Fitzgerald: What is being done about Muslim immigrants?

Jihad Watch Board Vice President Hugh Fitzgerald asks a series of pointed questions about the enormous, and yet almost completely ignored, immigration problem in the West:

We have a right to know: what is the INS doing about Muslim immigrants? Is it doing anything? Have any policies changed since 9/11/2001? What about since the seizure of the theatre in Moscow or the school in Beslan, with nearly 400 dead children and teachers? Have there been any changes since the killing, in Holland, of Pim Fortuyn? Of Theo van Gogh? Since the threats to kill Ayaan Hirsi Ali and Geert Wilders? What changes have been made in our immigration policies since the threats to the head of a Christian political party in Norway? Since the threats to a newspaper in Denmark? Since the virtual takeover of much of Malmo, Sweden, as a no-go for non-Muslims area? What changes in immigration policy have resulted from plans to bomb the Strasbourg Christmas market, or the Vatican, were foiled? What changes in immigration policy have followed upon the bombing of the subway in Madrid? The underground in London? What changes in immigration policy followed the three weeks of Muslim riots, in which a dozen churches were attacked and set ablaze, and tens of thousands of cars set on fire, and a Frenchman beaten to death, and others critically wounded, and cries of Allahu Akbar were heard all over the land?

Any changes? Any?

Will someone in Congress please do something to protect us, to make us safer? Will someone please make sure that the mistakes that the Europeans made in their own immigration policy are not repeated here? Will someone please make sure that we do not repeat the mistakes that the Province of Quebec made when it encouraged immigration by "francophones" -- including Muslim maghrebins, who have become a permanent security problem not only for the government, but for all sorts of inoffensive Canadians: the Jews, the Hindus, and the Maronites in Quebec who regard with horror that what they tried to escape has been allowed to follow them right to l'Amerique septentrionale.

We want to know who is learning about Islam, who is studying what Islam tells its Believers to think of Infidels, and what, over 1350 years, the historical evidence for these teachings being taken seriously, and put in to practice, reveals.

This isn't a matter for emptily respectful treatment of a belief-system that, because it contains rituals of worship, is called, just a bit too quickly, a "religion." This isn't the time to invoke, without any evidence, the notion that Islam stands for "peace" and "tolerance." The "peace" is the peace that follows upon Islamic conquest -- the peace that follows when war to spread Islam is no longer necessary. The "tolerance" is the tolerance, extended only to fellow monotheists, of the dhimmi system, a system which condemns non-Muslims to a status of permanent humiliation, degradation, and physical insecurity.

This is not a joke. This is not rhetoric. Our government's legitimacy comes primarily from its ability to protect us. If it will not, or cannot protect us -- its first duty -- it loses all legitimacy.

What is being done?

When there are outbreaks of Mad Cow Disease, tens of millions of cattle are affected -- the meat from those tens of millions completely quarantined for fear of the results. When travellers, originating in a land known to have an outbreak of a communicable and deadly disease -- typhus, tuberculosis, avian flu, for example, try to enter this or that country, they are often turned away.

If you knew that out of every 100 Muslim immigrants, 1 out of 10, at the very least, the absolute minimum, would be either a participant in terrorist acts or would do nothing to prevent, by warning the police, of such acts -- well, what would you, as an Infidel, like your government to adopt as a sensible policy of minimum self-protection?

And if you agree with me, and with a great many of the defectors from Islam who know best what Islam is all about, and how Muslims think, and what they say, behind the backs of Infidels, then you will be convinced that the real number is not 1 out of 10, not 2 out of 10, not 3 out of 10, but far higher.

Is anyone in the governments of the Western world listening?

No – almost unanimously, no. Because this is a “right-wing” issue. Yet what makes Geert Wilders "right-wing"? Would he be "right-wing" in a way that is different from Pim Fortuyn, who had nothing "right wing" about him, or Ayaan Hirsi Ali (ditto)? Unless, of course, being alarmed by what is contained in Qur'an, Hadith and sira, and those who take their worldview and guidance from what is contained in those same texts, and having been so alarmed, wish to sound the alarm for others, constitutes being "right wing."

During the Lebanese Civil War, the Christians of Lebanon, including modest farmers in Christian villages, were always described, formulaically, with Homeric epithets, as "right-wing." This was in Le Monde and in The New Duranty Times and everywhere: "Right-wing Christians." No one could, then or now, explain what made Lebanese Christians "right-wing." It is an all-purpose epithet, designed to shut off thought, to prevent all thought. Only "right-wingers" are alarmed about Islam.

Nonsense. Just one more bit of the stupidity that can become, that already is, suicidal. To slightly alter Houseman -- "An air that kills/From yon far country blows." That far country, from which comes that air that kills, is actually not far but near, right here within the Lands of the Infidels, within the minds of the Infidels themselves who will not see, and refuse to find out.

