Dutch arrest seven in anti-terror sweep

Still reeling from the brutal murder of artist/director Theo Van Gogh, the Dutch authorities today carried out a series of raids across three major cities, arresting seven suspects in an effort to prevent apparently imminent terrorist attacks. The suspects appear -- at first glance -- to match the profile of the disaffected young Muslim immigrant which has begun to concern some European leaders, per the Guardian:

Dutch authorities today detained six men and a woman in a series of anti-terror operations across three cities, officials said.

Police declined to confirm reports in the Dutch media of gunfire being heard during one of the operations in the capital, The Hague.

Security has been stepped up around government offices in the capital.

The suspects, ranging from 18 to 30 years old, were detained in The Hague, Amsterdam and Almere. Officials said they would be brought before an investigating judge on Monday.

Today's security operation comes a day after media reports of renewed threats against MPs Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders, who are both outspoken critics of radical Islam.

The two politicians had to go into hiding for several months after Van Gogh's murder

The Dutch, however, still appear hamstrung by a court system which fails to deal effectively with Islamic militants:

Officials said the chief suspect held in the anti-terror raids was Samir Azzouz, a 19-year-old Dutch national of Moroccan descent who was acquitted of terrorism charges earlier this year.

Mr Azzouz was allegedly in the process of purchasing automatic weapons and explosives, "probably to carry out an attack with others on several politicians and a government building," a prosecution statement said.

"acquitted of terrorism charges earlier THIS year.." and

"allegedly in the process of purchasing automatic weapons and explosives,.."

A simple case of an impressionable youth running with the wrong crowd? Not my first choice for an explanation.

I think what is more telling is the fact that for whatever reason; arrogance, fervor, sureness of cause/purpose, this guy didn't even lay low for a while. He apparently wasn't shaken by his close call with the Dutch authorities. How many Gitmo alumni have been killed or recaptured doing nasty little things to infidels or muslims who just happened to be the wrong flavor? He is part of something truly relentless.

Juggernaut is the correct description. A turbaned juggernaut bearing down on all who oppose the Quranic Directives.

Moroccans and Algerians are being arrested in Europe more often these days. Many Jihadists are spawned there, then onward to Europe to torment the enervated Euros. It's the Muslim way of irredentism and lebensraum. They want more turf for their burgeoning populations and Europe looks ripe for the picking

Samir Azzouz will get away from justice this time too.

Last time, the caught him with equipment to make a bomb and plans for Parliament, Schiphol International Airport in Amsterdam, the nuclear plant in Borssele, the building of the AIVD (the Dutch FBI/CIA) and a lot of Jihadist literature, his last will (claiming he had chosen to die a martyr), et cetera, et cetera.

Now, this would sound to any normal person as if young Samir (raised and educated at Dutch' tax payers' expense) was indeed about to commit at least one act of terrorism.

Not to the Dutch judge, who in his ruling said:
1) Since Samir Azzouz had many maps of several locations, it could not be established which one he'd choose
2) For his bomb, he had purchased the wrong type of fertilizer (google for IRA to learn more about bomb making with fertilizer) so it wouldn't have worked anyway.

At the same time, after Van Gogh's murder, a native Dutchmen got so incensed, he built himself a molotov cocktail and headed for the next Mosque. Once at the Mosque, he figured it'd be unwise to set it ablaze and he drove on. Minutes later, he was held up by police for a routine inspection, his molotov cocktail was found and he was arrested. This (very unsmart) gentlemen was found guilty and imprisoned for three years !

When Samir Azzouz was arrested on Friday, the arrest took place in his new school, where he had just started this semester.

You may guess twice what topic he was studying....

Exactly: chemistry !

This time, he'll get off again, the Dutch tax payer will put down even more money to put him through school and someday Samir will finally get his 15 minutes of fame when he blows up some building or other and cause death and destruction.

All thanks to the smart-ass left wing judges we have in this country.
