Moral equivalence from "Red Ken" brought to us by Haaretz, with thanks to Sr. Soph.
Less than two weeks since the London terror attacks, the city's Mayor Ken Livingstone has sparked controversy by defending the use of suicide bombers in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and charging that Israel had indiscriminately slaughtered Palestinians in acts that "border on crimes against humanity.""Given that the Palestinians don't have jet planes, don't have tanks, they only have their bodies to use as weapons," Livingstone told Sky News in an interview.
"In an unfair balance, that's what people use," said Livingstone, who has often been strongly critical of Israel in the past.
On July 7, more than 50 people died in four London bombings believed to have been carried out by suicide terrorists.
At the time, Livingstone was uncompromising in his condemnation of the terror acts.
Livingstone said that Israel has "done horrendous things which border on crimes against humanity the way they have indiscriminately slaughtered men, women and children in the West Bank and Gaza for decades."
Livingstone also said that he does not distinguish between members of Likud and Hamas, branding them "two sides of the same coin."
"I think it is the Israelis who are leading the stubborn line," said Livingstone. "The Likud and Hamas members are two sides of the same coin. They need each other in order to attract support."
"Each side emphasizes the extremism of the other in order to attract sympathy," Livingstone said...
Saying that just after the suicide attacks in London is disgusting.
Londoners, please vote this man out of office.
The Muslims love him, and are becoming a formidable voting block in London. Excellent. (in the style of Montgomerey Burns of The Simpsons). The plan is working perfectly. In the US, our first Islamic city will be Dearborn.
It’s a bloody shame that real innocent people had to die while this excuse for a human being was on an all expenses paid trip to Singapore. One that was paid no doubt, by taxes of the same innocent people that were killed by scum following the same perverted cult that his "oppressed" Palestinians follow. And its their adherence to one of its basic tenants (death to Israel) as to why they were occupied in the first place.......meaning, they tried to wipe the Jews of the face of the planet and got their asses kicked (three times I believe) and that’s why they are now living in occupied territories.
It’s also a bloody shame that he wasn’t on one of those trains, standing right next to one of the above mentioned scum. I know that’s a pretty low statement but I can’t help myself when it comes to this utter bastard. Sorry to all my relatives over there, but I am glad my dad moved out to Oz when I was a young kid and I don’t live in London and have to put up with him as the voice of my city. Not that I think we will be untouched here for long though……..I am just waiting for it to happen over here………and that is a depressing thought.
At least if there are attacks over here, some good will come of it, that being that more and more people will be waking from their slumber and starting to investigate for themselves what Islam in its true form is all about…….and that can only be a good thing. Things are starting to “hot up”, and I feel there is a reckoning coming soon for all those who despise our way of live. Beware the grizzly bear that has been rudely woken from his slumber………
p.s. had to use a grizzly bear metaphor as I'm 99.9% sure that Kangaroos don’t slumber for the winter and koala bears wouldn’t have the same dramatic impact……their just to cute.
oops they're just to cute.
Granny, Dafferds, Zico, et al:
when are the next municipal elections being held in London? Even if there is a large Muslim constituency, how will Red Ken's relationship with Qaradawi play out with the majority of voters?
What a scumbag for a mayor. A real toadie for the Muslim-leftsist "narrative" of the "Palestinian struggle". Where Muhammedans are noble savages who are put upon by the clever Jews.

Western policies are to blame, says Livingstone
By Andrew Sparrow, Political Correspondent
(Filed: 20/07/2005)
Ken Livingstone yesterday blamed western policies for contributing to the spread of the extremist beliefs that inspired the London bombers. The mayor of London highlighted the West's role in the creation of al-Qa'eda by saying: "We created these people. We built them up. We funded them."
His comments coincided with remarks from Muslim extremists that went much further, claiming that ministers were "the real terrorists" and that voters were to blame for the attacks because they returned Tony Blair to power.
Mr Livingstone has condemned the London bombings in the strongest terms, and immediately after the attack he was widely praised for the way he spoke up on behalf of all Londoners.
