From the Indian Express:
MUMBAI - Aspiring MLA, pilot and self-confessed Al-Qaeda operative, Mohammed Afroze, was found guilty of conspiring to ‘‘commit terrorist acts on territories of nations at peace with India’’ and of forgery by a POTA court today.Special Judge A P Bhangale, however, acquitted him of the more serious charge of waging war against the nation.
The court sentenced him to five years’ rigorous imprisonment for planning to bomb several cities the 9/11 way and to seven years’ RI for forgery. Both sentences will run concurrently. He was also ordered to pay a fine of Rs 20,000...
He only got five years for plotting mass murder, but seven years for forgery? What's wrong with this picture?
According to the prosecution, between 1997 and 2001, the three accused had conspired to hijack passenger planes and crash them into the House of Commons in London, the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in the US, the Rolta Towers in Australia and Parliament in New Delhi.‘‘Uncle Mubarak Musalman told me to work for Al Qaeda, train as pilot. He sent me Rs 1.5 lakh by hawala. I met Mansoor Iliyaz, Al-Qaeda chief in Melbourne and the (9/11) suicide squad members. I was selected for targeting Parliament in London,’’ Afroze had said in his confession...
7 years !

FYI, India's Parliament was attacked in late 2001, much after the 9/11 tragedy. Islamic Terrorists attacked the Parliament in a daylight shoot out that left all the terrorists dead but also security had its casualties as well.
On the anniversary of the attack, none of the members of parliament bothered to attend any type of memorial for those who defended the parliament and died.
Furthermore, all those who were linked were openly walking around in Pakistan, under the protection of the Pakistani government, with the American goivernment's full knowledge, but nothing could be done because:
1. India's rulers cater to the Islamic vote-bank.
2. Pakistan is America's ally in the war against terror, although everyone knows that both Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, as well as UAE, are the greatest sources of terrorism we are all facing around the world today.
3. The American' Government refers to any terrorist attacks in India as "India's own domestic disputes", thus note putting a spotlight on the Indian crisis.
Believe me, I admire the American forces, and America's resolve to destroy this evil, however to think that Indians are not paying a heavy price especially since Hindus have been facing this terror a lot longer is being ignorant(no offense intended) to what has been going on for well over a two decades.
When the Bhamani Buddhist statues were destroyed by the Taliban and Hindus were being forced to wear yellow markings are their clothing in Afghanistan (reminiscent of the Jewish stars worn by Holocaust victims during the Nazi era) by the Taliban, no one cared, because Pakistan created and supported the Taliban and Pakistan was America's Ally.
KAshmir was invaded my the Pakistani army, hindus were killed (but who cares?), Christian Nuns were raped and their convent destroyed located close to Barmulla (spelling?) in 1948 Battle for Srinagar. And yet, no one cares to remember because politics is a dirty game.
Only now do people realise what many in the east having been screaming about for decades. No one believed us when we warned that Pakistan was not a friend but a wolf in sheep's clothing.
However, getting completely off track, and back to the point.: We Hindus do not get justice in India, so why would you expect justice for anyone else in India?
But to those Americans who have woken up and realised that we are faced with a threat so grave and powerful, it threatens the very existence of all of us who believe in freedom, peace and co-existence, these Americans I admire for standing up an fighting back.
God bless America and all those who are fighting for their survival in the face of the Islamic onslaught.
Cheers.
Sorry for all the typos

A great post! and you will find much sympathy here for the Hindus who have suffered so many centuries under the yoke of islamic aggression.
I used to wonder why Buddhism whose birthplace is India had become almost vestigial in your country and why it had thrived in countries (such as thailand, Laos, sri lanka) unaffected by the incursion of Islam.
Perhaps you have some ideas on this.
everything is relative and the light sentence from the Indian courts may have been even lighter had the trial been held in a progressive liberal country such as UK.
Gorkhali, I care. That is why there must be a realignment. Who are our real allies and who are our real enemies? I know. You know.
Right now, just trying to get the concept of what the Muslims want to do to the world into our leaders' head is our first priority.
Reading that no ceremony was done on the anniversary of the Parliament attack is disturbing and disappointing. We have become so numb to all the murder anniversaries, tragedies now just fly by, and we say "Oh yeah, on this day 50 were killed at ..." and the next day we say "Oh yeah on this day 100 were killed at.."
Where are our leaders? Come out of that dark closet of denial and take action. Stop all inbound Muslim immigration now. Just one step to start. Australia is already talking about doing just that. Why can't America?
Reset
Having some idea of Indian prisons, I wonder if this chap will come out alive after 7 years. Esp, when the other prisoners know there`s a terrorist is among them.
chevalier de st george: just an explanation as to what happened to Buddhism in India-the whole lot esp. in the State Of Bihar were totally decimated. The books at great centres of learning were burnt.
By Muslims.
I am a Hindu myself and I second what Ghorkhali has said - me and my friends here in the UK, were surprised when the London bombs went off. We stand with you in your greatest hour of darkness, but spare a thought for my brothers and sisters in India who have been mercilessly killed for decades in Kashmir, but in your eyes [ I mean in Western eyes ], the Kashmiris are Independence figthers and not terrorists. Open your eyes. We Indians have lost more in one week than your losses in an entire year. Please wake up NOW !!!
calm down ole chap... Welcome aboard... "TheHindu" there r lotsa British Hindus here (rather almost all Hindus here are British) including me. Well to Gorkhali... are u of Nepali origin or Indian I've got lotsa Nepali friends here (i live very close to Sandhurst Military Academy) as Nepalis outnumber Indians in Camberley... Now back to the topic... Heres how Times of (Islamic) India goes on about this news: Suspected Qaeda operative u see they've now replaced militant with operative as if Qaeda is sum sorta Street Gang our Bismillah Broadcasting Corp may take a cue frm 'em.

