Muslim leaders, defying the well-established fact that the riots in France have nothing to do with Islam, order the rioters to desist in the name of Allah. The mainstream media in the United States obligingly looks the other way. It will be interesting to see if the rioters heed this call after ignoring calls for calm from Chirac and other non-Muslim French authorities.

There is nothing remotely sinister, as is obvious to any normal, non-crazed with anti-Muslim zeal person, about *Arab* Imams' calls carrying weight with an *Arab* population, just as there'd be nothing sinister about a black Baptist's calls carrying weight during the LA riots.

The Muslims have won. The victors have established their authority over the Muslim territories. The infidel has been humiliated and forced to pay the jizya. It is a difficult situation the Muslims find themselves in. If they heed the Koran, they will continue to fight the infidels but may finally arouse the French anger and resentment (if possible). If they listen to the Imams who are asking for calm and order, they may be guilty of shirk, abandoning jihad, whatever.
Islam is making French life intolerable, but it makes life even worse for the Muslim. I think the Western powers should show true love to the Muslim by forcibly converting him to Christianity.
Besides, I get the impression that Muslims know they worship a pagan god. If they live in the West, they've seen the research that shows Allah is really Baal or Molech - just another rock with a face and a crescent moon carved on it.

Having just finished his PIG on Islam and the Crusades, I can assure you I'm no more "roused" than I was before reading it. Informed, yes. Roused, no. Robert's book uses peaceful passages from Jesus Christ as one of his rhetorical devices. If you want to rouse rabble, I'd pick another historical figure.

He's one of the very few people who is brave enough to spell out the situation the world faces in a reasoned, well researched, well argued manner. He has always made it very clear that he abhors incitement to violence or acts of aggression. That is precisely why he is alerting us to the dangers posed by a faith that is anything but peaceful. Wouldn't it be nice to believe that the 'kids' rioting in France are just unheeded youngsters who don't get the breaks of their affluent white counterparts. That their 'anger' is all about social and economic deprivation and that they'd put down their petrol cans and take up study and hard work if only French society would treat them as equals. Just pour in a few more Euros, do some community arts projects, give some more Arabs/North Africans jobs in the media. That will do the trick. Oh yes - ditch that bad idea of French assimilation and take up English ideas of 'multiculturalism' or American ideas of diverse citizenship. As Chekhov once remarked when a doctor has too many remedies it usually means there isn't a cure. I see we have yet another moral equivalencer here, though not quite of the KingTolerance sort.
There are a few possibilities here, including your suggestion that the imams cited above calling for calm are just doing what any Christian clerics might done in a parallel situation, but also, that these imams were happy to receive a stippend from the French government by apparently acting in accordance with the "new rules" that preaching hatred, myscogeny and jihad will get them punted from the country, and thought they could further entrench their power position by orchestrating unrest, then quelling it.
The (moral equivalence) difference between the former and the latter: so far as I know, we've never had a such a blight of clerics from other faiths known to foment social unrest to the breadth and depth we've seen from Muslim clerics, particularly those on the Saudi payroll. So if suspicions are being raised, it's not without cause, especially when we know how given Islamists are to orchestrating social unrest when they think it is to their advantage (think the Intifadas in Israel, the Jenin massacre that wasn't and the Mohammed El-Durra fraud).

