LONDON: Security services have barred more than 200 foreign scientists from studying at British universities over the past four years, amid fears they could present a terrorist threat, a newspaper reported on Tuesday. The Guardian newspaper said the scientists were among more than 2,000 vetted after applying to universities to do postgraduate or post-doctoral research in fields such as chemistry, microbiology and biotechnology.
The figures were released to the Guardian under the Freedom of Information Act as police continue to search for those linked to the London terror bombings on July 7. The British authorities started taking greater security precautions in response to the September 11, 2001 terror attacks in the United States.
Universities have long been seen as attractive to potential terrorists because of the high level of scientific training on offer, the Guardian said. Institutions can refer potentially suspect applicants for security clearance via the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s voluntary vetting scheme, which was set up in 1994 to prevent foreign scientists learning skills on British soil that could be used to develop weapons of mass destruction...
I know this is completely OT for this posting
but I just received a E-mail from the protaganist
in Canada to Stop Sharia from being allowed in Canada's Court System by CAIR and Mohamed Elmasry from the CIC , since the Theo Van Gogh killer
was in the news for murdering a person for Allah because of the movie-short "Submission" it is
perfect timing to let Americans know that "Submission" will be screened next month
in Toronto along with the Muslim women from the Netherlands to join a Q & A session after the viewing.
The link below allows for ordering tickets
and I'm not sure if Submission has ran in the USA or would be allowed becuase of the bomb threats and death threats that I expect from the Whahabbi Mosques in America.
For those Americans that live near Rochester
N.Y. on the American side of Lake Ontario, the express Ferry is back in business and runs from Toronto to Rochester and back several times a day on its 2 Hour trip.
The Hydrajet pontoon "Breeze" costs about 40 dollar each way for persons without a vehicle, there's 2 cinema's , gift shop, lounge , and is said to be a very smooth ride. The trip around the Lake by car is about 5 hours and forces you to wait at Border crossings by Custom agents, Canada and the USA have Custom services at the docking areas and basic ID should do the trick if you keep proof that you came to Canada on the ferry.
The Toronto Dock area is close to Union Station
where the Subway loops up to Bloor and the Bedford
Streets where the event will be held.
You don't need a car once in Torontos harbour, if this film is what you wanted to see since it
drove a Muslim to murder Theo Van Gogh , this is a great chance to meet Theo's friend and also hear Irshad manji talk about her book "The trouble with Islam".

This is very important. I still remember sitting in a London metro, looking over the tags on the luggage of someone who had clearly just flown in. Baghad, Iraq was all over the three suitcases. I cannot remember where he was headed, but there was a "Department of Physics" listed, or it may even have been something more specific. I only remember, back in 1980 or so, thinking -- are they crazy? Haven't they any sense?
A. Q. Khan studied in Holland, and stole nuclear secrets in Holland, and even made contacts in Holland with Western supplirs (I can't remember if they were German or Dutch) of certain instruments who later turned out to be most useful.
It is madness to train any Muslims in these fields. This includes Muslims from dar al-Islam, and Muslims from within dar al-Harb. In the same way, it is madness to train any Muslims to fly planes. Will some innocents suffer as a result? Of course. But I would rather the innocent Muslims (and one does not know what that really menas) suffer, than that innocent Infidels suffer, as they have in the past, as they will no doubt in the future, from their complete inability to distinguish the true "moderate" from the feigning one, and the permanently true "moderate" from the one who may change in his outlook, his attitude, the depthof his belief and how that is reflected in his behavior.
If we had some machine for ending, once and for all, all doubts, then we could use it. But we are dealing with large numbers of people, a great many of whom seem completely at ease with deceptive behavior and presentation of self. Just today, at this website, we learned that the uncle of one of the London bombers had completely reversed his former seeming shock and outrage and puzzlement (the right emotions, he no doubt felt, to show just after the bombing, while he and other Muslims were still unsure if the Infidels would behave as, in the same situation, Muslims would certainly have behaved -- that is, with riots and mass pogroms in the streets. When that didn't happen, and some time had pased, he felt it safe to reveal his true feelings). The same, we learned, was true of Mohammad Atta's father, who has dropped the mask he once put on, just after the 9/11 attacks, to insist that he was horrified, he could not believe it, etc. -- now he is proud of his son, and delighted with the London attacks as well. We have had so many examples of this, from the backtracking or deliberate double-talk (one way to an Infidel audience, another way on audiocasettes for fellow Muslims) from Tariq Ramadan to Al-Qaradawi. We have had imam after imam caught on tape saying on thing, and quite another to Infidels at some interfaith gathering (perhaps someone should really compile a complete list).