But yesterday he abandoned his consensual approach when he claimed that western policies in the Middle East, Afghanistan and Iraq may have influenced the bombers.
Mr Livingstone said: "This particular strand of extremism was funded by the West in Afghanistan. Osama bin Laden was just another businessman until he was recruited by the CIA.
"I suspect the real problem was that we funded these people, as long as they were killing Russians. We gave no thought to the fact that when they stopped killing Russians they might start killing us."
Mr Livingstone also defended Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the controversial cleric who visited London at his invitation last year and who had been scheduled to attend a conference in Manchester next month.
He said Mr al-Qaradawi was a "leading progressive Muslim" who was not actually going to the conference and who had condemned the London attacks.
Asked about Mr al-Qaradawi's apparent support for Palestinian suicide bombers, Mr Livingstone said the cleric's views had been misreported.
In a separate move, Anjem Choudary, the UK leader of the militant Islamist group al-Muhajiroun, interviewed for BBC Radio 4's Today programme said Muslim leaders should not meet Mr Blair.
"The British Government wants to show that they are on the side of justice and of truth, whereas in reality the real terrorists are the British regime, and even the British police, who have tried to divide the Muslim community into moderates and extremists, whereas this classification doesn't exist in Islam," he said.
"Either you are a practising Muslim or a non-practising one, and I cannot envisage that any practising Muslim would sit with the Government, especially with the blood that they have on their hands and the atrocious foreign policy they have and the aggression they are committing against the Muslim community in Britain."
He added: "We need to see what caused this particular effect, otherwise we are going to continue in a cycle of blood and I believe another 7/7 is a very real possibility."
Another radical Muslim, Sheikh Omar Bakri Mohammed, said British voters were to blame for the London attacks for not making enough effort to stop the Government committing its own atrocities in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Right! So if little Israel would only stop defending herself, the problem would be solved!
Now ISRAEL is resposible for the London bombings!
How on earth did this apology for a human being manage to crawl out of the woodwork?
Follow the money. Track his campaign contributions. This pustule sounds and smells like a saudi whore.
Waterdragon52,
2008 sadly.
The problem with Red Ken is that he has principals that he sticks with, unlike other politicans, though whether the majority of people agree with him is another matter. He is seen as a genuine guy who is a bit off his rocker at times. He has so many contradictions that he can appeal to a large part of the population.
Personally I do not understand how anyone can vote for him, but that is me. As I only commuted into London I did not have the vote.
The Muslim vote in London is with him and of course the left, who dislike Tony Blair so much that they voted for him in the first election for Mayer rather than the official Labour candidate.
I would estimate there are in London around 250,000 Jews and 750,000 Muslims (a figure that is inevitably on the rise). As far as voting blocs go, Livingstone certainly knows which side his bread's buttered.
Of course, for the Mayor, it's not just about showing public support for Palestine and all the other Muslim cause celebres, it's also about working directly in the interests of Muslims in the name of 'diversity'.
Consider the case of the Darul Uloom Islamic School - a Deobandi-origin boarding school for boys, located in a leafy part of greater London where there are few local Muslims. A few years ago the school wanted to expand (no funding problems at this establishment). Problem was it bordered protected Green Belt land - so the local council refused planning permission. Nearby residents opposed the expansion too.
Never fear - Ken to the rescue! Despite the environmental implications Livingstone gave the scheme the go-ahead because of "very special circumstances". Namely - "The existing international, independent, charitable boarding school for boys of the Muslim faith is culturally and strategically unique within London and southern England, and the proposed extension would accomodate essential facilities required to enable the school to operate more effectively."
It's difficult to imagine circumstances more special, is it not?
So it was the school got the green-light for their expansion - albeit a scaled-down version. But with growing demand among Muslim parents for places at such schools, how long before the next planning application?

Islamification - in microcosm.
Ken's bias is absolutely astonishing!
