Europe, welcome to your future. Another Eurabia update: a group that has been characterized as an Al-Qaeda recruiting ground is planning to build a massive mosque in London for the 2012 Olympics. This mosque will be so big, it will hold more people than Fenway Park. With its surrounding buildings, it will be bigger than almost every American stadium. A MASSIVE mosque that will hold 40,000 worshippers is being proposed beside the Olympic complex in London to be opened in time for the 2012 Games.
The project’s backers hope the mosque and its surrounding buildings would hold a total of 70,000 people, only 10,000 fewer than the Olympic stadium.Its futuristic design features wind turbines instead of the traditional minarets, while a translucent latticed roof would replace the domes seen on most mosques. The complex is designed to become the “Muslim quarter” for the Games, acting as a hub for Islamic competitors and spectators.
“It will be something never seen before in this country. It is a mosque for the future as part of the British landscape,” said Abdul Khalique, a senior member of Tablighi Jamaat, a worldwide Islamic missionary group that is proposing the mosque as its new UK headquarters.
Tablighi Jamaat has come under scrutiny from western security agencies since 9/11. Two years ago, according to The New York Times, a senior FBI anti-terrorism official claimed it was a recruiting ground for Al-Qaeda. British police investigated a report that Mohammad Sidique Khan, leader of the July 7 London bombers, had attended its present headquarters in Dewsbury, West Yorkshire. In August, Bavaria expelled three members of the organisation on the grounds that it promoted Islamic extremism.

The estimated cost of the mosque is £100 million.
Although donations are being sought, it does not estimate the how much of this expense will be squeezed out of the poor London council tax payers. What proportion of the spectators will be Muslim rather than members of other faiths, and how will these others be catered for?
It seems that the what this is really about is Livingstone canvassing the Islamic vote as well as being extravagant as usual. Londoners will be still paying for the Olympics thirty years afterwards.

Indeed. If the menace is, ultimately, the spread of Islam until it covers the globe, and Islam dominates everywhere, and Muslims rule, than the most successful group to conduct Da'wa is in the end more dangerous to Infidels than Al Qaeda, which so excites those so exclusively interested in the "war on terror."
While it is always an honor to have Hugh's concurrence on an opinion, I feel I should clarify my point. Hugh is correct that the group that conducts Da'wa most successfully is the most dangerous in the long run, and Tablighi Jamaat has been very successful at Da'wa. However, Tablighi Jamaat is covered in blood beneath the smiling mask. One need only read its publications to understand that it has no objections to violence when it serves its purpose, and per the tenets of Islam, it has no reason to object to violence in the cause of Allah. In simplest terms, where there is Tablighi Jamaat, there also are men who are committed to murder and mayhem, are planning for it, and are supporting it elsewhere. Despite the smiling faces, they will kill you now with bombs and bullets, or kill you later as a dhimmi. To allow them into your midst is to invite violence and death into your house. Regrettably, it is too late to bar the door to this guest, but not too late to make them very, very uncomfortable.
A sign of the times of European dhimmitude. England would do good to put a stop to it now, but we all know that's not going to happen. A very large building on the landscape, one that would attract tourists and large crouds, turns out to be a mosque funded by a terrorist organization. With a triumphalist mosque being built and warmly, multiculturally accepted into the bosom of England, and Tariq Ramadan having tea with Blair, and dozens of other outrageous examples of "sensitivity" to Muslims after Londoners get mass-murdered by Muslims -- where's the slightest sign of the slightest bit of discomfort anywhere on this atrocious horizon, let alone of making them "very, very uncomfortable"?

I originally wrote something to the effect of, "It is too late to bar the door, but not too late for defenestration, should the British finally have the will for it." Perhaps that is closer to the diction you were looking for. It is certainly closer to the outcome that I would wish for. I regret any confusion my excision caused.
I suspect a mosque of that size to be sheer fantasy, tossing off of an Islamic variety. Tablighi Jamaat, however, is no fantasy, but a virulent infestation. I wanted to draw attention to that--the danger it poses is not only the slowly accumulating poison of Da'wa, but the immediate, violent threat of jihad. If you have them in your house, you have trouble of the worst sort, and it should be confronted by stout hearts and armed men at every opportunity.

