Who won the Koranic duels? The Koran did, of course.

This report is an update for two Jihad Watch postings. One from November 2003 and the other from February 2005. It also explodes the myth of one becoming "rehabilitated" from the Qur'anic call to jihad. From The Telegraph, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

A pioneering scheme to fight Islamist terror by encouraging jailed extremists to rethink their grasp of the Koran is under fire after claims that some of its "converts" have taken up arms again.

The project, launched in Yemen three years ago by an Islamic scholar, Judge Hamoud al-Hitar, has been followed closely by the British Government, which has twice invited him to lecture senior anti-terrorism officials at Scotland Yard.

The effectiveness of his technique - a theological "duel" in which he and the prisoners quote Koranic texts at each other - is in doubt, however, after reports that some al-Qaeda militants freed under the scheme have been caught fighting coalition forces in Iraq.

Among those released is the former chief bodyguard of Osama bin Laden, Nasser Al-Bahri, who has admitted that his sessions with Judge al-Hitar did nothing to diminish his belief in the leader of al-Qaeda. Instead, he suggested that many militants simply pretended to repent to gain quick release from jail.

One has to wonder how this "pioneering scheme," now proven to be a complete failure, gained so much acceptance and favor from the worldwide press?

How did it gain such wide acceptance? Simple. It offered an easy solution to a complex problem. It jibed with the media's understanding that jihadis are "misinterpreting" the Koran. It held out the hope that, with a little rational persuasion, jihadis could be convinced to change their ways.

The failure of the "dueling Korans" approach shows up the fatuousness of all these assumptions.

That famous "bridge" between civilizations that we are told we need to create through a "dialogue of civilizations" and "greater understanding" (i.e., wilfully refusing to understand) by non-Muslims of Islam, or by admitting Turkey, the seat of government of the last Caliphate and the country of origin of the present Secretary-General of what is undeniably a "Muslim club" of nations -- the Organization of Islamic Countires -- into the European Union, on the theory that Turkey can serve as a
"bridge" between Islam and the West (never mind Islam and the Rest) -- well, what with all these bridges being built hither and yon, what one really needs in all of this is a Willing Suspension of Disbelief.

And that, by now, is for informed Infidels an impossible thing to construct.

In this spectacular spiritual wrestling, should we guess which side was wearing the black trunks and black balaklava? Let me guess.

Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.....

Of course it's going to fail, their inspiration for violent fascism is the Koran, d'hummies!