If only those who remain so silly and so complacent were the only ones to suffer from that silliness and complacency. But the rest of us will suffer as well. And we don't deserve it.

Excellent piece of commentary, this, Hugh. You should send it to the White House.

This is not so simple cause our democratic give and take does not consider the inability of the politician and the electorate to weigh up and analyze a situation objectively.
Just see this article:
"The Israeli connection"
http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=47569
Ted Byfield writes:

Canada's Liberal party, which over the years has proved highly adept at walking down both sides of the street at the same time, was caught doing it last week and at a very inopportune moment.
One side was labeled Israel, a cause toward which Canada has been increasingly favorable in the United Nations. The other side was Islam, whose adherents are so numerous in certain Toronto constituencies that they could take seats away from the Liberals in the federal election expected in January.

The government cannot do anything in this type of situation; but it is entirely in the hands of the electorate. They have to use their democracy with introspection and intelligence. That is the big problem in this age of downgrading education in the interests of PC politiKing.

This following from a typically acceptable organisation demonstrates the rift formed in the society:

But when all four party leaders attended a reception held by the Canadian Arab Federation Tuesday night, Prime Minister Paul Martin was "bushwhacked," wrote columnist John Ibbitson in the Globe and Mail. Faraj Nakhleh, the federation's acting president, castigated Martin for observing in a recent speech that "Israel's values are Canada's values."
They are not, said Nakhleh, declaring that Israel breaks international law, and has a "questionable" human-rights record. He also thumped the government's anti-terrorist legislation which, he charged, abrogates human rights "to gain no more than a false sense of security."

Only the electorate, if they act quickly enough to regroup, will be able to save their heritage. If not they may have to ditch democracy for a while to serve themselves.

Then of course there is also this "filthy lucre" aspect which slowly is becoming more apparent as the fact hidden by that red herring " The Jewish desire to control the world":

If Saudi money can get into the country to support Muslim cultural and religious endeavors, is it beyond reason that it could find its way here to support Muslim political endeavors? If so, apparently not enough of it has arrived so far to affect Canadian foreign policy as regards Israel.
However, as the Quebec sponsorship scandal has so amply demonstrates, money plays a large role in Canada's Liberal party. So maybe this too can be "fixed."

The hideous fact of life in the United States (and the western world) regarding illegal and legal immigration, borders, national security, and the war on terror is that those issues are not simply issues of rational immigration policy, integrity of borders, or national security. In the dominant, all pervading western culture of self-destructive political correctness, all those life and death issues are, first and foremost, racial, CIVIL RIGHTS issues.

The west has effectively determined that it is the sacred birthright of any non-caucasian citizen of the third world to reside in any western nation of his choice. Any policy contrary to that doctrine is considered racist. Today, no western politician can survive the racist label (and remain viable).

Any policy that would restrict an arab muslim from taking up residence in a western nation is a non-starter in the United States or any other first world nation because it would be considered racist. Forget that the U.S. really doesn't need to import poor people who hate it!

Somehow, the west has seen fit to add Arabs, Persians and muslims in general to the pantheon of protected racial and ethnic catergories it has donned like a hair shirt and paraded about as a testiment to its enlightened, "non-racist" culture.

Unless the United States, and the western world as a whole, gets beyond its dysfunctional, self-destructive, and irrational devotion to politically correct racial pandering on a global scale, the problem of islamofascist infiltration cannot even begin to be addressed in a rational manner.

Oh that the bastards who want to kill us were scandanavians! We could slap those silly bitches around with impunity! Only in the movies.

Political correctness.... liberalism... multiculturalism... immigration....

Damn, if I had my head in the sand for the last five years, I'd SWEAR that the Liberals were to blame for all of this. Lucky for me, I know that Bush has had carte blanche from HIS Senate and HIS congress for quite a while now. So I think the question is, why don't the Republicans do something about immigration?

The answer is the same as the answer for all of the many, many republican "inconsistencies" with what their sheep think of as good, conservative policy: Saudi money.

But don't worry: Iraq is going to have yet another election in three weeks (and just look at the great promise of the "palestinian" elections!) and then, the Iraqis will stop killing GIs.

And "IF" they don't, DGene and the rest of the freerepublic spillovers can blame it all on Senator Kennedy and Kerry.

The suicidal policy of permitting mass Muslim immigration is simply part of the suicidal policy of permitting mass third world immigration. And no, there will be singling out of Muslims; to stop their influx all third world immigration must be curtailed including the largest single group that of Hispanics (my apologies to the cheap labor and social services lobbies). All supporters of JW should support immigration restrictionist organizations such as FAIR.

