The bombs was described as being of ‘low density’, however it was reported that 7 people were injured due to the explosion outside the popular nightspot, ‘Smokey and Bunty.’ The frequently attended nightspot was literally yards away from the St. James Police station....Detectives had received information prior to Friday’s events concerning the possible threat to the Port of Spain. Cedric Neptune, President of the Police and Welfare suggested that the police were on high security alert; however he was not at liberty to disclose any further information to the press.
There have now been five arrests in connection with Friday’s bombing, one of whom is affiliated with the local militant Muslim group, otherwise known as Jaamat-al Muslimeen....
There have been a series of bomb attacks on Trinidad. The 11th July on Frederick Street, Port of Spain saw 15 causalities, 10th August on George Street showed no casualties, and 10th September only one person suffered minor injuries.
The group in question "Jaamat-al Muslimeen" was responsible for a coup attempt in Trinidad fifteen years ago.

"The Government is known to monitor closely only one religiously affiliated group, a radical Muslim organization called the Jamaat al Muslimeen, some members of which attempted a coup in 1990. The Government's surveillance has focused on the group's repeated attempts to seize control of state-owned property adjoining its central mosque and on any actions intended to incite revolt. In January 2001, a court ordered the Jamaat to pay the Government $2.5 million (TTD 15.3 million) for damage done to public buildings during the 1990 coup attempt. In May 2001, the court ruled on a counter-suit and awarded the Jamaat approximately $350,000 (TTD 2.1 million) for destruction of its facilities during the same coup. In connection with its efforts to prevent terrorist acts, the Government also monitors the rhetoric of certain independent mosques for any incitement to religiously motivated violence.
There were no reports of religious prisoners or detainees."

Trinidad was the sight, several decades ago, of the killing of a white British girl who had taken up with some Black Power enthusiasts, and who ended up on the receiving end of things. V. S. Naipaul later made that event, and the innocent idiocy of the self-immolating girl in question, the basis of a novel.
Nowadays, the preferred vehicle for those who consider themselves alienated from whatever society they live in, especially in the Western world, is Islam. You don't even have to know anything about Islam to be a "Muslim" and thereby enlist in the Army of Islam. A few simple ideas, the Enemy against which you are now permitted to fight, and whose laws you now have religious sanction to violate, and against whom your acts of theft, mayhem, and rape are now justified -- all this is available to the new recruit.
Were Naipaul to be writing about such things now, such a girl would have to be depicted as an innocent Infidel who, without knowing anything, married a Muslim, and then became more deeply implicated in things she had not known about, and did not quite believe, and as she tried in the end to get out, was killed.
An obvious plot for a thriller -- but for some strange reason all these obvious plots, so verisimilar and often true, involving Muslims, are not being used by those who make movies, or made-for-television movies.

In the year 2000 hundreds of people reportedly were found MURDERED INSIDE A CATHEDRAL in the Bahamas. For obvious reason the Bahamanian government hushed up the incident, but I saw a reference to it in the Los Angeles Times in 2001. A culprit was unnamed and the reference was intentionally vague.
However, that the killings OCCURRED INSIDE A CATHEDRAL IS A RED FLAG!
ANOTHER RED FLAG: Ousamah bin Laden's brother owned stock in a bank in the Bahamas.
Al-Qaeda groups were all over nearby Florida at that time...perhaps another red flag?
Several people have told me off the record that they believed al-Qaeda was behind this terrible event. It certainly appears to have been Islamic-perpetrated (I mean, mass murder inside a cathedral in the BAHAMAS???).
I think a major investigation should be launched into this and other similar events that have happened such as this in Trinidad (Hugo Chavez' Communist regime may be implicated in this latest in Trinidad).

Trinidad has something else besides sun, sand and friendly jihadists. It has natural gas...huge quantities. In fact, Trinidad has become the largest supplier of LNG (liquefied natural gas) to the U.S. over the last several years. Substantial additional development is on tap.
Look at some of the more unusual places for jihadist activity over the last few years. Trinidad, southern Thailand, Angola, Ivory Coast. Newly discovered or developing energy resources are in each of them. A coincidence? Or just straightforward application of the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Islam?

