Rioters are Muslims, but don't say it

An insightful piece on the media reluctance to call the rioters in France what they are. From the Washington Times, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:

The rioters who have burned out neighborhoods in cities across France for a fortnight are overwhelmingly of North African and Arab ancestry, overwhelmingly young, overwhelmingly male, overwhelmingly cut off culturally and economically from the larger French society -- and overwhelmingly Muslim.

But saying they're Muslim is a subject of angry dispute. French officials downplay the religious connections, and some newspapers, particularly in the United States, avoid identifying the rioters as Muslim....

Most of the rioters do not appear to be foreigners, but French citizens, young men from first- and second-generation immigrant families from Algeria, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia -- former French colonies -- and other North and West African nations.

Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin blames the rioting on "structured groups," apparently euphemism for "Muslim," but French officials say they have no evidence that international Muslim radical groups are involved in promoting the violence.

"For the moment, we see no link at all with the networks that we work on," French anti-terrorism judge Jean-Francois Ricard said in Paris. Arrest figures released so far indicate that most of the hoodlums are young and male. About half are younger than 18.

They're technologically savvy. Investigators say the rioters are using the Internet, cell phones and text-messaging to coordinate attacks. Der Spiegel, the German newspaper, quoted one of the text messages from one rioter to another: "We aren't going to let up. The French won't do anything and soon we will be the majority."

According to No pasarin
Total car burning count now 6894.
A peace march on the Champs Elysees to commemorate the anniversary of Arafat's demise from you all know what disease has been BANNED!
Oh and by a strange coincidence more than 95% of those arrested are Muslims.
What victimisation and racism!
Next time will it be people instead of Cars ? a very frightening propect.

For the rest of you, No Pasaran's URL is:

I had to look it up myself.

Wow, how about this spin.

The violence by white youths as well as French-born citizens of African and Arab origin began in a Paris suburb on October 27 after the deaths of two youngsters apparently fleeing police.

Thanks, Reuters.

Only coincidence 9 out of 10 are named Mohammed.

Re: "Prime Minister Dominique de Villepin blames the rioting on "structured groups," apparently euphemism for "Muslim,"

Was this guy trained as a ballerina given they way he can tippy toe around any given situation? Does Mr. de Villepin have a graduate degree in euphemisms?

The BBC World has an 8 minute clip of LePen under the France riot story. When the reporter asks him how he could consider deporting these grandchildren of immigrants from Algeria back to Algeria when they were not born there he states that Algeria threw the grandchildren of the French, who were born in Algeria, out of the country. I was waiting for the reporter, who obviously doesn't like LePen (what reporters do?) to say something like - Yes, but France was a colonizer! but she didn't.

Can someone clarify this? I thought that the French decendants in Algeria left because of the horrible conditions happening, not because they were expelled.

Hugh? Anybody?

Borg,
That BBC reporter didn't dare to say that France was a colonizer because the current French intifada looks too much like a colonization process and I guess Le Pen would have been too happy to use it.
As far as "French Algeria" is concerned, the French left because of the horrible guerilla conditions but also because they were expelled in 1962 when Algeria became independent. Some but VERY few managed to stay after that or came back on a development assignment or as technicians on oil platforms and this kind of things.
Most of those expelled had been born in Algeria and had no or almost no ties with metropolitan France. So hundreds of thousands came back all at once as refugees. All those terrible housing projects where most Muslims live nowadays were actually built in a rush to get a roof to so many French refugees. They built a lot of those projects around Paris, Marseilles, Lyons and most Southern France cities (where the climate is closer to Algeria's and the refugees naturally flocked to). Ironically enough, because they were so many people arriving, they had to find extra labour to build all those projects; that"s why so many Muslims emigrated to France to build them. The same Muslims that hated so much the French so as to kill them and expell them.
The refugees were called Pieds Noirs (Black Feet). Nobody in metropolitan France was so happy to see them, they were regarded as losers/ They had a strange arabic-sounding accent, spoke loudly, ate couscous and tagine etc.etc.
In the 80ies they moved away from those housing projects built for them because the Arab Muslims immigrants were more and more, had lots of kids and gradually made living there a terrible nightmare. This is how Muslims ghettoes appeared a bit everywhere in France.
Now their sons have started their kind of independence war again. The only thing is that now they are not locals getting rid of colonizers but colonizers trying to get rid of locals.

