Hundreds of jihadists in Australia

Recent reports from Australia have suggested the existence of as many as 800 terrorist suspects currently residing in the country. Today, however, it was revealed that the Australian government had received intelligence as early as 2002 which indicated that hundreds of Islamic extremists had already infiltrated Australia, some of whom were willing to carry out suicide attacks against civilian targets. The information, if accurate, means that the number of Australian jihadists has increased over 100% in just three years, according to The Australian newspaper:

ASIO [Australian Security and Intelligence Organization] was last night investigating a claim that as early as 2002 there were 300 extremists in Australia willing to mount a terror attack.

The claim is understood to have been made by an Australian terror suspect who was jailed in the Middle East because of his links with the al-Qa'ida terror network.

The suspect is alleged to have boasted of the strength of al-Qa'ida's network in Australia during a telephone call made to an associate in Hamburg.

That conversation was recorded by German police.

The suspect is now back in Australia and is understood to be on an ASIO watchlist.

The development comes after The Australian revealed earlier this week that, in the wake of the July 7 London bombings, ASIO believes there are now as many as 800 people in Australia who could be inspired to carry out such an attack.

These figures are much too low. For they are counting only those who have declared themselves, who are, among fellow Muslims, already up to their neck. But what about the tens or hundreds of thousands of Muslims in the Western world, behind what they regard as enemy lines, who have not declared themselves, but could be mobilized, could be persuaded to participate if they felt that, as a communal or individual duty, Islam demanded it of them -- and who have refrained so far because as yet they have not been so moved. For all sorts of things -- personal problems such as a loss of job, girlfriend or status, fury that the local Infidels do not readily meet the demands of orgnaized Islamic groups, possible indignation over events anywhere in the world where Muslims confront, make demands on, persecute, attack, murder non-Muslims (Christians, Jews, Hindus, Sikhs, Zoroastrians, Confucians, and every other kind of non-Muslim).

And beyond those tens or hundreds of thousands, are the millions in the West, behind those same enemy lines, who are allowed to live not only without any hindrance, but find the governments of the Western world mostly bending over backwards to make them as comfortable as possible, trying so desperately not to offend the local Muslims, not to point out that their attempts to change the Infidel lands for the sake of Islam and islamic beliefs is passing strange, and desperate as well to "integrate" these Muslims while failing completely to realize that most Muslims are taught not to integrate, not to befriend "Jews and Christians for they are friends only with each other," not to fall for the whisperings of Shaytan that can be heard in the siren-song of seeming kindness offered by Infidels. 19 Muslims were responsible for 9/11 directly. Hundreds of others knew about the planning in one way or another. Millions, tens of millions, danced in the streets, slaughtered goats and sheep for impromptu feasts, shriekd or ululated with delight -- in Cairo and Ramallah, in Riyadh and Beirut, in Damascus and Baghdad, in Karachi and Dacca. The one place, where a few Muslims did not celebrate, was in Iran, where among those enlightened few, who have experienced the Islamic Republic of Iran, Islam itself has fallen into disrepute.

A few hundred -- no, far more than that. And we Infidels will never be sure, can never be sure, when this or that seeming "moderate" is transformed, for reasons we may never understand, into an "immoderate" Muslim. And even if that "moderate" remains "moderate," who knows what the children, or the grandchildren, will be like? Already all the evidence suggests that they will be far more devout and even fanatical than the first generation of immigrants , many of whose representatives were intent only on making a living.

The "My Son the Fanatic" problem is real, is identifiable, and there are examples of the phenomenon all over the place. Just look.

The Marines have been involved in some of the most important battles in the history of the United States and the World. The following are some of the most notable ones, and descriptions of the Marines role in the battle.
Tripoli 1805 - Marines assemble a fleet to Derna, Tripoli to put down Barbary Coast pirates taking a toll on American merchant ships in the Mediterranean. Lieutenant Presley O'Bannon and his Marines marched across 600 miles of North Africa's Libyan Desert to successfully storm the fortified tripolitan City of Derna. Marines today sing about the victory in the second line of their hymn: "to the shores of Tripoli."

