Today's Al-Arian Florida jihad update comes to you from the Tampa Tribune (thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist):
TAMPA - For the first time since Sami Al-Arian's trial started two months ago, prosecutors presented direct evidence Monday that Al-Arian tried to raise money for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad after it was illegal to do so.Jurors were read a Feb. 10, 1995, letter Al-Arian wrote to Kuwaiti legislator Isma'il al- Shatti. The letter was seized from Al-Arian's house during a search in November 1995.
It was written 18 days after a double suicide bombing in Beit Lid, Israel, that killed 22 people, including 20 Israeli soldiers. The letter was dated 16 days after President Clinton designated the Islamic Jihad a foreign terrorist organization, making it illegal to provide it material support.
``The latest operation, carried out by the two mujahideen who were martyred for the sake of God, is the best guide and witness to what the believing few can do in the face of Arab and Islamic collapse at the heels of the Zionist enemy and in keeping the flame of faith, steadfastness and defiance glowing,'' the letter states, according to a government translation consented to by the defense.
After the letter was read, Al- Arian's attorney, William Moffitt, moved for a mistrial, arguing there was no proof the letter was sent or received. Moffitt said the government interviewed al-Shatti, who did not remember seeing the letter.
Oh, he doesn't remember seeing it. Well, that makes it ok.
when will the west realize that the islamic spew is just as much a weapon as bombs. it is codified and sanctioned in the Quran, dozens of times. Lying is commanded, rewarded, praised, and encouraged.
if the police stopped a guy with a backpack full of fertilizer and diesel fuel, and he told them he was going home to fill his tractor and do some gardening, would they apologize to him and send him on his way? of course not. so why does every deception, diversion, and quite honestly, rather poor bald-faced lie get sucked up by people who should know better? wishful thinking? fear? ignorance? all of the above?
if the west goes down, it will be "not with a bang, but a whimper".
I have a suspicion that the reason Bush and Blair won't call Islam itself the root source of terror that it is, because if they did, they'd irritate all Muslims, and we'd have a much larger problem to deal with. Considering how poorly they are dealing with the lesser problem of "extremists", maybe it is good we aren't trying to fight every Muslim alive.
From what I'm seeing regarding taking such extremists to court, it seems to work more in favor of our enemies by making marytrs out of criminals. If we wanted to really scare extremist Muslims and their followers, we need to make the most vocal quietly dissapear. It's a lot harder to support someone whose whereabouts are unknown, and whose activities can't be video taped for recruitment videos.
The reason Bush won't name Islam as the problem is that he doesn't believe that.
Too bad Al Arian can't get the death penalty. I think we need to have a separate court system with restrictions and control like military courts, for terrorism trials. Mainlining terrorists in the regular court system is costly and inefficient.
Why should we as free citizens have to tiptoe around Muslims? Who cares if we make them mad...they are always mad about something anyway..this will just be another excuse for them to scream and riot and kill.
You cant tell the world to make nice with the enemy...especially when they blow you up no matter how you act.
