A couple of weeks ago one of the nutters who runs al-Qa'eda, Ayman al-Zawahiri, delivered a ferocious denunciation of one of his and his movement's most bitter enemies: that well-known zealot and extremist Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Her Majesty is also, of course, by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith, and this appears to be what cheesed off old Ayman. He pilloried her as one of the "severest enemies of Islam", and for being responsible for what he called (with a deliciously mediaeval turn of phrase) Britain's "crusader laws".
We should let pass for a moment the detailed knowledge of the British constitution that such remarks indicate Mr al-Zawahiri manifestly doesn't have. What is particularly wonderful about his words is that they appear, almost unprecedentedly, to have stirred our beloved Queen into one of those defences of the Faith that figure so prominently in her job description. Addressing her fellow extremists in the Synod on Tuesday, she celebrated the "uniqueness" of the Christian faith, and of her "conviction that all people, irrespective of race, background or circumstances, can find lasting significance and purpose in the Gospel of Jesus Christ".
This was one of the best moments of the month--so far. Prince Chuckles is over here lecturing us to be less confrontational of Islam while they're busy blowing up hotels in Amman and condemning his Mum.
You can't make this stuff up.

As many here at JW/DW know, I am a staunch advocate of solving the problem of the defunct caliphate by having Her Britannic Majesty assume the title for the benefit of her muslim subjects who are befuddled by virtually every aspect of life and adrift without guidance of a caliph. Just think of all the wonderful fatwas that could promulgate from the British Throne (entirely composed of course by Parliament).

Europe and her leaders must not abandon the Judeo-Christian values that sets us apart from the Muslim world and is the basis of our culture, from human rights to the status of women.
Although I am a deeply religious man (Catholic), I realize that not all Westerners must have the same deep conviction as I, yet even the atheist, has inside him the spirit and influence of our religious forefathers.
On my desk sits a beautiful statue of the a Madonna and child, yes a religious statue but also the embodiment of all that the west represents towards the respect of women my culture.
I wonder if the Muslim world has the same concept of women and children first.

True story here: I have a Dutch ancestor who was involved in the Christian crusades in 1386. It is known within our family that he was a real Christian warrior who conquered the Moslems on the Island of Rhodes and was knighted by the English king.
I am sure that he would be rolling over in his grave if he knew that Prince Charles, the likely future king of England remarked that as a future king he would not like to be known as the defender of the faith, but defender of the faiths ( yes...Islam being the other faith).

I agree with that. The problem is that 'temporary' can last a long time. It has already lasted 1400 years in terms of Islam. The Islam today is the same Islam of old , only the faces and players change. From that point of view, Islam is alive. It has its 'own' life, if it did not, it would have died with its inventors, Mohammad and his early companions and associates. Islam has a soul of duality, Quran, Ka'aba. Islams Allahic philosphy from the Quran, and the transfer of Allahic energy from the rock.
The Rock is the physical soul of Islam. Thats why thousands circumabulate it seven times. Clockwise circumabulations to the right (clockwise) are invoking. The number seven is significant for another time. The purpous of the Haj is not to shower Allah with love by circling his soul, but to capture the Allahic energy that they ferverently believe is there. Mosques are symbolic representations of the Rock and its 'living' soul. Allah is a monster that feeds off the energy of men. It is men who gave Allah life, and it is men who sustain that life. This is accomplished by this exchange of energy. This is a pact with the devil, because, as you know the energy that emmenates from there is decidedly selfish and deadly. It is natural for muslims to emulate their god and so they do.
Now the Queen has been officially put in danger because Allah the monster, cant stand competition. He cant stand his energy being deluted by other religions, their spokespeople or just people with good common sense. There is only two ways to kill the monster. All muslims must apostate or die off, or the monster himself should be killed. If we can manage to kill the monster, muslims dont have to die.
