US reporter killed 'because he was to marry a Muslim'

A startling but believable report from The Scotsman (thanks to Eugene) -- Islamic law does forbid marriage between Muslim women and non-Muslim men.

AN American journalist who was shot dead in Basra last week was executed by Shiite extremists who knew he was intending to marry his Muslim interpreter, it has emerged.

Steven Vincent was shot a week before the planned wedding to Nouriya Itais and had already delivered a $2,500 dowry to her family.

The disclosure casts new light on the grip of Islamic religious sects in the British-run south- east of Iraq - raising concern that they will take control once troops start to withdraw. Mr Vincent was abducted from his hotel three days after writing a piece in the New York Times accusing British officials of allowing religious parties to infiltrate the Basra police.

In America, his death was taken as retribution for his article. But in London yesterday, British officials pointed out that the police in Basra believed it was retribution for his affair.

Muslim men can marry any darn non Muslim woman they want for their wife or their second or third wife. Just so long as she converts and turns into a Muslim baby factory. Which is what happens 99.99% of the time

But the other way around is forbidden. You marry a Muslim woman and you are depriving the so called Ummah of a Muslim baby factory because they calculate she will turn non-Muslim same as you are. Her offspring are lost to the demographic Jihad which Islam forbids.

This story is crap. Vincent's already married, his blog entries were written in the form of letters to his wife.

This is a smoke screen, either from the conveniently anonymous British source or from the Basra "police".

Dennis i know a loser who converted to Islam from Sikhism to marry a Muslim gal... he was promptly excommunicated by his community tho...

Good heavens, I didn't pick up on the name earlier. This is the young man who wrote the article on British Forces attempts to improve life for the local inhabitants in Basra that I was so struck with in June http://www.jihadwatch.org/archives/006743.php

There is a tribute to him (if this was already linked to the earlier story then I apologise) from The National Review.
http://www.nationalreview.com/lopez/lopez200508030843.asp
The tribute refers to his wife and also asks for prayer for the young woman translator, who had worked with him for a long time and who was kidnapped with him and left seriously injured. Perhaps the murderers were unable to appreciate that a man and woman can work together and can be friends without having an affair or contemplating marriage.

Do they need any excuse other than they are the chosen of Allah, and all must bow or die?

The sooner this gets through the p.c. armored-plated craniums of more people in the West, the sooner the taqiyya veils will fall.

Muslim men marry non-Muslim women to "revert" them to Islam and create more Muslims. Muslim women marrying non-Muslims are leaving the control of Islam and creating possible non-Muslims, an intolerable situation for Islam. The goal of all Islam is make all t he world Muslim and such a marriage would thwart this goal, one person at a time.

Bullshit. Have any of you ever seen a Muslim, let alone talk to one? I have a (very Muslim) aunt with a British (read WASP) husband. My non-"second or third" wife is American, and is decidedly no "Muslim baby factory."

Do yourselves a favor and try to question your assumptions every once in a while.

Raven, your argument suffers from the hasty generalization fallacy. Your sample, my immediate family is that way so Muslims in general are not like that, is too small to be valid. Now, I don't think anyone here is saying every Muslim is like that. However, having large numbers of children, and forbidding women from marrying non-Muslims is a general Muslim cultural trait.

Are you a Muslim? If so, how do you refute the violent and dehumanising portions of the Koran?

I am not trying to start a fight, I'm just curious.

(And yes, I do know a few Muslims. I also know a few people who have lived in countries with large Muslim populations and they don't have much good to say about Muslims.)

Not quite on topic, but a thought I need to express:

Any standard English dictionary will define the word phobia as, "a persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous."

And, on any given day, one can find a writer somewhere in the world using the trite and highly inaccurate term, “Islamophobia”; a coined term which is used liberally by Islamic apologists and their leftist confederates to describe anybody who is critical of Islam. This labeling prompts one to ask: Will a discerning approach towards one of the three Abrahamic religions lead a person down the road of “irrational fear, despite the awareness and reassurance that it (Islam) is not dangerous?” Does a critical analysis of Islam equate to a “persistent, abnormal and irrational fear” of it?

