Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald considers the question of whether the rioting in France presents a problem that can really be solved by ameliorating the lot of Muslims there, by considering the case of Algeria:
From 1830 to 1962 the French ruled in Algeria. They had arrived to finally put paid to the attacks by Muslim corsairs on Christian shipping. In Algeria, they introduced modern agriculture. They allowed the humiliated and degraded Jews, through the loi Cremieux, to become French citizens and hence free from Muslim laws, humiliation, and degradation. They established schools and the French language and universities -- real universities. Some of the best French Orientalists lived in Algeria, and published their works in Algeria -- Emile Fagnan comes to mind. Whatever civilization Algeria came to possess, was the direct result of the French conquest and settlement and civilizing mission in Algeria.What is Algeria like today? The last Christian religious, a group of Italian, and another group of French monks, exercising their vocation of charity and never attempting to be missionaries, all had their throats slit. The French cemeteries all over Algeria have been vandalized; the tombstones taken, the bones unearthed and thrown about -- they are, after all, merely the remains of Infidels, and deserve no respect. A succession of juntas, consisting of corrupt despots and their courtiers, with the odd supposed technocrat, continue to rule without end. Terrorism racks the country, terrorism and corruption and, despite the vast oil and gas deposits, poverty. Nor is there a single "Algerian" people, any more than there is a single "Iraqi" people. Arab cultural and linguistic oppression of the Berbers causes riots years ago in Tizi-Ouzou and elsewhere in the Kabyle, and finally, the continued unrest led the Arabs to grant one concession: no longer would speaking the Berber language, Tamizaght, be a punishable offense. But the forced arabization has not stopped. The Berber writer Kateb Yacine, who refused to write in Arabic but chose French, was not the only Berber intellectual who recognized that Islam was the vehicle for Arab supremacist ideology. The Berbers, like the Kurds, have learned that, some so well that they have managed to see Islam itself in a new, unflattering light.
No one of sense now visits Algeria; no one of sense, if forced to visit, would wish to stay longer. A few French born in Algeria may dare to cross the Mediterranean, la mer blanche du midi, nostalgic for a now non-existent civilization that they dimly or vividly remembered from their childhood, before 1962 and their hurried flight for France.The French presence in Algeria, that past, that culture, that 132-year interregnum of civilization between two Muslim darknesses, need not be apologized for, and the amends the French may once have thought they needed to make, they've made. They owe the Algerians, the Moroccans, the Tunisians, the world of Islam, nothing further. And if their ruling elites contain many who have ignored, or pooh-poohed the menace of, or chosen to be apologists for, Islam, out of ignorance, stupidity (when you read Olivier Roy or Gilles Kepel you have the proof that la bêtise s'est mise à penser) -- if they continue to make amends by casually undoing the civilization of Chamfort and La Fontaine for beur hip-hop and the praise of Dalil Boubakeur, then something is very wrong. Amends that were never required in the first place have been made. It has been enough. It has been more than enough. Now essentially what is being asked of France is that it change its laws, its customs, its manners, its everything that Muslims do not like, that they find irksome or insulting or that frustrate them.
France is told it must become a new thing, no longer France but a place for a new "synthesis" of Islam and Europe. What this means is that Europe, and not-Europe, Europe and its negative, Europe whether Christian or freethinking, and its historic enemy and opposite, the belief-system that offers Believers a Complete Regulation of Daily Life and a Total Explanation of the Universe, all for the same spiritual price in the same handy book-shaped container -- are somehow to meld, and produce some strange amalgam that, of course, is completely impossible. For Believers know that there is no such thing as "European" or "French" Islam but only Islam, and that Islam must dominate and is not to be dominated, and if they just wait, Da'wa and overbreeding at the expense of Infidel governments will do the rest.
Giving up Algerie française was not enough. Now France must become algerienne, maghrebine, islamique in pockets, and then finally, ultimately, everywhere. No, it doesn't. France owes the Arabs, and Islam, in and out of France, exactly nothing.
When Chirac visited Algeria, mobs besieged him chanting: "Visa, visa." It seems ironic now that the world has decided that the French have been beastly to their Muslim immigrants, but it’s true. Who, in his right mind, would not prefer to live in France rather than Algeria? Algeria is no longer Algerie française, as the car horns of its defenders used to toot in French cities during the days of General Salan, and that assassination attempt in Clamart, and the harkis, and Pontecorvo's absurd movie (a favorite of campuses) about the wonderful fight of the FLN against the bad bad French. See, if you can find, what the eminent anthropologist of Mexico, who worked for the French government in France, Jacques Soustelle, has written of that period.
Well, the "winds of change" blew through Algeria all right. The line of succession, from FLN to corrupt army leaders, continues to rule. And as always, the vehicle for extreme protest in any Muslim country will always be -- Islam. Nothing but Islam.
If Algeria did not have gas and oil deposits, it would sink into nothing. For even as one of the beneficiaries of the largest transfer of wealth in human history (8-10 trillion dollars to the Muslim oil states since 1973), Algeria, like Iran, like Saudi Arabia, like the sheikhdoms, is amazing not for what it has achieved with all that money, the result of no effort on the part of its people, but how little it has achieved.
It took a kind of genius in reverse to make a mess with all that money. But the Muslim states proved equal to the task. If you seek Islam's monument, look at Iran, look at "Saudi" Arabia, look especially at the once-civilized place that is now called Algeria.
And today, the most telling reply to those who wonder about the root causes of the low economic achievement by Muslims in Algeria and now in France, and indeed everywhere, is to ask what it is about Islam that might explain it. What blend of inculcated hostility toward Infidels and of inshallah-fatalism might be responsible for whatever supposed travails the Muslims in France, Muslims in Belgium, Muslims in Spain, Muslims in Italy, Muslims in the United Kingdom, Muslims in Germany all experience? (Of course, in the latter case, Turkish immigrants have had a life-saving early immersion program in Turkish secularism, so that even if they "return to Islam" they still have not lived under its full mental burden.) Might such hostility be ill-concealed, or not concealed at all, and therefore might Infidels not respond, after a while, in kind?
