Ohio mall jihadist pretended to be mentally ill

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Mental health experts who examined a Somali man accused of plotting to bomb a shopping mall have concluded he was faking when he became a wild-eyed defendant who tapped his head on a table, mumbled and giggled in court.
Documents made public last week from two analysts at the Federal Medical Center in Rochester, Minn., said Nuradin Abdi was pretending to be mentally ill.

Abdi told psychiatrists that Hillary Rodham Clinton and Teresa Heinz Kerry would represent him in his terrorism trial.

He sometimes refused to shower, or he showered with his clothes on. Although a devout Muslim, he tore up a copy of the Quran and shoved the pieces into a toilet.

"We believe such behaviors were calculated attempts to appear severely mentally ill," forensic psychologist Andrew Simcox and staff psychiatrist Daniel Shine Jr. said in their report....

Abdi's attorneys have sought to bar statements he made to authorities in which he admitted to falsifying immigration documents and planning to blow up a Columbus-area shopping mall....

Federal agents arrested Abdi on Nov. 28, 2003, after convicted al-Qaida operative Iyman Faris told them Abdi suggested shooting up a shopping mall....

Officials said Abdi went from a model prisoner to one who abused himself, failed to communicate appropriately and had to be watched.

Simcox and Shine said Abdi had reason to feign mental illness, to avoid being tried on charges that could send him to prison for decades.

They said Abdi had no history of mental illness, that the onset of the symptoms was convenient, that the symptoms didn't match those of legitimate illness and _ though Abdi was not cooperative _ testing didn't support a finding of mental illness.

That wasn't a Catholic bishop -- it was: "Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, a former chief rabbi and the spiritual leader of the ultra-Orthodox Shas movement". He seems to be a wacko.

However, as we know, for every ONE rare oddball we might have among Jewish or Christian leaders, there have been HUNDREDS among the Muslim clergy.

We know that this is the opinion of a few, not of Jews in general. Christianity has their doom-sayers too. It just doesn't affect me...the stories about cannibalism and bombing the levee bother me, outright lies bother me.

There are definitely more muslim wackos. But there are also more muslim people. Out of a small Jewish population of 5 million people, Israel seems to have quite a few wackos. There are 200 times more people in the muslim world than Israel. Are there 200 times more wackos? Probably. It seems like about the same percentage wise.

Christianity is not known for wackos as much but there are a few Christian wackos too but lower in percentage terms than both Muslims and Jews.

We're quite sure that God did not send Hurricane Katrina to wipe out New Orleans because He's pissed off about disengagement. This puts us on the opposite side of the argument as Stan Goodenough, Rabbi Lazer Brody, and Rabbi Ovadia Yosef.
Of course, the two rabbis were mercilessly ridiculed by the Jewish and Israeli public and press, while Goodenough was flamed so thoroughly that he had to promptly apologize:
