religious factor of the Islamic Jihadists is preponderantly substantiated by their background, their behavior, and by their very own vociferously sincere and theologically scrupulous words.

That individual is quite ignorant, really. The work of the Jesuits in the Americas, in Africa and in Asia was absolutely incredible, and I am not even a religious person. By the end of the XVI century, Japan had 150,000 Christians, converted by a team of missionaries that numbered less than a few dozen priests. Did those missionaries use "violence" to convert those 150,000 men? (laughter!!!)
Francis Xavier - founder of missions in India, Japan and China; is the patron saint in Goa and revered by both Christians and Hindus in India. When a man is loved by his own "enemies", it is assured that the man was indeed special.
I have never heard of a single population that converted to Islam without coertion, greed, or out of frustration.
