I said this on the Alan Colmes Show last Friday night and Colmes was appalled. Now Andrew McCarthy says it in National Review (thanks to DC Watson):
Radical mosques are the spark lighting the fuse that can kill Americans. That has killed Americans. That will kill more if we let it. Such killing sprees, moreover, are plotted by young, male, Muslim militants who often enter to the United States on student and other visas from places known to sponsor or export terrorism.None of this is news. But it is cloaked in taboo. Thus, controversy was stoked last week when Mitt Romney, the Massachusetts governor and potential Republican 2008 presidential hopeful, did something that you should never do in this country. Not, at least, if you want to escape the caterwauling of civil liberties extremists and a cacophony of activist Muslim organizations whose knee-jerk approach to "opposing" terror is indignant spewing at every effort made to prevent it.
He told the truth.
Gov. Romney suggested that in the ongoing war, we ought to be investigating mosques that preach Islamic militancy and the young men who come to this country from rogue precincts of the Islamic world.
For giving voice to such a notion, Romney's comeuppance is to have the usual suspects screaming for an apology.
Instead, we should be giving him a medal.
Monitoring radical mosques is exactly what we ought to be doing if we want to avoid domestic terror attacks on the United States. It should be the top priority. And not due to conjecture. We know for certain, and we have known for many years, that modern terrorists are inspired by the Islamic extremism they are routinely fed in mosques — whether here, or in Europe. Not all mosques, but many of them.
The only problem here is that we cannot know which mosques need monitoring without monitoring them. As long ago as 1999 Sheikh Muhammad Hisham Kabbani testified before a State Department Open Forum: "The most dangerous thing that is going on now in these mosques, that has been sent upon these mosques around the United States – like churches they were established by different organizations and that is ok – but the problem with our communities is the extremist ideology. Because they are very active they took over the mosques; and we can say that they took over more than 80% of the mosques that have been established in the US. And there are more than 3000 mosques in the US. So it means that the methodology or ideology of extremist has been spread to 80% of the Muslim population, but not all of them agree with it."
Kabbani's testimony is now over six years old and has never been investigated. It is time to do so. Let mosques prove they are not among that 80% (if Kabbani is right) by cooperating actively with investigations to that end.
Right on, Robert.
A week or so ago, one of the commenters here mentioned that the mosque in his neighborhood looked like a "fortress" and I thought about the ones that I have seen in my area. There are three large ones around here, and they ARE fortresses.
I pointed one out to my wife last Friday afternoon. She already knew it was there, but she was astonished to see the elaborate security measures in effect. Gated automobile entrance, "greeters" at the gate. Looked like a military base without the uniforms.
The entrance doors, based on the three big mosques I am talking about, are all offset or shielded from the street, so they are impossible to see. The entrances are set back, the closest being about fifty meters from the gates. There are few windows, and those are rather smaller and higher than one would expect.
I am telling you this Texan is concerned by the appearance of these Mosques. They do not have the same "flavor" or "feel" of any church or temple I have seen.
My aging mother used to talk about the Bund (spelling?) that used to exist in the United States before World War II. These were apparently organizations of NAZI sympathizers that ran around in the typical brown shirt uniforms and boots that were worn by the party members in Germany at the time. They held rallies and marched in parades. When the war broke out, they disappeared. I don't know if they were monitored by the FBI and arrested, or if they just figured they had better shut up and ditch the clothes, but they became invisible.
I do hope someone is watching the mosques. When the spaghetti hits the fan, those mosques are going to be full of weapons, and they have engineered their buildings to make entrance a very bloody affair.
Similar to the cameras on street corners that some people protest is a violation of their rights and their privacy, we've found in the aftermath of the London bombings that their security cameras turned out to be invaluable when it came to finding out who the culprits were.
I’ve seen many interviews with ordinary, common people on the street who speak sense and say that there’s no problem with security cameras if you’re not doing anything wrong. Like those common people, if the mosques aren’t up to no good, then being recorded shouldn’t be any problem, should it?
In other words: those who are against it are likely the same individuals who are preaching the hateful bile.
Romney should be given a medal and should take over homeland security with such statements as he has given. A true American in a land full of dhimmis…
The Qur'anic passage that reads "slay the infidels everywher they are found" constitutes no less than CONSPIRACY TO COMMIT MULTIPLE MURDERS.
Muslims take this passage SERIOUSLY.
Mosques demand that their followers OBEY IT.
Idiot westerners are blissfully aware that it is THEY who are the "infidels" or the intended targets and permit Muslims to settle their territories and build their mosques in their homelands so that they can be murdered.
Seeing that we Americans are and have been targeted for murder for much longer than we knew (since the late 1700s), we have the right to take absolutely ANY actions necessary to stop these people from massacring our people. Even if that means abridging the right to freedom of religion--although it was a clear screw up to let Islam into our country in the first place. It's not our fault that murder is on Islam's agenda. It will be our fault for not doing something about it though.
To actively thwart people like Romney from protecting our citizens from Islamic jihad activity (eg murder) is to be an ACCESSORY TO MURDER.
