Indonesia: jihadists attack Catholics praying rosary

Perhaps King Tolerance could have a little friendly talk with the "Islamic extremists".

So much for the myth of Islamic Tolerance! I always thought prayer at low voices (so as to not infringe upon the faithful) was permitted. It seems I was misinformed.

This is one that should be emailed out to those of you with Catholic friends and relatives. It is perhaps more poignant than garden-variety Islamic terrorism.

You might want to insert a brief intro pointing out that Indonesia is a MODERATE Islamic country and that the perpetrators of this intolerance are NOT terrorists, just devout Muslims.

If something like this doesn't hit home, nothing will.

Christians living under Islamic rule under the Caliphate were forced to paint their houses a different color so they could be easily identified. Christians were forbidden to build new churches or repair old ones. Their churches were forbidden to have bells. They could not pray or sing aloud or read aloud from the bible in case a Muslim passing by might hear their worship and be offended. A Muslim passing by their house could stay ask to stay in it for three days and had to be fed and housed by the Christian for that time for free. Christians had to stand in the presence of Muslims and remove their hats. Christians could not ride horses or walk in the same street with a Muslim. When a Muslim passed by, the non-muslim had to walk in the gutter. Christians had to wear special clothing to identify them as non-muslims. In addition the Christians had to pay a special tax, the jizya, and be struck on the head and shoulders publicly while paying it, for the "privelege" of living in Muslim controlled terroritory. Remember this: there is no freedom of religion or religious equality under Islam.

What a bunch of dark age dickweeds.

Catholics have been persecuted for years in Muslim countries. In this case, the Islamic Defender Front was not defending Islam. The "Defender Front" was clearly on the attack. Prayaing the rosary is hardly an act of aggression or hostility that warrants a violent response.

Islam is no religion of peace and tolerance. This is just another classic example that proves how intolerant Muslim societies really are in the East.

In many Muslim societies, if a Muslim converts to Christianity, he could be executed. This is coercion and manipulation at its worst which is intended to discourage Muslims from giving up the practice of Islam. Muslims have no tolerance for those who convert to another faith because they are insecure about their own faith and have to tightly control it through hatred and intimidation.

I am not inspired by this kind of faith. This seems very earthly to me and not of a divine nature. I have very little respect for Muslim socities. I don't find authentic spirituality in Islam. Instead of finding flowering virtues within Islam, I find coercion, distrust, and manipulation within its inner core.

In 1679, Aurangzeb went so far as to reimpose, contrary to the advice of many of his court nobles and theologians, the jiziya or graduated property tax on non-Muslims, and according to one historical source, elephants were deployed to crush the resistance in the area surrounding the Red Fort of Hindus who refused to submit to jiziya collectors.

The historian John F. Richards opines that "Aurangzeb's ultimate aim was conversion of non-Muslims to Islam. Whenever possible the emperor gave out robes of honor, cash gifts, and promotions to converts. It quickly became known that conversion was a sure way to the emperor's favor"

The most heinous crimes which the followers of Mohammad called as jihadis or to use a more euphemistic term, Muslims, perpetrated was on peace loving Hindus in India. The entire civilization of Hindus called as Saraswati Civilization was decapitated and reduced to dust. The depth and the scope of holocaust which befell Hindus is so staggering that common human mind fails to understand this and goes blank. Vedic India, originally called as Bharatvarsha, stretched from Afghanistan all the way to Japan. Murderous Muslims layed siege to glorious Bharatvarsha almost 1400 years ago and by treacherous and totally subhuman techniques succeeded in destruction and plunder of the greatest civilization that humanity has known so far.

