A surprisingly informative piece in the Christian Science Monitor (thanks to Skeetstreet) updates this March 2004 BBC article and explores how preachers of Islamic jihad use Islamic religious language to recruit people like the recent London bombers. Still no explanation from Iqbal Sacranie or anyone else about how to combat this sort of thing.
GREENWICH, ENGLAND - Outside a small, red-brick mosque, a young Muslim in sneakers and a white robe is lecturing a cluster of young men gathered on the sidewalk."The London bombings ... were about striking terror into the heart of the enemy," he thunders, just one week after the 7/7 attacks that killed 56 people and wounded hundreds more.
The Monitor doesn't mention, and probably doesn't know, that this is a reference to the Qur'an: "Against them make ready your strength to the utmost of your power, including steeds of war, to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies, of Allah and your enemies..." (8:60).
Muslims around the world are being slaughtered, he tells them. "All we ask them is: 'Remove your troops from Muslim lands and we will stop all of this.' " The men nod in agreement. One glances into the baby stroller he's pushing. Car after car races past.
And yet troops were not in Muslim lands when this round of the conflict started, on 9/11. This is yet another example of how the pretexts for the conflict always change, while the jihad remains constant.
The preacher, who calls himself Abu Osama ("Father of Osama"), is one of a new breed of British radicals thriving at the margins of London's Muslim community.Young, independent, and streetwise, they are preaching in urban slang outside the confines of Britain's mosques. They are helping teens and 20-somethings beat drugs and alcohol. And they are inspiring a new pool of impressionable young Muslims to consider killing their fellow Britons.
These radical bands constitute a small fraction of London's 1 million Muslims. But their freewheeling ideology - hardened in the jihadi echo chambers of cliques like Abu Osama's - is creating a new subculture within Britain's Islamic community. So far, the growing influence of these informal, maverick groups has gone largely undetected - and unchecked.
As older, camera-courting, foreign-born extremists like Omar Bakri and Abu Hamza al-Masri recede from relevance, their younger counterparts are striking out quietly and independently with a new brand of do-it-yourself radicalism.
"On the ground level, people like Bakri don't communicate with the youth," says Nadim Shehadi, an analyst at Chatham House, a think tank in London. The fragmentation of British radical groups and their dispersal underground, he adds, is the "worst of all possible options."
"When the Muslim Council of Britain [MCB] said 'We must be vigilant,' this pushed [radical groups] underground," says Abdul-Rehman Malik, contributing editor at the Muslim magazine Q-News, based London. As radicals fled to minor mosques and homes, Britain's security services, and even mainstream Muslims, lost track of them.
Did the 7/7 bombers come from Bakri's circle? "Probably not - it's something far more insidious," says Mr. Malik. "It's beyond the Omar Bakris; it's a low rumble."
Yearning for jihad
Abu Osama, just 30, was born and raised here in East London, amid peeling paint and dingy kebab shops. "I know English. I know Britain. But if I live here, I must speak for Muslims elsewhere," he says, stressing that he belongs first to the ummah, or global Islamic community.
Note that he doesn't say "But if I live here, I must abide by the laws of Britain and accept the parameters of British society." Instead, his primary allegiance is to the umma.
Abu Osama's faith deepened early. Watching his Pakistani immigrant father struggle to support his family of seven, he sought strength in Islam."I began praying and studying when I was 16, and since then I've been like this," he says, pointing to his long, curling beard.
Abu Osama first spoke publicly eight years ago; he has since won ardent followers.
Last fall, addressing a meeting of scores of British radicals, he sighed: "At the moment in Britain there is no jihad." Faces fell around the hall.
"Yet!" he exclaimed suddenly, to approving murmurs. The jihad would soon come, Abu Osama predicted, and he urged his listeners to embrace its arrival.
On 7/7, the jihad came. The suicide bombers were aged 18 to 30 - the same age as Abu Osama's cohorts. By portraying militancy as the ultimate expression of piety, Abu Osama and preachers like him are leading young Muslims down the path toward violence.
"Some of the people tell you Islam is a religion of peace because they think that then you'll want to convert," says Dublin-born convert Khalid Kelly, who soaks up Abu Osama's sidewalk sermon. "But you cannot possibly say Islam is a religion of peace; jihad is not an internal struggle."
Thank you for speaking the truth, Mr. Kelly. When non-Muslims say that they are tarred and vilified by Muslims and non-Muslims alike. But no one can possibly call you an "Islamophobe." What, I wonder, would Iqbal Sacranie say to convince you that you are wrong -- if anything?
Armed struggle was the last thing on Mr. Kelly's mind until his conversion several years ago. "I was your average Irish drunkard, partying and so on," he says. Arrested in Saudi Arabia, where he worked as a nurse, for brewing his own alcohol, Kelly found Islam in prison - an increasingly common arena for Muslim conversion and radicalization.After his return to Britain in 2002, Kelly quickly became a disciple of Bakri, a radical Syrian-born cleric based in Britain, who is most widely known for celebrating 9/11, and more recently, blaming 7/7 on British foreign policy. Through Bakri's circle, which is now largely underground, Kelly met Abu Osama. Now, they gravitate toward obscure mosques that nurture homegrown extremists.
"The imam here" - Kelly nods at the mosque - "said, 'Pray for the victory of the mujahideen in all the world.' He's talking about Osama bin Laden, but he can't say that."

