Los Angeles's police chief dismissed as "just rhetoric" a taped threat by a purported al-Qaida member that was aired by ABC News on the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks."Yesterday, London and Madrid. Tomorrow, Los Angeles and Melbourne, Allah willing," the masked man says on the tape that ABC said it received Saturday. The man — believed to be an American — speaks in unaccented English.
"And this time, don't count on us demonstrating restraint and compassion," he says on the tape, aired Sunday on ABC's "Good Morning America."
The network said the tape had been delivered to ABC in Pakistan. The man on the 11-minute tape, wearing a black turban with most of his face covered, called the attacks of four years ago "blessed events" before making the threats against the U.S. and Australian cities.
ABC said the man is believed to be Adam Yahiye Gadahn, an American from California who is wanted by the FBI. The CIA said Sunday it was aware of the report but had no immediate comment about the tape's authenticity.
Counter-terror officials believe Gadahn also may be the person on a 75-minute video given to ABC News last year in Pakistan. That tape was later deemed authentic.
Los Angeles Chief William Bratton said officials were aware of no clear threat to the city and didn't see the tape as significant.
"At this juncture, we feel it's just rhetoric," Bratton told NBC's "Today.""He is a low-level operative. They put him out front during the national election and used him in a similar fashion."
These rodents got their sucker punch in on 9/11/01. Since then, we have had to endure CAIR's bullshit name calling, and witness hundreds of arrests and convictions of Muslim criminal/terrorists inside our borders.
There will be no more free passes. Our government officials, namely the State Department and others, are a lost cause.

I guess I'm just not as clever as Bratton (or gullible) but when someone is laying the facts on the table, it's not rhetoric, it's the truth.

It can be all BS about calling LA and Melbourne targets, that's not the point. Adam is giving us a very clear indication of what their intentions are, what their mindset is and what they plan to do to achieve their goals.
But at least Bratton watched the tape. Ragin Nagin took off to buy a house for his family in Dallas, apparently not having the time to "protect and serve" NOLA.
If the idea behind terrorism - "striking fear into the hearts of the unbelivers" - is to make us give up, they have miscalculated horribly. I wish they would come out of hiding and face us man-to-man.

It is interesting to see, once again, how all al Qaida messages and activity passes through Pakistan. Can there be any doubt anymore, that Pakistan is the center of the jihadi problem w/ funding coming from S.Arabia? We can't do much about S. Arabia, since I am convinced that S. Arabia has more power over us then us over them. That's why Bush has to bend over backwards to appease the Saudis all the time. But what about Pakistan? We should apply more pressure there! We have them b/w a rock and a hard place and we should continue to squeeze. Every new F16 donated to Pakistan should be followed with twice as much pressure.

The LAPD'S Chief Bratton is certainly nobody's fool. Whether Gadahn's threats are more than Islamist sabre rattling or not, the city let alone the County of Los Angeles works, and explores continious ways to combat the threat of terrorism.
The City and the County of Los Angeles under Sheriff Leroy Baca represent the largest expanse of area of any major metropolitan area in the country with over 8,000 square miles. There are some nearly 50 cities within the County of los Angeles including the City of Long Beach which is the 33rd largest city in the US. --Long Beach represents the city with the largest sea port on the west coast -- the Port of Long Beach.
Whatever Gadahn says is certainly not ignored but most law enforcement leaders recognise that there will eventually be another attack in the US. Bratton, a former New York Commissioner saw the truma of 9-11 first hand and i doubt that he will ever let his guard down.
Please correct me if I'm wrong: Didn't I (recently) read here at JW that the Nation of Islam was courting the Bloods and Crips to enter into an alliance (w/the NOI) to attack the LAPD? When does THAT (short lived) jihad start?

I HAVE A MESSAGE FOR MR. BRATTON:
It is entirely possible that the horrific 1992 riots that took place in LA in 1992 (and killed at least 60 people) were al-Qaeda related. No one, we can be sure, is going to bother investigating this, just as no one bothered to investigate a possible (and indeed now known to be existing) Middle East connection with the Oklahoma City bombing-- and again in just the same way few US authorities bothered to investigate warnings of a Middle Eastern threat to the United States during the 1990s. The United States' law enforcement officials have a very poor record in handling terrorism threats to their country--and the Islamic underworld knows it too.
When someone promises they are going to murder someone (in this case Americans and Austrlians) they should be believed and taken very seriously.
Issuing 'rhetoric' of your own concerning terrorists' threats could result in the terrorist thugs at large believe they are smarter than you are--and attack in a surge of over-confidence. It would be better to say NOTHING at all.
After all, it IS possible that al-Qaeda may have attacked Los Angeles once before. Even if no one in the US law enforcement community bothers to look into it.
When your enemy says he is going to attack and kill you, surely you have the right and indeed the obligation, if you value yourself your family and friends and community, TO HUNT HIM DOWN.

Whenever a plane crashes under mysterious circumstances (which has happened alot lately), our leaders immediately announce that it was definitely not terrorism even before the smoke clears.
Whenever a chemical plant explodes or an explosives-laden 18-wheeler disappears, we don't know what just happened but it is definitely not terrorism.
Whenever the jihadists themselves announce they are going to strike again, our leaders immediately discount their statement as just bluff and bluster.
Whenever the jihadists use quotes from the Qur'an to justify their actions and motivate their legions, our leaders blandly counter that "Islam is the religion of peace".
Whenever the jihadists take credit for their attacks, our leaders disagree, saying that it was "Baathist loyalists" or a "separatist movement" or "a mob of anti-social malcontents", etc.
Their attempt to avoid alarming the public is not leadership, it is dangerous self-deception. They are leading us down a dangerous road with blinders on.

When will our government issue a flat-out warning that any attacks on us that are believed to be committed by Jihad terrorists will result in mass bombing of Muslim lands and extinction of many, many Muslim lives? These tapes and warnings all come from Pakistan and Osama’s believed to be hiding there, so how long before we flatten those mountains they love hiding like vermin in?

Seriously, threatening the place where all of this bile comes from (Pakistan, namely) would be a good way of lighting a fire under the butts of those in charge there, letting them know we mean business. When have they ever showed us restraint and compassion? We show much more restraint and compassion than those who attack us.
