Australia: MP backs headscarf ban

Why may only Muslims assert their cultural integrity and identity? Australian MP Bronwyn Bishop comes out for Australian culture. "Bishop backs school headscarf ban," from The Australian, with thanks to Voltaire:

LIBERAL MP Bronwyn Bishop has backed a push to ban Muslim girls wearing headscarves to school.

Speaking in support of her like-minded colleague Victorian Liberal MP Sophie Panopoulos, Ms Bishop yesterday warned it was time to debate the issue.

"When you have a clash of cultures, the dominant culture is the one that you follow and that's ours," she told the Nine Network's A Current Affair.

"That's the one that makes us free, and I'll fight for it."

So will I.

And I just sent an e-mail to Bronwyn voicing my support.

Also for Ms Sophie Panopoulos who is very vocal on this.

Howard doesn't get it yet.

But Costello will do him nicely. It's just a mater of time...

I, too, have sent her an email of support.

Absolutely right!

You're HERE, not THERE, end of discussion.

Iron Lady, eh?

That line about the "dominant culture is the one that you follow" is the most direct anti-multiculti thing I've heard from a mainstream Australian politician in a long time. (Even better than Howard's calling it "aimless" and "divisive".)

"When in Rome, you do as the Romans do". There are some things the Romans were doing that you might not want to participate in. So if your not interested in the Roman baths, or tossing christians to lions, it may be best not to go to Rome.
The message is 'conform or get out', since we know that Islam is not going to conform, there are only two choices left, 'get out', or 'take over'. We can see from the rhetoric and jihadic actions which choice they have made. It's understandable from their view to take this path.
But their path, that of Islam, is harmful. It advocates harm, it practices harm in its own ummah, and it projects its harm outside its group, and harms others...non muslims. There is no escaping Islam as the 'religion of harm'.
Islam wants the entire planet to become Islamic,. In order to do that, all resistance has to stop. 'Harm' must be applied to end resistance,(dhimmitude). And harm must be continuously applied to keep the dhimmi population docile and humbled before their dhimmi masters. Islam is so weak that it requires a sixth pillar to hold it up, the pillar of 'harm and its sister 'threat'. Without those Islam would fall, a crumbling house of cards built on a foundation of shifting sand.
The sooner the public, especially officials and those in power, realise that Islam is a religion of harm, the better. Acceptance of Islam is worse than just accepting slavery (Abdallah), it also means harm, and the potential for harm.
Islam is hard to defeat due to the irrational fanaticism involed...sort of like 'you cant beat city hall'. Maybe not, if your too intimidated, but otherwise you can break windows and by consistant and determined effort bring the structure down. Banning headscarves is a method of breaking Islamic windows. There are more windows to be broken the structure needs to fall...the truth is the best kind of rock to do that with, bulldozers of truth may be next...May the truth be with you...

Howard is past his use- by -date!

Terminator,

"Howard doesn't get it yet."

That was truer a few weeks ago than today, I suspect.

Note that the VERY informative Baku article you referenced is now almost a month old.

Mr. Costello made his noteworthy, necessary, and memorable comments a week ago
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,16367866%255E1702,00.html

Irshad Manji sent Mr. Howard a pretty straightforward letter, via the press, a week ago.
http://www.theaustralian.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5744,16345675%5E7583,00.html

And the PM, himself, has recently begun to grow a solid spine.

So, I think that he’s pretty close to ‘getting it’.

P.S. The Baku article should be emailed to EVERY Muslim apologist, be they a politician, a journalist, or simply the private citizen of any country. Such apologists need to know that Baku and his ilk are intimately more familiar with Islam than most of them are.

Oops. Fat finger.

