Egyptian-born scholar Bat Ye'or has written extensively about the treatment of dhimmis, or non-Muslims, under Muslim domination. Her latest book, Eurabia (Fairleigh Dickinson University Press, 2005), chronicles Arab determination to subdue Europe as a cultural appendage to the Muslim world—and Europe's willingness to be so subjugated. It is her first book to be published in English before French, a decision Bat Ye'or now says took into account U.S. terror threats but did not foresee the dramatic spike in Muslim-led violence in France. Its publication in French is soon due out.WORLD: Have the intensity and longevity of the uprisings in France surprised you?
BAT YE'OR: Yes, I was surprised. I did not expect such violence for the accidental deaths of two youths, a tragedy that can happen at any moment in any city, including in Muslim countries; in fact, such a reaction in a Muslim country is not conceivable. Nor did I expect the lethargy and incapacity of parents and the people in the suburbs to control the youth. However, it is the state of total unpreparedness to deal rapidly with an intifada that is worrying.
WORLD: Please explain how its roots go back to the 1970s and even further.
BAT YE'OR: In the 1960s after decolonization, France and Great Britain wanted to establish good relations with their former Arab colonies, while the Arab League was trying to bring Europe to adopt an anti-Zionist and pro-Arab line. The nine countries of the European Community (EC) made a deal with the Arab League countries based on a strategy: the creation of a Mediterranean multicultural and united society. This Euro-Arab alliance was based on three pillars: anti-Zionism and the promotion and support by Europe of Arafat; anti-Americanism and a European policy contrary to that of America; the guaranty of oil supply to Europe. Within this framework, specialists set up numerous unofficial agreements. Muslim immigration is a part of these agreements with a view to create a multicultural Mediterranean society where Christians and Muslims would be reconciled—on the base of anti-Zionism and the delegitimation of Israel and its withering away.
WORLD: Is Europe's Muslim population seeking to be ghettoized?
BAT YE'OR: The radicalized youths of the suburbs of Paris and elsewhere want to control their "territory." [They see] state control as an occupation and an infringement on their rights.
WORLD: Muslim leaders are, according to press reports, working as mediators between angry youths and authorities. Can Islamic leaders come alongside a secular state?
BAT YE'OR: This would make of France an Islamic-type state, or two states: one ruled by French law, with extraterritorial entities ruled by Islamic laws.
WORLD: With these uprisings spreading through Europe, what can European leaders do to halt the violence?
BAT YE'OR: The first thing to do is to stop immigration, and this is not in the cards. Then they should reassess European laws, values, and identity. These have been depreciated by our leaders, fascinated by multiculturalism—the Andalusian utopia, the greatness of Islam—and business profits. We need to re-valorize Europe and stop making it a cheap souk open to anyone. Europe must stop its antisemitism and anti-Zionism, because the biblical values are at the root of Christianity and of Europe's civilization.

Past warnings, no go zones as a precursor, all the evidence was simply ignored. French politicians probably bought off morally and financially to the ruination of France.

I posted of this irrational desire, nay hankering for an utopia. This quite impossible dream of utopia is made even more "impossible", of one under the aegis of islamic rule.

Arab determination to subdue Europe as a cultural appendage to the Muslim world—and Europe's willingness to be so subjugated is the most disturbing development that is occurring on the European continent.
A better depiction is to say that Muslim determination- not just arab determination- to subdue Europe is one of the primary reasons that Christianity is waning in Europe. Some other notable reasons include Marxism and radical secularization to name a few.
It is well known that European attitudes and allegiances are shifting. Christian intellectual and religious centers such as Rome, Constantinople (Istanbul), and Jerusalem no longer hold the same kind of inspiration and devotion as they once did in the past.
For many years now Muslim immigrants have been coming to Europe in droves from all across the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. And it is the the Muslims who bring to Europe their distorted historical views about the crusades, imperialism, Islam, Christianity, and the United States.
Muslim supremacy and their distorted opinions and views have blindsighted Europeans, causing them to hold shameful and self-effacing attitudes about their own cultural and religious heritage.
If this trend continues to gain momentum, it is certain that more Europeans will cease worshipping a Jewish Messiah from Israel in their empty Christian churches and will instead be prostrating five times a day towards Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
On a postive note about Europe and Islam I just visited the region for the first time ever. My ancestral homeland is Croatia. The Croatians are not like the liberal socialistic blind and passive French. In Split they are fighting politically to block a mosque on being built. They know what is happening in Europe.
Each year on August 15th in Croatia and in Chicago USA Croat Americans celebrate Velika Gospa. This event marks the epic battle and victory over the Turks in the Middle Ages. Also, in nearby Serbia, radical Islam is being stopped.
But in 2007 Croatia will be entering the Euorpean Union which will no doubt bring Islam along with it's radical means to my ancetral homeland. They all know this and are aware of this issue. They are not blind. The history of war with Serbs and Turks are fresh in their minds. The Balkans are vitally important to Europe.
I do not want to see Turkey admitted to the EU. This will mean millions of more immigrant Muslims and radicals to Europe and Croatia.
Is America going to have have to help out Europe again alike in WWII? Private Ryan will have to be saved.

MsHunyadi has it correct, but the French deserve it. Actually, AP, Reuters, CNN, NPR, the New York Times violated their own political correctness when they referred to the rioters as disenfranchised "youth." To be objective, our media should have referred to the youth as "militants" like consistent with how our media referes to every other micreant criminal anywhere in the world who intentionally targets women, children, the elderly or the disabled to be blown up or for a televised throat cutting. MsHunyadi what do expect from our press and the French qui voient tout en rose? (who see all in rose colors)?

At this point I don't really expect any better from the media, but I am still outraged by the utter contempt they show for the truth. Having spent the better part of my life in the US military, I find it highly insulting when these "militants/insurgents/cowardly scum" are referred to as warriors, because for many years I have worked with the men who ARE arguably the best warriors on the planet.
I also don't think that what the mainstream media is doing is something as innocuous as merely seeing thru rose colored spectacles, I think it is something much more malevolent than that. I think the MSM (along with academia)is actively and consciously, participating in, and possibly even orchestrating to some extent, the downfall of western civilization. They are so blinded by their virulent hatred of western civilization that they have sold their soul to the devil, and haven't even bothered to think about what will happen to them after the society that they hate so much is no longer there to protect them from the devil they have made a pact with. Of course they will be the last to actually feel any of the consequences to their suicidal foolishness - as long as they keep up the Ameriphobic/Israeliphobic rhetoric that is.
