IN the past 12 months, influential Islamist jihadist websites have carried an increased discussion on the ethics and strategy of using weapons of mass destruction as part of the global terror campaign. In the week when state and federal governments in Australia have announced tougher rules to monitor and restrict possible and suspected terrorists, we have to take this discussion very seriously.The Western policy-makers who deal with this do so cautiously. Virtually nobody in authority is being alarmist. But it is the WMD, especially the nuclear, dimension that raises terrorism from the spectrum of gruesome criminality through sustained insurgency and up to genuine strategic threat.
In an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal two weeks ago Prime Minister John Howard, in expressing bitter disappointment at the UN's failure to do anything serious about nuclear non-proliferation, noted that "al-Qa'ida has made no secret of its ambitions to acquire -- and to use -- WMD".
The authoritative discussion of this option among several key religious figures in the global jihadist network should give us serious pause. Former foreign minister Gareth Evans, now head of the International Crisis Group, while acknowledging the real dangers, was this week urging caution and restraint in our response to terrorism.
But his words on nuclear terrorism were sobering: "We know very well how limited our capacity is, and always will be, to deny access to terrorist groups to chemical and especially biological weapons. But the same is true of nuclear weapons."
He spoke of the "stockpiles of fissile material that litter the landscape of the former Soviet Russia, and after the exposure in Pakistan we know far more than we did about the global market for nuclear technology, materials and expertise, and all of it is alarming ... the level of technical sophistication required to make a nuclear explosive device is certainly above the backyard level but it is not beyond competent professionals ... and there is enough [highly enriched] uranium and plutonium lying around now to make some 240,000 such weapons. Much of it -- particularly in Russia -- is not just poorly but appallingly guarded."

The 'possibility' of nuclear terrorism is not the issue.
The use of nuclear weapons or other WMD by jihadists, muhajediin, Muslims, working in loosely affiliated groups toward a common goal: the destruction of Infidel societies and the domination of Islam, that is the problem.
And some groups, like so-called 'al Qaeda' have already committed themselves to acquiring and delivering these weapons in a jihad that rages as we speak.
Nuclear jihad is the problem and it is not possible but actual; the commitment exists, only the means is in question.
I believe it was Netyanahu who said that the West has the means but not the will to fight the Islamists; whereas the Islamists have the will but not (yet) the means to fight the West. Imagine what we will be up against if the Islamists have the means (e.g. nuclear weapons) as well!
The Jihad is doing just fine without any use of a WMD. In fact, the use of a WMD by a Jihadi, will bring about a complete reversal of the appeasement policies of the West. Any use of WMDs is counter-productive to the success of the Jihad.

Razdan brought up what he thinks Netanyahu said about the West having the means but not the will to destroy the Islamic threat, and this was summed up by Winston Churchill when he wrote:

The U.K. and U.S. should use tactical nukes on the Pakistani and Afghan borders immediately. We should isolate Ben Lauden to the nearest 1,000, 10,000 or 100,000 square miles. Demand the surrender of all. Process carefully. After allowing those that want to surrender to surrender,tactically nuke. Continue decimating areas until he or his supporters are either captured, killed or turned over. Israel has played through these scenarios. Target your killings and build a big fence (like the villagers did to protect themselves from Kong).

Nagin's Cops Trained by Farrakhan Deputy
When New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin briefed Nation of Islam chief Louis Farrakhan about damage to the city's levees in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, it wasn't the first time the Louisiana Democrat had reached out to the racially polarizing black leader.
In June, the Bayou Buzz reported that Nagin's police department hired Farrakhan deputy Dennis Muhammad to conduct "sensitivity training" sessions for New Orleans' cops after a rise in "anti-police" sentiment in the city.
In an item picked up by the Drudge Report, Police Chief Eddie Compass explained that "members of the Nation of Islam have some type of relationship" with the community and might be able to help ease tensions.

UN Expert: Bird Flu Could Kill 150 Million People

A top U.N. health official has been named to organize a campaign aimed at preventing a worldwide avian flu pandemic in humans. The official has repeated a warning from scientists that the flu virus could mutate and spread across the globe.
Dr. David Nabarro of the World Health Organization (WHO) says bird flu could spread to humans at any time, killing anywhere from five million to 150 million people.
Dr. Nabarro is one of WHO's top public health experts. He was named Wednesday to lead a global effort to head off an outbreak of the virus, which has killed more than 60 people in four Asian nations in the past two years.