ERWAN NORTH MAGHREB

Thank's for that information. VERY informative. A further question - "expelled in 1962" - that was an official government expulsion?

Borg,
It was a war known as Guerre d'Algérie (Algerian war) opposing the French army vs. the FLN (Algerian Nationql Liberation Front) guerilla forces. It was by no means a war with battles like in WWII. More like permanent terrorist attacks to French public places then to French people. By attacks I mean bombs, collective rapes, pregnant women's womb cut open and the foetus torn into pieces in front of the mother, men emasculated and their penis exposed as trophies, you konw that kind of delicacies...
Real war crimes actually.
So one day the French state capitulated and the French had only a couple of hours to leave. Most had to give up all their belongings, their pets, their cars, their homes, everything. Those who would stay would be cruelly executed.

"they were expelled in 1962 when Algeria became independent... All those terrible housing projects... built in a rush to get a roof to so many French refugees. They built a lot of those projects around Paris..."

Was Tativille anywhere near these?

"By attacks I mean bombs, collective rapes, pregnant women's womb cut open and the foetus torn into pieces in front of the mother, men emasculated and their penis exposed as trophies, you konw that kind of delicacies"

It has become a party line among PC Leftists (i.e., the dominant Opinion in the West now) that the French treated the Algerians horribly -- when the fact is, the Algerian Muslims fought in manners so hideously barbaric, the French had to be harsh, but even so, the PC tide was turning in the West (where even a Camus could talk the "eqivalency" language that we have come to know when people compares Israelis to Palestinians) and they could not do what needed to be done and had to cut their losses and leave.

And then to turn around and welcome the Algerian's into the country of France. Insanity.

The French should have lived in tents rather than have those barbarians invited in. I was just hoping that could be used as an example of what could be done but guerilla war like that would be the end of France and others. So much for inviting in "moderates". All the countries seem to be falling into this same pattern.

I just heard several French policeman have been suspended for beating a rioter. Insanity. They can be shot at but not defend themselves.

France is on the edge of a HUGE catastrophe. Dear Jihadwatch readers, the French government, Shiraq, Villepin, the French media do NOT represent the French people's opinion. It took A WHILE for the French to open their eyes but now things are changing VERY FAST. By the way, look at how CNN and even FOXNEWS (this is too much!) alter the facts and show the French Muslim rioters as poor victims.
All this is VERY worrying. I am quite sure France will be at war very soon or condemned to dhimmitude.

I go on daily that our biggest problem isn't Muslims but our own intelligentsia, the Camus of today, if you will. Today Prospect Magazine posted its winners in the poll recently conducted to list the West's top public intellectuals. Noam Chomsky is number one. No, not Robert Spencer, not Hirsi Ali, not Ali Sina, not Ibn Warraq, not VS Naipaul.

Our public intellectuals are not their public intellectuals. We have two publics in the West. I write on occasion that we will face a civil war here because of our Left dhimmi fascists siding with Right fascists, eco-fascists, Muslims. But there are names on the list that show the divisions in the collective mind of the Left dhimmi fascists too. Christopher Hitchens is number five.

The point is that some on the so-called Left are sensible enough to know that they are betrayed by the likes of Chomsky, and that the Left is two things if anything: Left fascism on the one side, and Teddy Roosevelt Progressivism on the other. Making this division clear to those self-indentified Leftists is tough. Still, one may see it in the results of the poll.

Most Leftists, like most everyone, make their public ideological decisions on the basis of socialablity. If an idea sounds good or satisfies ones self-image, then regardless of the history of the idea, regardless of its possible sinister implications, one takes up the idea naively and carries it as ones own, being a nice and sociable and moral person. Don't wade through that Herder, never heard of that Fichte, never picked at that Sorel. No, and they won't because those foundational philosophers are not what the average liberal caring- sharing person wants to see in himself and in his attitudes. Don't dare to dig through Darre to find the roots of fascism in ecology. No, our intellectuals love bunnies, not Nazis. But, there they go, hippity-hoppiting down the slippity-sloppity slope to fascism without realizing it.

There are, as one may see in the poll below, some who don't like the direction of the path we're on. Trust me, they will not listen to the words of Herder. They will not plunge into Fichte's pools of thought to find out why they don't like what the West is becoming. They won't uncover the meaning of the Left dhimmi fascism we see so clearly under the thin cover of Sorel. Ideas gestated in the mind of Feuerbach will never see the light in the mind of the average Left dhimmi fascist. But the poll shows that there is an intuitive splitting going on in the Left, so-called.