The answers to these rhetorical questions are no because the unbiased student can only derive one conclusion after studying the historicity and the stated goals (via Qur’an and Sira)of Islam: that it is indeed dangerous and should be feared. That student will also conclude from his studies that jihad, as sanctioned by Allah, is a physical war waged upon infidels in order to make Islam dominant and Shari'a the law of the land. Once the Caliphate is installed (or in our day - restored), the peoples of the book (Jews and Christians) become "protected" peoples (the dhimma) who are compelled to convert to Islam because of an exorbitant poll tax (jizya) and a system of humiliating laws which render the "dhimmi" a second class citizen.

Does the slaughter of seventy million Indian Hindus by Muslim invaders or the jihad genocide perpetrated by Turkish Muslims against Armenian Christians comprise an “irrational” fear? A fear yes, but an irrational one? Do the reassurances that Islam is a religion of peace by the Ulema and their liberal alliance give comfort to those infidels who face daily acts of murder and destruction by their Muslim neighbors in countries such as Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Phillipines and Thailand?

This is the goal of Islam, past and present, and being aware of it does not constitute a phobia. The works of Bat Ye’or, Andrew Bostom and Robert Spencer (to mention only three) bear witness to this fact. Are their works the drivel of Islamophobes or erudition of the cognitively aware? To label that awareness as Islamophobic relegates truth to the level of an inanity; a deranged gratuity to those who desire ignorance in order to more easily control.

Truth demands that the terms, Islamophobia and Islamophobe, be expurgated from human expression. Truth dictates to this writer that he propose a coining of their replacements: Islamocognition and Islamocognitive.

In the large number of situations this `forced conversion` applies.
Interestingly, in Indonesia and India there are also many cases of `mixed marriages` where thye non-muslims do not convert (bollywood has the more visible examples).

This is a good read:

`Again, the penalties of a non-Muslim guilty of fornication with a Muslim woman are augmented because, in addition to the crime against morality, social duty and religion, he has committed sacrilege, in that he has disgraced a Muslim and thereby cast scorn upon the Muslims in general, and so must be executed. "Have any of you ever seen a Muslim, let alone talk to one?"

The Local authority district where my fathers family originate is now 36% Moslem. Where my mothers family originate and I was born - 14%. Where I spent most of my childhood and my parents are buried (in the shadow of a hugh green dome and a minaret shaped like a scud missile)- 15%, Where I used to work - 12%, where I currently work also 12%, Where my husband's family originate - 16%. These are statistics from the Moslem Council of Britain.

When I travel to work later I will ride past domes and minarets, I will face women in veils and young men with rucksacks. I will read in my paper about the funeral of a man from my neighbourhood who happened to be going to work on the morning of 7 July. When I get to work I can use the first aid room should I be taken ill since my Moslem colleagues now have their own prayer room while the Christian network and the Jewish group scrabble for space anywhere in our buildings to meet once a month and the Sikhs and Hindus meet outside less formally.

Yes, I have met Moslems, plenty of them.

Well if ur askin me sir...
yes i've seen moslems millions of 'em.
Camberley is roughly 6% Moslem... as for rest of Surrey its even more than national average. I'm 1/4th Sindhi hence i might have distant relatives who're bound to b moslems...

Vikrant, and if I recall your earlier posts correctly your family has seen Islam at uncomfortably close quarters, have you not?

This act will further arouse anxieties, fear and apprehension among Christian immigrants from Muslim countries, Hindus and other minority communities in the UK, who know the reality of Islam. In the long term, this does not bode well for the continuation of democracy in the UK.

Such idiotic acts, born from total ignorance about islam, its practices and motivations, will further embolden the Islamists, who see them as a sign of weakness of the Infidels, as well as justification, both moral and strategic for their continuing Jihad.

It is hard to fathom the depths of stupidy of our political elite with current methods of measurement. One needs a new yard stick.

Well Granny... My Dad is a Maratha which is a warrior clan. In about 17th century the rose in rebellion against the Mughal, from their rugged semi-arid home land of Northern Deccan, along with their allies the Sikhs. The rebellion lasted 60 years and culminated with the death of Aurangzeb who died fighting Marathas after that they effectively replaced Mughals with Maratha Confederacy which even ruled some parts of Afghanistan. They lost power to Afghans during the third battle of Panipat where 100000 Marathas and Sikhs were slaughtered during a single day. My maternal grand father was a Sindhi Hindu who lived near Karachi (now in Pakistan). He was uncereminously kicked out during the partition, while most of his family were killed by Muslims, one of his sisters was forced to convert to Islam and was married of to a Mullah by her captors. Whats more Pakistan didnt even let him visit Sindh even once. He died here in Britain without fulfilling his life long dream... to visit his ancestral village in Pakistan...