If even after the receipt of $8-10 trillion in OPEC money, unmerited, unearned, sous-sol manna from Heaven, Arab and Muslim countries have nowhere managed to create modern economies, and still rely almost completely (as Saudi Arabia does), or nearly completely (as the sheikdoms do), or only partly (as Iraq does, and Iran did), on Western professionals, Western know-how, Western workers at the top and Asian workers at the bottom, then perhaps there is something about Islam itself that causes this. Perhaps there is something in the kinds of attitudes Islam fosters, the contempt for many kinds of work, that is simply beneath Muslims but not beneath Infidels, apparently, and then of course there is the habit of discouraging independent thought and free and skeptical inquiry that is essential to science, and to more than science, and this kind of mental submission and lack of imagination and indifference and incuriosity about how things work, and how they are created and how they can be made better (though Muslims en masse display a willingness to accept, like the members of a cargo-cult, the technological fruits of Western science), so often (not always, but often) prevents the kind of entrepreneurial activity and industry that not only the West, but the entire Rest of the non-Islamic world, appears to have little difficulty engaging in, encouraging, appreciating.
Islam creates Believers who are the Odd Men Out of the World yet believe the World belongs to them. It is they, those Believers in Islam, who demand that superior civilizations transform themselves in order to be more welcoming to Islam, to give up its own laws, customs, understandings, to transform themselves so as to become more welcoming of Islam and of Believers. It is they, the Muslims, and only they, who insist on their divine right to domination of the world and of all the Infidels in it, wherever they may live, and no matter what the particular brand of Infidels those Infidels might be. The demand to end Algerie francaise, a place that once brought temporary civilization to the uncivilized turned out not to be enough. As the Maghreb countres became independent and returned to their local lords of misrule and their former squalor, maghrebins themselves sought to leave and, without recognizing that what was wrong with their own countries could be traced to Islam itself (how could they), they insisted on bringing Islam with them in their mental baggage, undeclared and overlooked by the French officials, and settled in France, determined to remain, determined more and more not to give up the belief-system that offered solace even as it was the source of their inability to adjust, their inability to think clearly, to encourage the faculty of critical self-scrutiny or free and skeptical inquiry, and settled into the sour hatred of the Infidels that was preached in the mosques, and that in any case pervaded, and pervades, Muslim societies, groups, familiies. Inculcated hatred of Infidels, hatred of their ways, their laws, of everything about them because they are Infidels, did not disappear: in fact, with the welfare state, there was no need to break one's back in labor, and there was plenty of time to consider the perfidy of those same Infidels.
And now they are in France, in millions more than the government will admit, and the government still refuses to look deeply into Islam, relying instead on the wily and untrustworthy Boubakeur, and the less wily, more gullible "Islam experts" who think at the level of Olivier Roy and Gilles Kepel -- the blind leading the blind.
And now the demand is no longer for the French to leave Algeria, but for the French to leave, in a sense, their own France: to accede to the demands to transform it, and to do nothing to preserve it as it has been, with its own history, literature, laws, customs, manners, understandings. Mere demography, it is insisted, is destiny -- and cannot in any way be tampered with. The Czechs may have overnight expelled 3 million Sudeten Germans because of a security risk, but the French are not allowed to even mention the very idea of expulsion.
This is the demand, express and implied: the civilization of France must change, the order of things must change, to make it in every respect Islam-friendly, and willing to submit to Muslim demands, Muslim needs, Muslim resentment that Muslims do not have their rightful -- their superior -- place in the scheme of things. Infidels have traditionally paid a jizyah to Muslims in Muslim-ruled societies. In France, for now, the Muslims will be willing, like those in Malaysia, to accept a disguised jizyah -- the jizyah of endless aid, endless government support, endless tolerance for Muslim disruption of schoools and workplaces and street life and everything else that can be disrupted.
And meanwhile, a superior civilization is required to dilute itself, to succumb to an inferior one, and nothing is supposed to be done, or even hinted at, that might prevent the continued incredible rise in Muslim nmbers, in Muslim power, in the growing Muslim will to dominate, and to make France, something that is not France, but something that trades what remains of Chamfort's "perfected civilization," for a mess of pottage -- crude verlan, beur hip-hop, the muezzin's wail, the minarets rising everywhere -- that pottage being a nearly unrecognizable place that could be called la France algerienne. The mission civilisatrice in reverse. That is in essence what is being demanded.
How silly, how stubborn, how unreasonable for the rest of us not to be enthusiastic about this promised splendid synthesis of "Islam" and "Europe," beginning with "Islam" and "France." Tariq Ramadan approves, Olivier Roy, D. de V. all seem to find the idea plausible. idea. And they, of course, are the kind of people one should surely trust. But for some reason they cannot quite describe in the slightest detail, or indeed with any detail at all, what this "synthesis" between "Islam" and "Europe" would look like.
Sorry, the Infidels in France, and not only in France, must insist -- sorry we can't be more accommodating. But that's the way it's going to be.
The enemy within
People say that this is not the time or place for recrimination and accusation when the enemy is on the gates or have already stormed the battlements… However, we can not fight in our front and simultaneously watch our backs. As a descendent of a conquered subjected people who suffered as much and as long as any under Islam, and as one who is well versed in the history of the Islamic conquests, I know that the success of the Muslims owes as much or even more to the treachery of a few cowardly, vindictive, spiteful, conniving scum who sold their people out than to the military prowess and ruthlessness of the Arab conquest machine. A convenient traitor with a grudge or greed always shows up before battle to guide the Muslims, weaken the resolve of the defenders, spread panic, and consul capitulation.
The West does not have a few turncoat cowards with a grudge against the decedent West, it has millions of them, each with his/her own story. These are not desperate fringe individuals either, rather they are highly organized, well financed, powerful groups of the elites, the wealthiest, most educated, connected, and influential citizens presiding over hordes of disaffected minorities and the rebellious children of the Middle class.
Unless these destructive segments of our population are contained and rendered harmless, the Muslim conquest will proceed with outmost speed. The home front is the most important front, if we fail to secure it, all is lost. I really do not mind dying with a gun in my hand defending my family, my home, and my neighbors however, the defeatists liberal scum refuse to allow me to even die with dignity if that time comes. My contempt for the left is far more than mine for Muslims because that is the way that Muslims are, but what can be said in defense of the leftist Marxists turncoats who helped destroy mankind greatest civilization, prosperity, culture for the sake of a utopian dream that manifested itself as a nightmare after another in the last century.