Bakr.

duh_swami, i agree with you. islam can be opposed by refusing to allow all of the legalistic rules of islamic society with which islam gets it's foot in the door in order to start exerting leverage on societies to tow the muslim line. free societies should not tolerate these islamic customs which, perhaps by design, infringe upon the security of free states. for instance, muslim women refusing to be photographed for drivers licences without their veil endangers the security of a free state. three cheers for australia standing up to the guilt trips of islam by which islam seeks to gain dominance via condemnation and demands. islam loves to demand this and that in the name of it's satanic god, allah.
let's bring islam down piece by piece by denying islam it's control freak customs over muslims. compliance with islam equates to denial of freedom. the apostle paul said, do not let anyone (islam) put you again under a yoke of legalistic bondage.
also, paul said the ministration of the old covenant law (islam) is the ministry of condemnation and death. the funny thing is, muslims think they are pleasing god by bowing down 5 times per day and all the other hoops that muslims jump through to keep allah pacified. the truth is that jesus christ already took away the sins of the world, except for unbelief in jesus christ.
so muslims, chill out already. your sins were taken away at christ's cross 2005 years ago. all you have to do now is accept christ's life living in you. there is no more performance you can do to please god because jesus already did it all. that is the error of islam.

Australia keeps making pleasant surprises, one after another. The London bombings have apparently opened the eyes of the Australian leadership. It's time for Britain to start following their former dominion's example.

Muslims in Canada have back the idea of keeping religion and Stae separated , but CAIR and a few other Islamic Org.'s have pushed for Shriah law Courts in Canada , and have already brought the Quran and Islam into the Public school classrooms
under the guise of "Anti-Racism and Islamophobia" workshops .

I even backtracked the the groups to CAIR and Mosques that produce the literature and dictate the version of the Quran to be portrayed to non-Muslims.
The Governments at all three levels are in on it because I saw the lines on the Budgets that listed the funds to support anti-racism and community safety education.

The headscarf is a overt display to promote a certain religion within the Public schools , and don't think for a moment that once a class or school has a majority of hijab wearers that Muslims won't demand that all female students wear one as to not offend the majority of Muslims.
Also in Canada I have read about groups of Muslims that want female-only teachers for the daughters and that they dress according to the Quranic definitions of modesty.

Cancer starts of slowly and consumes the healthy
parts of a body as to kill it from within to destroy the life-blood and spirit.

Sounds like Islam all right, destroy the West from within.

Sorry to disappoint you folks:

Just heard that Howard nipped it in the butt as "being unworkable and divisive"- foolish man!

As if headscarves, hijab, jilbab and bilbab (or burkha) are not 'divisive"...

So Howard nipped it, did he? Unworkable and divisive? Divisive maybe but not unworkable. We need more divisive issues like that, headscarves are just the begining, building permits for new mosques might be next. No permitee, no buildee. A really divisive move would be to redefine Islam as not a religion and deprive it of tax free income, in the US at least. There are divices we have not even though of yet. To be realized in the future and tossed like a monkey wrench into the gears of Islam. The more divisive the divice, the bigger the wrench...

I see more and more headscarves in my Canadian city. I wouldn't mind them if islam wasn't quickly squeezing us out of our own countries.

We've got to start making life under islam so uncomfortable here in the west that they either assimulate into our culture, leave our countries or get so fed up with the hardships that they start rebelling. One way or another we're gonna have to get rid of islam.

It likely isn't gonna be pretty, but it will eventually be necessary. I say better now than later.

Even though I find the veil offensive and should be banned, I think Howard was smart not to push this issue at this time. He's been doing a good job with letting Muslims know we're not too happy with them. They've stuck their feet in their mouths too many times lately, pushed us a bit too far, and many Australians are pretty disgusted with what they have been hearing. They're on probation. Some of our politicians have even come out and said 'you don't like our country and its ways, then clear off!'. This is exactly what needs to be happening.

To push the headscarf ban as well (which does not have as much support as demanding they shut up with the jihad and hating us nonsense) would make them look like poor victims, & would make us look unreasonable and intolerant, versus the other way around. We all know how they push this victimization, backlash sob story already. Most of us know they are full of crap about it, but a headscarf ban would give legitimacy to their "we're suffering a backlash" whining.