Oh, guys, I think you're putting the wrong spin on this. I think this is an absolutely fantastic idea! If this is indeed the "hub" of all Islamic activity during the Games, and British Intelligence have every inch of the damn thing bugged, then just maybe another Munich can be avoided. In the end I don't think its such a bad idea. It will be like a giant cattle market or more appropriately a smelly cess pool where the scum will congregate. Isn't it better? One thing I would be concerned about would be where is the money coming from to fund such a large venture. Through the greasy philanthropic purses of the Saudis no doubt? You may have a point. Somewhere here I have a batch of photos my husband took during a short holiday in Israel in 1992. One is of the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem which was undergoing renovation at the time. Not by Wimpys (we import more Paddies every year)but by another quality Irish firm, Murphys, whose banner was strung across the dome to great effect. We were told that they were the world's best at the gold leaf effect on the dome.
I am certain that the minaret (which I think is fake as I can see nowhere for a muezzin to call out from) on the Mosque near the cemetery where my parents are buried is an upturned missile. I expect to hear "You will not stop me Mr Bond" every time I see it.
Several years ago, when I was still under the naive impression that the Brits didn't despise Americans as much as the rest of Europe, my little bubble was burst by a rude, obnoxious, sanctimonious British poster on a message board. This guy, who claimed to speak for the majority of Brits, regurgitated the most venomous and hostile assertions about America and Americans regularly. According to him, we have never done anything noble and our entire history is riddled with miserable failures, unprovoked attacks on innocent nations, genocide, terrorism, racism, a foreign policy of rapacious exploitation and theft of the world's wealth and resources---you name the atrocity and we're guilty. He was an historical revisionist extraordinare and one of those maddening people who would never back down, even when presented with ample evidence that proved him wrong.
He was very convincing, authoritative, and confident, daring anyone to disagree or dispute his "facts." I tried arguing with him for a while, but finally quit wasting my time and began responding to his mendacious invective with pithy one-liners or brief rejoinders. My new tactic enraged him and he started emailing me, sending missives replete with the most vile and profane threats imaginable. I'm not one to censor free speech or tattle to the TOS board, so I finally blocked him and that was the end of that. But something he said still lingers in my mind and puzzles me.
He was comparing his government to ours, insisting that Americans have no control over their government while averring that the British government existed to serve the wishes of its constituents, the British voters. He emphatically asserted that the will of the people was always carried out by British elected representatives and that they were temporary public servants with little or no individual power. The topic of discussion was muslims in London, which many posters were not too happy about and this was a British message board. I guess my question, which is directed at the British posters here, is: how do the British people feel about the large muslim population and the way the British government coddles muslims? If this proposed mosque becomes reality, would that mean that the British people are in favor of it? If the majority objected to its construction, would it make any difference? Just curious.

As to the general question about the British people, I don't know. I supect the average Brit loves Muslims a great deal less than the British government seems to.
If the mosque becomes reality, it doesn't necessarily mean the British people are in favor of it. Most people aren't in favour of a lot of what happens. Most will not even have heard of it unless there is a big stink. (The Times has not that big a circulation. I read it online and missed the story, which was not, I think, headlined on the web).
As to the majority objecting to its construction, they can't really. I suppose they could demonstrate or write to their MP but this probably will not happen. Short of huge outrage, I suspect it's all down to the local planning authority and even they aren't technically influencable by general objections.
I'm no planning lawyer but I think only local people can object and the range of objections may be limited ie I don't want a huge mosque on my doorstep might not do. And I think much of East London has a special authority relating to Olympic type constructions - though I would not have thought a presumably permanent mosque would count under this.

The Front Page article points out that France and the UK took nearly opposite positions as to how to deal with waves of immigrants, and both approaches--segregation and multiculturalism--haven't worked too well.
For a nation to be a nation, there needs to be a unified culture. Over the last 30 years, worldwide, we've seen the erosion and near dissolution of the concept of unified culture in almost every Western nation.
So now we can expect a gigantic mosque in the heart of London--a structure which will tower over Big Ben, long the visual symbol of England. Wanna bet on if Prince Charles attends some kind of opening ceremony at the mega mosque? Maybe he'll even wear some Islamic clothing.

At the end of the day we don’t tell the Moslems what to believe and tolerate a huge amount being the tolerant society that we are.
We are fed up of being told what to believe and do by them. We are generally not opposed to them but if they want to turn Britain into a backwater like north west frontier province of Pakistan we would rather die preventing it than accepting it.
I can’t think of a British person that I know who would agree to carrying an ID card so submitting to Islam is not going to happen.

Sadly we have a state school system in Britain which strives to produce unthinking robots programmed to think the word initiative has one syllable too many to be taken seriously and duty is a concept best left in the dark ages.
I base this on observation and it depresses me.

I was pleasantly surprised when people managed to see through the statement by the BBC that the police were looking for members of gang that was not made up entirely of Somalis in connection with killing a WPC: We were not supposed to think if this country had any common sense all Somalis would be removed hence trying to downplay Somali involvement.
The authorities are trying very hard here to lie to us and we know it. We can see Islam is a danger and we will have to pay with blood for our freedoms thanks to the Politically Correct Gestapo et al.

I understand that the Eid festival in one British town attracts yobs from all over the country and local people suffer sleepless nights and virtual imprisonment while the police are stretched; yobs drive recklessly, hang out around the Asian shops setting of fire crackers and looking for trouble and to pull. They know. How could they not? There is nothing to multiculturalism that is about the upholding of values. There is no 'better' or 'worse', there is only difference, and no one is to make any judgement on those differences. To conclude that one is 'better' than the other, is to be ethnocentric, to be tyrannical, and deserves to be shunned, derided, and spat upon. How can someone promote a philosophy like that and not know it's meaning? They don't just divide along racial lines, they divide along any line, any line that has no value. There is black culture, there is white culture, the is deaf culture, there is gay culture, there is women culture, there is ethnic culture, there is division after division after division based on nothing but trivialities: the fact that one is deaf, that one is blind, that one is gay, that one is woman, that ones skin is black, that one has a big nose, each to be lauded, and each no better and no worse than any other. A culture is to be lauded as long as it makes no judgement; as long as it doesn't revere the use of ones mind; as long as it is without reason; as long as it is mindless. How can someone who promotes that philosophy not know its meaning and its end? Anyone who consciously promotes that philosophy can only have one aim in mind - to rule over others. Perhaps they never foresaw the Islamists ruling over them.