Every muslim, who wants to migrate to western countries carries with him a sacred dream of imposing his religion in that foriegn land at any cost.. For this ,he is prepared to tell thousand and one lies, cheat, kill, bomb, conspire, and pretend to be a hater of others' who do it'. and lastly act as suicide bomber. This 'dream' is that of not only of a few radical islamists(as they usually say) but of every muslim.. Our Immigration policies are so loose and so many vested interested persons are operating it. In spite of our Sep11 and 7/7,we have not yet become alert and careful.. In Canada, they employ lot of these guys in the immigration department, and fact is, most of the refugee staus immigrants are from islamic countries. Once these guys are in sizable majority, we have to be real Dhimmies under them. Now there is a good chance of Iraq refugees and Pakistan earth quake refugees to dominate in our immigration input. One thing is sure. When once they cross above 6% of the population, a big Trouble to that country. See the plight of France,Holland and UK.They will dictate terms to the government regrding matters faverable to them. And the government has to obey-Take for instance Uk. They demanded removal of a piggy bank pig's statue from a famous bank. They did it. When the famous filmaker of hollaand was brutally murdered by a muslim, the public wrote a note on the wall of the place of murder stating"thou shalt not kill'. This offended the muslims and they made the government to erase this. The more islamists-the more trouble. when will be realise it? Arab money plays a big part with our polititions, media, and scribes.Who knows- BBC,London mayer,my be few of the examples.

Hugh,

Perhaps, one strategy should be to plant, in leftist minds, the thought that Islam is an extremely right wing, intolerant religion.

Not just right wing, but extremely right wing.

Intolerantly right wing.

And a religion, too.

I have no idea what "right wing" or "left wing" mean except that those Infidels full of hatred for Western society, all the assorted misfits who apparently cannot find something else to preoccupy them, are the most susceptible to the siren song of Islam. Richard Reid, David Duke (he doesn't have to officially "revert"
but merely offer them aid and comfort), John Walker Lindh, and others -- each more grotesque and ludicrous than the next -- are a representative sampling.

But that Islam is totalitarian in its claims, that it imposes, or attempts to, a Complete Regulation of Life and a Total Explanation of the Universe, should be clear. And if you like that sort of thing, if you can't stand the messiness of existence or the sloppiness and imperfection of democracy or quasi-democracy, then Islam's the thing for you. Anyone who hankers for freedom, and not mental submission in every respect, is unlikely to be impressed by Islam. That doesn't mean such a person has to be thrilled by what is now on offer in the Western world, where the Market, and homo economicus, call the tune. But it does mean a willingness to see Islam as what it is, rather than identify the menace as some do, when seeking to keep available a rhetorical escape-hatch, they continue to use the word "extremist " or "
radical" Islam or "islamofascism" -- depending on whether they like to put their misleading modifiers and pseudo-nuancers fore, or aft. Both ways of failing to see Islam straight on turn out to be a bore, and daft.

Hugh,

Well then,

How about this one?

Perhaps, one strategy should be to plant, in liberal minds, the thought that Islam is an extremely conservative, intolerant religion.

Not just conservative, but extremely conservative.

Intolerantly conservative.

And a religion, too.

Hugh

Very good article. I especially liked the analogy with Mad Cow Disease. I've gotta ask the question though as I find this analogy truely ironic. Did you choose this disease as an example because like the ills that affect fanatical muslims, MCD is a disease that infects the brain?

I believe that Jim Gilchrist, running for the U.S. Congress, exemplifies those current few willing to tackle our immigration problem.

Better stick with the facts:

Islam is a violent, murderous cult, a geo-political, totalitarian ideology based on conquest and subjugation.

It is the status we afford them, at our peril, to accept (their) claims of it being a religion.

If we can -somehow- prove that Islam contains nothing in the way of spiritual enlightenment, that the 164 Jihad-verses in the Koran make it impossible for the believer to live in peace with the infidels, and that the hatred and the terror is what Islam teaches, if we could get at least a public enquiry and some support in the MSM, that might turn the tide.

But as long as we allow them, and we afford them the label of being a "religion" we will be chasing our own tails.

Don't.

Freedom is not the only valuable thing at stake here. The entire transcendental world of values on which all our basic assumptions (about man and his relation to his fellow man and to the Universe) are based, is entirely at risk.

Concepts much greater than simple "freedom" define more accurately what this war is all about. Concepts like Justice and Mercy, Wisdom and Compassion, Tolerance and Loving One's Neighbor As Oneself, and then on into "who is my neighbor?" In short, the foundation of our lives and everything we live by.

Still remain to be defended, are such foundational philosophical thoughts as the ultimate character of God; that it must be of the most profound Goodness. And that His Universe is based on Truth and that in order for the real concept of Justice to exist, there must also exist the concept of Mercy (which exists nowhere in Islam). Without Mercy there can be no Compassion and without Compassion, Wisdom cannot survive.

"...if we could get at least a public enquiry and some support in the MSM..."