On August 1, 1801, within one month of arriving in the Mediterranean, the Enterprise was engaged in its first action. As a ruse, the Enterprise was flying the British Union Jack as it approached the corsair vessel Tripoli.
Hailing the Tripoli, Sterrett asked what business had brought her to sea. The enemy commander replied that he was hunting Americans but had not, alas, been able to find any. Down went the Enterprise's British flag, up went the American colors, and Sterrett's men fired their muskets across the Tripolitan deck; the Tripoli answered with a ragged broadside

In one especially daring episode, early in June 1803, the Enterprise sighted a dozen grain-carrying ships trying to sneak into Tripoli harbor and chased them into a bay west of the city. On June 11, a group of 50 seamen from the Enterprise and other ships in the American squadron, led by Lt. David Porter of the USS New York and Lt. James Lawrence of the Enterprise, went ashore to set fire to the grain boats.
The 50 Americans were met by an army of Tripolitans that [Commodore] Morris estimated at nearly 1,000.... It was a pell-mell battle, but despite the heavy odds, the Americans gradually fought their way up the beach.... [Lt. Porter] kept his small force concentrated on the beach head only long enough for the men in the fire boats to ignite the grain boats. Then he called for retreat, and got nearly all his men back into their boats before he was hit simultaneously in both legs. Crawling into one of the boats, he continued to direct the retreat until he became too weak from loss of blood and called to Lt. Lawrence to take over. Under a hail of bullets the boats raced back to the [American] ships, the sailors and marines watching in satisfaction as the grain boats burned fiercely behind them.18

On the night of February 16, 1804, the Intrepid, with Decatur in command and manned by 60 men from the Enterprise and seven men from other American ships, sailed into the harbor of Tripoli. As they approached the Philadelphia, a breeze sent the Intrepid directly in front of the larger ship's gun batteries. But, they successfully tricked the Tripolitan seamen aboard the Philadelphia into thinking that the Intrepid was still under Tripolitan control, and were soon tied up next to the Philadelphia. Decatur and his men then jumped aboard the Philadelphia, swords in hand. According to one report on the incident:
The sleepy Tripolitans never expected a gang of howling Americans to appear in the midst of a harbor protected by a massive fortress. Many of the Tripolitans simply leaped overboard; others fled below to the orlop deck; the rest were quickly cut down.... Fires were started in every corner of the ship, and the flames began to lick up into the tarred rigging. Decatur was the last man off -- in a flying leap into the rigging of the Intrepid.... When [the Philadelphia] was just under the [Bashaw's] castle, the fire finally reached her magazine and she exploded with an immense thunderclap that reverberated over the town and showered its inhabitants with blazing remnants

READ THE WHOLE THING?

By the end of the 18th century, the rulers of Algiers, Tunis and Tripoli had become notorious for harboring pirates and themselves engaging in piracy and the slave-trade in whites (chiefly captured seamen).

European states found it convenient to ransom these unfortunates rather than go to war. Admiral Nelson, commanding the British Mediterranean Fleet, was forbidden to carry out reprisals. "My blood boils," he wrote, "that I cannot chastise these pirates."

By contrast, the U.S. was determined to do so. Pirates were the main reason Congress established a navy in 1794. In 1805, American marines marched across the desert from Egypt, forcing the pasha of Tripoli to sue for peace and surrender all American captives -- an exploit recalled by the U.S. Marine Corps anthem: "From the Halls of Montezuma to the Shores of Tripoli."

It was reinforced in 1815 when Commodores Stephen Decatur and William Bainbridge conducted successful operations against all three of the Barbary States, as they were called.

This shamed the British into taking action themselves, and the following year Admiral Lord Exmouth subjected Algiers to what was then the fiercest naval bombardment in history -- 38,667 rounds of cannon balls, 960 large-caliber shells and hundreds of rockets. However, these victories were ephemeral. The beys repudiated the treaties they were obliged to sign as soon as American and British ships were over the horizon.

It was the French who took the logical step, in 1830, not only of storming Algiers but of conquering the entire country. France eventually turned Algeria into part of metropolitan France and settled one million colonists there. It solved the Tunis piracy problem by turning Tunisia into a protectorate, a model it later followed in Morocco. Spain, too, digested bits of the Barbary Coast, followed by Italy, which overthrew the pasha of Tripoli and created Libya. Tangiers, another nuisance, was ruled by a four-power European commission.

The eventual decolonization of North Africa was a messy and bloody business. In Algeria in particular, which the French had ruled for over 120 years, they withdrew only after a horrific war that produced over a million casualties and overthrew the Fourth Republic. The Italian record in Libya was so bad that its memory was a key factor in Col. Moammar Gadhafi's seizure of power and the resumption of outlaw activities.