A small unified dedicated Army is much more effective than a fractious uncommitted Army. The West needs to speak with one voice, but it needs to say the right things about itself and its enemies. Since as citizens, the leftwing Marxists lack a truly essential element of citizenship, the willingness to die on behalf of their homeland, saddling the conservatives with the overwhelming responsibility for defense while ridiculing and undermining those who make that sacrifice as right-wing bible-crazy baby-killers, the 50% should not have as much of a say as those who lay down their lives so the Lefties can bitch and moan, accumulating wealth, benefiting from the thankless sacrifices of others.
Many would say that this is not democratic or fascist, but I say the Left wing has made its choice and it continuous to have and make this choice; unfortunately this choice conflicts with and curtails the survival of the entire population and civilization. In order to survive in the perilous fight, the Left needs the Right much more than the opposite. But you do have a major point: The comments here can be off-putting to other people who might be helpful in opposing the jihadis. That has frustrated me (an anonymous commenter) as well, and my guess is partly what motivated Robert Spencer to suggest that he would turn off the comments a few months ago.
I hope he doesn't, since the comments often add rather than detract, but detract they sometimes do. They often seem to prod Hugh in welcome directions, and many other commenters provide insight as well. WHAT DE GAULLE REALLY SAID

At the beginning of his essay "Liberators" [NYR, October 11], Robert M. Adams refers to an assassination attempt against de Gaulle:
Some years ago a society of malcontents planted a large bomb under the roadway leading from Colombey-les-deux-Eglises to Paris. They exploded it almost on time, and blew up, instead of General de Gaulle, a car full of his bodyguards and secretaries. The general emerged from his undamaged vehicle, surveyed the carnage with a professional eye, and said simply, "Dommage. Une belle sortie."
This entertaining anecdote has all the markings of a historical myth in the making: sufficiently vague to be hard to place, but with a quotation in French to inspire authenticity. It is perhaps worth setting the record straight.
The "society of malcontents" can only be the OAS (Organisation de l'Armée Secrète) which in the early sixties opposed de Gaulle's Algerian policies and instigated many terrorist attacks in France. The assassination attempt referred to is that of Pont-sur-Seine on September 8, 1961: Pont-sur-Seine is indeed on the road from Colombey to Paris, and a "plastic" bomb was used. (The other more famous assassination attempt at Petit-Clamart on August 8, 1962, fits Mr. Adams' description even less well.) However, according to Jean Lacouture's three volume biography of de Gaulle, published by les Editions du Seuil, only the bomb detonator—not the plastic itself—went off, no one was injured, and when de Gaulle got out of his car he roared "Quels maladroits!"
Again according to Lacouture, the next day de Gaulle said to Louis Terrenoire that (my translation) "from a speculative and historical point of view, it would perhaps have been better than to die in one's bed or in an accident." Perhaps from this seed sprang up the myth passed on by Mr. Adams.