Assuming that many in the MSM do lean 'left', or have a 'progressive' or 'liberal' mindset, what tactic would work best to encourage such an enquiry?

I don't believe that Islam will ever not be called a religion, for as a fact, it is understood throughout the world as a religion. And it is referred to as such.

We can't ignore that. But we can document the hatred and terror that Islam teaches in our efforts to encourage MSM enquiry of that religion.

What is happennig, all my postings have been removed from this site?? Why?

I wonder, if in the past, the musings of the about to be slaves in lands under attack by Islam, sounded somewhat like the comments here.

Papa Ray

Papa Ray says:
"I wonder, if in the past, the musings of the about to be slaves in lands under attack by Islam, sounded somewhat like the comments here."

I have been an amature military historian for most of my adult life but am just now exploring that time period when the West was most vulnerable to the muslim "final solution". Its a damned miracle that europe dodged the bullet (or the trebuchet) then. With all the back stabbing and dhimmi stupid intrigue that went on between Rome and the Byzantine Empire, it was a near-miss thing.

Even a whif of today's multi-culti, touchy-feely, new age, post modern, cutural relativism back then would have been enough to have insured that all those long-legged swedish blonds would be wearing head to toe burlap bags today (if, after almost a thousand years of muslim domination, the scandanavian gene pool was capable of producing a natural blond!).

Sadly, I understand that burqas are becoming more and more fashionable in Swedish cities like Malmo today, anyway. The threat to the world's source in scandanavia of "all-american" cover girl females alone should be enough to get our blood up!!!

In all seriousness, the jihad for world domination in the name of the one true god and his prophet has never ended for the muslims. It continues today and the consequences are no less unpleasant than they were 800 years ago. I do believe that, indeed, some comments of islam's past victims are, after hundreds of years, being uttered in present times by ordinary citizens alarmed at what is so obviously happening but not sufficiently recognized.

PRCS,

PC Leftists already know that Islam is a reactionary, ultra-right-wing, Puritanical system. This fact does nothing to alter the pathological irrationality of PC Leftists, who continue to think that Bushite evangelicals are a worse danger to the world, that America in general is a worse danger to the world, that the West in general is a worse danger to the world; and who continue to think that Muslim Puritanism is ethnically "cool" and aesthetically pleasing and fits in nicely with the wonderful rainbow and mosaic of ethnic cultures we should all embrace with multi-culturalist tolerance.

Back in the 1970s, the Christian Phalange of Suleiman Franjeih and the National Liberal Party of Camille Chomoun were indeed "right-wing" parties. They were nationalists in a sectarian sense, defending their land and their civilizational identity from Muslim-Left groups like the Progressive Socialist Party of Druze leader Kamal Jumblatt and Arafat's Fatah. Paradoxically, Syria's Assad sided with the Christians at that point in time...he most likely felt more threatened by a radical Muslim Lebanon with Arafat calling the shots than with the Christian-Muslim status quo.

Those who hope to enlist the Left in our own civilizational fight against Islam are as myopic as the Left itself, which is utterly ill-equipped to distinguish the nature and scope of the Islamic threat. Moderate Liberals may come aboard in fits and starts. These are the ones we should spend our efforts trying to educate. But education about Islamic intolerance must be augmented with a broader education on the crippling effects of Leftist constructs such as multiculturalism and political-correctness.

Well then, is public enquiry and support from the MSM possible?

If they are PC Leftists who already know that Islam is a reactionary, ultra-right-wing, Puritanical system, then perhaps not.

But, maybe some of them really are Moderate Liberals who may come aboard in fits and starts, and are the ones we should spend our efforts trying to educate.

Should I end my personal efforts in that regard, and concede defeat?

Reply to the poster immediately above: No. And No.

And how are you going to do that when you have bile, bilge, epithets, threats and accusations flowing out of the mouths of the Righteous "Religious" Right aka FREEPERS, like vomit out of a drunks mouth?

I'm educated, and a liberal, and a moderate and sometimes (not all of the time left - I'm also sometimes, but not all of the time Right) but having to endure the bilge pumped out on this blog by Gary, Kepha, Kemaste, Cornelius, Sonofwalker, etc makes it hard to stay focused on the threat of Islam.

And should any other Moderate, liberal or leftist log on to this blog, the moment they read the comments of most posters, they will leave convinced that instead of being educated they have been exposed to bile.

My two cents worth, it APPEARS that most posters are opportunists, and merely use the good auspices of this blog to continue their own personal JIHAD against some bug a boo, thatMike Weaner Savage,Rush LImbaugh and Pat Robertson have created called the Left.

Instead of uniting this country, the demigogues that tell you what to think, how to think and for whom you reflexively vote are dividing this country, and against your own best interests.