unfortunately, at least in Vietnam, if you came face to face with a face in one of those tunnels,
you were pretty sure which side of the goodguy/badguy equation that particular face fell on, plus the fact that the battleground was physically defined by the walls and length of the tunnel so you were pretty much able to focus your attention in a linear, and accurate direction.
the vietnam analogy brings to mind another thought. the battle for the "heart and minds" of the vietnamese population wasn't very successful in the final analysis. as the line goes, "he who ignores history is doomed to repeat it". so what say we stop wasting time, money, lives, and efforts on winning the "hearts and minds" and start concentrating on "kickin' ass and takin' names".

This Khalid Kelly seems a bit like Pattie Hearst in that he has identified with his oppressors.
Maybe also Islam is a new vehicle to express a hatred for and desire to destroy Britain that may have been there all the time.
Abu Osama et al are committed and resolved to restore the Caliphate. The more committed and resolved group will win. We must be committed and resolved to eliminate this threat or we will end up swallowed in the maw of Islam as have been countless millions over the centuries. Period.
Doesn't look like muslims can be a viable participant of a free, secular society. Their ideology, and their mindset, is opposed to everything in western society:
They want a totalitarian Islamic mullahtocracy; we want a free democratic society.
They cannot tolerate values that are different from theirs -- they paint over our billboards because the pictures of women offend them, they want to kill gays, they react to criticism by killing people.
They should get out of this ideology, or go live in an Islamic country. A free, secular, democratic society is not where they are suited to be.

‘An Indian man was jailed in Bombay yesterday for plotting to fly passenger jets into the House of Commons and Tower Bridge in London on September 11, 2001.
‘Mohammed Afroze was sentenced to seven years after he admitted that he had a role in an al-Qaeda plot to attack London, the Rialto Towers building in Melbourne and the Indian Parliament. His lawyer has claimed, however, that the confession was “forcefully taken” and that Afroze was tortured by Indian police.
‘Afroze admitted that he and seven al-Qaeda operatives planned to hijack aircraft at Heathrow and fly them into the two London landmarks. The suicide squad included men from Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan, Afroze said. They booked seats on two Manchester-bound flights, but fled just before they were due to board.’
I did a double-take when I read this. One of the central claims by the appeasenik crowd is that Britain would never have been an al Qaeda target had it not joined the US in its war on terror, Afghanistan, Iraq etc. It was always obvious to anyone with eyes to see that Britain was always a target along with the rest of the free world. But the only reference to an actual plot against Britain on 9/11, as far as I am aware, was made in Rohan Gunaratna’s book Inside al Qaeda. Now, in a small story on page 12 of the Times, we are told that a man has been convicted of an al Qaeda conspiracy to hit Britain on 9/11. Shouldn’t this be a major story?"

