How did we forget that Israel's story is the story of the West?

Charles Moore asks this pointed and crucially important question of dhimmi government officials and opinion-makers in the Telegraph:

Well, some will say, that is the way it is: Israel has abused power, and is reaping the whirlwind. I don't want to argue today about the rights and wrongs of Israel's actions, though I think, given its difficulties, it stands up better than most before the bar of history. All I want to ask my fellow Europeans is this: are you happy to help direct the world's fury at the only country in the Middle East whose civilisation even remotely resembles yours? And are you sure that the fate of Israel has no bearing on your own? In Iran, the new President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad makes the link. The battle over Palestine, he says, is "the prelude of the battle of Islam with the world of arrogance", the world of the West. He is busy building his country's nuclear bomb.

Do be certain to read it all.

Good essay

The Telegraph gets it right, as usual. I like this bit:

Palestinian nationality came along, as it were, after the fact, a nationality largely based on grievance.

Meanwhile, The Guardian's Barbara Toner spouts incoherent gibberish.

Imagine my surprise not to have come across anyone who thinks all he's doing is shoring up his power base so he can do what he likes with Israel's borders when what he's liked, for the last 20 years or so, has sucked.

There is a feeble joke about soap powder in Toner's article. Nobody could possibly have thought of that before - or perhaps they were not Bold enough to say it.

Interested -- I hope you are reading The Guardian on line and not actually buying a copy. Boycotts of certain papers, boycotts of those who advertise in those papers (and letting the advertisers know about it) is a good way to get attention of editors. Slowly, but surely.

Yes, I'm reading it online - just the comment sections to see what the idiots are thinking. That dhimmi rag will not get a penny from me. I've got far better ways to spend my hard earned cash, most of them deliciously haram.

Interested~ Toner will find that the Tide is against her. One hates to Dash her hopes, but with luck she will be of good Cheer about it.

Well that's some Comfort.

The Jews of Palestine are like the American Indians. When Balfour announced the Jews could have autonomy back on their reservations, the Arabian Moslem immigrants promised they would kill the remaining Indians.

The real Palestinians are the Palestinian Jews. The Palestinian Jews lived there before the Palestinian Arab Moslems came invading, murdering Jews in Medina and everywhere en route. The big question is not why Islam which, is ridiculously called the religion of peace, is consistently proved incapable of peace. Why is Islam the only religion incapable of peace?

The Palestinian refugee is a made up persona of the Arabian Moslem seeking to forbid any more Jews on their ancestral Arabian homeland and is designed to return the Jew to his Dhimmi status since Mohammed.

Zionism is not racism. Zionism is a political movement against Moslem racism. The Jewish land mass of Arabia which 1/640 th. the size of the land mass of Arabia on which it sits, absorbed about 600,000 Jews from Arab countries is among the most significant yet little known injustices against humanity of the past century.

For hundreds of years, and in many cases for millennia, Jews lived in countries such as Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Iran, Iraq and Yemen. During this time, Jewish property was seized without compensation, Jewish quarters were sacked and looted, and cemeteries were desecrated. Synagogues, Jewish shops, schools and houses were ransacked, burned and destroyed, and hundreds of Jews were murdered in anti-Jewish riots and pogroms. Of the over 850,000 Jewish refugees who left Arab 22 Islamic paradise countries, approximately 600,000 sought refuge in the State of Israel and were resettled at Jewish expense.

Arab states refuse to acknowledge these human rights violations and provide relief to the hundreds of thousands of Jews who were forced to abandon their homes, businesses and possessions as they fled those countries. Instead, they incessantly run programs on state television claiming Jews are not Jews or never lived in Israel even though Jews were the majority population of Jerusalem even back through the conquests of Crusaders, Islam, Rome, Greece and Babylonia. Jews have been the uninterrupted majority population of Jerusalem since antiquity.

In fact, as a result of the creation of the State of Israel, official records indicate that approximately 700,000 Palestinian Moslem Arab residents fled in order to escape the attacking Moslem Arab armies that promised to wipe the Jews off the map and offer free booty to the expectant faithful.

Own prejudices block immigrants from getting jobs

An accusation you often meet from moslem circles is, that evil racists are keeping them from getting jobs. This especially came up in a recent row over unemployment benefits, that need a bit of explanation. People who receive those here are divided into 5 "match groups" according to how equipped they are to have and hold a job, with "match group 5" being the worst group and 1 the best. The Danish government recently suggested, that people in match group 4 had to show up 300 hours of work over a 4-year period to continue receiving unemployment benefits.

The usual suspects screamed bloody murder, and immediately seized upon several thousand immigrant couples as the prime victims to focus on to defeat the measure. Both members in the couples are in Match Group 4, and would of course be doomed, since racist employers didnt want to give them jobs, and the government wanted to cut off benefits for them because of that.

