Daniel Pipes writes in the New York Sun and his website about the growing anti-dhimmitude in Europe, the UK and Australia and asks, "where are the Americans?"
As the full implications of the London terrorist attacks by domestic jihadis sink in, Westerners are speaking out about the problem of radical Islam with new clarity and boldness. The most profound development is the sudden need of the British and others to define the meaning of their nationality. In the face of the Islamist challenge, historic identities once taken for granted must now be codified.
This can be seen on a diurnal level, where Islamist assertion has provoked a new European willingness in recent months to stand up for tradition – as seen by the banning of burqas in Italy, requiring a German school boy to attend co-ed swimming classes, and making male applicants for Irish citizenship renounce polygamy. When a ranking Belgian politician canceled lunch with an Iranian group after its members demanded that alcohol not be served, his spokesman explained, "You can't force the authorities of Belgium to drink water."
As shown by two statements on the same day last week, August 24, leading Western politicians are going beyond these minor specifics to address the civilization at the heart of the matter.
The British shadow education secretary and one of the Conservative Party's bright prospects, David Cameron, defined Britishness as "freedom under the rule of law," adding that this expression "explains almost everything you need to know about our country, our institutions, our history, our culture - even our economy." The treasurer of Australia, Peter Costello, who is regarded as heir apparent to Prime Minister Howard, said, "Australia expects its citizens to abide by core beliefs – democracy, the rule of law, the independent judiciary, independent liberty."...

I am one who has been calling for mass expulsions of Islamist Muslims since 2001...
I'd say the US is still doing better than the UK. Not only have we discovered that it's apparently impossible to remove Muslim terrorists and their supporters from the UK, but we're still importing more of them, like Tariq Ramadan.
These are ecouraging signs. However, we need to do better. A whole lot better! And so does America. We need to show these people that we are every bit as committed to our civilisation as they are to theirs.
At the moment, they are getting the idea that we are somehow lukewarm on our values. This notion is perceived by Muslims because we appear not to know what we stand for. Political correctness and multiculturalism have taken their toll.
Stand up and be counted! We are NOT going to allow this backward 'culture' to take hold here in the West. For if we do, we shall witness the dawning of a new dark age!

If only Bush would not be so spineless as to grant the Saudi Prince's request when he visits the Crawford Ranch that no female helicopter pilots be allowed to transport them hither and thither.
Perhaps for most of Joe Public, but not for our governments, more violence - we must try harder ram it home to the infidels.

"This can be seen on a diurnal level, where Islamist assertion has provoked a new European willingness."
-- from the article above
This is surely a strange way of saying "Daily, we see that Islamist assertion has..." or "Everyday we see that" or "We see everyday in Europe a new willingness to oppose Islamist assertion" or "Not a day goes by in which we do not see a new European willingness...."
The sun makes its diurnal round. Various birds and beasts of the field are diurnal, others nocturnal. But "what is seen on a diurnal level" disturbs.

