Another British-born Muslim, which will continue to make the learned pundits scratch their heads and wonder why someone exposed to Western culture would do such a thing. From AFP, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:
LONDON (AFP) - Police have arrested a 27-year-old man in the north of England in connection with the ongoing investigation into the July 7 bombings in London.News of the arrest followed a claim in the News of the World newspaper that it had met a British-born Muslim of Indian origin who said he had been asked to take part in the attack....
Police said the man -- who it did not name -- was arrested Saturday in the Dewsbury area of West Yorkshire "on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism".
...the learned pundits scratch their heads and wonder why someone exposed to Western culture would do such a thing.
Theodore Dalrymple, peace be upon him, had partial answer to this in a wonderful Spectator article some time ago. Western culture hates itself, and Muslims, from a more primitive culture, take its estimation of itself at face value.
This man should have been knighted for his prose style alone. Instead we have Sir Icky defending the realm.
Western self-loathing and weakness do not fully explain the Yorkshire terrorist; the explanation is mainly in the tenets of Islam itself. Nevertheless, they make us more vulnerable to the followers of primitive, aggressive doctrines, since self-doubt and self-deprecation do not effectively arm us against such people.
Anyway, I'm glad they've caught the bugger. Let's hope they pull his toenails out until he sings like a canary. That is, I hope justice will take its course and appropriate pressure will be brought to bear.
So now we have the latest pointless nonsensical wheeze from David Cameron, who has shown himself to be nothing other than a know-nothing toff, and certainly knows nothing about Islamic terrorism. In his first "big idea" yesterday, he revealed his woolly-headedness to all, as if a few months of so-called "national service to strengthen communities against terrorism" will deter terror threats. What world does Cameron live in? Certainly not the real world that we unfortunately have to share with Ayman al-Zawahri and Osama bin Laden. And what might be his idea of a community that will be targetted by terrorists? Penzance perhaps? Or Tenby? Or John O'Groats? And he opposes detaining terror suspects for 90 days - one measure that might have some effect in the war against Islamic terrorism. If OBL, Zawahri etc know about this latest Cameron wheeze, they'll laugh themselves silly in their caves, but in Cameron laa laa land, funds that desperately need to go directly into MI5, MI6, Special Branch etc, will instead be wasted on a glorified Boy Scouts gimmick, and we can just imagine if he were around in 1940, vital funds that should be channelled into the Armed Forces would probably go into the Boy Scouts instead, but we know that what might immpress 80-year-old blue rinses and the Pimms and braces brigade certainly won't impress the terrorists and their leaders.
Spirit of 1683 - have you got a link for that?
I'm not sure about Cameron either for all sorts of reasons and would prefer Davis - grammar school like me. I don't trust toffs as they can too easily turn soft out of guilt.
Interested, this story was in this mornings Metro, a free newspaper www.metro.co.uk and he made this suggestion at the Young Peoples Parliament in a response to a question on how he would tackle the terror threat to Britain. Unfortunately, those kids aren't as well up on Islam and the dangers it poses to our civilization as we are, and he said he disagreed with the Labour proposal of holding people without trial for up to 90 days. There you have it - Cameron soft on terrorism.
"Racism and poverty" made him do it...