The two leftist strongholds of Denmark´s Radio and the newspaper Politiken recently got together to test those accusations with reality. The results are startling (source: BT, my translation):

The two media have sent five young 2nd-generation immigrants on a special mission on the Danish labor market. The youngsters were to get other immigrant youths jobs. They have sought out reality to remove hindrances - and their results thus far are quite remarkable.

Early yesterday, two of the job-agents declared unanimously, that the worst, most problematic hindrance to get immigrants to work are the prejudices of the immigrants themselves. Most of them think, its much harder to get a job than it is in reality. The two job agents brought in lots of jobs - the problem is actually making the unemployed youths seek them. The 29-year-old scarf-wearing Anissa Aharaz is deeply surprised herself. She thought, that the Danish companies would be more cautious at employing women, that insisted on wearing a scarf, or in other ways set herself apart through name, skin color or clothes. But she has discovered, that by far the most companies are enormously tolerant. The things that hinder, are the prejudices of the immigrants.

The 20-year-old Rola El-Dirawi, who has a Palestinian background, has a special experience with the group of her co-nationals and fellow women in Århus. Here, 80 percent of the women are outside the labor market. Rola El-Dirawi has found lots of jobs. But she hasnt been able to make even one of her co-nationals take an offer. They dont want to. Either because they personally prefer to stay at home - or because their husbands forbid them to take a job.

The young job agents agree, that the most important thing that can be done to change this unhappy situation, is to threaten to take away unemployment benefits from the Palestinian families. The government could hardly get any stronger backing for its plan.

Yes, I'm reading it online
Amazing what one finds while one Surf(s) the internet.

The tone of the article is a little suPersilious. It just won't wash.

Bit of an airy Fairy argument I presume?

From the Telegraph article:

Western children of the Sixties like this sort of talk. They look for a narrative based on the American civil rights movement or the struggle against apartheid. They care little for economic achievement or political pluralism. They are suspicious of any society with a Western appearance, and in any contest between people with differing skin colours, they prefer the darker. They buy into the idea, now promoted by all Arab regimes and by Muslim firebrands with a permanent interest in deflecting attention from their own societies' problems, that Israel is the greatest problem of all.

Not all of us.

More from the article, which I think sums up the whole problem:

But then a different narrative supervened. People called "the Palestinians" began to be mentioned. Once upon a time, the word "Palestinian" had no national meaning; it was simply the description on any passport of a person living in British-mandated Palestine. During the 19 years to 1967 when Jordan governed the West Bank, the people there had no self-rule, and no real name. UN Resolution 242, which calls for Israel to leave territories it occupied in 1967, does not mention Palestinians; it speaks only of "Arab refugees". Palestinian nationality came along, as it were, after the fact, a nationality largely based on grievance.

Since then, the story has grown and grown. Israel, which was attacked, has come to be seen as the aggressor. Israel, which has elections that throw governments out and independent commissions that investigate people like Sharon and condemn him, became regarded as the oppressive monster. In a rhetoric that tried to play back upon Jews their own experience of suffering, supporters of the Palestinian cause began to call Israelis Nazis. Holocaust Memorial Day is disapproved of by many Muslims because it ignores the supposedly comparable "genocide" of the Palestinians.

Western children of the Sixties like this sort of talk. They look for a narrative based on the American civil rights movement or the struggle against apartheid. They care little for economic achievement or political pluralism. The skin color issue regarding Israel is a red herring, and it just shows how crooked the "left" has been concerning Israel for many years. In fact, there is a broad range of skin color among both Jews and Arabs. Many Arabs are lighter than many Jews. In fact, many Arabs are no darker than I am. But the "left" used to claim back in the 60s that the Zionists had taken a country inhabited by "non-white people" whatever that means. They weren't saying explicitly that the Jews were super pale white folk, but they were insinuating it. After all, if they said it explicitly, then it could be contradicted.
As a matter of fact, Haj Amin el-Hussein, the chief leader of the Palestinian Arabs who spent most of WW2 in the Nazi-fascist domain, was blue-eyed and had reddish hair. For a very pale Arab, look at that girl on CNN, Hala Gorani. So I say again that skin color is a red herring meant to rouse a certain ignorant and manipulated body of opinion against Israel.
In this vein, I remember once on one of the int'l TV networks, probably CNN. Hanan Ashrawi [PLO spokeswoman] was up against Ra`anan Gissin, an Israeli spokesmen. Ashrawi accused Gissin, who is visibly darker skinned than she, of wanting to carry the white man's burden in the Middle East. Gissin foolishly didn't reply adequately to her claim. Instead, he smirked while she was speaking, as if saying to himself, "Who can believe this crap?" The problem is that the Arabs get a lot of mileage with their shameless lies. And Israeli spokesmen should reply to even the accusations that seem the silliest or most irrelevant.

