Islamic group in secret plan to recruit UK students

Jihad in Britain update. "Islamic group in secret plan to recruit UK students: Revealed: how 'banned' militants are going under cover on British campuses," from The Independent, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

A leading radical Islamist group which Tony Blair wants to ban is recruiting "vulnerable" young Muslim students at British universities under several cover names, The Independent on Sunday can reveal.

Hizb ut-Tahrir, banned from campuses by the National Union of Students, has set up front organisations at more than a dozen universities with innocuous-sounding names such as the Ideological Society, the Millennium Forum and the New World Society.

They have secured access to freshers' fairs across the country and will receive funding from student unions to help them operate. Muslim student leaders warned that Hizb would target "vulnerable" young Muslims when the new university term starts later this month.

"Before, we could stop the recruitment; we could save vulnerable people," said Faisal Hanjra, a spokesman for the Federation of Student Islamic Societies. "Now, we have no idea who is targeting whom." Hizb failed to respond when approached for comment.

News of the plan by the militant Hizb to set up front organisations comes as police and intelligence agencies scrutinise a videotape which associates al-Qa'ida with the London suicide bombings on 7 July, in which 52 commuters died. The warning of "war" from Mohammed Sidique Khan, the presumed leader of the bombers, has emphasised the danger that other British-born Muslims will be recruited for terrorism.

And, surely, British Muslims will be shocked, shocked at this unbelievable development.

I am afraid that I really don't believe the comments by Faisal Hanjra, "moderate" student leader who had no idea of how to reach the first year students recruited by the radical Muslim groups. As has been said so often on JW, if most Muslims living in the West are peaceful and moderate, the radical Muslim student groups will have little or no success at the British universities. Of course, that is not really the case, and British non-Muslims have much to worry about, on their university campuses, as well as on their buses, trains and elsewhere.

I note the usual threat/blame game being played here.

If only they were not driven "underground", none of this would be happening. When it happens again it will be all your fault!!

What bullshit!

Boy, I think the Brits will really crack down on them this time -- maybe they'll cut off their noon tea or something harsh like that...

Magdi Allam pointed out in the Corriere della Sera of 13 July 2005 that the British govt had two years warning after two British citizens of Pakistani origin came to Tel Aviv in Israel to perpetrate terrorist massacres. Yet, according to Allam, only superficial measures were taken. One of the worst jihad inciters in Britain, Omar Bakri, was allowed to keep on preaching his hate against "Jews and Crusaders." Moreover, Allam reports, Bakri and his many children were living on the dole. Now, Bakri was not British-born, so they could probably have taken his citizenship away, if he had citizenship. But they left him free. I understand that since 7-7 Bakri has left Britain without being formally deported.
In light of all this, the British govt has been very remiss in protecting its own people. There is a very fitting saying in the Talmud about this situation:
Those who are merciful to the cruel end up by being cruel to the merciful.

I am just waiting for the day the strange and unholy alliance between the radical left on these campuses and Islam to crack and see what comes crawling out of the woodwork. Only one organisation had the guts to stand up to these Islamist bullies recently and that was the National Union of Students over a proposed speech on a British campus by Tariq Ramadam.