Well, that being the case, we have to assume the worst. After all, when the Mad Cow disease is found in a single cow, millions or tens of millions of cows are completely quarantined, and many are slaughtered. If we knew that 1 out of every 10 visitors, say, from Hong Kong was a sure carrier of Avian Flue, would we not ban all visitors from Hong Kong? Yet we have reason to believe, writes one student of the matter, that 10 to 15% of Muslims, at a minimum, support Bin Laden and Al Qaeda; others believe he has the figures reversed, and that 85-90% would do so -- and those people are ex-Muslims like Ali Sina.
Even if we choose not to believe the "defectors from Islam" who show a full understanding of Muslim psychology that few Infidels can possibly attain, if even 1 out of 10, or one out of 1 hundred, Muslims is a "carrier" of terrorism (and how many would support him, feed him, lie for him, work against security measures designed to prevent his attacks?), then surely all Muslims wishing to come to the West should be prevented from doing so.
Starting with those who wish to study Western science is a good first step. But the tiniest of of first steps -- baby steps. And we want to see, not those baby steps, but a policy of constraining Islam and the ability of its adherents to do us, and our civilization, harm -- a policy that doesn't take baby steps, but walks or rather strides deterinedly along, and that will not allow itself to be slowed down, but keeps gaining speed, and cannot be knocked aside, on its own path so very different from that "path of Allah" that too many people seem determined to take in order to act out the farrago of aggressive fantasies that makes up so much of Islam.
Couldn't agree more Hugh.
ala-sux: Thanks for the info on the film night. Since I live in the Toronto area I'll try and go. This link doesn't seem to be working right now, but I'll keep trying. I read that the killer said to Van Gogh's mother in court, "I don't feel your pain." He is completely heartless. Our attendance at this showing would be a positive act in Van Gogh's memory and also a statement that we will not be intimidated. Plus, I'd really like to see this film.
It looks like, from the numbers, the Brits missed about 1,800 others.
These student-hopefuls should be allowed to stay in their own countries and civilize their own people and build their own universities.
Nothing more advanced from the West than proctology kits. Millions of them.
Maybe they'll get the hint.
UK bars over 200 foreign scientists... This is the result of a 1994 law.
I'd say about 40 years late, and 1-2 million short... The gin is out of the bottle, and the havoc has only just begun -- It is a complete fantasy to imagine that we have not already given our most ardent enemies the means for our annihilation... I don't wish to sound too pessimistic, but this is going to boil down to US vs THEM before it's over, and the boiling down has begun...
Sadly, our ethics may require that we wait for them to make the first truly mega-attack againts our citizenry -- I hope it won't be hard then to convince our leadership and our citizenry that true mass destruction of the enemy MUST follow... On that I am optimistic...
"I read that the killer said to Van Gogh's mother in court, "I don't feel your pain."
Jen,
The full quote is:
"I cannot feel for you ... because I believe you are an infidel,"
'Infidel' is what Islam calls non-muslims. Islam teaches that non-muslims are "without sanctity", so their "blood, possessions, and land" are free for the muslim to take.
I used to be perplexed with how the muslim terrorists first becomes more 'pious', more observant of the religion, that's what their family and friends always say; then these 'pious' muslims go out and bomb civilians into thousands of body parts. How do you connect 'pious' with murdering innocent people?
Now we know. The more pious they are, the more observant of Islam they became. And Islam says non-muslims are "without sanctity", that it is licit for a muslim to pillage or murder them, in short, "blow them up all you want; you are sanctioned".
Here's the link in case I copied it incorrectly.

Knowing how the British are, these 200 scientists are probably Israelis.
Back in the 60s and 70s, no Arabs and other muslims were allowed to study in various scientific disciplines. At that time we were ar 'war' with the Soviets. Since we are at 'war' or should be, with islam, why wasn't this policy maintained by those who were entrusted with the upkeep of our civilisation.
During the Soviet struggle (something the left have never forgiven our civilisation for winning) the Soviets resorted to liquidating UK scientists. They understood just how important they were in the struggle and eliminating some would weaken us, just as not creating 'muslim scientists' (more like technicians really, not thinkers) would weaken islam, hence the jihad.
This is one of the greatest betrayals.
Why is it ever in our interest to allow other civilisations to catch up and risk overtaking us?
Surely the role of our guardians is to protect our civilisation and ensure that we have a lead over others (and before anyone bleats on about Marshall plans benefiting us through a larger global economy, the MP was soley to prevent the spread of Communism)?
If the Arabs get our money from oil, surely it's in our benefit to ensure that it is we who 'get' some it back by selling expertise (but not teaching it)?
On the last point, it isn't even to our benefit that we educate say Angolians, they then would be competing with us to provide services.
So why did this change, 25 - 30 years ago?