So it is, we've been asked by management to check our ideological colors at the door. The proprietor and his bartender (pardon the metaphor Hugh) envision a 'big tent' for their establishment. It's understandable. In the final analysis, the "business" is a public service doing admittedly important educational work and the more people reached, the more enlightened society as a whole becomes. And besides, as is the case with any party, the more the merrier.
But one must ask, what is the value of a 'comments section' if not to provide a market place for ideas if you will. And coherent ideas are what we are sorely in need of as we grapple with the most important civilizational challenge of our time...the Islamic awakening.
Messrs Spencer and Fitzgerald have repeatedly and appropriately used this website to elucidate the extent to which Left-wing constructs such as multiculturalism and political-correctness have impeded a successful fight against Islamic enchroachment. Such efforts have been particularly poignant in the last week or two.
So how did we get where we are?
For almost two centuries, America embraced the 'melting-pot.' We used our educational institutions to turn the newly-arrived immigrant into what Ibn Warraq effectionately referred to as "a good little American."
How sad that such a term today is perceived with such condescension that to some it may border on racism. How did this happen, such a transformation in perception?
Pretty simple. Thirty some-odd years ago, the Left captured control of the Academy and the culture at large, and imbibed the European stew, that diversity is not a means but an end. America promptly jettisoned the melting pot for the mosaic.
The results have been catastrophic in so many ways. Edward Said was cultivated and allowed to destroy scholarship in the Humanities, a grievance culture obliterated the concept of personal responsibility, the media abandoned even the pretense of objectivity, and Balkanization became the rule, leading Europe into an orgy of disaffection and arson, and someday threatening to do the same to America.
If we are genuinely interested in finding solutions to the problems of our age, we have to define who and what we are. Characterizing the profound differences between Left and Right as 'reductivism' is as myopic as saying there is no difference between Christianity and Islam.

