Now that liberal forms of Islam have been banned in Indonesia, the saga of the giant teapot has come to an end, from StarOnline, with thanks to Nicolei.
JERTEH: The giant teapot and other key structures at the Sky Kingdom commune came tumbling down yesterday after the Besut District Council sent in it's demolition squad.More than 30 followers of the sect, who watched the demolition, did not resist or challenge the authorities.
Several children of sect leader Ariffin Mohamad, known as Ayah Pin to his followers, were among those who watched the Sky Kingdom symbols crashing to earth...
The followers were taken by surprise when the 40 council workers entered the commune with four excavators and five lorries at 2.30pm. About 50 policemen and officers from the state Islamic Affairs department accompanied them.
Sky Kingdom follower Sulaiman Takrib, 56, said the perimeter wall was the first to go, followed by the assembly hall, the boat, the Dewan Bulat, the Dewan Nasyid, the teapot and other structures...
The Terengganu Islamic affairs department had put them on the wanted list for being involved in teachings deviant to Islamic beliefs.
They will be charged at the Lower Syariah Court today under Section 10 of the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) (Terengganu) Enactment 2001...
Aww ...that's so sad!
It's a terrible situation in the world when a few whackaloons can't worship a teapot, isn't it?
It's Islam or nothing.
I'm waiting for a sign Islam has an inkling we're in the 21st Century. Still waiting. And waiting.
This does not bode well for all the cultural treasures in Eurabia. I'd suggest emptying the Louvre - not to mention the entire cultural heritage of Europe - placing all its contents in storage somewhere in Antarctica.
I'm confused. It's hard to identify the crackpots here.
Beagle,
I'd suggest hiding the treasures in a large teapot because they'd never find them ...oops!
...Maybe not.
I found this teapot sect touching and admirable, and wish it had continued. It was prompted, obviously, by the desperate urge to present an alternative to Islam, but something other than the other obvious choice -- Christianity -- conversion to which might have been dangerous.
It did not harm. In any decent society, it would have been left alone. In Muslim Indonesia, it was not.
Teapots today, gothic cathedrals tomorrow.
I have had enough of islamonazism.
"The Terengganu Islamic affairs department had put them on the wanted list for being involved in teachings deviant to Islamic beliefs"
So they did not believe in sex with children. did not believe in rape and murder as a way of lifetime achievement, did not believe in fornicating with animals and the dead, did not believe in clitorectomy of children.
I apologize Robert but I have had enough of these F***** bastards. When the backlash starts I will be there to help "liberate" these muzzies from their decrepit life.
We are all teapots today
Beagle, Hugh and Dr Phibes have it right. This is no laughing matter. It is as poignant a manifestation of Islamic intolerance short of murder as there is.
There used to be a popular children's toy in UK called the Big Yellow Tea Pot. It was basically a dolls house shaped like a tea pot with jolly round people who sat on tea cup chairs and drove a tea pot car. The Sky teapot reminded me of it, the epitome of chidlike innocence.
Shame.
Ah yes, more islamic tolerance.Don't worry the demented trolls will tell us its cultural.
I like tea, with my pork rinds.
Apparently, since Islam can't be defended with the intellect, violence must naturally be used.
Like CCR says, "I see a bad moon rising..."
First they came for the teapots, but I was not a teapot....
Actually, this story disturbs more deeply than one might suspect, possibly because of the kind of obvious mirth that the sect evokes. But why should it? In a Muslim universe, these people, a mere handful, are all by themselves. They tried something else. They wanted out of Islam. What they came up with is undeniably comic. But so what? They are not causing harm, not inculcating hostility. They have no outside group to intervene for them, even to protest their persecution. Jokes possibly are not quite the response here. At least, that is how it now strikes me. Yet one cannot blame anyone, either, for making, nervously, a joke or two. A strange story, with nothing soothing and much that is pitiful, about it.
Look at the country code of the URL reporting this story; this happened in Malaysia (land of jizya paid by industrious Chinese immigrants to the Muslim Malay "princes of the soil"), not Indonesia.
Reminds me of a funny posting (hopefully not on these boards so I won't repeat the joke) about authorities shuting down a jihadist website. In the response to all the diaper libertarians crying foul someone wrote: "First they came for Hezbollah and I did nothing. You know why? Because it was f@%king Hezbollah!"
My Allah is better...
No time for tea! Coffee-filters rule supreme!
The myth of Islamic tolerance!

Malaysia where:
1. Dato' Seri Najib kicked the ball first to insist to insist none should openly debate if Muslims could slander the followers of other religions
2. Non-Malays living in the vicinity of mosques in Kuala Lumpur hear this call to arms against the non-Muslims through high-pitches megaphones

Note: The Najib arse is the Dy. PM of Malaysia.
The Malaysian Govt. is currently espousing a cockamamy brand of Islam called `Islam HadHari`. 2 arabian islamic `sholars` approved it and one of them was that Yusuf Qaradhawi (of Islamic Brotherhood fame).
Ayah Pin (of this Tea fame) is called to task because he put islam on the same footing as other religions - which immediately classifies it as a `deviant sect`.
Hugh does make a good point. Jokes and invective won't ultimately do much.
What needs to be offered to those who wish to leave Islam for something like Christianity, is well, Christianity. Not the TV preacher flavor, but I'm sure there are Christians there locally who are reaching out to Muslims with a real message of peace with God, peace with their neighbor, and a message of real hope. We should be supporting the locals who know how to reach the individual Muslim. I for one recommend Voice of The Martyrs at www.persecution.org as a starting place. You can find out what is happening at the local level to Christians and non-Muslims throughout the world. Unfortunately it isn't pretty.
It's the hunger for something real that leads Muslims away from Islam. I propose that we (the West) can offer them something other than war.
...They will be charged in the lower sharia court.."
anyone want to make book on these poor suckers ever seeing another Ramadan?
