SPORTING black turbans or skull caps, the young men squat on a carpet in a crowded classroom and listen in silence to a lecture given by a thickly bearded, middle-aged cleric.The students are at the final stage of their religious education at Darul Uloom Haqqania, one of Pakistan’s leading institutions of Islamic learning. Situated in the town of Akora Khatak, near Peshawar, the radical seminary is often described as the “University of Jihad”.
At least two of the London suicide bombers attended such a school.
The seminary, which was established in 1947, has been the cradle of the Taleban militia that ruled Afghanistan for more than five years before being ousted by the American-led coalition forces in 2001. Many of the Taleban leaders had graduated from the school.
The seminary has also been a recruiting centre for militant Pakistani groups fighting Indian forces in the disputed region of Kashmir. Many of its 2,500 students come from Afghanistan. But the number of foreign students has fallen after government pressure.
“The bomb attacks in London are the reaction against the British Government’s support for America’s war against Muslims,” said Maulana Samiul Haq, a fiery, black-turbaned cleric who is head of the seminary. He is also an MP in Pakistan. “The loss of innocent lives is regrettable, but the British Government should think why it all happened. It is time to review its policy on Iraq and Afghanistan.”
The school teaches the concept of jihad to prepare students to fight for the cause of Islam. “Jihad is an essential part of Islam,” said Mr Haq.
I would like to know how Sir Iqbal Sacranie would persuade Mr. Haq, on Islamic grounds, that his view of jihad is erroneous.

This article refers to the London terrorists as "suicide bombers". We must change our description, they may commit suicide in the process of terrorizing others, but they are not suicide bombers.
The definition of suicide is (Webster's):
1 a : the act or an instance of taking one's own life voluntarily and intentionally especially by a person of years of discretion and of sound mind.
I don't see that taking of other's lives is suicide........it is homicide.
We must all change our terminology to "homicide bombers". This is not semantics, it describes more accurately the intent of these individuals. If the blogosphere uses "homicide" instead of "suicide" the MSM will eventually have to deal with it!

Anyone familiar enough with Japanese to be able to explain exactly what kamakaze means? My suspicion is that although it was the name given to Japanese flyers on WWII missions that required them to crash their planes, guaranteeing their own death, that it probably bears some honorable connotation, just as shahada does to the Muslims.

Kamikaze means 'divine wind' in Japanese. Kami means "god" and kaze means "wind". It refers to a typhoon which saved Japan from an invading Mongol fleet in 1281. It was used again in WWII for the wave of Japanese suicide fighter planes in a final hope that it will again save Japan.
kamikaze "pilots" were not majority of Japanese military pilots
only small amount - towards end of war-and to conserve the main/better pilots and aircrafts - they were not a large portion of the airwar, nor effective very often
USS Missouri (battle ship) with armoured sides had one "direct hit" by kamikaze
- the aircraft made only a very small dent (about 7 inches long by 3 inches wide -did not penetrate into ship) in the side and spilling its ignited fuel onto wood decks caused only minor damage to the ship.
the ship's captain (United States Navy) gave kamikaze pilot full military honor funeral next day - to great displeasure of his crew (all is chronicled and with many photographs -including last face look of kamikaze pilot's before his crashdeath into ship side)
the kamikaze were "dregs of society" - such as prisoners, mentally unstable, criminals (so - yes like jihadi homicide bombers)
the planes they flew were - the bottom of the heap - barely flyable -left overs

I disagree. I think suicide bomber is correct. Homicide bomber implies the act's results while suicide indicates the religious driven motive and the resulting results for that person who delivered the bomb. We all know they murdered. 'Suicide' always remind me of the intensity of the enemy Islam so I will never forget.

The Japanese 'kamikazi' "pilots" were considered "cherry blossoms"... lovely sacrifices to indifferent and ephemeral 'nature', and to the fatalistic world-view that was cultivated in Imperialistic, Bushido-warped Japan.
They all 'belonged' to the Emperor, and so were supposed to be 'happy' to die at his whim. It was similar to the 'honor'-killing mentality in the Islamic world where murdering your sister for wearing a mini-skirt or listening to a 'lustful pop song' brings 'glory' to the clan.
In WW II Japan, throwing your child into the meat-grinder of the Imperialistic State was a way to gain status. And it was an 'honor', as a young man, to be chosen to die for the nation. Your family mourned, but was also supposed to be thrilled that their child was picked to be turned into Mitsubishu Zero hamburger for the ancestor cult.
