Yusuf Islam (aka Cat Stevens) blames "Islamophobes" for thwarting his grandiose plans to construct an Islamic community center in London. From ContactMusic:
[Mr. Islam} has come under fire from residents in the Brent area of London for failing to follow through his plans to turn a 1906 Church into a modern centre comprising prayer rooms, a block of flats and a medical area.But the one-time pop star is convinced local opposition stems wholly from prejudice and ignorance.
Islam's spokesman DANIEL GORDON says, "This is all about Islamophobia. They were even critical of the fact that the sketches for the plans showed people wearing hijabs.
"The delays are down to the fact that it has been hard to get funding following the 11 September attacks."
I have a great idea...build the islamic center in Pakistan or KSA...no problems with kaffir. Simple.

Still, it has to be a bit embarrasing that the
stodgy Danes are the ones to really annoy the mohammadans with the cartoons. What happened to the

Nobody wants Islamic terrorist roaming freely within their community using the modern centre as a place for planning terrorist attacks against them.
Mr Stevens has a lot in common with T Ramadan. They are both trying to promote the soft (did I say that?) side of Islam. You get a picture of Allah with his arms outstretched welcoming the great unwashed into his arms in brotherhood.
Give us the "warts and all" version Mr Stevens and let us make the decision. Don't try and sell us the sanitised version of Islam.
Why on earth this man wants to build the mosque on the old protected site of a 1905 church? I know he is a convert from christianity and became popular and got rich when he was a christian. If he has to do this conversion business (muslim to christanity) in a muslim country,his head would have rolled at the market place! Just taking advantage of our tolorant laws, freedom,this man is an outrage. In fact,quite recently.Alquida declared our much respected,peace loving Queen Elizabeth as a foremost enemy of Islam meant to be destroyed. With what face do this man build his mosque in the very queen's country,and whose people were slautered by his co religionists (7/7 bomb attacks). As CAROLYN S suggests, Mr Yusuf Islam, build your mosque in Soudi arabia or Pakistan or any other alla's place except UK. Those of us wh have studied Islamic history - both past and present (just watch the news tonight, if it wern't for Islam - half the journo's wouldn' have a job, no wonder the journo's love Islam!) , seen the effects of 9/11, 7/7, Bali 1, Bali 2, The Corby Case, The Bashir Case, the daily bombings and attacks on civilians in Israel, The Madrid Bombings, Beslin massacre, the recent terror arrests in Australia, the bombing of US servicemen in Lebenon and the Persian Gulf, the murder of Eyptian Copts in the US, oh and Egypt itself, the daily murder of Christians in Pakistan (like Daniel Scots brother recently), beheaded innocent little school girls by big brave Jihadi's in Indonesia, Iranian Presidents promising to nuke Israel simply because it's full of Jews, the Islamic Riots in France, Germany, Denmark, the murder of Theo Van Gough, the murder of Pim Fortyn, the economic and freedom of speech murder of Daniel Scot, the bombing of synagouges in Turkey, the bombing of Western targets in Jordon (that was wrong - it killed Muslims rather than infidels!), the bombing of the Australian Embassey in Jakarta, the persecution of Saudi School teachers who decide to test Islamic tolerance, the persecution of Salaman Rushdie, the persecution of Danish political cartoonists and their editors, the daily hate speeches by Muslims in Mosques and public places in England, Australia, New Zealand, the USA, France, Israel, etc; the lack of democractic freedoms in places even in 'democractic' Islamic states such as Turkey, the way that Indonesian Courts reduce the sentences of Muslims at Ramadan but not those of infidels; and finally - the next bombing, riot, pack Muslim rape, Religious Vilification laws comming to a town near you.....
And the Muslims say our fear is irrational??? The only irrational people on this planet are those that believe that Islam is Peace!

A little auto-bio from Cat Stevens:
My father was a Greek Cypriot and my mother was Swedish, but for some reason they decided to send me to a Roman Catholic school. I suppose that was the first anomaly of my life. Born Steven Demetre Georgiou, I was brought up Greek Orthodox, so didn’t take part in the religious rituals at school; you could say it meant I started out life as an observer.
My family weren’t at all strict, but they did want me to have a good moral grounding - hence their reasons for sending me to a Catholic school. I learned about good and bad, and about morality in general, and religion definitely left a strong impression on me. When a friend of mine refused to kneel at prayer because he didn’t want to spoil the crease in his trousers, it caused a fracture in our friendship. I must only have been about seven at the time! [I guess Cat's innate fundamentalism & extremism, unsatisfied by a maturely modern Christian environment, finally found a supportive home in the Umma!]
Ironically, considering I have now converted to Islam (and am now called Yusuf Islam), my upbringing was very anti-Muslim. Essentially, the Greeks and Turks were enemies, so I adopted the stance of my Greek Cypriot father and hated everything about the Turks, including their religion: 'Islam', whatever that meant. ["whatever that meant" + the inverted commas: Shades of Derrida and Chomsky -- i.e., of most Westerners!]
There was a Muslim family living near us and, although we never hurled abuse at them or anything like that [wow, that must have made your family very rare, since we know that non-Muslims in England have regularly "hurled abuse" at Muslims for years], we did keep our distance. I grew up in the West End of London. My parents ran a busy restaurant in the upper part of Shaftesbury Avenue and so the atmosphere I was born into was exciting. Life was all lights, hurried people and black taxis. We were close to the theatres and that is definitely where I picked up my interest in the entertainment industry.

Who would the muslims blame if they finally controlled the earth? When everything is falling apart, disease and famine running rampant, tribalism returning us all to the tenth century, who would they blame?

Factions and fractions would continue -- Islamic history is replete with divisions and subdivions of Muslims bickering, fighting and killing each other. Thank Allah that Islam is not now, nor ever has been, a solid block of absolutely unified agreement. Of course, even being the mess it has been, Islam has managed to cause untold mayhem and misery since its inception.
An Islamic Center Is A Threat In Any Non-Muslim Community
No one wants an Islamic center in their midst where "terrorism" can be plotted is only a tiny portion of the objection. The greater danger is Da'wa, the spread of religion through outreach programs, appealing to logic or to the disaffected or the susceptible. Everyone is repulsed by violence and intimidation, but the honied tongue of a smooth talker is much more effective and thus more dangerous. Add social services and the combination, in the long run, is lethal to the community that will eventually Islamize based on Sha'ria law.
Allow an Islamic Center to open and flourish to your peril.

Cat Steven's indignation would only be justified if Saudi Arabia would have previously vacated a mosque in Riadh and given all facilities to turn it into a Christian center, with church and bible school included.
Why is it that those religious tyrants are so shrilly demanding what they are not ready to give?