A poll carried out for the Daily Telegraph has underscored the fact that a terrifying number of Muslims in Britain support terrorist attacks. The vast majority of British Muslims oppose them, but six per cent say they were ‘fully justified’. As the political analyst Professor Anthony King observes:
‘Six per cent may seem a small proportion but in absolute numbers it amounts to about 100,000 individuals who, if not prepared to carry out terrorist acts, are ready to support those who do. Moreover, the proportion of YouGov's respondents who, while not condoning the London attacks, have some sympathy with the feelings and motives of those who carried them out is considerably larger - 24 per cent. A substantial majority, 56 per cent, say that, whether or not they sympathise with the bombers, they can at least understand why some people might want to behave in this way.’
The survey also found that nearly one British Muslim in five feels little loyalty towards this country or none at all:
‘If these findings are accurate, and they probably are, well over 100,000 British Muslims feel no loyalty whatsoever towards this country… YouGov asked respondents how they feel about Western society and how, if at all, they feel Muslims should adapt to it. A majority, 56 per cent, believe "Western society may not be perfect but Muslims should live with it and not seek to bring it to an end".
'However, nearly a third of British Muslims, 32 per cent, are far more censorious, believing that "Western society is decadent and immoral and that Muslims should seek to bring it to an end". Among those who hold this view, almost all go on to say that Muslims should only seek to bring about change by non-violent means but one per cent, about 16,000 individuals, declare themselves willing, possibly even eager, to embrace violence.’
These findings are deeply alarming. Such numbers supporting terrorism and expressing hatred for this country and a desire to destroy it are simply insupportable. Britain has a major social and security crisis on its hands which it has yet to properly acknowledge, let alone confront.

Civil war in Iraq is looming. In fact, The New York Times says it is here. Although it was naive--if indeed it actually ever was believed in the highest circles of the Bush administration--to think that people raised on submission to theocracy ("Islam" = submission) could ever entertain a democratic, individualistic thought, could ever respect individual human life, could ever countenance the existence (let alone "right to exist") of any other creed than their seventh-century rabid demonology, perhaps there was some hidden logic to the American invasion insofar as it set up the checkerboard for a resumption of the Iran-Iraq War, this time played out within the country and hopefully with adjoining countries. A desperate Shiite Iraq that attacks Sunni Saudi Arabia in response to provocations from Saddam's epigones and the Sunni dross of Al Qaida's Murder, Inc. Perhaps an Iraq-Iran alliance against the Sunni world. The possibilities are endless. For the first time, there is actually a chance for Islam to implode on its own hatred. This is wonderful. Now America should gracefully leave these Babylonian mesopotami to their own mammalian wars of self-destruction and watch from the sidelines, maintaining a presence in the Gulf to watch it play out and supplying the non-Arab forces such as the Kurds (or any forces that threaten to go down so that the conflict can brew indefinitely and the Arab world can be bled dry). I agree. The U.S. went into Iraq to topple Saddam. It is quite extraordinary to hear the stupid Western press to report quagmire or loss or Vietnam. The U.S. and Britain won the war in the first thirty seconds. Sadaam was toppled. It would be nice if we could leave democracy behind. Obviously, the culture does not lend itself to civility.
I think we should declare victory that Sadaam has been toppled and leave. If it comes to blows between Shia and Sunni, by the beard of the Prophet and in prayer to Allah, they should both win.

It doesn't seem possible to erect a democratic country in an Islamic culture. The two are antithetical. Would be like trying to erect a bridge with a saboteur who blows up every pile as it goes in.
Call it what you will but does seem like a war of civilizations to me.
Liberal western values on the one hand strengthen the west by producing happiness, technology and works of art.
On the other hand, they weaken the west by facilitating a host of parasitric -isms : with multi-cultiralism foremost.
This process will continue until some new equilibrium is reached and the 2 warring sides are roughly equal in strength before the real murder begins. Or so says my theory. Probably the nice thing to say about liberal western values are that they seem to be "innately good" in of themselves and we all know that eventually the good side wins.
Don't forget about Iran. It will have to be dismantled within the next 2 years, one way or another. Mark my words.