No hope of reversing this dhimmi. Have to groom a candidate for the next election. Pack the voter rolls (like the muzzies do). Get busy now.
waterdragon52, daffersd,
In the last mayoral elections there was massive voter apathy especially seeing as the local and European helds were held simultaneously. For example in my street only 10% of the electorate voted. That is why a fringe candidate like Livingstone can win.
As for Red Ken having principles that he sticks to, not really because in the 1980's he was mocked for the extremes that he took in his obsession with gay rights. However now he is happy to fawn over al-qawadari who proposes that gays should be thrown from high buildings.
He obviously realizes that the Muslim population of London now outnumber the gay and lesbian.
The BBCs report on this piece of near treason
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/4698963.stm
And those comments on it they thought fit to print. None of mine explaining what a dhimmi was and how he fitted the mould.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/talking_point/4699937.stm
Note that the one person who sees this correctly as part of the plan to establish the worldwide Caliphate is a Muslim. Note also how few of the comments printed were from Londoners.
There is no voice of reason left in this country or in Europe.
People simply cannot think beyond their nose, an election, a seat, the vote. We need a Churchill here. I hope Blair will prove to be one - but what can he do when 'think tanks' in this country publish reports blaming the war on Iraq for 7/7
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4691979.stm
70% of people in the UK believe that attacks were caused by the Iraq war.
I cannot bear to see this public rape of England - the worst is they seem to be lying back and not noticing it. Looking at them and listening to them you will never believe they once ruled the world.
The big reason according to me is extremely faulty and biased reporting in this country its full of Guardian-like crap and BBC is so full of cowshit. I hope the British wont lose the propaganda war in their own country that is consistently and incessantly being waged by the Islamists - how can they ignore the liberation of the majority Shia, the Kurds in Iraq.
Can America continue to rely on them as a reliable ally?
Granny:
Thanks for the links. The "man in the street" opinions certainly speak to my contention last week that in the end, no matter what, the existence of the State of Israel is objectionable to too many Brits who have bought, lock-stock-and-barrel into the notion that Jews are alien to the Middle East and that Muslim apartheid is the natural order of things. Otherwise, they'd be supporting the passage of UN resolutions against Saudi Arabia for its legislated and enforced ban on any non-Muslims entering Mecca and Medina and all of the other sanctions it puts against any religion other than Islam.
Elephant
He is pro gay and that is fact, even though he fawns over al-qawadari he is still pro-gay, which must cause gays a certain amount of confusion. From my point of view he is consistent in his views even if they conflict, I am pretty sure that within his rather twisted mind he can justify it...
I was in the UK for the first vote, but not for the second.
Granny what about this:
"Ken Livingstone is one of the few high-profile 'politicians' to condemn the bombing in an even-handed way, for which he should be applauded. He will win the hearts and minds of more than a few British Muslims for his comments."
So if your working class you are a victim, but middle class then you deserved what you got, I found his so called statesmen like speach very offensive.
I think that the only way to get negative comments in BBC speak is to pretend to be a foriegner, because the BBC is racist against white people who speak their minds. I can't believe a Muslim wrote that, it must have been someone pretending to be a MUslim just to be able to get the point across, if a white person had made that postit would never have been posted.
I think the BBC needs to be reformed, its an absolute mess. When I was in the UK I watched the Channel 4 news which was good quality and unbiased. I gave up watching the BBC news unless I came in too late for the Channel 4 news.
Let me repeat what I said earlier...
"Why does Sweden, America, Canada, England, etc. "need" Islam? We know why Muslims "need" to immigrate: so they can make a lot of money, raise money for the jihad, and spread Islam. But what do "we" get out of it?"
You and I get nothing out of it. Surprise!!
But the politicians who drive the multicultural agenda get lots out of it. (eg. Ken Livingston)
Poll after poll after poll, reveal that the multi-immigrants reward with their vote, the party in power when they were allowed to immigrate.
The ultimate goal of the party in power, is to stay in power (and to reward yourself and your fiends).
SaveEurope,
Are you looking at the number of pro-comments compared to the number of negative comments, well is rubbish, people like me don't bother posting anything on the BBC site as it never gets posted, that little sample is not representative of the UK at all, its representative of the BBC mindset which is sadly out of touch with the UK people, and certainly more so than any tie I have seen.