But ignore me and press on.. and I predict things will get worse and never get better, a house divided against itself cannot stand, and you can't fight a war on two fronts, especially when one of them is internal (and was started by those whom pull your strings)

To the poster two posts up,

Thank you. I think.

I hope the poster above had a chance to ponder the advice given at another thread. As for anyone who continues to rant about "leftists" or "right-wingers," many more posts are going to be deleted, and in some cases, the posters permanently prevented from returning. Not out of malice, but out of a desire to protect the site, and to make it as welcoming to as many people, whatever their points of view on all sorts of other things, who come here to find out about Islam. That is the hope. Less Thidwick the Big-Hearted Moose. More -- well, not the Wicked Witch of the West, but something just a little more demanding, and a lot more limiting.

Hugh, brilliant article, you are asking the questions that many are thinking have been thinking or should think.

This is truly a global struggle not just between Islam and the West but between Islam and the rest of the world.

this is not a class of civilizations but a clash of Muslim civilization and the rest of the world.

I will share your words with as many people as I can.

RBLA, as an American of Hispanic decent. I agree 100%.

I am grateful to this country for allowing me to emigrate and think the safety and security of America comes first.

Stop illegal immigration!

Close the borders!

Save this country.

Should I end my personal efforts in that regard, and concede defeat?

A more pertinent reply would be:

No, and no -- but learn what it is you are fighting. To paraphrase what Robert Spencer tells us again and again, if we say there is no problem, the problem will never be solved.

There is a problem of PC Leftism that bears directly on the problem of Islam. Neither one will be solved by denying it exists.

Your hatred toward a religon because your administration(which is a theocracy) is telling you to start a crusade against people, against familes, against people who want oppurtunity. You are worse than aryan nation, the reason i say that is because they have accepted islam( which you obviously have not). This should show you, and the rest of the good people at heart, that in this world of the exchanging of ideas, and fight toward a common oppressor, you have not changed in your primative mindset. Your hatred toward islam, arabs, and any non-christan is the ignornat propoganda that has been put into your mind by the zionists folk which wants you to create killing fields, so in the end they dont have blood on there hands. the real enemy is facism ,and zionism. I blame zionism because it is the same type of oppresion that hitler put on the jews. you might say its there land. So i would bring the senario that in my religous text that i have made up its say that your house is mine and i will let you live in one room, but you cant step in my part without getting shot. you would get mad, you would not say it your house i will leave. This is the real reason of suside bombing is because of oppresion, not becausee of islam. I belive that if you understand islam you will find thing unacceptable in this society, but rember islam is alot more younger than christanity. I can also give you a time where your conservative ideology was acceptable a time long ago, but now our society, and our way of life hase found more peacful ways of dealing with things. This time was from the beinging of this country all the ways to the 1960's. With islam, and many countrys in the middle east, someone divided them for profit, England, amerika , and most of the western world.

Dr. Pepper,

Do you have children?

a.p.p.l.e.

In spite of the fact that I absolutely cannot speak, read, or write a single word of Urdu, Farsi, Arabic, or what the hell ever your native language is (a fact that I am not particularly proud of), I have to tell you...your post is delivered in really crappy English!!! I know, I have to admit your English is a hell of alot better than my ... whatever the hell it is you speak at home, and I have to give you credit for the effort but honestly, pal, I had to read that one, damned longest run together sentence I have ever seen at least ten times before I realized that I still don't know what you said!! Help me out here.

Me Amerika..like England and most of western world. Me good or bad?? Me gotta know. Me not muslim. You muslim. Me infidel. Must me die???
Must me pay dhimmi tax? Me no make zionist killing field at present? Me just live in religion hating theocracy worse than aryan nation.?!..? Maybe. Nice you let me have one of of your rooms. Me kinda pissed that your religious text say my house is yours, though. Don't understand shooting part but don't like it anyway.

Me really relieved that suside bombing is only for opression, not islam. That make me happy. Maybe make zionist happy too! Now me get it. Amerika aryan, religious hating theocracy peaceful, at heart.

Also, me not want to wait hundreds of years for younger islam to be like christianity and find more peaceful ways of dealing with things. Christianity no suside bomb for long, long time. Me no remember christian suside bomb. How me get rid of hatred zionist put in my mind?

Also, since me Amerika, you think England and rest of western world are cheating me out of profit from dividing islam and many countries in middle east? Me not get single lousy riyal or dinar from that deal!

Said well, you.

PRCS,

What does having children have to do with the issue at hand?

THw6kds,

It's pointless to even poke fun at, let alone argue with, such an a.p.p.l.e. whose mind is so much an incoherent mush of cobbled-together leftovers he will never recognize the barrelful of bad apples of Islam nor enjoy our wonderfully cooking American Pie.

Dr. Pepper,

It is obvious that our opinions do not mesh. But I can assure you that as a 55 year old military retiree, I am aware of what I have fought, and what I fight today.

