SCOTLAND YARD believes it has thwarted an Al-Qaeda gas attack aimed at ministers and MPs in parliament. The plot, hatched last year, is understood to have been discovered in coded e-mails on computers seized from terror suspects in Britain and Pakistan. Police and MI5 then identified an Al-Qaeda cell that had carried out extensive research and video-recorded reconnaissance missions in preparation for the attack.The encrypted e-mails are said to have been decoded with the help of an Al-Qaeda “supergrass”. By revealing the terrorists’ code he was also able to help MI5 and GCHQ, the government’s eavesdropping centre at Cheltenham, to crack several more plots.
The discovery of the suspected Commons nerve gas plot was behind the decision to increase security around parliament this summer.
A senior officer said that the scheme had led to the intervention of Eliza Manningham-Buller, head of MI5, to assess parliament’s security.
The operation to deter the sarin gas attack is referred to in an internal police document obtained by The Sunday Times.
It is a minute of a meeting of senior police officers held last month at Specialist Operations 17 (SO17), the unit responsible for protecting parliament, and reveals that the team were waiting to be briefed on the plot.
This weekend a senior officer disclosed that the thwarted plot mentioned in the document involved a gas or chemical “dirty bomb” attack against parliament. “The House of Commons was one of their targets as well as the Tube,” he said.
“They were planning to use chemicals, a dirty bomb and sarin gas. They looked at all sorts of ways of delivering it.”
But despite the successful police operation and upgraded security measures, senior officers are worried that security at the houses of parliament remains “unacceptable”.

Mr Blair is very passionate on the issue of the week. Two weeks ago it was getting rid of the Imams. Two weeks before that he was passionate about reforming the European Union.
It's just hot air. Mr Blair advice on Islam probably mainly comes from Sir Iqbal Sacranie and his laywer wife, whose main concern is setting islamic fanatics free.

I have visions of a surreal, absurd, Alice-in-Wonderland-style scene whereby with the Houses of Parliament smouldering in the background in the aftermath of a terrorist atrocity, Tony Blair is on camera still insisting that Islam is a peaceful religion and that its presence here is something wonderful that is enriching all our lives.
In the real world, one has to think that this is a high-risk target for al Qaeda. Imagine if they were successful, what then?
Would the British capitulate? Or would they perhaps restock parliament with a bunch of Winston Churchill clones?
In November, 1605, a man named Guy Fawkes tried to blow up King James and the British Parliament in the "Gunpowder Plot." He and his co-conspirators were all Roman Catholics. The plot was foiled and Fawkes was hung and then drawn and quartered. This plot caused centuries of suspicion and distrust of Catholics in Britain as well as "Guy Fawkes Night" celebrations - which continue even today - on Nov. 5, the day the plot was thwarted.
Yet today, the conspirators are "understood" by the media, fawned over by MP George Galloway, and get a pass from the leftist fools in the UK who would rather see the island devolve to the 7th century than offend their home-grown jihadists.
Orwell was right - history repeats itself, and this is certainly a farce.

Allah must be very unhappy that so many of his jihadists are getting captured or killed, and so many of their plots are getting foiled. He has given them all the right tools and then they fail him.He has given them the Quran, Hadith and Mohammad as a prophet and role model, he has even given them 'supergrass', to get them through the night and yet they fail him. This really distresses Allah. If these losses and failures continue, he might have to send Gabriel and a few thousand angelic warriors to help out his muslims. Maybe thats Mahdi, who will gather a vast army in Afghanistan and conquor the world for Islam...or maybe thats just 'supergrass' talking...'dont bogart that joint, my friend, pass it over to me'...Well, maybe Allah knows best after-all...
