In Yemen they confront selected jihadists with a panel of Muslim clerics who seek to convince the prisoners of the error of their ways.The idea that this program in Yemen is a real solution to the problem is undermined by the final few paragraphs, which I will present below. It reminds me of the program I used to work for that sought to 'rehabilitate' young criminals by taking them out of jail for 30 days backpacking in the wilderness. Typically their involvement in the program was arranged between them, their legal guardian, their parole officer and a judge. If they got through the program and left with a report of good behavior, it could mean the difference between being released from jail at the age of 18 or being shipped off to an adult prison - so the stakes for the participants were pretty high.
At best all we did was teach them how to better work 'The System' to their advantage and helped them buy some time until they could get out from under government supervision and get back to doing crime. Studies comparing recidivism rates of program participants with those of the general population of juvenile criminals showed a slight decrease in the severity of the felonies that program participants went on to commit after their time in the woods. This is because by the time they had fallen into the grasp of the criminal system it was already too late to "intervene" with them or "rehabilitate" them.
So if the governments of Arab/Muslim countries are going to engage in such (re)education programs, the target of such education needs to be the larger Arab/Muslim population, especially the young, and *before* they sign on with the global jihad. Because once they come to identify themselves with the jihad, it's too late. You can fight them, defeat them, contain them, do whatever it is you have to do to defend yourself, your society and your civilization from them. Eventually those who live long enough will start to lose energy and get enmeshed in simply living a life. Radicalism is generally an activity of young, and for good reason.
As a way of driving a wedge between the jihadis and the larger Muslim community such educational efforts might just work, assuming the clerics can actually make a solid case against jihadist violence. This leads us to the responsibility that the larger Muslim community has: not to issue statements condemning the latest jihadist atrocity - statements that are directed at the non-Muslim world - but to address and combat jihadist ideology from within Islam and to ensure that Muslims have the knowledge they need to combat attempts to spread jihadist ideology within their community. From the outside, we can't do that. All we can do is assume a defensive posture, and maintain that posture until the Muslims themselves either put out the fires, or are consumed by them.

Excellent point Eric, but you seem to forget that every cleric, mulluh, imam, whatever, preach the death to infidel/jew jihad speach. So that it appears to me that reform will never happen. So they will eventually be consumed by those fires that you speak of, but unfortunatly so will millions of innocents.
Indeed -- Does anyone doubt that such Muslim panels are conducted with little more than winks and promptings to elicit the desired answers from these jihadis? I.E. -- if you answer thus, then you are rehabilitated -- wink wink...
Muslims have proven they simply can't be trusted --
They can't be trusted to turn in the jihadis in their midst...
They can't be trusted to place national fealty above the laws of Allah...
They can't be trusted to tell "infidels" the truth about anything...
They can't be trusted to admit to the problems and flaws inherent in their "religion.."
And they CERTAINLY can't be trusted if they promise to "rehabilitate" the worst among them who are willing to act on the endless hatred filled fulminations of bigot priest ignoramouses (Imams) ESPECIALLY when the Muslims promising to rehabilitate such vermin are the bigot priest Imams themselves...!
So -- what to do with the jihadis? My answer to that wouldn't sound very civilized -- yet for the sake of civilization, I think only something DRASTIC will do -- what that is, I am not prepared to say...

What to do with captured jihadis? What should we do with captured Mafiosos that we don't? They are all thugs. Few, if any, can be reformed, and yes, when we don't take difinitive, tough action, they get away with their crimes...and they kow it! Those that don't realize this are sadly naive and a danger to the rest of us.
There is much discussion these days as to whether sexual preditors will be forced to wear GPS ankle bracelets for the rest of their lives - and when they get too close to vulnerable children, the bracelet broadcasts a warning signal to the authorities.
I'll go one better for Jihadists - force them to wear a GPS collar on their necks - make it in plain view and difficult to conceal in clothing - that keeps track of their every move. Forever.

This story puts me in mind of Clockwork Orange. Rehabilitation is for juveniles and petty criminals, not mass murderers.
To reform a Jihadi (mujahideen or true muslim) they must be deprogrammed, and deprogramming someone of religious beliefs is difficult at best and impossible at worst. In fact the harder one pushes in that direction, the more entrenched they become, it is human nature.
There is no solution, every prisoner of Camp XRay, Baghram, Abu Ghraib etc, comes out of the experience angrier, more self justified, more adamant and more determined than when he went in, also more experienced and that makes him more deadly than when he was captured.
The solution, and there is one, is not palatable within the framework of western civilization, and especially after Neuremberg, Baba Yar and Lidice.

What to do with the captured jihadis? That's easy - give the hateful muslim 'males' a sex change and the face of a pig and then turn 'em loose in their own neighborhood. Their jihadi 'friends' will take care of 'em. Problem solved...
You can't reform them but you can certainly MANIUPLATE the hateful, ignorant hordes of the murderous mohamedans.
I have some ideas, but I'm interested in what others think...
Mute them and then isolate them to a place where there is no way off the island. Everything is guarded, the island itself including the comings and goings of supplies. If they want to rape eachother fine. But completely stifle their means of communication.
Some of course are deserving of more severe penalties like being hung from a crane in public. But first the executioner de-masks a just slaughtered pig and places it on the head of the murdering bastard like the royal death mask they deserve.

Important question, because a Jihadist is nothing more than a good activist Moslem. And, given the great difficulty in disposing of 1.2 billion good Moslems -- whether active or not -- brings us to how to deprogram them from the cult.
Surely, cutting out their scriptures and their prayers would be a start.
In all seriousness, there should be federal and state law today banning Korans and other scriptures, Moslem prayer, and Moslem garb. Plus, Moslem troops must be removed from the armed services and other security organizations (such as police departments).
In addition, we need regulations now that stops incoming Moslem migration, and the immediate expulsion of non-citizen Moslems.
Yes, all this would be unconstitutional, but as I've said many times every time we let a Moslem onto our shores we become a little less free. Now, we've let so many in that our constitution is toast.
It's a matter of cultural survival, now.

It may sound like that but that`s purely on account of Nariz omitting to mention that it`s all in line with Mo`s prophecy that there would be many Islamic sects, BUT only the TRUE one would survive. In this context we can appreciate the Sunni-Shiite Divide - for instance.
If Nariz had emphasized that, the post would be clearer.
A jihadi eliminated is in fact being done a favor unto. He gets to be a martyr and is therefore beneficiary to heavenly pleasures.
This weighty question might require a Koranic solution:
What would that wise and compassionate leader such as Mohamed do to these people (if they weren't Muslim)?
Given how gullible and stupid these Jihadis can be, could they be made to believe they were punished and emasculated so as to spend the rest of their lives as inneffectual, dribbling, mental cripples no longer a threat ?