In addition, my subscription to the San Francisco Chronicle keeps me up to speed on the PCL that bears on the problem with Islam -- I've never denied that the problem exists. I simply see the solution differently than you.

If you wish to engage in a friendly and collaborative chat, I'm amenable.

But if your intention is to lecture or demean, please direct such comments elsewhere.

Thank you.

Rebecca,

That post of yours was as poignant as anything ever offered here. I would only suggest that freedom is the seed that made possible the flowering of our civilization. Anyway, thank you for such a moving and original sentiment.

As for Hugh's threat to excommunicate those who emphasize the Left-Right divide, let me just say that I for one am not about to self-censor myself to accommodate a new JW/DW political-correctness policy. This is everything we are fighting against.

The Left has constructed the Trojan Horse - multiculturalism - that has made an honest exposition of Islamic intolerance impossible in our mainstream institutions. In our desperate search for answers, we here at JW/DW are now expected to avoid such a important facet of the overall picture so as not to offend.

We haven't heard from Robert on the subject, so I'm reserving judgment. Perhaps Hugh is a bit intoxicated with his power here and has over-stepped his prerogatives. Or perhaps he and Robert have come to a decision.

I may be slated for oblivion on these pages, but I will never stop speaking out against the Left and the common cause it has made with our enemies in undermining Western security and intellectual freedom.

Folks, please read David Horowitz's 'Unholy Alliance; Radical Islam and the American Left'...it lays it all out in chilling and concise detail.

Rebecca,

I just wanted to comment a bit further on your excellent post.

A capacity for "mercy and compassion" stem from conscious choices available within the parameters of the human soul. "Wisdom" is the accumulation of understanding regarding the outcomes of choices.

Even the dispensation of "justice" is a choice of sorts...whether making individual judgments in our daily lives or collective judgments in our society, we are consigned to choices that stem from our basic values and ethos.

I personally believe that our choices in life define us...that how we use what "freedom" we have is the basis for all human morality. In essence, when our freedom is removed, when our choices are unduly narrowed or eliminated, then mercy, compassion, wisdom and justice...become mearly manifestations of instinctive behavior if they are available at all.

If Muslims were granted but a single freedom, the right to apostasy, then I'm convinced the entire ediface of Islam would crumble.

Never underestimate the value of freedom.

PS - I can't believe you've flown under my radar up until now. I've read many of your offerings, but none struck me as did your posting above. You are obviously a woman of substance and depth.

There are always those who have a Single Book or Single Message or Single Explanation for things. For several posters above, the Thing You Need To Know, and Need to Know More Than Ever, is All About "The Left." And for at least one poster above, there is a Single Truth, and that Truth is laid out, so perfectly and completely, in a book:

"Folks, please read David Horowitz's 'Unholy Alliance; Radical Islam and the American Left'...it lays it all out in chilling and concise detail."

Then there are other posters -- such names as "Nariz" and "kj" come to mind -- who tend to be enantiomorphs of some of those above. They find that the Single Explanation for the Failure to Understand or Confront the Menace of Islam is quite different. They see it as a conpsiracy of those connected to the large corporations, especially oil companies, and the arms-manufacturers, who have had such close ties to the Saudis.

For one group it is "multiculturalism" which has deprived Americans of any common sense and any conceivable comprehension that perhaps Islam may be a menace in what it inculcates about Infidels. Thus, we have mixed up in one witches' brew Noam Chomsky, Ward Churchill, and the entire membership of the Modern Language Association, the American Historical Associationi, and every single faculty member in every single department everywhere. And for the second group, the enemy is ARAMCO, all those well-paid lawyers and lobbyists and former political figures whose natural sympathies (James Baker, John Connally, all sorts of ex-diplomats and intelligence agents), has made them part of the corporate Saudi lobby.

At another thread, I offered some advice to one of the posters ("Nariz") who is inclined to the latter school of thought -- that it's all or mostly a matter of Big Business. At that thread I suggested, more or less, the following:

"Try to dislike even more people than you do. It will make you a better person."

In the particular context -- although these are definitely Words to Live By -- I meant: try to see that there are all sorts of people, and currents of thought, that explain the failure to understand Islam. Something called laziness which, for example, must account for many of those who keep refraining, Bright Young Conservatives and Bright Young Liberals alike, similar in their hectic careerism, who cannot be bothered to study, even for a week, the contents of Qur'an, Hadith, and Sira, much less read a single book by Bat Ye'or, or any of those by Spencer which are deliberately intended for a mass audience. Something called timidity, which forces some to continue to descrive Islam as a "great religion" of "tolerance" and "peace" -- a phrase used, assorted denouncers of "the Left" might ponder, associated not with that "Left" but with George Bush and Condoleeza Rice and company.