MLA - Member of Legislative Assembly (India)
But
There are some jihad related activities that turn up with that acronym too.
Vikrant:
MLA stands for (elected) Member of Legislative Assembly. An MLA is to state legislatures what an MP is to National Parliament.
Gorkhali:
Its not true that everybody has forgotten the sacrifices of the securitymen in Dec'2001. In fact, the Vajpayee govt was so angry at the paliament attack, it ordered the army mobilized - Opertaion 'Parakram' involved some 600-800,000 troops, probably the biggest military mobilization seen in recent times - and sent to the border and prompted a tense 12 month standoff. Yup, Pak peed in its pants what with the US launching a war in Afghanistan and India mobilizing on the eastern border. For a while, South Asia did become a nuclear flashpoint.
As for attending anniversary memorial services, believe me, you dont want it to become a rote ritual - like the death anniversaries of Raji, Nehru, Indira etc have become, eh?
I would still have hope in India's future though. My prediction is Pak will disintegrate within 10-15 years' time. Then we will see....
Namaste,
@volettiji: Yes you are right there was a massive moblisation, I was in India at the time as a visiting Physician, and was quite impressed by the Indian military strength being amassed at the border. However, we must also remember that Vajpayee (whom I had the unfortunate pleasure of having lunch with during my visit to India in 1995, he is not a practical leader, he was much better as simply an opposition leader) had his ridiculous notions of grandeur when he went to Pakistan in a bus, and also when during the Kargil war he gave instructions not to cross the LOC, which amounted to heavy Indian casualties.
But getting back to the Parliament attack anniversary, no one really cared. However, your comment about "like the death anniversaries of Raji, Nehru, Indira etc have become, eh?" was hillarious, in fact it is because of these leaders that India suffers.
@Vikrant_Camberleykar: Yes, Vikrantji I am of Nepali origin, not just that I come from the house of Gorkha (or Gurkha, ie/ Prithvi Narayan Shahdev), however my ancestors are Rajputs, thus in Nepal I am referred to as Thakuri, but since I am young I am referred to Kunwar.
I am a young doctor, still wet behind the ears, born in the western hemisphere presently deciding on moving to the US.
Cheers, Jai Maha-Kali, Ayo Gorkhali
Vikrant,
MP - Member of Parliament [India]
MLA - Member of Legislaive Assembly [Indian States].
Unlike the UK, India is a Federal republic [of sorts] - we have about 25+ states each having its own state assemblies and its members are called MLA's. There is a 'central' government seated at New Delhi , members of which are called MLA.
Nobody cares about the soldiers who have laid down thier lives in India - because we lose so many of them eveeryday.

should read MP and NOT MLA
It's good to see that some of us are driving the correct point. I strongly believe that the support we are getting from International community is real pathetic. UK and US are differentiating terrorism on their lands with that of India and Israel. Unless they do exactly what they are saying, no state on this world is gonna be free from terrorism. Scenes like 9/11 and London bombings are only the begining. The moment the nations lower their alert, there would be another attack and then another and the scenario would go on. If Pakistan based terrorists organizations are cleaned out, then I am sure half of the terrorists strength will fall down.
As per Gorkha if we have to memorise the scarifice the soldiers those who protected the Parliament, then I would say that we would be doing injustice those who died and die daily in Kashmir and elsewhere. If we keep memorising all of them, then we Indians will have to make it our daily routine to visit the places and memrise them. I don't say we shouldn't memorize. It's only not practical for our soldiers are dying by day not by occasions in attacks.
For your comment on Atalji, I would say the oldman has no way other than to pull back the military from Pak border then, since he must be under pressure from US and UK. Do you remember how Mr. Blair downplayed India after attacks on Indian parliament?
Seriously, I see one reason behind death of thoousands of innocent Kashmiris as UK and US with their ambiguity and selfish desires. I don't have anything against US and UK, and sympathizes with those dies in London bombings and 9/11 attacks, but strongly feel that it is a consequence of their own governments, much like ours. How many US citizens know that Osama Bin Laden is a by-product of CIA operations during the war of Afghan against Russian invasion? How many Britains asked Mr. Blair to atke strictest actions against Pakistan based terrorists camps? Why is there no Afghan like investigation in Pakistan? All answers are USSHHH!! (gup chup!!!)
