Outspoken Israeli imam raises fears of Jerusalem jihad

The Times of London is afraid that jihad might break out in Israel. Gosh! Not in Israel of all places! It's unimaginable!

AN Israeli-Arab religious leader who preaches holy war is attracting support from hundreds of people, fuelling fears among Israel’s security services that Al-Qaeda is poised to establish a foothold in the country.

Sheikh Nazem Abu Salim, 40, an Israeli citizen and imam at the most prominent mosque in Nazareth — Shihab al-Din— has called for jihad in Palestine in an Islamic magazine that he publishes from his headquarters in the city.

“The jihad should take place in Jerusalem,” Nazem, a biochemistry graduate of Beersheba University, wrote in the magazine, Ansar Allah. The publication is the print version of a website the sheikh used to run that was shut, possibly by Israeli intelligence. The site attacked the American onslaught on Falluja in Iraq and praised the resistance of its warriors.

Nazem is also distributing one of the most important books of the global jihad, Al-Taifa al-Mansura. Written in 1993, it directs Islamic fundamentalists to take over all Islamic communities.

In that case Israel will have no choice but to expel the Arabs.
In that case they should also lay wast to the 'Al Aqsa' mosque and make sure that the Jihadis carry the rubble with them to Allah-land.

Good column. However, I would urge abandonment of the term "Muslim fundamentalists". This blog has often pointed out that the fundamentals of different religions produce different behaviors, and that there are indeed Muslims who have not joined the jihad (Islam, and what Muslims do with it, are two different things).

Good Lord, they are incompetent and can't get their website up, so they blame that too on the Jooos? The jihadists are so pathetic, their only skill is pressing the detonate button when sitting next to a grandmother on a bus.

The Israelis have fairly strict laws regarding incitement to violence, and some Jewish Israelis have been put into prison for years, for making statements which incited violence against Arabs. Apparently, they don't apply the laws against Arab Muslims. I cannot understand it -- actually I do... it is the liberal mindset which refuses to see the danger, refuses to see the average Muslim in neighboring nations, and within Israel itself, wants the Jews annihilated. This refusal to see the malignancy of one's enemy, the same problem existed back in WW-II, when too many Jews couldn't imagine Hitler really meant what he said. The "will to disbelieve"...

The "will to disbelieve"... it is an expression of the basic decency of the Israelis, perhaps, like the naivete of a child, but it will get more people killed than would if all such Arab Muslims were simply put into prison for a few months after making such statements. The mosques are the military headquarters and central intelligence services, and the mullahs are the generals.

When I pulled into Nazareth I was feeling about half past dead ....

Sheikh Nazem Abu Salim calls for violent jihad against Israel, the country in which he is living and, I assume, a citizen. As a general principal, and cure-all, I favor deporting radical islamists from whatever country they happen to be residing in. My first priority would be legally deporting them out the the USA, my own country, for obvious reasons of national security. To the extent that other countries deport their resident Islamofascists, that's great too. So Israel should deport this guy.

.......Picked up my bag, went lookin' for a place to hide
When I saw Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side ....

No! Not more references to The Band......

What with the BBC Bob Dylan season, my husband threatening to pull out The Basement Tapes, Robbie Robinson biogs over on DW, (IslamoChristianity at NYU Catholic Center - very interesting by the way, I had forgotten he is Canadian) and now The Weight, which reminds me that the Scots band Nazareth took their name from that line. Time to look out my old tape of Razamanazz.

The line about Carmen and the Devil goes well on the story above of Hispanic women flocking to join the religion of (bits and) pieces.

On a serious note when my husband and I visited the real Nazareth in 1992(ish) we were told that it was a predominantly Christian town. The church of the Annunciation was particularly moving. It is overshadowed by a huge Mosque now, so I read here. How things have changed in such a short time.

Just want to point out one thing. There is no country named Israel. It's called Palestine. Second the israelis have stolen that country from the palestinien people. Just imagine yourself America being stolen by arabs. Of course your hate would escalate and you would aswell preach for a christian jihad.

I can't understand how people can defend Israel when they are the "bad guys" (american terms), what the F gave them the right to take over that country? And how come the Palestine people are the terrorist, it's they're freaking country! Just cause the bible says this or the bible says that we should let them take back jerusalem ? uhuh...I'm not a muslims but I just can't see how people don't want to accept the fact that Palestine has been robbed! And not the contrary! Hitler died too soon!

Cyrus. It is a plesure to read your comments.
You are ashamed to admit that you are a muslim and from your English, probably a pakistany. You are right - it is not a blessing to be a muslim and a pakistany.
Your dear friend Hitler would not consider you even a human. He did not like palistanies.
As of history of Palestine, you should read to gain some knowledge before making any coments on the subject. It is nice to have stupid anemies like you. The only problem - there are too many like you. Well, it is easy to be ignorant and stupid, yet it is not the best way to go through life.