Florida tourists warned that locals could shoot them

29 dead as Darfur refugee camp attacked for first time

TWENTY-NINE people were reported killed in an unprecedented attack on a refugee camp in the north-west of the Sudan region of Darfur, the United Nations said yesterday.
According to initial reports, the Aro Sharow camp was attacked by between 250 and 300 "armed Arab men on horses and camels" late on Wednesday, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) said in a statement.
Another ten people were reported to have been seriously wounded and the nearby village of Gosmeina was also believed to have been attacked and burned. The death toll referred only to camp-dwellers.

Russian Muslims intend to raise the question of introducing a vice president post to have their own representative in the Russian government, head of the Muftis Council Ravil Gainutdin was quoted by Ekho Moskvy radio as saying.
Such an official will be needed if “the number of Muslims in Russia increases at the current pace, while the demographic situation changes for the worse,” Gainutdin said.
In his opinion, Muslims deserve to have their interests “represented on the highest level.”
However, the major Russian mufti said the country currently does not need a so-called chief mufti with the same power as the Orthodox patriarch. But an organization that will unite Russian Muslims would be worthwhile, Gainutdin said.

JTF, I think you've about got it, except that the means is not in question. The means exists, but it might not yet be in the hands of the committed. In any event, I also hope that our submarines have already re-programmed their missles to blanket Iran with a MIRVed array, with a special delivery to Mecca and Medina.
The problem is that unless we are hit by a missle that NORAD can track to a country of origin, we will not know where to retaliate.
In the meantime, our family has watched the disaster preparations (and lack thereof) for the recent hurricanes that have hit the Louisiana and Texas coasts. We have gone through the drills, and have compared notes with our friends who fled, and with those who stayed. We have watched the panic buying and the flight.
Our family has done this quite consciously in light of the threat of nuclear terror. We have been repeatedly told by politicians, commission chairmen, researchers, disaster officials, etc., that the big one is coming. And, of course, we are told very frankly by our enemies, too. Why should we stupidly ignore these warnings?
We recognize that we probably will not have time to avoid the blast and initial gamma radiation if we are close to ground zero. However, we can plan for serious radioactive fallout, as a terrorist blast will probably be a ground burst.
So. . . The hurricane was a nice drill for us. We are pleased with the preparations we have already made. Plenty of drinking water has been kept at hand for months. Food supplies are stocked, shelf-lives are watched, and items are rotated through the pantry to the table. Our policy is store what you eat, and eat what you store. One benefit of our stocking policy is that it is done when items are on sale, and the money saved is like a tax-free investment.
If I know that we will use fifty cans of something in a year, I will buy a six month's supply on sale. Flashlights and extra batteries are kept on hand. Our medical kit is being assembled over time with the goal of reasonable self-sufficiency, not just first aid. Sutures, oxygen tank, etc.
My wife insists on never letting the gasoline fall below the half-way mark. Never. We realize that flight is unlikely, and that shelter-in-place is almost always going to be the right response. Nevertheless, cars are stocked with good maps, small tools, extra oil, etc.
The military frequency radios will be sold as too bulky and expensive to maintain and to shield from electromagnetic pulse. Their replacements are being identified.
Sanitation is a huge problem. It takes some forethought to handle that. (This seems to be the one area where the Koran may come in handy)
I have no doubt that unless we get a lot more aggressive in this war, the muslims will bring it closer to us. Small-arms attacks after a nuclear blast are not out of the question. Of course, at the first sign of trouble, the authorities will halt all sales of firearms and ammunition. Therefore, stocks of ammo are built for defense and for barter. Civil insurrection of a criminal nature can be expected as have-nots panic, so not all potential trouble would come from terrorists or their sympathizers.
We are not yet fully prepared, which bothers me. But I know what to do, and that helps give me confidence. It also makes me very sad, because when you make the "quality decison" to counter the threat at the personal level, you begin to truly see how many people fail to understand that they are under attack.