Anyways I dont monger for sympathy from anybdy but i hope that Kashmiri Pandits dont face the fate of Sindhi Hindus. Sindhi Hindus are a culturally dead people. Most of the 8 million Sindhi Hindus around the world dont even know a word of Sindhi. Alas their customs, folk songs, language born out of a 3000 years of association with Sindhu (river Indus) have been wiped out by a cruel partition which they still have accepted. Sindh was 35% Hindu i wonder why on earth did entire Sindh go to Pakistan...

"Have any of you ever seen a Muslim, let alone talk to one?"
-- from an indignant posting above

Many of those posting here have constant contact with Muslims, some of whom are, of course, the kind the poster above is talking about, the mild-mannered, thankfully in the main indifferent Muslims, indifferent that is to what is contained in Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira. These "Muslim-for-identifiction-purposes-only" Mulsims, whose Islam consists only of observing Ramadan, or possibly Ramadan and the five daily prayers, are not the people to worry about. But Infidels have no way of distinguishing those people from the very great number of the other kind of Muslims, those who take their Islam quite seriously. And not only do we know when that "Muslim-for-identification-purposes-only" kind of Muslim is on the level, and not faking it, not de-emphasizing his loyalty to Islma out of filial piety or something else, something that he (or she) cannot shake off or jettison (in other words, cannot emulate Ibn Warraq, Anwar Shaikh, Ali Sina, and hundreds of thousands of others, many keeping their views quiet, who were born into Islam, began to study Islam, were living in countries where it was possible to educate oneself freely about the matter and, what's more, to leave Islam without being killed or otherwise severely punihsed (as would happen in any Muslim country).

Yes, many of us have spent years talking to Muslims, listening to what they say, and then how they may contradict themselves, or may say something inadvertently revealing, or may show a sympathy for the umma al-islamiyya that not onlyu takes precedence over, but wipes out entirely, any possibility of loyalty to Infidels who are fellow-citizens of the Infidel nation-state in which they may, but only geographically, be said to be part of.

It is those who confuse the anecdotal evidence of a wife or mother-in-law, who is not wild-eyed and gives no signs of supporting Jihad anytime soon (but what does it mean to "support Jihad" in order to spread Islam? It can mean merely presenting oneself, falsely, as a representative Muslim when one's soothing exterior only prolongs Infidel unwariness, for that too promotes the Jihad.

Terrahawk :

Raven, your argument suffers from the hasty generalization fallacy. Your sample, my immediate family is that way so Muslims in general are not like that, is too small to be valid.

I'm guilty of generalization? Perhaps. But the overall sentiment in the comments to this post is far worse. Let's face it - most people here seem to think of all (ok most) Muslims as Jihad-loving, illiterate, misogynistic, violent etc. etc. (Should I say bearded and smelly too?) We're talking about a lot of people here!

Are you a Muslim? If so, how do you refute the violent and dehumanising portions of the Koran?

I guess I'm Muslim if you take out the religion part. Meaning I was raised as a Muslim, and have a Muslim-sounding name so most people would automatically assume that I am one. But I don't believe in god etc., or think that Mohammed was a thoroughly decent chap if that's what you're asking :)

I don't refute the "violent" and "dehumanising" portions of the Koran? Why should I? The religion came from a tribal, desert people a century-and-a-half ago. It's primitive, cruel, often downright silly. Just like every other religion. But I do distinguish between Islam and Muslims. My parents are Muslim - as are half the people I know in the world - but none are Jihad-loving, infidel-hating, woman-abusing polygamists! The fundamentalist types are a big joke. No one used to take them seriously. Until they started to blow stuff up. And now, they're as much my problem as yours. More perhaps, since I have to deal with their violence and the fact that ordinary people like you may now look upon me with suspicion.

Yikes!

The religion came from a tribal, desert people a century-and-a-half ago.

That's a millenium-and-a-half, of course :)

Vikrant:

In Malaysia it is the law that any non-muslim marrying a muslim will have to convert.

So there was a situation similar to the one you mention. Only here what happened was the Sikh guy after some time did the `talak` and then migrated to Australia where he re-converted to Sikhism.

Another situation is where an anglo-australian married a muslim lady (for work and PR purpose). However both attend Church and the muslim partner is now trying to `convert` her mother to christianity-which upsets the old lady quite a bit.