A military garrison has been opened in Iran to recruit and train volunteers for “martyrdom-seeking operations”, according to the garrison’s commander, Mohammad-Reza Jaafari. Jaafari, a senior officer in the elite Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), told a hard-line weekly close to Iran’s ultra-conservative President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the new “Lovers of Martyrdom Garrison” (Gharargahe Asheghane Shahadat, in Persian) would recruit individuals willing to carry out suicide operations against Western targets. The weekly carried a report in its July 13 issue on a meeting between Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi and the commander of Lovers of Martyrdom Garrison. The French, whom the Americans love to hate, have taken a very hard line on Islamic fundamentalism for years. Since the mid nineties when their metro was bombed by Algerian exiles in their midst, they have stripped the French nationalities of clerics and deported them "far away from our territory" as their Interior Minister recently said. The most recent deportation was of an Algerian cleric who was telling the faithful at his mosque how to beat their women up without leaving any marks. He and his whole family were shipped out without any recourse to legal shenanigans as you might see in the UK. Sarkozy, Chirac's right hand man has promised "zero tolerance" on radical preachers. If you hit these people in the pocket hard - like boycotting their businesses and threatening deportation of the families of any of them who misbehave - you would see a big turn around in miscreants being weeded out by their communities, I betcha.
I have a friend who lives in Leeds,England and he lost a friend to racist Muslims, who beat him to death. He says that roving gangs of Muslim youth, mostly Pakistani, routinely gang rape British Girls,
mug and murder Brits, and honor killings are common, but covered up by the Dhimmi media.
Now this is where it gets strange. The British National Party, once considered neo NAZI and racist has attracted a lot of blacks, especially Jamaicans, who suffer the racist assaults (verbal and physical) from Muslims.

Sydney's Gang Rape Trial
Fourteenth century tribal savagery meets the modern world in Sydney: In the open: rapists’ campaign of vicious assaults. (Hat tip: SoCalJustice.)
They are probably the most violent, prolific gang rapists Sydney has known, with as many as 18 young victims. But until now the extent of the horrific crimes of four brothers from Pakistan has been kept secret.
Yesterday, more than three years after they went on a six-month rampage, luring girls as young as 13 to their home in Ashfield to rape them, suppression orders forbidding publication of their trial details were lifted.
They still cannot be named because two of the brothers were juveniles, aged 16 and 17, when they committed the first offences. But the crimes of the brothers MSK, MAK, MRK and MMK, and their friend RS, can now be made public.
The brothers, who came to Australia from Pakistan around 2000, had claimed in the face of damning DNA evidence that they were the victims of an anti-Muslim conspiracy. The eldest brother feigned mental illness, they sacked numerous lawyers and aborted trials to ensure delays as they tried to wear down the victims who had agreed to testify.
Yesterday the Director of Public Prosecutions, Nicholas Cowdery, QC, said the brothers took the rules that ensure a fair trial “to their limits” and they “may need to be re-examined to assess whether they are appropriate”.
“People from time to time test the operation of these rules. Some people call it game-playing, but if the rules are there to be tested and used, that is a legitimate part of the process,” Mr Cowdery said.
The rapes of at least eight girls took place mostly in the brothers’ Ashfield home between January and July 2002. The girls were invited to a “party”, but would arrive at the house, which was strewn with rubbish and plastered with posters of semi-naked girls, to find no other females there.
Some victims were repeatedly raped at knifepoint and told they would be killed if they went to police. The brothers videotaped their rapes, and the tapes show another dozen possible victims. The police have not been able to find them all and some did not want to come forward.
The victims who did make complaints breathed a sigh of relief on Monday, when the oldest brother, MSK, pleaded guilty to the aggravated sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl in July 2002. That spared the victim from having to give evidence and brought the series of trials to an end.
The brutality of the crime, the last to go to trial, was typical. Before raping the girl, MSK told her he had strangled a girlfriend and hung her from a balcony in Iraq - though he was from Pakistan.
This article does not mention that the Sydney rapists had a disquietingly large amount of support from the Australian Muslim community.
I can't believe those young men are still alive. Red, yellow, black, white or Arab, if my daughter were raped by somebody, I doubt they would live long enough to see a trial. Rifles reach out and touch somebody from quite a distance. After hearing that they used their normal *your conspiring against our poor muslim's* story, I can only see a bunch of liberal, peace loving idiots getting together and rallying to let these poor, innocent, men of God go.
A conundrum:
If success is acheived in muzzling and marginalizing these most blatant Islamic hatemongers, I think we may be shooting ourselves in the foot. On the other hand, their continued presence allows Muslim apologists to paint these public radicals as being part of a 'fringe.'
Part of the difficulty in fighting this Islamic jihad against the West is the lack of recognition that these so-called "fringe" actors are simply spewing a more public version of the same hatred filled supremacist anti-western indoctrination that the so-called 'moderate' mosques are doing in relative secrecy... This, and the fact that our leadership has yet to admit that IT IS a religious war, and that Muslims HAVE BEEN and ARE NOW waging jihad in earnest against us prevents the vast public from recognizing the contours of the conflict.
Westerners are still buying into the lie that the Hamzas and Bakris aren't simply more colorful and public exemplars of larger Islam. It is a HUGE conundrum... What are some ideas about how to handle this??? Perhaps a broader mechanism similar to MEMRI.org which translates the Arabic media for Western consumption is necessary for domestic Mosques in America and Europe.
Germans were treated in November 2004 to a translation of a secretly recorded 'sermon' delivered by an Imam who had been periodically featured on TV as a 'moderate' -- This was after the murder of Theo Van Gogh --