US reveals Iraq nuclear operation
The US has revealed that it removed more than 1.7 metric tons of radioactive material from Iraq in a secret operation last month.
"This operation was a major achievement," said US Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham in a statement.
He said it would keep "potentially dangerous nuclear materials out of the hands of terrorists".
Along with 1.77 tons of enriched uranium, about 1,000 "highly radioactive sources" were also removed.
The material was taken from a former nuclear research facility on 23 June, after being packaged by 20 experts from the US Energy Department's secret laboratories.
It was flown out of the country aboard a military plane in a joint operation with the Department of Defense, and is being stored temporarily at a Department of Energy facility.
The United Nations nuclear watchdog - the International Atomic Energy Agency - and Iraqi officials were informed ahead of the operation, which happened ahead of the 28 June handover of sovereignty.
'Dirty bomb'?
The explosion of a so-called "dirty bomb" in a city by a terrorist group is a major concern of Western intelligence agencies.
Rather than causing a nuclear explosion, a "dirty bomb" would see radioactive material combined with a conventional explosive - probably causing widespread panic and requiring a large clean-up operation.
Uranium would not be suitable for fashioning such a device, though appropriate material may have been among the other unidentified "sources".
Mr Abraham added that the operation had also prevented the material falling into the hands "of countries that may seek to develop their own nuclear weapons".
The 1,000 "sources" evacuated in the Iraqi operation included a "huge range" of radioactive items used for medical purposes and industrial purposes, a spokesman for the Energy Department's National Nuclear Security Administration told AP news agency.
Bryan Wilkes said much of the material was "in powdered form, which is easily dispersed".
The IAEA has been among organisations which have warned that many countries have lost track of radioactive material.

Marxists feel themselves to be such failures as their Marxist construct of society in Stalinist countries and soon to be former communist China imploded, that they are only to willing to ride on the coat-tails of Islam, gullibally latching on to the dangerous and destructive cult of Mohammedism which is also bent on destroying Western liberal society. Aren't they clothed, fed, housed and educated, taken care of when sick by the French state, the same as everyone else. Incidentally, there are plenty of French not of immigrant stock who are also unemployed and live in housing projects. To hear the left media squawking and lauding gang violence is sickening - perhaps because the journos who write this bilge don't actually have to live in those areas and watch their cars and nurseries being burnt.
Silly, Islam is "the Arabs," an Arabic imperialistic ideology that is the scourge of the earth and should be driven back to be contained in the desert where it belongs. What is the meaning of ‘freedom of faith?’ Does it not allow a Muslim to live as a Muslim? Does it not allow an atheist to live as an atheist? If a Muslim girl wants to attend school maintaining her modesty, why should she be denied school? For some Muslim girls, revealing their hair is humiliating.
All that the Muslims ask is that they be allowed to practice their religion; they be allowed to teach their religion to those who are desirous of learning about Islam. Is that too much to expect of a civilized society?

two more remarks about Arabs or Muslims and civilization:
1- Compare India with Pakistan. The two populations are basically of the same race, yet India has made far more progress in social development than Pakistan since independence [1947 for both]. Hence, one cannot claim that social progress depends on skin-color or biological race but rather, to a great extent, on religion and way of thinking.
2- The exact mechanism for suppressing science or civilization in Pakistan is of interest.
Consider the Dictionary of Islam, compiled by a Britisher named Thomas Hughes in the 19th century. This was a useful and informative reference work, which went through several reprintings in Lahore, India, under British rule. But compare the original edition with editions published in Lahore after Pakistani independence. They have been bowdlerized in progressive fashion to remove what may be offensive to Islam. Indeed, one edition is thinner than the one that went before. In fact, the publishers put in a notice that readers are invited to look for Islamically offensive material and inform the publishers so that what offends Islam, what is not in line with Islamic dogma, can be removed from subsequent editions. I noticed this first in the item on Jewish elements in Islam, which apparently can not be mentioned in a reference work. Likewise, Christian elements in Islam that Hughes had mentioned. I found out about the bowdlerizing by comparing one pre-1947 and several post-1947 editions.

The inability to think through the consequences has indeed resulted in the capitalists selling the west.
They invented globalization thinking that their automated manufacturing plants would produce cheap products to sell to every one and destroy the local productivity. They forgot that the so called automated plants require an army of programmers and technicians who unfortunately are trained in the developing countries in contrast to the west. The result is migration of persons with alien culture. Once the cultural aliens settle down in a country, they like to be assimilated; how else to assimilate if the West does not accommodate and shift its focus. Blind profit motive leads to eventual destruction.
Today, the Muslim immigrants – from Algeria and elsewhere – in France are accused. Why were they allowed into France? Were they admitted so that they can become beneficiaries of the French welfare system from day one? No. The immigrants worked, rather slaved, their whole lives. Their children, French born children, can not and do not accept a standard of living less than the other native French. Thus, the youths are revolting today.
The root cause: Evil capitalism!

Some of the demands made include:
1) slitting the throats of sheep Muslim-style on the streets of cities at Eid al-fitr.
2) acceptance of polygamy, and changes in the law (affecting state and private pensions) so that the various wives can be provided for.