Stupidity is not limited to a single party or tendency. Whole lot of stupidity going around. The entire discussion of Iraq, which avoids the real issues, and the real mistakes that are the product of real misconceptions--whatever the position of that socratic obstetrical bed (high or low or Trendelenburg) -- turns out not to be quite so rewardingly maieutic after all.

Again, a word to the wiser when it comes to apportioning blame (and so little praise):

"Try to dislike even more people than you do. It will make you a better person."

Well Hugh, what do you think the main reasons are for the abandonment of the people by world leaders in the face of rising Islam in our world, for the deliberate turning to look the other way by this administration when it comes to illegal immigration and the strong promotion by the PC mentality crowd that we who are opposed to this way of life are hate mongers quilty of racist crimes?

Stupidity and Cupidity are the two most powerful forces on earth. How they work out in practice, the ways in which both Stupidity and Cupidity all over the Infidel world, so as to avoid seeing the menace of Islam, and to listen instead to the siren-songs and disinformation provided by all kinds of sources, whether those who edit magazines full of ARAMCO or Saudi propaganda (which helps pay the bills for all sorts of ex-diplomats who are completely uninterested in "multiculturalism" but very interested in what Arab money can buy) or those who have so steadily infiltrated, and virtually control (sometimes merely by intimidating those who know better, but are afraid to antagonize in any way their Muslim colleagues), many university and college departments of Middle-Eastern or Islamic studies.

And Stupidity and Cupidity are not limited to this or that party. George Bush Senior pocketed something like a cool million for a single speech given in Kuwait (Kuwait's way of thanking the American soldiers was to give George Bush Sr. a million dollars). And just the other day Bill Clinton delivered a speech in Dubai, for a large sum of money (he had also given the "Faris Lecture," endowed by an Arab, at the Fletcher School -- oh, he's very good at picking up Arab honoraria here, there, and everywhere), saying that the war in Iraq was a "mistake" and essentially apologizing for it. It is one thing to deplore the Light-Unto-the-Muslim-Nations Project, and quite another to insist that the use of force originally was entirely unjustified, entirely irrational, as Clinton did.

And it is not only a question of honoraria to political figures, or hiring everyone and his brother (the Kennedy pparatchik Fred Dutton was for a long time the director of Saudi public relations in this country), former Senator McGovern, former Senator Abourezk (but that should be no surprise, should it?), and all sorts of others have been recipients of large amounts of money from the Middle East. Richard Perle and Douglas Feith, on the other hand, have been agents of Turkey, and of course Perle still loyally goes to bat when asked, to persuade Europeans to drop their opposition to Turkish admission to the E.U.

Stupidity.
Cupidity.

And sometimes, a large helping of both.

Hugh,

Cowardice is totally understandable in some of our leaders. But if you're telling me they are selling us out for money, oh my gosh, I need a break from this for a little while so I can gain some energy to comprehend this.

Well, ask yourself this question. If there were no oil revenues, had never been any oil revenues, would there be lots of mosques all over the Western world, gleeming imposingly and making Islam outwardly more attractive? Would there me a small army -- no, make that a large army -- of apologists for Islam? Would there be the academic Centers for thisandthat, paid for with Arab money, or the chairs at universities named after assorted rich Arab donors, or after those they so admired (e.g. the King Abdul Aziz Chair, the Edward Said Chair), with those sitting on those chairs promoters of Arab and Muslim views and propaganda? Answer: No.

Hugh actually asks himself the questions: "What makes Gert Wilder 'right-wing'...or Hirshi Ali."

Does anyone remember that Hirshi Ali was originally a member of the Dutch Labor (socialist) Party? But there was no place for her there because she spoke out against Muslim immigration....just as Hugh Fitzgerald rightly speaks out against Muslim immigration on these pages. Hirshi Ali was forced to find a home in the opposition Liberal (conservative) Party...a party that embraced her and provides her a platform for her advocacy of freedom.

Hirshi Ali and Gert Wilders cannot exist inside the Left-wing world of multiculturalism and political correctness....where Islam, by virtue of the fact that it emanated from a part of the world that is non-European, is given a free pass in spite of its pathological violence and global ambitions. Hugh of all people should understand this. But he has blinded himself to the fact that whatever the sins of conservatives in their policies vis-a-vis the Islamic world, it is the Left that validates Islam IDEOLOGICALLY and therefore systemically.

QUESTION: If there is no fundamental difference between Left and Right, why does the Right provide Hirshi Ali and Gert Wilders with a platform for their views, where as the Left refuses to?

Hugh,

I see where you're going with this. But what is President Bush's main motivation here? What does all that money do for him? That's the one I haven't quite figured out yet.