I appreciate efforts of people like Romney to save America lives, which is what I believe he to be doing with this recommendation.
I can already hear the wagging tounges of the apologists.
"Why don't you record what's being said in churches and synagouges?"
Sure,go ahead.You'll never hear a priest or rabbi call for the death of an entire country or any other such mentally defective statements anyway.Go ahead and record them.Given how open every church I've ever seen has been,there's no way they could keep someone from secretly recording the entire proceedings anyway.
Christianity has the Pearly Gates and islam has security gates.Just another one of those minor "cultural" differences I guess.

If investigating the Mafia, keep an eye on Italian restaurants and strip clubs.
If looking for drug dealers, watch nightclubs, certain streetcorners, neighborhoods, and strip clubs.
As you can see, cops can justify 'working' in strip clubs. Checking the dimensions on the nipple covers and such. I digress.
Investigations of Enron should take place in their nerve center and various subsidiaries.
Jihadis take you to mosques, Islamic centers, and strip clubs.
80% ?
Thought it was closer to 90%.
Just about every mosque has been papered with Saudi petrodollars and staffed with Wahhabi imams.
Time to bring in the bulldozers.
The House of Saud, it is claimed, has forced the Administration to issue a Roadmap To Peace (extinction) in the Middle East.
Time to wake up and smell the coffee.
Not only should all mosques be monitored, but so should madrassas and summer camps for Muslim children, if possible. Such venues are likely places for indoctrination.
Romney for President!
Romney for president, yes, but that would not be until 2008. We need him now as Attorney General.

We should investigate not just mosques, but each and every place in which a conspiracy could be hatched. Once the conspirators know that the mosques are monitored, they would not conspire inside the mosques. They would conspire in malls, markets, restaurants, and all other places where people gather and spend time. So, we must monitor all places where people could gather.
Should we monitor places frequented by Muslims alone, or all places? Islam is very stern in its treatment of the apostates. No one can enter Islam and then later claim that they would leave it. This is because, even in the midst of war, an enemy of Islam can utter the ‘Confirmation of Faith’ and become a Muslim thus escaping virtually imminent death. Thus, allowing a person who entered Islam to save his life when overpowered to leave Islam later on would reduce the practice of Islam to a mockery. As Islam is very stern in its treatment of the apostates, it is very kind to those who embrace Islam.
Any one who becomes a Muslim is pardoned all the sins committed so far, even if he had murdered thousands before becoming a Muslim. Up to what time is such reversion is accepted? It is until the time of starting of the pain of death.
A person born as a non-Muslim could become a Muslim in heart and may reveal his / her true faith just before death. One lady who hid her faith and revealed it just before death is honored in the Holy Quran. Quoting Verse 11 of Chapter 66 of the Holy Quran, we have:
===
66:11 And Allah sets forth as an example to those who believe the wife of Pharaoh: Behold she said: “O my Lord! build for me in nearness to Thee a mansion in the Garden and save me from Pharaoh and his doings and save me from those that do wrong”;
===
It is interesting to know the lady paired with the wife of Pharaoh. It is given in the next Verse.
===
And Mary the daughter of Imran who guarded her chastity; and We breathed into her (body) of Our spirit; and she testified to the truth of the words of her Lord and His Revelations and was one of the devout (servants).
===
That is, the adopted mother of Prophet Moses, peace be upon him, and the real mother of Prophet Jesus, son of Mary, peace be upon them are honored by Allah. The above distinction was spoken by Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, also. Tradition numbered 329 in Volume 7 of Sahih Al-Bukhari refers to them. Quoting, we have:
===
Narrated Abu Musa Al Ashari
The Prophet said, “Many men reached perfection but none among the women reached perfection except Mary, the daughter of Imran, and Asia, Pharaoh’s wife. And the superiority of Aisha to other women is like the superiority of Tharid to other kinds of food.”
===
What is the relevance? Since a revert may retain the old identity until the approach of death, the jihadist need not be one with a Muslim name; need not dress as a Muslim; need not live as a Muslim.
How are we to protect ourselves from such a jihadist? Well, let us monitor every individual inside USA so that we are sure to arrest any jihadist-at-heart before he / she attains martyrdom. Hence, Governor Romney must monitor every person living inside USA.
What are we to do, if the conspiracy is hatched outside USA, and the jihadist enters USA under a non-Muslim name? Well, the nations outside USA are either with us or against us. The nations with us would monitor each and every one living within their borders and thus we can be sure that any jihadist would be nabbed when she / he indulges in conspiracy.
There could be some foolish nations which value real freedom, and might refuse to monitor their citizens. Well, no body from such nations would be allowed to set foot inside USA.
The sum total of all the above is that, Governor Romney would end up splitting the world into two parts: those that monitor their citizens and those that doesn’t. Only the nations that monitor their citizens would be allowed to interact with USA.
The citizens of all those countries that refuse to monitor their citizens would be denied entry. That is, all those who agree to be slaves of Governor Romney are welcome, and any who values real freedom is unwelcome. By extension, any American – citizen or resident – who refuses to be monitored would be deported!
We do indeed have a very bright and free future!
