An update from the United American Committee on the danger signs of militant Islam, which I helped them compile:
To help facilitate solutions in confronting the Islamic extremist threat, the United American Committee releases the Nine Danger Signs of Militant Islam. A guide to help discern signs of extremism among members of the Islamic faith.LOS ANGELES - In a move to battle Islamic extremism, the United American Committee today released a list of the Nine Danger Signs of Militant Islam. Written with assistance from members of the Islamic faith, the list, primarily addressed to the Muslim community, gives signs that can be used to discern whether any given Muslim spokesman may be a sympathizer with Islamic militancy. Blatant signs of extremism include "Supporting or refusing to condemn Osama Bin Laden, Al Qaeda, Hamas, or other terrorists or terrorist organizations by name." or "Justification of any Islamic Terrorism, Palestinian or otherwise." Other danger signs listed reflect disorderly subversive acts such as a "Refusal to cooperate with or inciting others not to cooperate with authorities or standard security procedures."
Dave Holly, a UAC spokesperson, gives the following rationale for the list: "Peace-loving Muslims everywhere would agree on the need to be alert for any incitement to hate, violence, religious intolerance, or the use of outright lying. Those who do not hold extremist views should have no problem with helping to distribute fliers of the Nine Danger Signs of Militant Islam."
Requests for comment were not immediately returned from the leading American Islamic organization CAIR, the Council on American-Islamic Relations. However, all communication with CAIR regarding the signs has indicated their objection to it for unknown reasons. "We don't know why anyone would object to these signs. Each sign is a logical indication of extremist behavior," remarks Jesse Petrilla, Founder & Chairman of the United American Committee, the primary organization responsible for drafting the nine signs. "We've even included input from American Muslims while writing the list of danger signs," says Petrilla.
A large fear of more moderate Muslims is reflected by the danger sign of "Branding progressive Muslims or Muslims of different opinions as apostates." as was suggested by one Muslim-American contributor to the Nine Signs. 1. Justification of any Islamic Terrorism, Palestinian or otherwise

An excellent start! I personally would have included the last item of their danger signs that didn’t make it on to the list:
“Promotion of oppression of women, including promoting the veil (hijab) among women, which has never been required in many Muslim cultures, and more importantly, which is not the innocuous activity militant Muslims would want everyone to believe.”
After seeing a woman dressed in a head toe black sack wearing stylish matching black gloves mowing a suburban law in 95 degree heat (with the Midwestern humidity to match), I thought to myself “this can’t be right”.
The essential problem no one (not even the UAC, which I support) is admitting to is that Islam at its core is lethally militaristic and institutionalizes homicide. Anyone who has read through the Qur'an is aware of this, since it is this tome that is the source of Islamic ideology-- including its militaristic and homicidal characteristics.
Moderate Muslims or no, there is no sure way to stop followers of Islam from adopting hard-line militant Islam (the real deal, not the 'moderated' version) if they are moderate. And there is no way to prevent Islamic leaders from reactivating Islam's militaristic propensities in the event these had disappeared from a given Islamic society. No one has ever found a way to check Islam's militant nature from rearing its ugly head in any place it is allowed to enter. And the consequences when this happens are usually lethal to the society that allowed it in (as in, say, 9-11).
Anywhere Islam is permitted to set up shop a problem of militant Islamicism automatically follows. That should be obvious to anyone who reads the news.
Islam therefore should NEVER and MUST NEVER be allowed to set up shop in ANY non-Islamic society. The Balkan countries discovered this more than 800 years ago. A lesson learned --truly-- in the Twilight Zone.

We (America) sure did make a mistake on that one. We need to demand the U.S. government stands strong when it comes to radical Islam, not lob cruise missles into the cities of those who are fighting the radical Muslims. America MUST wake up!

For the last 4 years the US Administration, Victor Hanson and sundry other writers, have bemoaned the fact that muslims have not appreciated what the US has done for them. They keep reminding muslims that it was the US that saved them in Kuwait, Bosnia and then later in Kosovo.
All this indicated to me how little these policy makers understood the mindset of muslims at large. To muslims, US intervention in the Balkans or Kuwait, was simply the will of allah, and gratitude to the US was not required. We see such fatalism even in the aftermath of the tsunami or the recent earthqauke - it is simply the will of allah. Any aid from the West is again accepted as their natural due - as they are the chosen people of allah.
Not to understand the mindset of a culture which one is supposedly at war with, is probably the greatest blunder one can make in a war -and this could be a war of survival of the West as a civilisation.

It is interesting that these nine signs include fundamentally flawed arguements. for example, no muslim who believes in their faith would not want God's laws established...just as no jew does not want the temple re-established so that God's commands can be re-established fully.
No believing muslim does not want justice, oppression and aggression fought against for God's sake. whether you choose to title it as jihad or enjoining the good and forbidding the evil, I would hope every human wants a people to rise up against injustice and oppression.
As for injustice towards women, many western women accept Islam in our day because of the justice and freedoms they find in the sharia that were not found in our society...this is a leading cause for hispanic women's leaving catholocism for Islam.
I don't think that any muslim would deny that some muslims were involved in terror attacks around the world but I would suspect every person on this site would want to deny Amercian involvement in attacks, or directly and intentionaly being the cause of thousands of civilian deaths in multiple countries. does that make you anti-muslim militants? (actualy, most of you are by reading the posts but that's another story.)
As for the seventh, I am an american with the same exact rights as everyone else and if i don't feel like letting someone check my car or ask me questions or whatever else they may want, i don't have to...just like some red neck, headbanging freak, i can tell them to get away from me and leave me alone. so far, this is not a military state where i have to abandon my rights of privacy to thought police.
And for #9, if i don't want to socialize with people who do not see the world as i see it, nor do they hold the same interests as myself, nor do they carry themselves in a way i feel comfortable, it is no one's buisness who i associate myself with!!! I personaly don't want to socialize with gays, drug dealers, adulterers, theives or smart mouth bigots...so if that makes me a militant, so be it.
point is, this list is flawed and made to set up every faithful muslim as a militant...there is no good muslim who will not fall into at least three or four things on the list while at the same time being peaceful, law abiding honorable and just people.

What I think is interesting is that you have set out to make these danger signs flawed by reading into them intent and malice that is not there. For example, you stated,

But, the fundamental flaw in your logic is the omission of several facts, like the fact that only your Muslim leaders get to determine who and what to fight against. It would be very different if Militant Islam had any tolerance for other religions or points of view. And it is you and the followers of Islam who choose to call it jihad. That’s your word, not ours. And do you really expect us to believe you hope that “every human wants a people to rise up against injustice and oppression?” Islam has oppressed Christians and Jews and other non-Muslims for centuries. Are you really hoping that “a people” will rise up against the Militant Muslims who commit such crimes?

You seek to hide behind our country’s civil rights laws and become indignant that we should suspect you of wrong doing. How dare you try to shame us when we only seek to protect ourselves? Militant Islamic terrorists hide behind civilians and dress like civilians. They have set their own rules for a new kind of warfare. You choose to look and dress like them and then have the audacity to be shocked that we would be suspicious of you as well. And yet, you would never think of blaming these militant Muslims for your predicament.
If you seek to live in peace with us you need to make better choices about whom you support and who you turn away from.