Chatham House and Economic and Social Research Council, described as a think tank, I think they should be sued under the trade description act for that worthless pile of trash, it that is the quality of their work they can't have many customers...
Same for me as a typist
A very interesting site I found, on the subject of immigration. Dar Al-islam, Dar al-harb
http://www.lpj.org/Nonviolence/Sami/articles/eng-articles/Islamigration.htm
I just wish that Kenny, would simply admit openly that Jews are at fault for everything, and he thinks Hitler had a good start... That way we wouldn't have to give him so much attention, and everyone would know him for what he really is. Why pretend your mayorshi.. It's obvious to us. Stop pussyfootin' around and be a man. Say it, you coward.
Does anyone think I'm wrong about him?
From granny's link, two Muslim points of view:
First, the all too common, uniformed view:
Far more innocent people are dying in Iraq after the western intervention than were before. Whose fault is that?
Arshad Mahmood, Luton
Second, a refreshingly intelligent point of view:
As a Bengali British Muslim Londoner I disagree with Mr Livingstone's attempted linkage between the London bombings and Western foreign policy in the Middle East. Although the events in Iraq are a factor, the fact that three of the four bombers were of Pakistani and not Arab origin shows that these people are part of a diffuse but coherent Islamic supremacist ideological movement bent on creating a worldwide Khilafa (Empire) in order to vie with the technologically and economically advanced (but in their eyes spiritually bankrupt) West.
Iqbal Ahmed, London, UK
PRCS:
Thanks for wading through the largely egregious comments and pulling out Iqbal Ahmed's frank and intelligent response.
And to the writer from Luton -- 60% of the jihaddists are from Saudi Arabia, and they are, far and away, responsible for more deaths in Iraq than the occupying forces.
So, whose fault is it really?
Relevant blasts from the recent past:
1.
"Ken Livingstone, who presumes, has always despised America (which does not keep him from hiring an American expert to make those underground trains run on time), and of course he is also a great beater-upper -- ca va sans dire -- of Israel. Like "Gorgeous George" Galloway, the Glaswegian hireling of Saddam Hussein (whose money many believe helped Galloway buy his modest vacation retreat in Spain), Ken Livingstone has earned his own moniker: Red Ken.
Red Ken, or Redken as some prefer to call him, when not being mayor of London, is also a well-known shampoo. One can only wish that London voters will wash that particular shampoo right out of their hair. And then vigorously apply some anti-Jihad conditioner.
Posted by: Hugh at July 13, 2004 10:41 AM
2.
To continue the theme adumbrated above. I just bought shampoo (the brand is “Marc Anthony”—it was not so much the reduced price as the hint of Shakespeare’s paraleptic Roman, that clinched the sale), and the bottle promises that its contents will, like a passing beauty who leaves one hot and bothered, “soulève, gonfle, et épaissit” (lift, volumize, thicken). And this brings relevantly to mind, in regard to that not-so-odd couple, the Mayor and the Muslim, those unforgettable lingerie ads that line the walls circumjacent to the escalators – those that go up, and those that come down -- of the London Underground.
Now as Ken Livingstone proudly showed his honored guest round and about old Londinium, did he by any chance show off that Underground, and therefore those lingerie ads, or was it limousines all the way for the Salon Bolshevik and the Quran-quoting Qaradawi? If Red Ken, in the same spirit as the Commissars who in the 1930s liked to bring Western tourists to view the gleaming Moscow Metro (“But where are the trains!” those tourists would ungratefully point out), did offer Q. such a tour, one would like to know how Monsieur Q. reacted to those advertisements, which can leave even an unaccustomed American blushing and flustered. Perhaps if his furious reaction were to have been translated, Red Ken might have looked a bit more closely into the previous protests of women’s groups, might have found out more about Qaradawi’s strictures on women’s dress, and women’s behavior, and the need for women to submit to their Qur’an-designated superiors, that is to say -- men.