The times, they are a'changin'. Most people believe what most people believe, and those "most people" are the public intellectuals who con the majority of "most people" who haven't got the time or the interest to inquire deeply into the matters of the foundations of public philosphy. But the public intelligentsia is divided, and it's taking on a new direction. The Left dhimmi fascists are still number one according to Left dhimmi fascists followers. But that's a'changin slowly, and in time there is a hope that most people will believe what most people believe, and "most people" will hate fascism. When the list of top ten public intellectuals among the liberal segment of the West includes six anti-fascists, then most people will believe that Left dhimmi fasicsm is bad. When Spencer et al are in the top ten, then we'll see that most people have always believed that Islam is a primitive form of fascism. I know I've always believed that. I find others who've always believed it too. They obviously have extremely short memories, but why be picky?

We all knew the coverage wasn't there. Now he confirms the reason why.

THANK GOODNESS FOR BLOGS. And the news people wonder why their circulation and viewership is dropping?

Yesterday's bombing in Jordan - the 9th of Nov. 9/11?

ERWAN NORTH MAGHREB -

Did they say "that's not islamic" for the media back then, too?

I don't blame the ordinary people, they live day to day and most don't see what is happening and the media and politicians keep them blind.

Did you see the article that stated the French youth are at a one to one ratio with the muslim youth in most areas? There will very soon be no where for the people trying to get away from this to emmigrate to.

sonofwalker,

I don't think anyone knows clearly what the sociology of Left and Right (or more precisely, of PC and non-PC) is in the USA or the West in general.

We can't be sure how many ordinary people are PC, and how many are not PC.

If there is a "silent majority" of non-PC people, they are seriously handicapped by the fact that the general sociopolitical culture is dominated by PC -- the media, entertainment, education, legal system, politics, public discourse in general -- all dominated by PC.

The problem we face is not a conscious problem: the dominance of PC over ordinary people in our West is not a dominance of ideas thought and discussed: it is a dominance of givens passively swallowed, as unconsciously and naturally as oxygen is breathed.

I'm with you there, Dr. Pepper.

And Borg: I took you up on the LGF link, going on to the link to the babe on French TV. Posted it on my daily blog.

ERWAN NORTH MAGHREB:
FOX news has changed. I thought I saw a FOX report a week ago or so that a Saudi prince bought a 10% share of FOX. Later another report ID'd the specic prince by name and that the new percentage was 5.6%.
I just realized that the words 'price' and 'prince' are only one letter apart yet the influence seems to be there...... :-(
Perhaps the revolution of real news through wonderful blogs like this one is good news.
Regards,

Radical Islam is starting to take a foothold in America. The radical Wahabis are planting Mosques here being funded by the Saudi government. I think this is why the president is celebrating Ramadam and trying to convince everybody of the similarity between Christianity and Islam [which there is none]. There is a blinkness that is coming over the western world that is very scary!

Just like when in New York young muslim's stomped on an American flag in the streets of New York, and sang Alla u Akbar, and onlookers did nothing. While the defamers of the flag relished in the fact that they could do so, because of American so called "loopholes." This was not a loophole, and get it right, it is the right all should have to express speach. Derogatory or not, you have freedom, and if I had seen it first hand, the flag would have been raised and there would have been one hell of a fight, for freedom!

Muslims whinge about how they're constantly copping it bad, constantly being victimised by "rednecks" and "Islamophobes", and how Islam is forever being attacked. And yet, time and time again, we see living proof of how that is all bull! Muslims are repeatedly protected and given a free pass. Islam is constantly excused - oh, that is not Islam, it's just a tiny minority, perverting Islam, blah blah blah. The news media goes to painstaking lengths to not mention "Muslim" when they commit atrocity and mayhem. Yet they continue to cry victim. And unfortunately, far too many of us, believe them.

feralee:
The idea that Muslims are constantly being discriminated against finally lost it's hold on me when I read Irshad Manji's book. I know she isn't often viewed with respect here but she invaluably pointed out that her Islamic "center" (or whatever the it was) got about 10 TIMES as more supporting calls from non-muslims than angry or hostile ones on 9/11. Of course the occasional un PC comment or even attack still happens but Muslims so exxagerate "the threat" that almost all of it unbelievable.
