Andrew Rowe, who underwent an "intense" conversion to Islam a few years back, has been convicted of "having articles for use in terrorism." Where and when did he learn that his new religion commanded him to do violence? Who taught him? Why didn't some members of the Vast Majority of Moderate Muslims take him aside and tell him he was going down the wrong path? Andrew Rowe update: "Terror conviction for tunnel man," from the BBC, with thanks to Charles Martel:
A British Muslim convert detained at the Channel Tunnel in October 2003 has been found guilty of two charges of having articles for use in terrorism.Andrew Rowe, 34, was convicted for having instructions on using a mortar, and secret code on a piece of paper.
The jury could not reach a verdict on a third charge of having articles for use in terrorism relating to socks with traces of explosives on them.
Rowe, from Maida Vale, west London, had denied the charges....
Hand-written instructions on how to fire a mortar and the secret code were found at addresses in London and Birmingham linked to Rowe.
The code substituted names of mobile phones for words including money, trouble-police, weapon, airport and army base, prosecutor Mark Ellison said.
There were also codes for explosive materials, making it a "shopping list for terrorism", Mr Ellison said.
He also said Rowe had travelled extensively after converting to Islam, including to places of conflict, and had had four passports in seven years.
Rowe told the court he had converted to Islam at the age of 19 in a bid to alter his lifestyle after taking and selling drugs.
Rowe told the court he had converted to Islam at the age of 19 in a bid to alter his lifestyle after taking and selling drugs.
So he altered his lifestyle from drugs to terrorism? That's an improvement?
And those poppies being grown in Afghanistan by Muslims aren't being sold for drugs? What else can they be used for. That IS selling drugs.
You know you CAN not take and sell drugs, not drink, dress modestly, etc. without being a muslim. Most "western people" do that all the time. It's called common sense.
Another adherent to the religion of peace.
Cat Stevens can pray with him.
Daniel Machover can take his brief.
Sir Iqbal Socranie can explain what really happened.
Why did the authorities bother arresting him?
We may as well have waited until he travelled to the next Jihad & totalled him there.
Lets face it, he is going to get less than 15 years in prison, & 15 years will be the maximum sentenced allowed by EUrabia. This is no deterent for those who think about fighting a war over several centuries.
How many prison conversions will he achieve?
No way to get over drugs than Islam? No possibilities other than the Total Regulation of Life?
Anybody know what the maximum penalty for having two pieces of naughty paper (one with instructions, one with some weird "secret code" on it) in his possession?
Does anyone doubt he'll soon join the Guantanamo recidivists on the jihadi battlefield (otherwise known as our homes, buses, planes, trains, restaurants, etc.)?
Great op-ed from Julie Burchill on British Muslims

And in a similar case today, a man described as being of 'asian appearance' was tasered in Manchester Airport after breaching security and running with a briefcase onto the airfield.

He is being held under the Mental Health Act :o)
Someone somewhere I guess be keeping a list of crazy individuals who just happened to be Mohammedans.
Watch out for Mohammad Yousuf aka Yousuf Youhana. I bet he will be carrying a suicide mission soon.
This is OT but I think this item will be of most interest to those who are also concerned about the main story.
I have been taking a particular interest in the court martial of the 7 paras currently on trial for the alleged murder of an Iraqi. I have posted links to reports of the trial on JW already over the last week or two. If you remember the evidence is flimsy to say the least. None of the villagers can identify the soldiers but this was the only British unit anywhere near the area. The body of the dead man was buried quickly (in accordance with usual custom considering the heat) and the family will not have him exhumed so that proper foresnic tests can be made. However, (and this is the bit which flabbergasted me, as it would never have lead to prosceution in a civilian court)the family provided a blood sample and a trace of blood on one mans rifle matched the general DNA of the family. In a culture which has practised first cousin marriage for centuries I would have thought that would have matched the entire province.
Anyway this item from The Times shows how much those witnesses who have travelled to England have been paid for their trouble, and how unreliable their evidence is.

Mrs Rishek went on to accept that she had pretended to have been beaten by the soldiers when interviewed by military police.
She told the court martial: “They did not injure me. They did not beat me.”
She agreed that she had pretended to a doctor that she had been injured by soldiers, but told the court that in telling lies it had not been her intention to obtain money.
Mr Tedd said: “Your word when you promised to tell the truth is worth nothing, is it?” She replied: “Correct.”