In other parts of Asia and Europe, the conquered nations quickly opted for conversion to Islam rather than death. But in India, because of the staunch resistance of the 4000 year old Hindu faith, the Muslim conquests were for the Hindus a pure struggle between life and death. Entire cities were burnt down and their populations massacred. Each successive campaign brought hundreds of thousands of victims and similar numbers were deported as slaves. Every new invader made often literally his hill of Hindu skulls. Thus the conquest of Afghanistan in the year 1000, was followed by the annihilation of the entire Hindu population there; indeed, the region is still called Hindu Kush, 'Hindu slaughter'. The Bahmani sultans in central India, made it a rule to kill 100.000 Hindus a year. In 1399, Teimur killed 100.000 Hindus IN A SINGLE DAY, and many more on other occasions. Koenraad Elst quotes Professor K.S. Lal's "Growth of Muslim population in India", who writes that according to his calculations, the Hindu population decreased by 8O MILLION between the year 1000 and 1525. ...We will never be able to assess the immense physical harm done to India by the Muslim invasions. Even more difficult is to estimate the moral and the spiritual damage done to Hindu India.

Shah Jahan:

A Hindu was made to give up his Muslim wife or convert to Islam. (Kashmir is now predominantly Muslim due to Shah Jahan's policies). In 1632 he ordered that all Hindu temples recently erected or in the course of construction should be razed to the ground. In Benares alone seventy six temples were destroyed. Christian churches at Agra and Lahore were demolished. Later in the year he besieged Hugh, a Portuguese enclave, near Calcutta. The siege lasted three months. In a manner befitting the Prophet he had ten thousand inhabitants executed by being "blown up with powder, drowned in water or burnt by fire". Four thousand were taken captive to Agra where they were tortured to try to convert them to Islam. Only a few apostacised, the remainder were trampled to death by elephants, except for the younger women who went to harems.

When Mumtaz died, Shah Jahan decided that he should find her a suitable resting place in Agra. Muslim chroniclers have taught us that he had the Taj Mahal, the "Crown Residence", built for this purpose. (Shah Jahan nowhere stated this himself).

P.N. Oak2 however, says that the Taj Mahal had been built as a Shiva temple in the twelfth century and was currently being used as the palace of Rajah Jaisingh. The Hindu was evicted "legally": Shah Jahan had him sign a land transfer deed. Oak's corroboration includes carbon dating of a wooden doorway and the Hindu octagonal shape of the building. Also, despite Muslim skill at pin-pointing Mecca, the qiblah of the 'mosque' was fifteen degrees out and was, in fact, due west, a Hindu direction.

Barnabus Fund reports that in West Papua, Indonesia, the Indonesian military is destroying houses, churches and whole villages where Christians live, torturing and shooting the inhabitants. In West Java, again Indonesia, churches are being forcibly closed by muslim "extremists" at the rate of 30 a month.

So this is the thanks we get for billions of money for Indonesia in the aftermath of the tsunami. It will be the same story in Pakistan where Christians are persecuted as a matter of form.

Great set of posts and for the link. Though most at JW/DW are well aware of the depredations of islamic invaders in India, it is worthwhile that we are all reminded of what ensues when islam gets a toehold in any land.

Can't you just see the Indonesian Islamo-fascists beating on the orangs screaming at them to "pray!" Or spraying them with magazine rounds of machine gun fire?

That is if Indonesian's jihadists haven't by now cut the last of the forest trees in the islands and sold them on the black market and donated the monies appropriated to Ousamah bin Looney Tunes and Company (with the orangutans and other forest creatures left to die in the hideous wasteland Indonesia has become...).

Deliver us from Islam!

I wish they only cut down trees. they also cut off hands, feet, free thinking and generally anything that resembles progress. What a religion.

Nothing shocks me anymore, not from the human race and least of all from the Muslim world. I hasten to point out that shock and disgust are different things.

Here in Australia these guys are our next door neighbours.

But I think I already know the answer to that.

OK, here's what I want to see;
1 - Recognition that Islam is different, in both theory and practice.
2 - Adjust all relevant government policies accordingly.

I know that point 2 is far too big complicated and variable to go into here so I leave to the populations and governments that reach the enlightenment of point 1 to work that out.

Get the word out to the people, tell them the truth about Islam. Report back here at DW as to what you've found effective. What have you found to be the best way to get conversations going on the topic, what sort of point is best to make, etc.

We need to get very serious in this country and throughout the non-muslim world. We need to prompt people to ask the question: "Is it just me or is this water starting to get hotter?"