4) acceptance of mosque-and-minaret complexes everywhere, though there is no attempt anywhere in the Muslim world to reciprocate. Surely the poster above should address his unconvincing plea for "freedom to practice religion" first to the government of Saudi Arabia, and then to that of the Sudan, and then to that of Iran, and then to that of Pakistan (how has Pakistan, or for that matter Bangladesh, made easier the freedom to worship for millions of Hindus, who have been persecuted and driven out ever since Pakistan, East and West, received its independence?), and then to that of Egypt (any restrictions on the Copts and their worship that you, the poster above, care to admit to, care to recognize, care to suggest be lifted? Then kindly write to President Mubarak, Very Swanky Palace and Messuage, Cairo, Egypt).
5) Islam very clearly insists on hostility -- even murderous hostility -- toward Infidels. "Do not take Jews and Christians as friends for they are friends only with each other" is only the mildest of the remarks to be found, which go all the way up to the usual "Slay the Unbeliever wherever you find him" and which are everywhere in the Qur'an, the Hadith, and Sira.
Perhaps Infidels have been silly not to notice this, but notice it they now are, and they have a perfect right to be alarmed.
Any Muslim poster who wishes to understand their alarm (sympathy or identificaton with Infidels is of course is simply impossible), should perform the following:
Take the Qur'an. Take the Hadith. Take the Sira, in any version you choose. Now replace everywhere the words "Infidel" or "Christian" or "Jew" or "polytheist" (Hindus, etc.) by the word "Muslim." Now take the word "Muslim" and replace it by the word "Infidel." Now read as much of this edited Qur'an, Hadith, Sira that you can stand. How does it strike you? Does it strike you as offensive? Do you dislike it? Would you worry if you knew that lots of people were coming in and settling in your country who took these books as their canonical texts, as their Guides to Everything, and those Guides seemed to be murderously hostile toward Muslims, and offer unreserved loyalty only to fellow Infidels, merely by dint of their being Infidels?
What would your reaction be? Try for once to imagine yourself a non-Muslim, facing a Muslim invasion, and the Jihad that naturally accompanies it, conducted through whatever instruments are available and efficacious?
Still want to plea for understanding? Still think that Infidels are cruel to worry about the teachings of Islam, about the freedom of Muslims to pass on, unhindered, and even to spread among vulnerable Infidels, this doctrine which is only in part about the rituals of worship or about some conceived and conceivable Creator, but mostly about something else: the Rightness of Islam, and of Muslims, to rule over all non-Muslims. It is everywhere in Islam. To fail to notice it -- well, that takes some real effort. I'm just not up to it. I'm amazed that so many people still are. Eventually I think they are going to get tired of the pretense, and decide to recognize what is staring them in the face. I think it is happening, by degrees, now, all over the Infidel world.
Nariz is right that capitalists have built up Muslim power and wealth, and look at how prince charley mountbatten or windsor, or whatever his family name is, advocates Islam and overlooks the crimes of Muslims. One would expect the Brit royal family to be conservative. But it is not so in charley's case.

Mohideen, the Taqiyya-queen does not exist.
Proof:
There is only one King in the whole universe – God Almighty, who has no wife, no mother, no father, no son, no daughter etc. Since the King, that is, God Almighty, does not have a wife, there is no queen. As there is no queen, there is no ‘taqiyyah-queen.’ Hence, ‘Mohideen, the Taqiyyah-queen,’ does not exist.

There are several possibilities now available.
The first is that all replies to Muslim posters be kept carefully to the point , with no words wasted.
The second is that all such comments by apologists for Islam, which apparently tempt too many to reply, and use up space, and time, will simply be routinely deleted.
And there is another problem: that of the trading of blows, the settling of scores, the airing of resentments, between and among various non-Muslim posters. The invocation of either the Evils of Capitalism and Big Business, or of the Leftist Conspiracy to Hand Over America on a Platter to Islam, is getting out of hand.
So if, despite the good-natured invoking of a gruff billygoat, the infantile Hokey-Pokey continues, and so many join in, with slightly modified lyrics -- "You put your left point in, you take your left point out, you put your left point in and you shake it all about" which is then repeated by someone else, except that in his version the phrase "left point" is replaced by "right point," and so on -- continues, then this Hokey-Pokey quickly becomes unendurable, a veritable Dance of Death -- the Death of Thought.
Can't have it. Not enough space. Not enough time. So if it continues, assorted poster babies, or posted babies, will have to be thrown out with the bathwater. In other words, all comments, even the useful ones, even the wonderful ones, will no longer be permitted, because there is no time to sort out the good from the bad, and some of the bad are making -- on visitors -- a bad first impression, and they may not stay for a longer look, and they should. The more people who come to this site, and see what Islam and the Jihad is all about, the better. They mustn't be driven away.