I read this article elsewhere and I thought the same thing! Diurnal doesn't quite fit here, but who am I to criticize Daniel Pipes?! I thought "diurnal" was the opposite of "nocturnal" and referred to something that was active or occurred during daylight hours.
Yes, I've been encouraged by these words, said by our Australian politicians. It seemed like nobody was really 'getting it', post 9/11. It took the London bombings, and the fact that they were perpetrated by homegrown Muslims, versus foreigners like the 9/11 mass-murderers, to finally wake up our politicians to the menace of Islam. And since then, the media has done a good job of revealing some of the hateful things said by clerics and other Muslims in Australia. People have been writing letters to the editors and calling into radio talkshows and expressing their outrage and disgust.
However, the government is still labouring under the delusion that it's only a tiny minority, or that these ones are perverting a "great world religion". But one step at a time. I'd rather these small steps forward than have a govt like Canada's.
The beginning, long overdue, of some backbone in our leaders. We'll need a damn sight more.
As Mark suggested, much more is needed, or we invite 'them' to think we don't care that much about our values, achievements, hopes, our society, and can, thus, be beaten.
Must agree, there is little hope for leadership in Canada at the federal level, where there are three 'national' parties: 'far left, we deserve it all', 'center/left, butter wouldn't melt in our politically correct orifices, and center/right, we'll win the large muslim immigrant vote by opposing gay marriages and offering easier immigration, losers losers losers.
For the moment, i look at the aussies with envy, and it's not just for the weather and beaches.
No matter how much the governments of the West have already woken up, I'm afraid the so much needed mass deportations of extremist preachers and their supporters will never come unless there is another attack on a Western metropolis, akin to the London bombings. The influence of various Muslim lobby groups such as CAIR and MCB is still immense, and leftist apologists do all in their powers to amplify this influence even further.
Recently, instead of applying greater pressure to curb terrorism on the PA, the World's leading nations have pledged a $9B jizya to it. Then, just a few days ago, president Bush promised an additional jizya of $50M (American taxpayers should be shining with happiness), even after the PA has made clear its unwillingness to disarm the terrorists.
Unless this blatantly obvious financing of terror with our own money comes to an end, it is impossinble to talk about the Western world fully waking up to the Islamist threat, both at home and abroad.

New Labour is petrified, that the huge investment it made in bringing in hundreds of thousands of muslims into the country, and allowing them to live on Benefits, thus ensuring a muslim vote bank, is being jeopardised because of the committment to do "something" after 7/7. Hence the excuses, that there are no prison places etc etc.
The only person that has been excluded from Britain is Bakri, and he left of his own free will.
"Where are the Americans?" Hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans, have been shouting, "Get out! Get out!" for months. The press has ignored, downplayed, or called us cranks. Sooner or later the proverbial sh... will hit the fan and, out of necessity, action will finally be taken.
One Islamist I'd really like to see thrown out, and now, is that awful Sheikh Khalid Yasin. He's an American black convert, who is unfortunately here, in Australian on a visitor's visa. He's stated that he wants to move here and establish an Islamic TV station. He's hardcore. He's scary. Reminds me of Farakhan, but worse.
There was a TV forum with Muslims last night. Typical stuff about blaming Iraq and foreign policy, not us, Islam means peace, we're suffering terrible backlashes and no, we won't condemn Bin Laden. Waste of time. That Yasin was there, and I got the distinct impression that not even his fellow Muslims liked him. Probably because he's just too 'out there', too embarrassing. We've seen video of his speeches where he plainly states to Muslims they can't be friends with non-Muslims. They can be associates, not friends. And also how homosexuality and adultery warrants death. Funny how he can say these things, yet the two Pastors face jail for basically stating that Muslims say these things.
Anyway, Yasin - OUT! I have a bad feeling that somehow we'll get stuck with him. He's here on a tourist visa, but they have a way of getting around the rules. He's dangerous.
Not only does the UK not throw out those clerics but they invite the likes of Tariq Ramadam into Downing Street - someone who has been described by many commentators as on the "soft end of the Islamofascist spectrum."
DP111 - Bakri will be back (excuse the pun.) When the water's cleared a bit, I'm sure some lawyer will be pulling out his bag of tricks for him to be re-admitted - unlawful discrimination etc etc, human rights, the whole shebang - the honey-pot that provides these lawyers pension funds is too full not to be licked clean.
Get out, aaaaaaand stay out.