In 1815 Britain had to take action because ships of its East India Company were being attacked in international waters. But it did so only in conjunction with two powerful allies, the ruler of Muscat and Oman, still Britain's firm friend, and Mohamed Ali of Egypt.

British naval operations produced a general treaty against piracy signed by all the rulers, great and small, of the Arabian Coast and Persian Gulf. But Britain had learned from experience that "covenants without swords" were useless, and that the sheikhs would only stick to their treaty obligations if "enforcement bases" were set up.

Hence Britain found itself becoming a major power in the Middle East, with a colony and base in Aden, other bases up and down the Gulf, and a network of treaties and protectorates with local rulers, whose heirs were educated at the British school of princes in India.

The United States and the Barbary Pirates
The American Revolution was barely over before the United States faced its first foreign policy test. What should the United States do about North African pirate states that plundered American shipping?
On September 11, 2001, terrorists struck the United States, killing about 4,000 people. The U.S. president responded by declaring a war on terrorism. He got Congress to authorize using force against any nation, organization, or person involved in the attack or against any nation harboring the terrorist organizations.
When the United States began, it faced another foreign policy test: How should it respond to the Barbary pirates who were plundering its ships?

WE CAN NOT FORGET OUR HISTORY AND MUST STAND AND FIGHT AS OUR FORFATHERS DID FOR FREEDOM!!!

READ THE WHOLE THING
The Barbary pirates were mostly Berbers, Arabs, and other Muslims, but some came from Christian Europe. The pirates used small, fast-moving vessels to capture trading ships and their cargoes. They held the crews and passengers for ransom or sold them as slaves.

AGAIN READ THE WHOLE THING?

Each of the four Barbary States had its own ruler. He was usually a military strongman who had grabbed the throne by assassinating the ruler or murdering rival family members.
In 1662, England made the first treaty with a Barbary ruler. This set the pattern for similar treaties by other European nations trading in the Mediterranean. Typically, a Barbary peace treaty required a nation to pay "tribute" to the pirate ruler, who would then call off attacks on the nation's ships. Tribute usually took the form of a large payment of money plus annual payments. The annual payments might be cash, military supplies, or expensive presents for the ruler. A particular treaty might also include ransom money for the release of a nation's citizens held captive by the Barbary country.

About a year later, Dey Omar wrote to President Madison, proposing a renewal of the tribute treaty the United States had signed with Algiers in 1796. Madison wrote back that "the United States, whilst they wish for war with no nation, will buy peace with none." He concluded that it was the "settled policy" of the United States "that as peace is better than war, war is better than tribute."

YES WAR IS BETTER THAN TO COWAR IN FEAR FREEDOM WORTH FIGHTING FOR WHEN WILL EUROPE STOP THEIR DIMMI TAX AND STAND UP AND FIGHT FOR REAL FREEDOM YES I SPEAK OF NOT MAKING OTHERS TAKE YOUR FAILINGS??

Bravisimo, Catherine, your exhaustive knowledge of this subject is very impressive and your insightful commentary much appreciated.

I recall the law passed in the 1990s which forced the law-abiding citizens of this nation of ours to hand in their more leathal weapons. Criminals, by definition, do not abide by the law and retain their weapons. Police seize more firearms and other weapons from our streets every year.

And the less said about our laws for dealing with intruders in your home the better . . .

I believe the Federal Government of the United States of America has recorded some interesting statistics comparing the annual total of non-suicidal firearm related deaths and the number of self-defensive uses of firearms each year. I really can't be bothered looking them up again so you can google them yourselves, if you're interested.

Admittedly, a firearm does little good in the face of an unexpected car bomb or ill-gotten tactical nuke but they have their uses. Nobody is suggesting that we relax the stringent laws governing the registration of firearms and their owners.

Well said, Hugh and thankyou again, Catherine.

Where's there's smoke, there's fire. Where there's Muslims, there's "extremists".

Extremists just means Muslims who are willing to get their hands dirty, to take action, Muslims who do. So, 800 "extremists", and probably at least hundred times that number who offer support in one way or another. And another whole mob who wouldn't do anything to stop the 800. How many organised 9/11? Probably only a tenth of that.

Hopefully our anti-terrorism laws will help, but I am not going to sit back and relax. I just hope that our post-terrorism laws have some real bite to them. I'd be willing to support bringing back the death penalty for that.