There should be no doubt that Islam's chronic devaluation of 'non-believers' creates fertile ground for all the ensuing intolerance, terrorism, and fascism which follows... I also have little doubt that 'moderates' continue to hide (perhaps even from themselves) the connection between the deepest tenets of their intolerant hatred filled religion, and it's ineluctable link with terrorism...
I would bet the farm that hatemongering occurs in EVERY MOSQUE in EVERY COUNTRY... But without massive public exposure, the TRUE Muslim agenda remains hidden...

Aucklanders Rally for Tolerance
Meanwhile, New Zealanders held a rally for tolerance today: Rally for Tolerance in Auckland.
Muslims, Christians and Jews came from all over the region, but some thought the title Rally for Tolerance didn’t go far enough.
Reverend Bruce Keeley from the Council of Christians and Muslims believes if the aim is to create a decent society then there is a need for more than tolerance.
“We need to understand each other,” says Keeley.
The rally was in response to the vandalism of six Auckland mosques.
A representative of the Islamic Women’s Council gives us a new concept—a jihad against intolerance:
Labour list candidate Anjum Rahmun of the Islamic Women’s Council called for jihad against “those in our society who will use race and religion to divide us”.
And who better to express tolerance than a Muslim Member of Parliament who won’t condemn the stoning of gays?

Trust me when I tell you: one man/woman can make a difference in this war.
Truth matters. Delivering that truth matters more.
I intend to continue spreading the truth on a far greater scale than I have been able to do up until now. Very, very soon.
(And will also afford me plenty of opportunity to keep another eye on some of our nation's "special guests" on campus.)

I have to support Vikrant and repeat what I have posted here before. Many US readers look at the BNP website and do not feel alarm. It is very clever, anybody would be seduced by the home page photo of 3 beautiful small girls, fair hair, wearing cross of St George t-shirts, against a background of stirring heritage coastline. And they are the only party to speak the truth about Islam, and our potential fate as dhimmis. And their local task force projects have done some good. Becontree park in east London is improved (but the only way was up, judging from it's condition when I was last nearby). But that is all they have to offer. Every article refers only to "White" British. They gloss over their roots in the old National Front, the party that filled the gap left when the Jordan family who led the British Nazi party were imprisoned in the early 60s for arson attacks on Jewish property and assaults on West Indians and Maltese (yes, white Christian Europeans)

The BNP could be viable if they injected some sane leadership into their ranks and did away with the racism.

NO, Foehammer. The BNP already has the best leader they could possibly have, a smart, savvy, moderate-sounding Cambridge graduate. I am willing to bet that this smooth website that deceived Giaour (and I must say I could not believe the signature, at first) is his work. But you just have to see them at any English by-elections - they all look like gangland enforcers. They are thugs, pure and simple. And it is mainly because all Britons know perfectly well what they are, that they have not been able to profit even from a situation that would seem custom made for them. People still regard them as every bit as bad as the jihadis. And believe me, they are.