And even if R. K. and Q.-q. Q. did not visit the Underground together, possibly they had a chance to take in the National Gallery. It would have been fascinating to hear Q. explain to K. through a seamlessly-bowdlerizing translator why all the statues needed to be broken or defaced if they were even to be permitted to continue to exist at all, and why, under Islam, all the paintings other than landscapes, all the depictions of famous personages, and of course anything that had a Madonna, with or without a bambino in her lap, would have to go, along with all paintings showing a saint, or a Biblical figure, or a king, or a general, or a nobleman, or any historical personage, or any non-historical figure not being held up to ridicule, because such depictions are haram, haram, haram, and don't you forget it. Perhaps Q. could then have given K. a copy of his own guide to righteous Quran’ic living, What is Halal and What Haram, even pointing out the passages that explain this unassuagable hostility toward sculpture and portrait paintings in great detail). Of course, Ken, you dimly recall what happened to the Bamiyan Buddhas, and to the frescoes formerly on the walls of the Byzantine churches of Constantinople, and to those tens of thousands of Hindu temples, and to churches all over North Africa, and Mesopotamia, and Syria -- or do you? Perhaps Ken Livingstone, a compleat homo politicus (which makes any Jack a dull boy) is not fond of art himself; he may see it as a luxury item, after all. And much of Western art, as the Kens of this world see things, corresponds to the taste of rich patrons only trying to immortalize or flatter themselves, in their commissioning of paintings and sculpture and furniture and garden follies, all paid for with the loot, as seen through the narrow lens of a narrow Ken Livingstone, accumulated through the exploitation of the working class, or the exploited colonials beyond the seas. Just look at that arch-connoisseur Kenneth Clark’s family fortune, no doubt the result of Lancashire girls spinning thread from dawn to dusk, or the liquor-store fortune of Bernard Berenson, or of course those impossible and intolerable Medicis, all those sinister Lorenzos and Cosimos. What decent human being, I quite agree Ken, what decent human being can even stand to look at the paintings and sculptures that were produced for those Medici, those rich Florentine swine.
Yes, Ken, on second thought, probably you and Q. would have had much to nod in agreement about, as you walked through the National Gallery, or the Tate, or any of those other decadent centers of intolerable Western art. And Ken, wasn't it your favorite Russian writer who said that a good shoemaker was worth more than Pushkin, than everything that Pushkin had ever produced? Isn't that a world-view, isn't that an aesthetic creed, Ken, expressed so memorably and succinctly, that makes you a brother under the skin of Q-q. Q.?
And since Islam is now the vehicle of choice for those wishing to express their fury at their own perceived marginalization (psychic or economic), their own often self-induced alienation and hatred of Capitalism, of The System, of The West, of Amerika with a “K”(shudders of dismay may be inserted here), Mr. Q. came to the right place, and was made much of by the right host. Indeed, we are told that you liked Mr. Q. so much that you have invited him to return, any time he feels like it.
Ken, Redken, Mr. Livingstone, Lord Mayor of London, turn again, like Dick Whittington, if you possibly can. There may still be time. Think of those sculptures and those paintings. Do you really want Qaradawi and his ilk to have their way? . Think of the freedoms built upon, and enjoyed, by those who now live in Old Londinium. Think of Bracton. Think of Coke. Think of Locke. Think of of John Stuart Mill. Think of Harry Lauder, and Al Bowlly and Jack Buchanan and Elsie Randolph. Think of Vera Lynn. Think of Sigmund Freud, and Lucien Freud, and Emma Freud, and any damn Freud who comes to mind. Think of Peter Sellers. Think of Frank Muir. Think of the Goon Show. Think of My Word, and all the gentle people who listen to My Word. Think of Alastair Sim and Alec Guinness. Think of The Bells of St. Trinian’s. Think of Wee Geordie. Think of 23 Laburnum Grove. Think of Dennis Potter -- think of Pennies From Heaven, and The Singing Detective, and Lipstick on Your Collar. Think of Keats on Hampstead Heath. Think, Ken, even of those buying bespoke at a tailor's on Jermyn Street, or the Burlington Arcade. Think about what London means, or should mean, to you, and think about the London that would exist if the likes of Sheikh Al-Qaradawi, and his followers, now well-ensconced, were to have their way – in London, in England, in Europe, all over the world. Forget about what you think about Bush, or what you think you should think of him. Think about what Q.-q. Q., if he had half a chance, would do to everyone and everything in free-spirited, silly, often deplorable, sometimes lovable London, over which you preside.