Substitute "Christians" and "Christianity" in the above and you have just branded Islamic law as uncivilized...throughout history.

Take the Qur'an. Take the Hadith. Take the Sira, in any version you choose. Now replace everywhere the words "Infidel" or "Christian" or "Jew" or "polytheist" (Hindus, etc.) by the word "Muslim." Now take the word "Muslim" and replace it by the word "Infidel." Now read as much of this edited Qur'an, Hadith, Sira that you can stand. How does it strike you? Does it strike you as offensive? Do you dislike it? Would you worry if you knew that lots of people were coming in and settling in your country who took these books as their canonical texts, as their Guides to Everything, and those Guides seemed to be murderously hostile toward Muslims, and offer unreserved loyalty only to fellow Infidels, merely by dint of their being Infidels?

About the comparison between first and second generation immigrants: We see the same in other countries, notably in Germany.
The real problems began with the second generation.
Should this really surprise us?
Look what the first-generation immigrants did NOT have:
- large enough numbers to form their separate communities
- mosques, often funded from Saudi Arabia
- islamic schools
- Satellite TV broadcasting programs from the home planet
- internet
Altogether a pretty potent concoction for non-integration...
Since the poster above has no intention of taking my suggestion that the words "Infidel" (and its constituent variants -- Christian, Jew, polytheist) and "Believer" be made to swap places, in a kind of Prince-and-the-Pauper switcheroo, because he couldn't possibly handle it (right now he's suddently decided to investigatehow the Japanese Yakuza are taking over the world -- my, let's all concentrate on those Yakuza, shall we?).
So I don't want that suggestion to be ignored. If you are trying to persuade others, either privately or at open forums and in discussion groups, what Islam is all about, why not print out, say, the Jihad-verses (see the Calcutta Qur'an Petition), performing the switch as suggested above, and then reading aloud. And read, and read. And then ask the audience what it thinks of this "hate-speech" directed at Muslims and Islam. And after they have expressed their outrage, and their unspeakable horror, at the sentiments revealed in what you have just read, pass around copies (be sure to come with many -- consider it your contribution to education), and then finally, when the last person has expressed the last drop of his mortification, his disbelief, that any Christians or Jews could possibly be preaching this kind of viciousness, then -- and only then, you must be patient, you must be careful to display no emotion, do you reveal what you have actually read from, and passed out copies of, but with the words "Infidel" and "Believer" changing places.

