Let's see. Osama bin Laden was his hero. Hmmm. We may be getting warmer. "I don't know what made my son become suicide bomber," from the Yorkshire Post, with thanks to Bryce:
THE father of Yorkshire suicide bomber Shehzad Tanweer has spoken for the first time about the "terrible act" his son committed on July 7.Mohammed Mumtaz Tanweer, 56, from Beeston in Leeds, said he and his family were still mystified by his son's motivation.
Mr Tanweer, a Pakistan-born businessman who ran South Leeds Fisheries in Beeston, was speaking after he had taken the remains of his son to Pakistan for burial last week in the family's home village.
The 22-year-old, the first bomber to be buried, killed himself and seven others when he detonated a rucksack bomb at Aldgate station.
Mr Tanweer, in his first interview since the terror attacks, said: "All the bombings and killings were awful. Only the group of four (bombers) or God alone knows why they carried out this terrible act."
He does not know how his son – who looked upon Osama bin Laden as his hero – could have become a terrorist.
"As far as I can understand, my son was more British in his orientation than anything else," said Mr Tanweer. "He has planned his career in sport. Even on the night before he died, he was playing cricket."
Why not? The idea that jihadists reject out of hand anything Western has been disproven again and again. One can play cricket and hold to the jihad ideology. It is time to realize such elementary points.
This is the brother of that uncle who was similarly completely mystified just after the bombing -- it simply made no sense, it was completely irrational. Then, as his fear of any fury dissipated, a few days or a week later, I recall, he suddenly seemed quite clear on all the reasons why his son might have felt compelled to put a bomb on the London Underground, and showed that he more than understood.
His name, and what he said, on those two occasions, escape me. As he has the attention of the British public.
Jihad is a mystical state of being that lies dormant in the Muhammedan psyche until triggered by some event or series of events in the life of the jihadi. Perhaps this chap had a bad cricket match that put him over the edge.
Cancer works this way. Our bodies produce cancer cells all the time. The immune system continuously wages a battle with the disease. Occasionally the critical mass of cancer is attained and the battle is joined. The jihadi impulse is perhaps suppressed by immersion in Western civilization. Like the body's immune system, the comforts and freedom of the West provide continuous antidote to the nihilism of the Muhammedan ideology.
But we never know when the cancer of the jihad ideology becomes a malignant body of thought in the head of the afflicted. The potential is always there, always lying in wait, always a threat to the peace, tranquility and security of the society in which they are interleaved.
"I don't know what made my son become suicide bomber". I do. The Quran. He read it and couldn't reconcile the passages commanding Muslims to "kill infidels" and "strik terror in them".
Muslims are *one reading of the qur'an away* from jihad. How many times do we read of "he was not very religious" (but he blew himself up for allah)?
Whole of Pakistan plays cricket...
Cricket in recent years has become more of a subcontinental passion rather than a British past time.
Probably helped along by some sheikh firing them up with BS about Muslims being oppressed and attacked by the West all the time. That Khalid Yasin scum we had visiting here from the US, the Afro-Yank convert, was shown on the TV at one of his talks. Going on about "perpetuated, protracted oppression", exploitation and apartheid, waving his fist, telling his listeners that 9/11 was not done by Muslims, that they're being unfairly blamed and framed, that there is a witch-hunt against Muslims, a multi-governmental conspiracy against them. Add inflamatory stuff like that to the already volatile mix, and you've got the reason for suicide bombers.
Apparently the father of this July 7th suicide bomber has no concept of jihad, or the 6th pillar of Islam.
Does he believe that there is only the "Dar al-Islam" Jihad ? Does he believe that there has never been the desire for a "Dar al-Harb" among British muslims? And yet it has always been a requirement to establish sharia law wherever it is not practiced. Many clerics, and imams argue that armed, violent jihad is a cornerstone of Islam, as did the Ayotolla Khomeini, and as does now the new President of Iran.
Where was this father? Are we to say that he never shared any thoughts or any kind of discussions of this side of Islam with his son? What an incredibel disconnect if this was the case.
The fact that this Father buried his son in a "foreign land" speaks volumes for the education & integration into the UK the homicide bomber received from his Father.
Arsehole. Must think we are all swallowing his BS.
The Father & Family should be stripped of their British Nationality, his businesses closed down & the whole family deported back to the Pakistani village they so clearly & dearly love.
At best we should be thankful the the mortal remains of this unspeakable piece of s..t is back where it belongs.
Some choice. For some, Tanweer's grave site has the potential of becoming a martyr's shrine wherever he is buried.
Mohammed Mumtaz Tanweer, 56, from Beeston in Leeds, said he and his family were still mystified by his son's motivation.
Wow, spooky isn't it? All that cricket playing must have taken a toll on him...
I agree with the others. Why do they think we'll believe any piece of crap lie that they hand us? Oh, yeah, because our government leaders do.
"As far as I can understand, my son was more British in his orientation than anything else," said Mr Tanweer. "He has planned his career in sport. Even on the night before he died, he was playing cricket."
Sounds a little like the protestations of normalcy coming from IA786. Hey, IA 786, if you're out there, can you spread the word to your friends in your community that suicide bombing is not normal? And it's always a rude surprise to the parents...of the victims.
