Hugh Fitzgerald touches in today's Daily Hugh on the problem of recruitment of moderate Muslims for the jihad, and of course it is something I have emphasized repeatedly: self-proclaimed peaceful and moderate Muslims have made no effort to separate themselves from jihadists, and many times here at Jihad Watch we have chronicled the adventures of moderate Muslims who suddenly turned out to be...immoderate. Probably when they were at work at their dentistry office in Kfar Manda, these two appeared to be upstanding citizens, having carved out a good, prosperous place for themselves in Israeli society. But appearances, once again, were deceiving.

Two Israeli Arab dentists from the Galilee were arrested on suspicion of helping Hamas plan bombings in Israel, security sources revealed Sunday.The two were identified as Nazmi Hassin, 35, and A'salam Zeidan. They were arrested in September, but news of the arrest was under a gag order until last night.
According to security sources, the pair had studied dentistry in Romania in the 1990s. After being recruited into Hamas they even underwent espionage training in Turkey, linked up with a handler and carried out missions for Hamas once they returned home.
Hassin, 35, from Nazareth, told interrogators that he was trained in surveillance, intelligence collecting, encryption and clandestine activity. The training was held during a five-day period in Istanbul. Plans to send him to Iran for military training fell through because he only had an Israeli passport.
Once back in his Galilee village, Hassin helped recruit Zeidan, his partner at their dentistry office in Kfar Manda. He also passed on the names of at least three other Israeli Arabs to his Hamas contact for potential recruitment.
Zeidan, 36, told his interrogators he agreed to find safe houses for Hamas members transporting "the goods." In 1999, Zeidan traveled to Turkey for training with Hamas, that included learning how to obtain fertilizer used for making explosives, bomb assembly and transmitting orders via e-mail accounts. He also served as a courier for Hamas and delivered money to a Hamas member in Nazareth. In 2002, Zeidan met with a Hamas agent in Saudi Arabia and agreed to scout out potential crowded bombing sites in Tel Aviv. Hassin aided Zeidan in maintaining contact with their Hamas handler.

The title made me think of the "Boys From Brazil" and the torture-in-the-dental-chair scene, but I see there is a different use to which these dentists are to be put. A strange kind of relief, entirely illogical.

Well Hamlet may be on to something...dental jihad. Too terrible to contemplate. Once they get into your mouth, there's no telling what they might do. The only sensible thing to do is to beware of muslims bearing dental tools...Try not to open your mouth in their presence, you never know when Allah might start talking to them...

The impression I get from the Muslim world is largely one of decay -- something that won't be easy to brush aside -- Despite our efforts to bridge the cultural and religious divide, they make no similar efforts and show daily through their treachery and violence that they cannot palate our culture, our form of government, our religion, in short, our way of life... With the world's knowledge only partial of the Jihadi's intent to indenture the rest of us into dhimmitude, it seems like a good time to rinse away their influence and spit them back out -- They have become a serious abcess in our society, and it's time to knock a couple Muslim crowns off, cap a couple of them for good measure, and in general floss away their evil inflence from our midst...

Aha...jsla, you understand dental jihad better than I. Dont be sorry for that post. It was one of the best write-ups on dental jihad I have read. It was the only one I have read, but then we are breaking new ground here. Spensers just getting on to it, and Hugh has yet to write a comprehensive article about it. Although I'm sure thats comming. Dental Jihad, the new frontier on the war on terror.

Dentistry is a nice cover for a spy. People come and go, and return periodically for treatment. This gives cover to the couriers. Dental "treatments" take place in private, not like contacts in a store, etc.,
It was discovered during World War II that a dentist (ethnic Japanese) was making notes of ship movements and locations in Pearl Harbor and passing these on to his contacts.