Forget about contriving always to act so as to annoy the Americans, the London Board of Rabbis, the leader-writers on The Telegraph. Try to have some gratitude to the Great Dead who created the civilization of which you and those who live in London are inheritors. Not one of those Great Dead (of England, of Europe, of the Western world)would have lasted a minute under Islam, under the likes of Al-Qaradawi and his grim little world of the shari’a, his Total Regulation, his manichaen assignment of everything to one or the other column: Haram over there, Halal over here. You owe those Great Dead of the Western world something. You owe Q-q. Q. nothing.
Please, Ken, please Mr. Livingstone, please Mr. Lord Mayor, like Dick Whittington, turn again, even if that means you will have to turn against every cliché and received idea in the seemingly-immutable bolshevist banality of your mental universe. Get With the Program. And that program, if you need a hint, is not “Friends” but, rather, “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Postscript: After a terrorist attack by Muslims, for Muslim causes, prompted by the teachings of Islam that are to be found in Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira, Ken Livingstone yet again decided to welcome Sheikh Quradawi to London. He, Redken, was not in the slightest apologetic about this. The trip was cancelled, at the last minute, but not because of Ken Livingstone.
He proceeded to tell us that there is a moral equivalence between Hamas, a group of terrorists who shoot their weapons and scream with hystiercla joy, whenever news of some great "victory" -- say, the shooting a pregnant women in her car, and the murder, one by one by one by one, of her four little girls -- just par for the Hamas course, and the Likud, a political party that has the temerity to suggest that Israel has a considerable legal (the League of Nations' Mandate for Palestine), historical (the buying of land, steadily, from both the Turkish authorities and absentee landlords, and the inheriting of the nearly 90% of the land that was owned by the Ottoman state, then by the Palestine Mandatory authority, and then by its rightful and intended successor, the State of Israel), and moral (about this, if Ken Livingstone knows nothing of the history of the Jews, nor of the Muslim conquerors, nor of what happened to those Jews who remained, as dhimmis, under Muslim Arab rule, or who left to live in Europe, then he knows nothing).
So he did not turn again, like Dick Whittington. Not worth a whisker on Dick Whittington's cat, is Redken, now the mayor of the largest city in still-as-yet-incompletely-islamized Europe. But he is a portent of things to come. And how he is regarded by people in London, in England, in Europe, will tell us much about the willingness of the Infidels not to "stay the course" of appeasement and dhimmitude, but to change the course, to recover their senses, to become quick studies when it comes to Islam, and to rescue themselves, their children, and the cultural and civlizational legacy that their ancestors left them with -- and so far too many have proven to be complete ingrates.
Some gratitude please. Some common sense. Some sense of self-preservation. A modicum will do.
Given that the Palestinians don't have jet planes, don't have tanks, they only have their bodies to use as weapons," Livingstone told Sky News in an interview.
Is this guy just a dhimmi or is he a muslim? What a liar that guy is, the Palestinians have something like fourty or fifty thousand armed men in some kind of army. They have all kinds of armed terrorists running around and martyr brigades all over the place. They also have been reported to be smuggling in heavy weaponry(missiles from Egypt), and who knows what through tunnels. And recently arch enemies Bush/Blair/G8, gave them billions of dollars to pump things up. What Livingston sould do is read the Palestinian National Charter, and explain to the public what that means, and how it helped shape his opinion...
All of you Londoners...and Europeans for that matter had better dust off your flack jackets and gas masks...and hope you aren't too close to the next bombs when they go off. ;) Good Luck!