One of the best articles that I have read on the subject.

Your verbage, accusatory and hostile stance does not ameliorate or help the situation at all. Calling the left crooked, is a slander and unnecessarily antagonistic.. you want to win friends and influence people, not make enemies out of allies.

The left is misled, their sentiments are in the right place (which sprang out of the Civil Rights movement, and antisemitism by middle America). The left of the '60's was actually led by Jews, for the most part, and were a defensive reaction against racist antisemitic America or perhaps you don't know that about our past, or if you do, you choose amnesia.

The task now is to move beyond the racism, and recast the argument in a form, and with terms that will appeal to the better sentiments of the left.

Believe me, if the left understood the problem of Islam, they wouldn't stay where they are, but they won't be budged by attacks, and epithets from the likes of FREEPERS, right wing radicals.

The left is not crooked, misconceived, misled, idealistic, and if you live in Israel you should know that there are legions of Israel Leftists, who themselves don't understand the problem, and seek some accomodation with the Arabs including a one state solution, like the Israeli Anarchists.

IOW, tone down the rhetoric and can the epithets, if what you really seek is security and bridging the divide.

nariz:
"Calling the left crooked, is a slander and unnecessarily antagonistic"
"The left is misled"

Crooked - (adj) Dishonest or unscrupulous; fraudulent.

Are you saying that the 'left' is the way it is because it has been misled and therefore we should not hold them accountable?
Do you not believe that a large number are well aware that what they are doing/saying is dishonest or at least suspect.

Before we all start bashing "the Left" for their hatred of Israel, I think I should remind everyone that right wing parties in Europe hate Israel just as much, or even more than "leftists" do. Aside from the American evangelicals (who mean well but admittedly have their own interests in mind), Israel has very little outside support. It takes courage to defend Israel in today's climate. The Arab propaganda funded by petrodollars has made both the mainstream Left and Right so craven that they refuse to grant Israel the same justice they grant to other nations all because the Palestinian Arabs believe their own damn lies and also because (to paraphrase Wolf Blitzer) "they are soooo poor and soooo brown". Bush wants to create a Palestinian terror state. Try to blame "the Left" for that one.

Enough of this partisan bickering. How about both both the Left and Right finally admit that Israel is part of the West and that we have an obligation to defend her against Muslim aggression much like we defended Europe from Communist aggression. No matter what. The Palestinian Arabs don't expect anything less from the ummah, so why should the Israelis expect anything less from us?

For me Israel is and always will be part of the West. It is a democracy which follows the rule of law.

That the EU leadership allows itself to be manipulated by the Muslim world does not invalidate the respect and brotherhood that the silent (gagged and ignored) majority of Europeans feel for Israeli's. This article said what the majority of people I know think.

Our governments are even failing in protecting the Jewish population in our midst, do these people have no shame, EU leaders and leaders of European governments should be totally ashamed of themselves for their craven surrender to the cult of death and destruction.

This information is most telling about Israel and its behaviour, of course the MSM has ignored this data. It has also never apologised for showing Palestinian propoganda as news.

An excellent article, but please read this article, you can ram this down the throats of those Israeli's are targetting children brigade...

Nariz,
I do really believe that most of what today is called or calls itself "left" is a body or bodies of manipulated public opinion. Likewise, Arabs or Pakistanis or anyone else who follows jihad and blows himself up with others is indoctrinated, or even brainwashed. The Muslims are following the principle enunciated by yasser arafat [died 4 Nov 2004] and by ayatollah khomeini, to wit: The highest joy in Islam is to kill and be killed. Yasser, to be sure, usually got others to do his holy dying for him. But in the end he too went the way of all flesh.

As far as the so-called Israeli "anarchists" are concerned, I have met some of them. The movement is fake, like most "leftist" movements today. And what I said about the "left" in general applies to them too. If you think they are "idealistic" then you are naive or misinformed. I am convinced that the money to finance their activities, as well as instructions for their political activity, come from abroad [outside Israel].

l cannot understand the hatred of some Europeans for Jews and Israel..back in the 80's a very good friend of mine who is Jewish, went with her WASP husband who was a director of PBS documentraies,,told me she really felt a wave anti Jews,-Israel. my first trips to Europe was in late 80's and last trip was two and a half years ago. l could not see it, but with all the EU's policies against Israel, l can now see she was correct in her assumptions. I did see a lot of anti US which being Cdn l am always assumed to be American. l had a heated discussiong with some Dutch person at a dog show.. where l told him he would be fighting for his survival against Islamofacist in not too distant futur!