The events of September 11, 2001 shocked the United States out of its complacency concerning its invulnerability. Even though the U.S. has the most powerful military machine on earth, it might be of little avail; it seems that a new type of war will be fought. A war that will need resolve, years of effort, and new tactics.
This is not the first conflict in which America has faced such deprivations against life and property. There was another time when it was determined that diplomacy would not only be futile, but humiliating and in the long run disastrous. A time when ransom or tribute would not buy peace. A time when war was considered more effective and honorable. And, a time when war would be fought, not with large concentrations of military might, but by small bands peopled with individuals of indomitable spirit.
Almost 180 years ago our infant country attacked Tripoli under circumstances that are eerily similar to contemporary times. That conflict, immortalized in the Marine Corps Hymn, "From the Halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli" called the Tripolitan War or the Barbary Pirate War, came shortly after we gained our independence from England. The United States chose to fight the pirates of Barbary, rather than pay tribute, as did all the other nations who traded in the Mediterranean Sea. The decision was bold, but the eventual victory by the tiny United States Navy broke a pattern of international blackmail and terrorism dating back more than one hundred and fifty years.
The Barbary States was a collective name given to a string of North African seaports stretching from Tangiers to Tripoli. These ports were under the nominal control of the Ottoman Empire,

Well, I really don't know. But maybe we haven't recognized a jihadi action as such. There were the snipers in the DC area. Malvo and company shooting people from the trunk of their car. He had converted to islam. Then there was the Egyptian that shot up the El Al Airline counter in Los Angeles. He was a muslim. Then there were the Lodi guys. And Al Arian. And lots of indictments for aiding terrorism. Jose Padilla is never referred to in the press by his adopted muslim name, is he? Why is that?
But the FBI (and BATF, DEA, and others) are doing a good job of interdicting a lot of characters before they can act.
One of the most informative actions, I think, was the arrest of the lawyer accused of helping the Madrid bombers. FBI said that his fingerprints matched some found on a piece of luggage. I told some friends at the time that I thought the arrest was a fishing expedition. Look at the lawyer's files, computer hard drive, then say "Oops, sorry. We didn't find anything. You can go." That's the way it worked out. FBI got their information and went away.
The FBI is interesting to work with. They are like vacuum cleaners. Everything gets sucked up and nothing comes out. Give them a piece of paper and you will never see it again. Even if they promise to give it back. Always give them a copy, never an original (unless they subpoena something, of course).
I have contacted them a couple of times with leads to crimes. And after 9/11 I called them with some information that suddenly started to look important. A previous client, who was an airline flight attendant, had her uniform and identity cards and cockpit keys stolen from her car while she was jogging in the park. She never treated this as a big deal, but you can damn well believe I spent an hour on the phone with the FBI one evening, right after 9/11.
But for all the good some of our agencies do, I am appalled and angered at Bush's neglect of the illegal alien invasion taking place down here. He thinks that North America should be borderless. This is setting us up for a real disaster. Drugs and illegal aliens are coming out of Mexico. And assault weapons are going into Mexico. There is open drug warfare in the Mexican border towns. It is only a matter of time...
I hope we never have the terrorist hit that would make me have to use all the stuff I have stored. I would rather just continue to eat my way through the inventory, and make some noise with the guns. But I don't think enough people are aware of the jihad threat to make the government do something about it. Look how hard it is to reach a consensus on ANYTHING, much less actually DO SOMETHING TO SOMEONE. (Oh, horrors, we might violate their religious rights!! The only religion the left gives a damn about is islam, have you noticed?)
One of these days the Storm is going to come. It will make Katrina and Rita look like picnics in the park. Can you imagine the chaos when two hundred thousand people try to flee the fallout zone, stuck in traffic and irradiated at 100 or 200 or 500 Rads per hour by the radioactive dirt that drifted down on the tops of their cars? When they start throwing up it's already too late.
Better be ready to fend for yourself.

Just a few discussions about the use of nuclear jihad, so far, but that's all it takes. You don't need every Muslim advocating it and talking about it day in and day out. Saw a documentary on 9/11 recently. The whole idea of using planes to hit buildings was a mere discussion between a couple of Muslims a few years prior. It's not like they have any other purpose or goal in their hate-filled, impotent lives. I wouldn't be surprised if there were thousands of them gleefully plotting and planning the logistics of such a reprehensible action, especially since they've "received the necessary endorsement to do so from an Islamic point of view."