Jihad in Trinidad? I get numerous readers at my blog from Trinidad, and I now have some idea why. Look at the future: When Castro finally dies we might well see the island become the first Islamic nation in the Caribbean. The end of Communism, the vacuum, the jihad to fill it. And from Cuba to the Rest of the islands, to the mainland, to Venezuela, to Brazil, to Mexico and beyond.
But I'm speculating that Cuba will be the first nation to fall to Islam in our part of the Western world. Poor, ideologically bankrupt, anti-Western, criminal, and angry at the failure of the scheme to bring about the end of history.
Haiti, too. But, if we are able to make even one nation the first to fight against jihad the way our Muslim cousins have organized their populations to fight us we might start in the Caribbean ourselves. We won't lose this fight unless we don't bother fighting it. Any place on Earth is a good place to start. But we must start soon. The wolf is at the door.
Well as far as i know Trinidad has 90% Hindu-Christian majority with 10% Muslims (All imported from India by the British during the days of the Raj)... 10% Muslims coupled with 40% African-Christian population makes a fertile ground for proselytization.
I don't know the situation off-hand today in Guyana, but years ago the make-up was roughly 45/45 Indian and Negro with the remainder being Natives and Europeans. Both Burnham and Jagan were Communist at opposite poles. The Indian population was affluent in a minor way, and the Black population was in power most of the time. I must be getting old. I don't recall any great Islamic influence there at the time. However, I suspect now that with the demise of Soviet Communism, with only Castro holding out the slender thread of hope to Chavez, with a small clique of Trotskyites in the hills, that the next current of ideological manipulation along ethnic lines will be between Muslims and the rest.
All the elements are there for the anti-Western forces to reassemble under the black flag of Islam. I don't see any great reason for the local lower class to hesitate from moving to Islam, only the political cliches need to change. And far easier too to change to Islam than to some dense and foreign German 19th century philosophy that few ever understood.
What does that leave us with? Look at Jamaica, for example, and see the impulsive behaviour of the locals, the immediacy of their actions, and-- we could go on. Islam has got to be attractive to the larger population.
Look at the possibilities of Islam spreading throughout the Caribbean and the east coast of South America. Look at Brazil going Islamic. Yes, look at London east and north.
When we consider the struggles of the peasants to adjust to the modern world from the outside in such places as Central America, and when we look at the Left insurgencies there, move on to South America and the Caribbean to see how much more likely we are to face an Islamic insurgency, wider, deeper, more intense than anything we got from the FMLN or such. Consider the appeal of Islam to the populations of the south when it's primal, violent, and family based, centered on emotional response and mass identity. Combine a usual and assumed cultural violence, an urban foraging economy, a large and soft out-group to focus ones resentment against, and a lack of socialisation outside the ghetto, and you have a lovely scenario for madness unimaginable today. Couple the insanity of impulsive violent primitivism with the intoxication of religious euphoria and racial identity. Mix in guns, extreme poverty, massive ignorance of the world outside, and a crime culture to start with. I see on oour horizon not a religion of peace tending it's jihad for the sake of personal betterment but massive trouble for anyone caught at the Club Med in a bikini.
I think the ethnic divide of Guyana will split across the south entire. Imagine Haiti gone Islamic!
Some might see this as a bad thing. Others might see it as Katrina's second coming. The end point is that there is a division coming, and there will be the drowned and the saved, as Primo Levi so wonderfully puts it. I want a front row seat, and I'll take my chances in the storm.
I am a medical student at St. George's University in Grenada, an island that neighbors Trinidad (or T'dad as our prof. calls it). I am a bit uneasy to see this going on so close to 'home' but I am really not surprised to see it happen in Trinidad. Down here, Trinidad is known for being a violent and unsafe place. I like to distract myself in the library by reading the local newspaper (they dont hold back nearly as much as we do in the states), and it is not uncommon at all to hear of a greusome murder, missing persons, or drug deals gone wrong in Trinidad. It seems to be a violent place already and I fear that it is creeping into Grenada which is stuggling to get back on its feet since hurricane Ivan decimated it about a year ago. It wont take much of a mental leap for a jihadist to see the potential of terrorizing young american students and I sincerally hope that day never comes.

You should give at least a rat's ass about oil and gas reserves. Our enemies certainly do. If you don't understand jihadist moves to disrupt/dispute non-Muslim energy resources on a worldwide basis, you're missing an important part of the story. Its probably the easiest way to compel submission of infidels...after all, it has worked well in Europe for over a generation. Bin Laden has even laid down the price ($144/bbl) he'd enforce if he controlled Arabia. Call it jizya if you like.