Most of what is called the "Left" plays a nefarious role in the struggle of jihadis against the Dar al-Harb, the rest of the world, or even in regard to a Muslim country like Iraq where mass murderers who have slaughtered thousands of fellow Muslims [and some native Iraqi Christians] since April 2003, are called by the too dignified name of "insurgents" by the Left, as well as by most of the mass media. These are mass murderers. Insurgent means rebels with some sort of coherent political program opposed to the current regime. How, though, can jihad and mass murder be made to seem banal, reasonable, human, deodorized as it were, by the label "insurgency"?
Now Dolphin referred to the billions given by various world powers to the "Palestinian Authority." Yet the European Union which has millions of its own poor, gives billions as mentioned. Where is the Left in Europe to speak up for using the billions of euros given to the PA for the European poor instead? After all, many of the Arabs in Ramallah, Sh'khem [Nablus], etc., have a higher standard of living than the European poor, in terms of bigger, more spacious houses, cheaper food, new cars, quite bourgeois home furnishings, the latest technological gimmicks, etc. [Living in Israel, I see many Arabs in the shopping malls buying quite nice home furnishings, housewares, clothing, etc. I also see the large, spacious homes many of them have.]. Meanwhile, in Italy where I was not long ago, it seemed that people were worse off there than only two years ago when I was there last. Likewise, France too seems shabbier recently --my wife who was there reports-- than ten/twelve years ago.
Maybe if the EU kept more money at home instead of throwing it at tyrants and murderers abroad, then the EU could help its own people more. The role of the EU Left is to totally disregard how many of their own folks at home are worse off economically than many people in the so-called "Third Word," supposedly eternally oppressed and exploited by the West.
Does anyone in the EuroLeft notice that there are immense riches (including stocks in Western corporations) in Saudi Arabian, Kuwaiti, Qatari, Abu Dhabian hands, etc.? Does any hardcore "working class militant" in Europe notice that there are millions of foreign workers in those and other Middle Eastern countries? No doubt those people come to work and earn a few dinars in the Middle East because they are so terribly poor where they come from --which at the least shows where the poverty is relatively worse. Maybe the Saudis, Kuwaitis, et al., are doing these workers a favor by letting them work in their countries and they are not suffering from "capitalist exploitation." But what about the humiliations many of them undergo in those countries because they are not Muslims? How come the Left as "champion of the workers" has nothing to say about that?
We aren't going to get much of anywhere with this in the US until the administration gets with the program. Islamic law has no place in The Land of The Free and Islamists need to have this expressed to them by the government, the people, and the press, in no uncertain terms.
One of the major problems we face here in the states is our great tolerance of others and other cultures. We think because something bears the label of "Religion" that it should automatically fall under the protection of our great Constitution. We hear "God" and remember the teachings of our dear grandmothers and grandfathers, and sweet old ladies talking about "The Love of God" on church lawns. The Islamic ideology that masquerades as a religion of peace does not deserve this protection. It has proven this time and time again.
We don't want anything to do with "Arab Culture" here in the states. It is primitive, backward, and morally reprehensible. We don’t want any variant on “Islamic Culture” either, for the exact same reasons.
Intolerance of Islam isn’t religious intolerance. It is intolerance of ignorance, hate, slavery, and violence.
All freedom loving people, be they religious or not, should unite against the bigotry, misogamy, and hatred that is ISLAM!
Mr. President, lead us. Start telling us the truth and address the true root of the problem.
f.g.
Eliyahu, the left has nothing to say about such people because the left does not exist in their countries. There is no voice for the populace. And islam prefers it that way.

Where is the Order Of The Dragon when you need it?
Whoever thought the "left" would be sucking up to people who force women into marriages against their wills, endorse female genital mutilation and generally only want women to be seen (completely covered) but not heard. There are a lot of Muslims in my area of London and there's invariably a man strutting ahead in his shirt sleeves as the weather's good right now with a woman dressed in the black duvet cover shuffling along about four paces behind.
A terrific letter in Pipes site by Walter
Are you an Islamist living in a country that no longer appreciates you and the values of Islam? A country that does not celebrate Jihad even though it was sanctioned by Allah and practiced by Muhammad (PBUH). A nation that does not recognize that you are Allah's chosen and that the rest of us are infidels, apes and pigs. Are people looking suspiciously at you, because your brothers are courageously committing suicide and taking the lives of worthless infidels with them?... If you are, then you need to consider the benefits of living in Canada.

LOL! That letter, quoted by DP111, is great. Funny, but in a sad sort of way. It's too bad about Canada. Lots of lovely people, but the government is so far gone to the dark side, it's a tragedy.
"where are the Americans?"
Yeah where the hell are we? Oh yeah ,desperately trying to keep them out of our own country.
