Indonesia Group Wants Discos Closed In Jakarta For Ramadan

What's that? There are non-Muslims and non-observant Muslims in Indonesia who might want to go to these discos? What are you, some kind of Islamophobe? From AP, with thanks to Twostellas:

JAKARTA (AP)--A hardline Muslim group called Sunday for the closure of all discos and other night spots in the capital during the Islamic fasting month of Ramadan, which starts in October.

"All kinds of wicked activities have to be shut down for the entire month," said Muhammad Ismail Yusanto, a spokesman for Hizbut Thahrir, a large conservative Muslim group known for organizing street rallies against the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq.

Yusanto was apparently reacting to a suggestion by Jakarta police chief Maj. Gen. Firman Gani that discos and other nightspots would only be closed on the first and last three days of Ramadan, which is expected to begin Oct. 5.

Yusanto, however, promised that his group would not take the law into its own hands as some other Muslim groups have done over the years.

"We can only call for the closure. We leave it up to the government and bureaucracy," Yusanto said. "But the government should be more creative in preparing temporary jobs for those affected by the closure."

Not yet, perhaps. It is just a matter of time for bombs go off in some random disco in Jakarta.

"All kinds of wicked activities . . . "

And the government should foot the bill for all of this as well. How exactly does a disco or nightclub affect somebody who is doing all that feasting, fasting and praying anyway?

After the Maluku and Sulawesi bobmbings (May '05), The Karaoke club shootings in Ambon (Feb '05), The widespread shootings in the months following the Australian Embassy bombing in Jakarta (Sept '04), The Palu Church attack and Jemaah Islamiah's intimidation murder there two months earlier (May & Jul '04), The widespread killings in Ambon (Apr May '04), The Karaoke cafe bombing in Palopo (Jan '04), The suspicious Wamena attacks (Apr '03), The Sari Night Club bombing in Bali (Oct '02) along with the bombings of various McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken Outlets and scores of shooting and machete attacks on Christians, Hindus and Buddhists . . . the Indonesian Muslim community has set a pretty clear example of what happens when they don't get their way and people persist in keeping up their "wicked activities."

The message, for all of Muhammad Ismail Yusanto's fine speechmaking, remains: Do as we say or else . . .

It used to be that all shops in the UK had to close at Christmas and Easter. Nobody complained then. Of course, that's just a few days, while Ramadan is a month. But Muslims don't make the rules, that was done for them. So really I don't mind that a majority Islamic state wants to observe Islamic holidays. Of course that doesn't mean I want to live there. I like infidel democracy and this is one example of why we need to keep Sharia out.

And soon they`ll get more strident.

Every now and then, one reads a sensational news report about religious authorities raiding some night club or storming a house, catching Muslims in the act of some form of "indecent" behaviour.

It was recently reported how about 100 Muslim patrons of a popular night club in the city were harassed by about 50 officials from the Federal Territory Islamic Department (better known by its Malay acronym, Jawi).

Sometime after midnight on the day in question, it was reported, Jawi officers made an announcement over the club's speaker system instructing non-Muslims to proceed to one section of the club "to enjoy themselves", while the Muslims were told to form two separate groups, men and women.

Those arrested were ordered to crouch down on the ground, herded into a caged space on a lorry, then driven off to a detention centre at the Jawi headquarters. In news reports, those arrested said the Jawi officers were rude, abusive and acted like thugs.

The Jawi raid sparked outrage among more moderate and progressive Muslims, and also raised fears among non-Muslims about "creeping Islamisation" of Malaysian life, affecting not just Muslims.

You don't want to live there, fine. but they are coming to live with you. Every day, there are more of them asserting themselves.

In Indonesia, first they killed the Chinese merchants, burned their businesses, raped their women. The churches have been burning for the last 50 years, at least, and the Christians attacked.

Timor was illegally occupied after the Portuguese pulled out and when Australia stepped in to stop them from physically eliminating everyone- against- Mohammedan rule they wrecked the place entirely, razed it to the ground.

The majority of Indonesians want peace, but they have no argument with those who claim to hear a calling from Allah.
And so it all turns to s#*t, a great big Islamic pile of it.