Neither Bush nor anyone else in his administration strikes me as involved in the present or future promise of recycling petrodollars. But the atmosphere which one breathes, and in which until recently it was hard to see Saudi Arabia as anything but an "ally" or even "a staunch ally" when it has never ever been anything but a mortal enemy of all Infidels (right back to that famous meeting on an aircraft carrier between Ibn Saud and Roosevelt, always shown as an example of that "special relationship" that, in truth, was entirley a figment of ARAMCO's perfervid imagination), certainly has affected many. And James Baker has been a recipient, or rather his modestly-titled Baker Institute, with that party-line State-Department hack Djerejian, who likes to tell everyone that "everyone knows wat an Isareli-Palestinian settlement will have to look like" -- that "everyone knows" gambit is losing its plausibility day by Jihad Awareness Day.

It isn't a case of quid pro quo. Saudi and other Arab money just flows and flows. Corporations know there are contracts to be signed. And if you are a European company, don't forget all the extra money to be made through bribes and kickbacks (harder to accept in these prim and proper United States). Diplomats know that if they play their cards right while still in office, as Prince Bandar once said, once they are out of office they can go to work for the Saudis).

In Bush's case, a failure -- not his alone, but that of almost everyone else -- to study up on Islam, and his sentimental belief that anything called a "religion" must, simply must, be worthy of respect, help to explain his failure to realize the pointlessness of the Iraqi venture if the goal is defined correctly as one of weakening Islam, its appeal, its internal cohesion.

As far as Cupidity and Stupidity go -- well, in the case of the Bush Administration, a medium-sized portion of each. Same with the Clinton Administration, and shallow, carney-barker and smooth-talking mountebank Bill Clinton. Few have been blameless. Find those few, and support them.

Hugh, while it is true that their are serious failings of this administration, both on borders and on identifying of the source of Jihad, Cornelius is right when he says that the left validates Islam ideologically.

Multiculturalism and the assault on our traditional values have weakened our society and this has allowed Islam to assault the 'West.

Cornelius the right is not one monolithic structure, the open borders, global economy, pro business at all costs, sees Islam as an opportunity for a sale.
Identifying the nature of Islam my interfere with commerce and this explains presidents Bush's waffling with terminology "a few extremists", "islamo-fascists". but not ISLAM. They have no problem seeing the hot jihad of Osama Bin laden. but fail completely with the Saudi funded hidden jihad.

The greatest resistance from the right comes from cultural conservatives ( of which I am one) because their religious inspired defense of Western values is a natural bulwark to Islam's designs.

Cornelius, it is true that the social conservatives at present offer the best umbrella to shelter those that see Islam's threat, but in principle the feminist, pro-gay rights and atheist left could and should also be a natural enemy of sharia and the Koran. What keeps them from join the fight for freedom from the designs of the Ummah,?, My guess is the swengali effect of Multi-culti.

Cornelius, As much as I dislike it, I realize that we must put the cultural war on hold, not the criticism of multicultural rot, but any disagreement we my have with other left - right issues.

We need every sector of society and every religion and culture on earth to join in the fight against the Islamization of our world.

Let's find common ground on shared western values and fight Islamic creep together.

The pro-business, global economy right must realize that it's not just "war on terror" but a struggle with a way of life based on Islam that believes it should impose it's world view of submission on all of us. We can not think only of profits and as a consequence finance the enemy.

The globalization right must realize that you can fix demographic problems with uncontrolled immigration of hostile Muslim peoples. I am thinking of the
Economist magazine crowd and It's myopic attack on religion and Oriana Fallaci.

The left must stop the hypocrisy of preaching human and feminine rights and ignoring the must anti of both, Islam.

LET'S REACH OUT TO THOSE ON THE LEFT THAT

Renounce, multiculturalism as it pertains to Islam and voice genuine critique of the horrible anti-feminist beliefs and practices of Islam.

Hugh your point is that big oil is the one theme that has more mosques built in the west.. the oil greases the palms of mulims?
so what is your point about oil? do we all stop driving cars.. my business l need large vans ...
you want us to drive these small suicide hy-bred cars? if you do not want us to be beholden to muslims for oil..give the oil companies access to oil in the artic, off the coasts..(US).. build more refineries.. atthe same time let economic policies with tax breaks create energy that is user friendly.. that is driving cars/trucks/vans/suvs... or you want us to stake up tents and eat by the campfire?

For safe Westrn Immigration, the hard working chinese are waiting. 2. The Philipanos are waiting 3.The much persecuted Christians of Pakistan (about 12 millions) are waiting. 4. The Labanese christians 5. The Goaths of Egypt(much persecuted) 6.Non-Muslim Africans of Africa7. Hindus,Sikhs, and bhudists are waiting.
Apart from hard working, these people will be ever faithful to you and feel greatful for your accomodating them. Have you ever heard of any trouble from these people in any western country so far? Why,Oh Why you import these lazy, ungreatful ,evil minded islamists, who thrive on your welfare, beget more children like pigs, and always plan to kill your people and tople your government and impost their evil religion on you?