The new Old Europe
Perhaps the biggest absurdity, at the moment, is the continuing, somewhat distracted response of the international media -- especially the French media -- to the revolution that has begun in France. They persist in characterizing the revolutionists as “disadvantaged French youth”, and pretend their uprising has only incidentally to do with Islam.
I see Dominique de Villepin -- the French prime minister who, as foreign minister, was so generous with advice to the U.S. and Israel -- has now prepared the rewards package for the rioters. Lots of new spending on social services and "opportunities" programmes in the 751 “sensitive urban zones” -- which is the official state euphemism for Muslim ghettoes. Also, special favours for the imams who agree to sign limp-wristed fatwas against rioting after curfew. This is a joke, I refuse to report it seriously.
And part of the joke is that, since long before they were born, the Muslim young raised in these ghettoes were in fact prevented from getting the usual sorts of jobs, and thereby insinuating themselves into bourgeois French society. And this because the powerful, leftwing unions of France -- themselves quite willing to riot for results -- have long since achieved 30-hour weeks, high pay, and perpetual employment for three-quarters of the labour force. It is an arrangement, secured in a form of “social contract” with the French state, that shuts out everyone else. Tamper with THAT, and the rest of France will be back on the streets.
The story is roughly similar through the rest of what Donald Rumsfeld acutely called “Old Europe”. Not exactly similar: the postmodern German economic model, for instance, welcomes Muslim immigrants as “Gastarbeiters” -- people to do the kind of work that Germans feel too good for. What has made France the seat of the Islamist Revolution in Europe, is the sheer number of unassimilated people, their explosive birth rate, and levels of unemployment that leave the young free to imbibe contemporary Islamism.
Their ostracism from French society is completed by overt racialism. The contrast between the hypocritical liberalism of French public speech, and the overt racialism of private behaviour, is such as no North American will fully comprehend. We come from the society of the melting pot. The European melting pot froze and hardened -- quite literally, more than a thousand years ago. And that racialism is mutual. What the Muslims feel for their aging French “hosts” -- whom they consider to be perverts, by every Islamic standard -- is expressed by the way they torch their cars.
The joke is completed because, except for the odd media-savvy poseur, the rioters aren’t asking for improved welfare arrangements. They are asking e.g. for Nicolas Sarkozy’s head. They want French policemen dead. They are demanding that the French state recognize that parts of France are “Islamic territory”. They want French laws replaced with Sharia. And their chant, in each of the many hundred locations where the rioting continues every night, is “Allahou Akhbar! Allahou Akhbar!” It is impossible to imagine a more complete disconnect between them and the French society that is now looking for ways to appease them.
And they will not be appeased -- any more than the Palestinians will be appeased, by anything short of the disappearance of Israel. I do not even think de Villepin’s extravagant offer to hurl money will make things worse. It will have no effect whatever. The rioting will stop and start, for the rioters’ own tactical reasons, like the West Bank Intifada. It is not “senseless”.
It is anyway too late to change the entire approach of the French state to the assimilation of Muslim immigrants. Nor, had it been much different, do I think the result would have been different. For the deeper reality is that France has become a moral and demographic vacuum. It has become, in the main, a pagan, childless, hedonistic country, in which there will be a Muslim majority within two generations. (Already, at least 40 per cent of the children born in French hospitals are to Muslim parents.) On present trends, the Islamicization of France, within the lifetime of most of my readers, is inevitable.
Egypt, too, was once a Christian country. And generations after the arrival of the Arabs, there were Egyptians who could not imagine it any other way. But whereas it took about five centuries to Islamicize Coptic Egypt, it will take less than one to Islamicize postmodern France.
It is against this background reality, that the riots happening today across France must be considered. They are a turning point, not only in France but all Europe. For the “moral and demographic vacuum” I mentioned above, is not in France alone. The same cultural deathwish prevails in Spain, Italy, Germany, the Low Countries, Britain, Scandinavia -- and Canada, by the way. It is called “multiculturalism” in this generation, but in another generation will be called something else.

The 'subtle point' spect8or may be trying to make is proving his his utter and embarrassing ignorance - spelled out for all to read and laugh at... I'm sure now that he's posted this ludicrous and incriminating peice of stupidity, he'd love nothing more than to take it back... I LOVE it when someone illustrates in such bombastic terms the depths of their ignorance and general silliness... Too stupid to comprehend how stupid he is... BTW, I remember hearing many exhortations during the LA riots from clergy -- but they usually appealed to common decency and didn't need to quote chapter and verse to convey their message of non-violence. It wasn't necessary because even the rioters knew what they were doing was wrong... The Imams, as has been discussed, exhorted loophole filled Islamic law in their so called "fatwa" -- in a very SINISTER fashion left gaping loopholes for interpretation as to exactly what "blindly" and "innocent" meant, AND deliberately neglected mentioning French laws or common human decency. We can partially surmise from all the violence, hatred, and ragefulness that Muslims are typically embroiled in, notions such as repecting secular laws and common human decency don't seem to get much traction... So, in short, there was a BIG difference between the actions of American Clergy in the LA Riots, and the actions of these seditious Imams, but clod-headed marginalities like Spect8or probably don't have the capacity to understand the subtlety of this argument.
They take their cue from the Administration, and have since 2001. When the administration steps up to the plate with some backbone, then the MSM will follow as they did when the war drums were being pounded.
Where or where is Chris Matthews, Oreilly, Hannity, Scarborough, Limbaugh in all of this? Why their silence and self censorship.. these folk have more of the ear of the people than any printed press.