Thanks to God Almighty for inducing the above comment from Hugh. A Muslim has no permission to change places with a non-Muslim. If I have to do exactly what you are doing, the result would be the same: hatred would grow.
God willing, what I plan to do is to create a document that removes built-in biases and put the document on the net, and inform the substitutions made at the end of the document. Let the reader then decide. If any reader desires to inform me of his / her reaction, God willing, a link would be provided for communication.
Can't keep up with the sheer craziness of it all. How did I, a perfectly sane product of mid-20th century America, who dutifully read "My Weekly Reader" and then "Junior Scholastic," in which possibly a picture or two of a burnoosed Arab, denizen of the desert, might have crossed my consciousness, but otherwise the whole business of Islam and the Middle East and all the rest of it did not exist. And now it is not the problem once foretold by Bertolucci -- "a Cina e vicina" -- but Islam, this crazy thing, that we are all supposed to simply accept, and not study, to accept, and approve, to accept, and tiptoe around, to accept and do nothing to offend.
And so many will not look at France, will not look at Holland, will not look everywhere in Europe. They can't take it in. It's too much. So they deny and deny. And this is happening while there is the allusiojn of great, tough and rough, stemming and turning back the tide in the idiotically-named, idiotically-conducted "war against terror." I can't wait until that nonsensical phrase, and the squandering of resources in Iraq, ends -- perhaps it will not end until there is a new election, which would mean of course that it would end in the wrong way, and for the wrong reasons.
For god's sake, get on the stick. There's been the January election, with all that sentimental tosh about the universal "yearning for freedom," expressed supposedly in the proudly displayed purple thumbs held up for all the world to see, and now there's the wonderful new Constitution, which guarantees that no legislation may contradict Islam. And then there was the even more wonderful referndum on the wonderful new Constitution. And now in about a month, with all those extra Ameican troops to stand, or sit, or move about the Iraqi room as sitting-ducks to be, here and there, blown up by I.E.D.'s (but it's for "democracy" and "if we don't fight them here -- we'll have to fight them there" because isn't that what happened to the French? Didn't they refuse to fight them here, and that must be the reason why they have to fight them there? Isn't it?), the second set of elections.
For god's sake please look around the world. Forget about forgettable Iraq. If there is to be any increase in the desire of some Muslims to constrarin Islam, it will only come, as it did in Turkey, either from an enlightened homegrown despot, such as Ataturk, who sees that a powerful Islam is incompatible with a modern nation-state's [progress and well-being, or from those who have endured a long imposition of the real Islam, as in the Islamic Republic of Iran, where every morally or intellectually advanced person hates the Islamic Republic, and the Islam for which it stands, and that too has come fromm within. Let Iraq go. Worry about France, about Italy, about Spain, about England, about Belgium, about Denmark, about Germany, about Norway, about Sweden. Worry about Marseille and Malmo, and Bradford and Brussels. Worry about the Muslims here, there, and everywhere. They mean business.
Someday someone will, if there is a posterity, write a book about the Bush effort to achieve "democracy" in Iraq and thereby -- well, thereby something, I'm not quite sure what, nor is Rice, nor is Bush, nor are the loyal hardworking generals, who surely must sometimes get fed up with the party line, and secretly beg to differ with the President, and his insistence that in Iraq "total victory" can be achieved. Meanwhile, with all these troops, and all this money, and all this military equipment, the most elementary efforts at education were not undertaken, the most simple efforts at reconnecting the Atlantic Alliance, on the basis of a right understanding of the menace of Islam, were not undertaken, and in short. That book will describe Bush, and Rice, and Rumsfeld, and Wolfowitz, and Feith, and the smiling Shi'a in exile, and Bernard Lewis, and Powell, and the State Department Arab desk, and all those on the take, directly and indirectly, from Saudi and other Arab interests. And the book will describe that first period of the War of Self-Defense Against the Jihad, when the American government engaged in all sorts of impressive-seeming tough-guy stuff in Iraq and Afghanistan, with planes and tanks and helicopters and drones and other things that go bump in the night, but it will then be seen, in retrospect, to have been largely a diversion, and a cause for division within the West and within the United States itself.
And the most important theatre of war, Western Europe itself, has largely largely left to be handled by thew demoralized and largely intimidated Europeans, who have cleverly been split from the United States by that same Iraq policy which, exploited by appealing to such pre-existing mental conditions as antisemitism and anti-Americanism, has helped to split one side of the Atlantic Alliance from the other.
The unrepresentative and well-cushioned elites who had helped cause the problem in the first place, by not studying the nature of Islam, not reading or comprehending, or wanting to comprehend, the contents of its immutable texts, or to accept the permanence of the hostility inculcated against all non-Muslims, and the uncompromsing nature of the conflict between Dar al-Islam and Dar al-Harb, until the latter is necessarily swallowed up by the latter. Of this the Administration tells itself, tells us, tells the soldiers fighting and dying for something at this point sily, pointless, counter-productive -- nothing.
In much of the Western world, the initial effort at understanding Islam has been left to a handful of underfunded or unfunded lone wolves and seeming cranks -- cranks only because they must persist in presenting, over and over again, the same evidence, the same home truths, the same logic, and hope that despite not being interviewed by Barbara Walters, despite not having the draw of "The Apprentice" or "Access Hollywood" or so much else of such great importance, that little by little -- in this race to educate -- enough people will come to comprehend what is apparently so difficult to accept or understand. Even Churchill, famously alone and unheeded in the 1930s, could issue his warnings from Marlborough House, and was a friend of press barons and other powerful people.
So here we are, more than four years after the 9/11/2001 attacks. France is under assault -- its Infidels, its Infidel institutions, its Infidel nation-state. And everyone in the world rushes to interpret events without any reference to Islam, but only to "poverty" and "anger" and "frustration" and "joblessness." And meanwhile the American government, and its yes-men in Congress, are insistent that Iraq is what counts, Iraq will do the trick, Iraq will be a model of "democracy" (apparently the 80-year-old model of Kemalist Turkey was not enough of a "model," nor that of odd-man-out Christian-influenced and therefore "democratic" Lebanon. Iraq, Iraq, Iraq. Iraq, where "we shall neither falter nor fail." Iraq, where we will "accept nothing less than total victory" (what constitutes "total victory" over the Jihad, and in what way remaining in Iraq helps to achieve even a "victory," much less an amazing "total victory" -- is always left carefully hinted at, but never explained).
You know the title of that future book already. It will be called: "While America Slept."
